Author's Note: I've always wondered: "What were the Riders' reactions to Hiccup's sudden tall height?" And so, this little one-shot was born! =D

Hello, all and welcome back to "Sticks and Stones!" =D I hope you guys are having an awesome evening, and other than that, I don't have much to say. XD So, I hope you guys enjoy this edition to "Sticks and Stones!" =)

Summary: Hiccup wakes up one morning feeling different. It turns out that he has had a growth spurt, and he's now the tallest of the Dragon Riders. Snotlout does not take this news very well. (Pre RTTE.)

Growth Spurt

Hiccup didn't think that it would happen so quickly. The young Haddock had grown used to being short and small for his age, and he thought that he would always stay the same height. Maybe he would grow a little bit, but not nearly as much as other vikings his age.

But he was proved wrong, though, when one morning, he strapped on his prosthetic, slipped out of bed, and stretched. He felt different. Not a bad or unpleasant kind of different, but different as if something had changed.

Hiccup didn't pay any attention to this feeling. In fact, he proceeded with his morning routine. He hopped onto Toothless and the two went on their morning flight, taking bliss in the wonderful sunrise and the soft touch of the wind as they soared above the clouds. Hiccup and Toothless soon returned from their flight and landed in front of the Dragon Training Academy, striding inside with a smile on his face. For some reason, Hiccup felt more elated than usual. He didn't know why, but he liked the pleasant feeling, and he hoped that the others were having as great of a morning as he was.

"Top of the morning, everyone!" Hiccup said cheerfully as he walked inside the Academy. Everyone greeted Hiccup with a smile, and it was the twins who were the first to notice that something had changed about Hiccup.

Ruffnut blinked. Then she blinked again. "Hey, is it just me or does Hiccup look different?"

Tuffnut squinted his eyes and he scrutinized Hiccup, which made the young viking feel a little uncomfortable. The male Thorston nodded, concurring with his sister's statement.

"You're right, sis," said Tuffnut. "Something has changed about our dear Hiccup."

Hiccup raised an eyebrow. "Uhh…what?"

Astrid stood up from where she was sharpening her axe. "What are you guys talking about? Nothing's changed about Hiccup. He looks exactly the…" Astrid trailed off when her gaze turned to Hiccup. Her eyes widened and she exclaimed, "Oh, Thor, you're right."

"I have no idea what you guys are referring to, but Hiccup looks exactly the same as he always has," Snotlout said as he crossed his arms.

"No, he doesn't," Fishlegs said as he walked up to the young viking. Hiccup was surprised to find that he was looking down at Fishlegs a little. Hiccup laughed awkwardly.

"Okay, you guys, staring at me is getting a little uncomfortable…" he said.

"You really don't notice anything?" asked Astrid.

Ruffnut snorted. "And he's supposed to be the smart one."

"What are you guys talking about?" Hiccup spluttered in utter bemusement. He had no idea what his friends were saying that was so different about him. He felt perfectly normal! He felt like, well, Hiccup! "There's nothing different about me!"

"Oh, yes there is," said Tuffnut with a smirk. He slipped next to Hiccup's side and grinned. "Yup, I thought so."

"You thought what?" asked Hiccup.

Tuffnut shook his head. "From this moment forward, Hiccup is going to be known as the unobservant one, not me and Ruff, okay guys?"

"I can't believe you haven't noticed anything, Hiccup," said Ruffnut.

"Notice what?!" exclaimed Hiccup.

"Hiccup," said Astrid. A small, amused smile crawled onto her face. "You had a growth spurt."

A growth spurt? That was it? Hiccup looked down at himself. Then he turned to Tuffnut, who he surpassed in height. Hiccup blinked owlishly.

"W-wait. A growth spurt? No, no, no, that can't be true," said Hiccup. He stepped away from Tuffnut. "I'm short, remember?"

"Not anymore you're not," said Ruffnut with a smile. "You grew. You grewwwww."

"No way, I'm with Hiccup," Snotlout said as he walked over to where the other Riders were standing, an unconvinced look on his face. "I've always been taller than Hiccup." He stood next to his cousin and held his head up proudly. "See?"

There was snickering. And then, full on laughter. Snotlout glared at his friends and snapped, "What is it?"

"You're…you're short!" chortled Astrid.

"What?! No, I'm not!" Snotlout exclaimed. He turned to Hiccup, who was holding in a laugh as well. Snotlout paled when he realized that he was looking up at his cousin and not down at him.

"This can't be happening," said Snotlout in horror. Even Hiccup couldn't keep back a smile.

"Wait, wait, wait, does this mean we can call Snotlout 'shorty'?'" asked Ruffnut as she laughed.

Tuffnut gasped. "We could just call him…Shortlout!"

Fishlegs, Astrid, Tuffnut, and Ruffnut doubled over in laughter, and Hiccup couldn't help but laugh along. Snotlout's expression was priceless, and Hiiccup couldn't believe that he, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third who was known as tiny and short, had actually had a growth spurt and was now taller than his own cousin! Snotlout loved to brag about how he was bigger and better than Hiccup. But now, Hiccup was taller than him!

"I'm not going down in history like this!" Snotlout declared. This only made the Riders laugh harder. "I'll…I'll have a growth spurt too!"

"When will that be, Shortlout?" asked Tuffnut as he wiped a tear from his eye.

"Um…um…Tomorrow!" announced Snotlout. "I'll come back here tomorrow morning towering over you all!"

"That's not possible," said Fishlegs. "Growth spurts aren't very common, and you might grow just a little bit more before your height becomes permanent."

Snotlout's eyes widened. "You mean…I'm gonna be short forever?!"

"It sounds like it," said Ruffnut with an impish grin.

"Oh, Thor, no. No, no, no," Snotlout said as he shook his head. "There's no way I'm living the rest of my life shorter than Hiccup!"

"Then you better go and start drinking your milk," said Astrid with a snicker.

"I will!" Snotlout said determinedly as he mounted Hookfang. "I'll drink so much milk that I'll probably surpass all of you in height, not just Hiccup!"

"We'll be waiting here!" said Astrid as she waved to Snotlout as he flew off. She, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Fishlegs, and Hiccup burst into laughter once again.

"I can't believe I'm actually taller than Snotlout…" Hiccup said.

"Me neither," said Tuffnut. "I honestly thought you'd stay short forever." He paused. "No offense."

"None taken," said Hiccup. "To be frank, I thought the same thing."

"I think it's cool," said Astrid as she slipped to Hiccup's side, grinning. "It'll take some getting used to, but wow. You're the tallest out of all of us now."

Hiccup couldn't believe it himself. He had grown overnight, and he was now the tallest of the Dragon Riders. He never thought that he would grow any taller than he originally was or grow taller than Snotlout. Hiccup smiled to himself.

"Yeah, well," he said. "I'm still the same old me despite my height."

"Yup," said Tuffnut. He stood at Hiccup's other side. "I bet if you were a giant, you'd still be the same."

"I bet he was tiny," said Ruffnut. "He'd still be the same."

Hiccup chuckled. Despite his height, he was still the same on the inside. He looked out toward the direction Snotlout had left and said, "Anyone up for seeing how Snotlout's quest for a growth spurt is going?"

"You know I am," said Astrid. And the Dragon Riders mounted their dragons and set off to find Snotlout, who probably wouldn't grow as tall as he would want despite the amount of milk he drank.

Author's Note: And that's that. Snotlout's short, Hiccup's tall. He's tallllllll. =D

I hope you guys enjoyed this one-shot, and I'll see ya'll in the next one-shot, drabble...yeah. Whatever comes next! X)
