I think this is a filler chap.
He spent all day cooped up in Miss Kurosaki's office, talking about anything and everything with her while she tried to get some work done so that she wouldn't fall behind.
He would be lying if he said that he didn't appreciate her dedication to her job, or her work ethic since it told him things about her as a worker. She was diligent, incredibly focused- even with him there to distract her- and competent as well. So much so that by the time lunch rolled around, he started to feel as if she and her various talents were wasted in this branch of his company.
Perhaps he could promote her? Maybe even put her in the main office so that she would be closer to him?
Such a move was perfectly logical to him since she was under his protection now. But he was betting that if he offered her a promotion and different office in the company, she'd turn him down flat.
Especially right that second when they were still getting to know one another a bit.
No- he would have to figure out a way to promote her in a way that she wouldn't be able to turn down. But aside from the gears in his head turning furiously to come up with a plan for that, he also learned some other interesting things as well.
One of which was that she absolutely abhorred suits.
It took him a little while to really notice the fact that she wasn't wearing the usual business attire that others in the building wore. But then he wasn't really there to notice what she wore. Though knowing her preferences in clothing could come in handy later on.
But her reaction to being told by her secretary, Hanna, that she would have to attend a meeting in a nice suit with a skirt and look like a professional- startled him. Especially since once the phone was back in place, she let out the most furious cat-like hiss he'd ever heard before in his life.
He'd never known anyone who hated nice suits so much that they literally hissed like a cat that had just been dunked in cold water and hung up on someone before. But now that he did, he could cross it off of his bucket list.
He found out other things too. All equally just as interesting to him.
Things like, her sense of humor.
He was pleased to know that she had one, and could take a joke very well. He was equally pleased by the fact that she liked a little bit of dark humor from time to time. He supposed that it had something to do with her time embroiled with Spirit World and all of the incidents she'd taken part in.
But he could certainly appreciate some dark humor.
Especially since Yusuke's jokes tended to get a bit old. And Hiei wasn't around often enough to indulge him anymore.
So, knowing that there was someone else around with a warped sense of humor was nice. The next time he felt like cracking jokes about making certain pain in the asses from work, disappear- he'd come to her and hopefully she wouldn't call the cops on him.
Another thing that he found especially interesting was the fact that she wasn't in any sort of romantic relationship. Well, actually that was just as odd as it was interesting if he were completely honest. He knew that many women her age usually tended to focus more on living their lives than work.
Going out, dating, romance, sex, etc.
All of these things were something that women Miss Kurosaki's age tended to enjoy while they had the chance to do so. Before they wound up being bogged down by careers, children, and other things.
And once he realized this fact, along with the fact that she was unattached romantically to anyone- he couldn't help but wonder why.
From what he'd seen of her personality and other things thus far- she was an ideal match for someone. She was intelligent, funny, work oriented... Hell, if his friends were all unattached, he'd be very tempted to try and marry her off to one of them. But sadly, each of his friends were spoken for. So that nixed that idea.
But that was okay since he had deemed that they weren't good enough for her anyways.
But maybe...
His mother had been fussing at him recently to settle down more and more lately. And Miss Kurosaki would be a decent match for him, he supposed.
After all, she was stunningly beautiful, sexy, and it wasn't as if he would need to hide the fact that he was a demon from her for long. Her spirit awareness was possibly greater than even his own, so it was entirely possible that she already knew that he wasn't entirely human anyways.
Which was just one of his more troublesome concerns when it came to the idea of settling down with a human woman.
Though the fact that she hadn't said anything one way or another about whether or not he was totally human could simply mean that she didn't care what he was or wasn't. Or she was simply too polite to say anything about it.
He was leaning towards the latter at the moment. So, it wasn't as if the thought of settling down with her was such a radical leap by any means. And of course, on the heel of those particular thoughts came an endless stream of questions that he couldn't help but ask her since the information could be helpful to his cause.
He could tell that the newest line of conversation was confusing her once he got started. Her expression tended to be very open and her tone when she answered him was also a dead giveaway too.
She sounded very wary of some of his questions. Questions like, what was her idea of a romantic date? Or what was her ideal significant other? What was she attracted too?
Her idea of a romantic date surprised him, honestly.
After all, not many women would choose to go hunting instead of staying inside with a nice candle lit dinner. Or over getting dressed up to go dancing either. But he sort of liked the idea of going hunting for a date.
Though his idea of hunting probably varied greatly from her own. Still, it was something that he could work with. And as for what her ideal significant other and what she was attracted too.
All she gave him to go on was, a person.
That was it! A person.
Even he had some difficulty expressing his disappointment at that sort of response. I mean, couldn't she have bothered to list some traits that she found desirable in a potential mate? She had said nothing about specific parameters! No, he must be human, demon, a spirit, a rock- Nothing!
Hell, he even would have settled for something along the lines of; he must be tall, handsome, and have an unescapable mother complex. At least that would have at least been somewhat helpful to him. But no, she went with the least informative sort of answer imaginable.
At least he knew now that he could be considered in the running for a potential significant other for her. After all, he was a person.
After that, once he finished interrogating her about some other things- like children. Now don't get him wrong. His time as a human had mellowed him greatly and had even softened some of his...more problematic tendencies. But as he was currently living as a human male doing some research into the possibility of settling down with a human woman- this was simply something that needed to be asked.
He couldn't help but wonder if she wanted children. And if so, how many did she want? He was a fox demon. And he knew that even demon foxes like himself were prone to having litters. Not only that, but there was a serious possibility that he may sire demon children.
Which was why he followed the previous questions with, was adoption an option that she may be interested in? And if not, when was she planning on getting to work on those children?
He might have sounded just a tad bit excitable when he asked that last question. So, he tried to reign himself in a bit to wipe the WTF look off of her pretty face.
After that he took a moment to note the time with a quick glance at his watch. And was startled to find that it was already five thirty p.m. and was quickly approaching the end of the workday.
Neither of them had eaten anything for lunch. Nor had they even left the office once.
Taking a moment to plan how best to begin wooing her, he decided on the most straight forward line of action. Carefully clearing his throat, he got to his feet and then once he had her eyes on him, asked her if she would join him for a meal since they hadn't eaten anything yet.
Her response to his question was to open one of the drawers in her desk and pull out some granola bars while shooting him down in flames. However instead of being put off by this. Or by the fact that she had outmaneuvered him, he merely smiled at her in amusement as he bid her a good day and moved to leave.
Silly girl. He thought in slight amusement as he exited her office to go search for sustenance. Didn't she know that there was no way to out fox a fox? No matter, he wasn't going to bother warning her since her efforts to out fox him might prove rather entertaining.
