In a town on a unknown planet in the M51 galaxy, three young adults exited a car and stepped out onto the pathway. The first was a tall blue headed feminine looking male wearing black pants and a blue long-sleeved top underneath his white mystic force inspired vest. Next out was a girl who was a few inches shorter than the boy. She had short spikey red hair, blue jeans and a red shirt underneath her white vest. Finally came a messy haired teen. He wore black jeans and the white vest with a green shirt underneath, "I still don't understand why we are here", the girl said to the tall boy, "I thought you said you had a lead".
"I do ", Telos shrugged, this is Liberty Grove".
"Power Ranger Central", the other boy, Osgood smiled, "i thinki see what your getting at".
"Liberty Grove", she recited automatically, "and no I don't know what Power Rangers are".
"Wow something the great Rhian doesn't know", Telos laughed, "this must be a first". Rhian slapped him on the arm but she was laughing along with Telos and Osgood. The trio had been following a lead from an ancient lab for almost two years.
"Right I think we should have some lunch before we do anything else", Telos clapped his hands together and marched towards the pub.
"Always thinking of your stomach", Rhian grumbled under her breath, drawing a small laugh from Osgood. He suddenly stopped, it was this weird feeling, Osgood could tell something was wrong, "Oz, are you alright?" Rhian asked with concern in her voice.
"Yeah, I think so", Osgood began, "just a bad vibe that's all".
"That's the third time today mate", Telos called out, "Im going to give a Phiro a call".
"Yeah", Osgood replied absentmindedly.
A few minutes later, the teens were sitting in the pub, "I think I'll have the Shepherd's Pie with extra chips", Telos said as he looked through the menu.
"How can you still be hungry", Rhian shook her head, "we only had breakfast two hours ago".
"I'm a growing boy", Telos shrugged.
Suddenly the pub was rocked by several powerful explosions. Wooden splinters flew everywhere, bottles shattered on the floor and all the windows were blown out. The trio threw themselves to the ground as quickly as possible, "Putties?" Telos asked the others.
"Seems like their type of attack", Osgood replied.
"But in broad daylight though", Rhian added
"Well I'm not going to hide in here", Telos announced and quickly ran for the door, closely followed by Rhian and Osgood.
Outside there were people running in terror and the smell of smoke filled the air. Telos spotted someone heading in his direction, "Excuse me sir ", he called out, "what's going on?"
The man had a look etched on his face, told Telos that this was serious. "I'm not sure", The man stammered, "some kind of creatures, I've never seen anything like it".
"That's the residential area isn't it", Rhian asked.
"Yeah but don't go down there", the man called out but it was too late, the trio were already halfway down the road.
When they arrived, they found several bodies lying in the street, all residents of the town. They looked around expecting to see putties but instead they were in for a nasty surprise. Marching through the village were dozens of black bodied humanoid creatures. Their bodies were styled with what looked like feathers which the trio found a little strange. They had bird heads, "What the bloody hell are these things?" Telos exclaimed.
"I'm not sure", Osgood replied, "I've never seen anything like them before".
"I don't fancy asking them", Rhian pulled out a blaster and firef at the nearest creature. To her horror the monster absorbed it without even flinching. She fired again but again this had no effect, "Erm little help", she said to the others.
"Love to", Telos replied, "but nothing's working on them". Whatever they tried, the black bird creatures kept closing in on them. They used everything in their repertoire. The nearest creature lunged for Osgood but the blue haired teen was able to dodge out the way.
"We need to run", Rhian called out and they slowly began to back away.
"No arguments from me", Telos replied and turned around, only to come face to face with more of the creatures. "Come on that's not fair", he cried.
"Quickly between those buildings", Osgood pointed to a gap between two burning houses. The trio moved as quickly as they could, shielding themselves from the heat of the fires.
"They're right behind us", Rhian shouted as she looked over her shoulder. One of them grabbed her ankle and she fell face first to the ground.
"Rhian!" Telos cried and stopped to help her up but in the process one of the creatures punched him in the stomach before kicking him in the chest. The black haired man tumbled down an Earth bank, landing on a pile of branches.
"I've had just about enough of you", Osgood said and grabbed a fallen tree branch and smashed it over the head of the nearest creature. It let out a horrible cry and fell to the ground completely immobile. He offered his hand to Rhian and helped her up, "That seems to be the secret", he found a branch and offered it to the girl, "hit them as hard as possible".
"I'm not sure if I can", she stammered.
"They just took out Telos ", Max replied, "use that as motivation".
"I heard my name", Telos said, he was being helped by Phiro up the bank. He had blood pouring out his mouth but he was ready to fight, "that one's mine". He hit the nearest creature so hard that his branch broke in half. Another one tried to sneak up behind Rhian but Phiro came to her rescue and smashed a branch across its back.
Rhian smiled in appreciation before noticing that another creature was charging in from her right hand side. She lowered her shoulder and flipped the creature over her back. The creature sailed into the air and it landed face first on the ground. Ignoring the pain in his ribs, Telos grabbed a broken branch and stabbed it through the creature's body, permanently immobilising it.
"Alright now what", Osgood began, "we've used all of our weapons".
As the four shuffled towards the top of the earth bank away from the dozen or so monsters, frustration grew inside Rhian. She was about to die at the hands of these weird looking creatures and she was powerless to save herself of her friends. Three of the black bird creatures jumped towards the group and instinctively, Rhain thrust her hand towards them. To her shock, a small fireball flew out of her hand and struck the creatures. They cried out in pain before turning to ash, "Rhian what did you just do?" Osgood asked.
The red haired teen looked at her hand, "I have absolutely no idea".
