Chapter 7
Camilo
I woke up that morning earlier than usual. I looked around my room. Most things had changed, except for the pictures.
In my room, there's this wall. At the beginning, it was covered in mirrors, but then more and more photos got added into it. Now, when I look at myself in the mirror, I barely see myself. It's supposed to help me with my gift, to help me see all my appearances at once.
I slid out of bed, and got dressed. I thought about the previous day. Shayla's gift was awesome, but... It could be a struggle. I suddenly had an idea. I could help her, but I'd need help.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO JUMP?!" Shayla yelled at me. I rubbed my temples.
I'd spent most of the morning discussing my idea with Mirabel.
I'd gotten an idea to help Shayla with her gift. So, naturally, we were on the roof.
"Look, you can teleport," I told her, "So, I thought that maybe you can jump off the roof, and then teleport to safety."
"You know you're crazy, right?" Shayla said.
"Yes, it's one of my many gifts."
Shayla raised an eyebrow.
"If it helps, I told him the same thing," Mirabel told Shayla. Shayla crossed her arms. She was wearing a plain skirt with a very ornate blouse. Mirabel was experimenting with new clothes also, because instead of her usual style, she was wearing a white dress with brightly colored embroideries. Her purse was slung across her shoulder, as usual.
"Look of you fall, one of my birds will carry you to safety," My brother, Antonio, explained. Ah, forgot to mention he was a part of my plan. Well, Antonio was a part of my plan. There. I explained it.
"A bird? I don't think a bird will be strong enough to carry me," Shayla told him.
"I have really strong birds," Antonio said.
Shayla turned to me.
"You know what? I'll do it," She said, a wicked grin on her face, "But you, Camilo, have to jump with me."
"Alright," I said, "I trust you won't let us fall."
Shayla's smirk turned into a smile.
"Ok," She said, "Let's do this."
I grabbed her hand and we jumped.
The first few times, Antonio's brids had to carry us. Then, we finally made it into a void.
The good thing: We didn't crash against the hard floor.
The bad thing: Shayla had no idea how to get us out of the void.
"Well... This definitely didn't go as planned," I said.
"Yeah," Shayla's face was paler than usual.
"Try to visualize where you want to go. That usually helps me with my shapeshifting," I told her.
Shayla nodded. She gripped my hand, as if she were afraid I'd float away, and close her eyes.
"Is it working?" She asked, her eyes still closed.
"Keep trying--" I started, then the void opened from under us, and we were spit out onto the rooftop.
We did the same thing three more times, until Shayla felt safe enough to do it on her own.
I turned to my little brother.
"Hey," I crouched down to his level, "Thanks a lot for helping us. Your animals did great."
"He's right," Mirabel said, "You did great. Thank you for coming when we asked you to."
"You're welcome," Antonio said.
Shayla then landed next to us.
"Hi," she said.
"Hola," Mirabel said. Shayla smiled. I opened my mouth to say something, when someone spoke from behind us.
"What are you four doing up here?!"
