The trip to SPD's orbiting facility hadn't taken as long as expected and before long, her journey through space was over.
The station itself was nothing spectacular, not the mammoth structure of Terra Venture that Mckenzie remembered from the news reports. This station was more in line with the International Space Station, long narrow tubes interconnected with cylinder structures that all linked to a central domed building.
The inside was ordinary too. Once the airlock door opened, the former yellow ranger was greeting with a sea of grey and beige, "Good to see the budget wasn't spent on interior decoration," she commented dryly.
"I think this shade is called military grey," Boom responded with a small smile, "trust me, it gets better than this."
Mckenzie raised an eyebrow but didn't comment further, choosing to follow Boom deeper into the space station. At least the budget stretched to installing an artificial gravity generator and she wasn't expected to float everywhere. Mckenzie allowed herself the odd glance into the adjoining rooms but saw nothing but people in lab coats busily working away.
The corridor opened out into what Mckenzie assumed was the central dome. Dominating the room was a circular structure with a raised spot in the very centre. Above the small platform was an assortment of crystals connected to pieces of metal and wires. Lining the walls of the room was numerous computer banks flickering away. There was a small scrum of scientists, all surrounding an cat woman, "Doctor," Boom called out to get the woman's attention, "Doctor Kat Manx, Mckenzie Hammond." Boom said.
" Hammond i need to go change " Doggie barked walking onto the so called bridge, Mckenzie frowned before walking into the area she assumed Doggie had ment, she returned shortly after wearing black tights with white boots a pink under shirt and a white vest with a gem in the centre. " Sir why?" She asked.
" Cause im sending you down to the planet to below to become the pink ranger " Doggie replied strapping the morphers to Mckenzie's wrists.
Suddenly warning sirens blared throughout the space station as another volley of explosions rocked the structure. Everyone present in the main dome struggled to stay on their feet, "Can we return fire?" Mckenzie asked her fellow officers, "or raise the shields at least."
"This isn't Star Trek," Boom snapped in response, "this is a scientific research station, it's not designed for combat."
"Tell that to whatever's shooting at us," Mckenzie groaned, "we must have something to fight back with." A different alarm started blaring, "What now?" She groaned.
"It's the intruder alarm," Doggie frowned, "but that's not possible, I haven't seen anything leave that ship."
Something caught Mckenzie's eye, a ventilation grate nearby started rattling and several small brown objects, no bigger than marbles, tumbled out. With a flash the marbles broke and a dozen creatures burst into the room. They were predominately black with orange and yellow blots all over. In one hand as a small silver hatchet and in the other, a small blinking orb. Kenzie's eyes widened "Get down," she cried.
The few of the creatures threw their orbs which exploded on impact with anything solid, be it metal or organic. Four or five powerful blasts shook the dome and bodies flew everywhere. Consoles sparked, debris flew everywhere and the base was soon filling with smoke. Kat, Boom and the remaining SPD officers, headed for the shuttle. Doggie hit a button on a console as he left, leaving Kenzie the only one left on the bridge. Suddenly she began to teleport away.
The former Shadow Ranger fired up the shuttle and slowly manoeuvred it away from the disintegrating space station. He spotted the strange craft slowly turn and for a moment, she thought it was coming their way. To his relief, it continued turning and went back through the wormhole.
The shuttle was rocked by a shockwave, forcing Doggie to take evasive action, "Are we under attack?" He called into the back.
"It was the station," Kat replied, "I think it's gone."
" What about Kenzie?" Boom asked,
" Teleported to the planet below, now lets head back to earth" Doggie said.
