NOTE TO phyl7375: Yes! He's my favorite lovably hated character from anywhere! He is soooooooo hard to write for, though. I don't know how they did it so well, but I'm glad they did!
TRIVIA: I accidentally found out the meaning of the name a while back and I knew I had to put it in here for some levity. Why does Mya laugh?
BONUS: I know I'm really teasing you with this one. But this chapter has some clues as to what is going on. Any ideas? Even if not, I promise you you'll have the answer next chapter!
?-?
"Is there any way we could help him?" Tara asked. Sue and Lucy were now back in their office, recounting what Cathi told them to everyone else.
"I don't know." Sue said and signed. "I know from personal experience, you can't rush it. You take it a day at a time."
"But surely people encouraged you. What was the most encouraging?" Lucy asked.
Sue sighed as she thought back. "Honestly, I remember thinking all of it was cliché. None of it really resonated with me. Nothing stuck. It was time, acceptance and God that helped me get through it."
"WE PRAY, MAYBE?" Amy suggested.
"GOOD IDEA. MAYBE HE HELP US THINK OF MYLES HIS NEED." Sue replied. With that, the group bowed their heads and prayed for wisdom.
?-?
"Heads up." Jack said as he hung up the phone. Everyone looked at him as a result. "We have a new case."
"Oh?" Bobby asked, his head popping up in curiosity.
His friend nodded, his face saddened. "Yep."
"What's wrong?" Mya asked, seeing his downtrodden look.
"It's just a case I don't think any of us will like." Jack replied.
"Why?" Myles asked, the first thing he'd said to them all day.
"Because it's about a kid. A dead kid."
Everyone looked at each other, Jack's look infecting the entire team.
?-?
"What do we know?" Jack solemnly asked the police officer at the scene when the team arrived.
"Not much." The officer replied, shaking his head. "Kid was laying at the side of the highway like this when he was found. Ran him through the system and found a missing persons report in Maine last year. That's when we called you." He said as the group looked at the small ditch on the side of the highway. "He was 12. Name's Peter Lyke."
All of a sudden, Mya stated giggling. Putting her hand over her mouth, she looked at her team, who were glaring at her. "Sorry. It's the name. I'll shut up now." With that, everyone focused on the boy.
"Have the parents been notified?" Jack asked.
The officer shook his head. "We didn't know what to say on the phone."
He turned to Mya. "How about you take Josh and you two take a road trip up there, getting any information that might help our case?"
She nodded, stepping backwards as she took out her phone. "I'll call him to pick me up so we can pack."
"What about us?" Bobby asked.
Jack sighed, looking at the boy as they got closer. "We have the task to find out who would throw a boy out of a moving car on a highway, and how he got all the way down here."
?-?
"Hey, Jack?" Sue asked when she saw his car pull into the driveway and waited by the front door for him. "What's wrong?" She worriedly asked, seeing his worn look on his face.
"You're home!" Mellody exclaimed as she and Chris ran down the stairs and into his arms.
Immediately, he put on a smile for the two. "Yes, I am! I see you had a good day?"
Chris nodded. "Mmhmm. Uncle Mark watched us and we played games and watched movies and played outside and ate fun food!"
"You did! That sure does sound like a fun day." He said, gently setting them back down on the ground. "I'm sure dinner's ready soon. Why don't you guys go get ready?"
"OK!" they exclaimed, running into the kitchen.
"Everything OK?" Sue asked, seeing his worn look come back once the kids disappeared.
"Now that I'm home? Definitely." He said, smiling at his wife as they walked into the kitchen, hand in hand.
