Chapter 4: City Crackdown
After the terrible battle with the Eggman giant, the gang regroups back at Tails' workshop for Sonic gets a hug out of nowhere. "Oh Sonic, I'm so worried about you," a pink hedgehog gets him into a bear hug for Mina isn't worried about this since Amy gave up on her crush on Sonic years ago and she is now on good terms with both Sonic and Mina as friends.
"Amy, watch it. Sonic is hurt," Tails said to get Amy off of him as Sonic gives him a thumbs up for that. Sonic sits down on the couch as the others are being put in the med bay. "Nicole, set up the equipment and get our friends ready for healing," Tails asked.
"Of course," Nicole appears in front of everyone which surprises them seeing a pretty-looking brown Lynx. "I'm surprised, my name is Nicole. Tails' new AI partner," Nicole greets the others feeling a bit shy.
"Quite the sweetheart you made Tails, she's so cute," Rouge compliments Nicole's beauty with the cat growing like a furry tomato.
"She's a big help around the lab," Tails said as Omega puts the last guy on the tables with Vector, Mighty, and Shadow inside the med bay. "Nicole run some tests on their condition and apply the correct method of treatment," Tails said.
"Sonic, how are you doing lately?" Amy asked having a bright expression on her face.
"Amy, are you oblivious or something? We have a crazy wizard going around here and Eggman is now dead; killed by the same crazy wizard," Sonic explained.
"Wow, you got a handful this week huh. You can count me, an enemy of you is an enemy of my," Amy gives him a thumbs up.
"Good, we need everyone if this is guy is very dangerous," Sonic said as he notice a familiar orange echidna wearing her black bodysuit.
"Man Sonic, you got into something that's beyond crazy. Once again," Shade gives him a sly smile.
"Hey, Shade didn't see you there," Sonic said as Shade twirls her pistol in her fingers and lets it drop back into its holster.
"Yep, any lady that's not Mina is just an invisible wall to you. Anyway, I heard all the crap that's been going on, Knuckles send me to aid you via Tails' request," Shade asked.
"Of course," Sonic gives Shade a handshake welcoming her on the mission.
Rouge goes up to Shadow lying on the table seeing he's still bleeding from his wounds from the last battle. "Shadow, are you alright?" Rouge asked her voice is very soft.
"Yeah, I'm built tougher than that," Shadow said as Rouge gives him a big pout.
"Do not act like the tough guy, you are seriously hurt," Rouge feeling guilty for not doing more as Shadow reaches out and touches her tan cheek.
"I know, do want to hinder you with my wounds," Shadow gets looked after by Nicole.
"Don't worry Rouge, he's in good hands," the AI is scanning his body with Rouge getting a call on her phone.
Rouge answers it as explosions are heard in the background. "Agent Rouge. This is Agent Madonna. We need backup; Station Square is coming overrun by Eggman's Egg pawns. Our defense gird has been knocked out by a virus. Repeat, we need to assist…" the call suddenly cuts off as Rouge doesn't like this one bit.
"Guys, turn on the TV," Rouge commanded as Espio flickers on the television with news reports ablaze with images of the Egg Fleet flying over Station Square and Egg pawns murdering people on the streets.
"Damn it, looks like this Naugus is making his move," Sonic said as Shade ponders about this attack.
"There are movements and numbers suggest they have no goals on taking over the city. After the bank heist, there might be looking for another Chaos Emerald but why?" Shade is thinking as Rouge's mind clicks.
"There is a gem inside the G.U.N base but it's deep in an underground bunker underneath the main building. We have to travel through the enemy-filled streets on foot," Rouge said.
Tails check their numbers; Vector, Shadow, and Mighty are out for the count leaving himself, Sonic, Espio, Charmy, Rouge, Shade, Mina, Amy, and Omega left. "Okay, we need people to help G.U.N fend off the bots while others will go and grab the emerald," Tails said.
"I'll lead the effort to protect the city. Omega, Shade, and Charmy, you are coming with me," Rouge said with the three nodding in agreement.
"Okay, Mina, Sonic, Amy, and Espio will head for the gemstone," Tails said.
"What about you Tails?" Amy asked.
"I am going to help repair Station Square's defense network. Once we can reactivate, it will take care of the rest," Tails said.
"Okay, good luck guys," Shadow wishes them luck as they head outside to wait for their transport to come to pick them up.
"Gee, what is taking so long?" Sonic taps his foot on the dirt getting impatient to get into the action.
"Oh Mina, I got a treat for you. Pull out your arm cannon," Tails said as Mina handed over her weapon to him. He opens a hatch to insert an orb within it. "This is Wisp Module, it contains certain Wisp energy allowing you to unleash colored Wisp powers in combat," Tails said.
"Thanks, Tails. This will come in handy," Mina said with a smile.
"Oh, I can teach you on the certain powers of Wisp babe," Sonic said as he begins to explain the basics of the Wisp powers.
"Thank you, sweetheart," Mina said as a GUN transport helicopter hovers above them to begin landing on the dirt. They see a familiar female wolf sporting blond hair and dark brown skin clad in a white and black bodysuit along with a long grey cape.
"Good to see you Sonic," she said in a soft tone that is close to a whisper.
"Hey Whisper, what's up?" Sonic said as Whisper nods her head with her eyes holding in tight slits.
"Nothing but bad news. Robotnik is planning his attack on Station Square and GUN's military base," Whisper checking her new rifle as she leads them into the helicopter to speed off into the distance.
"This is going to get hot out there. Hold on tight, people. Whisper prepare, you are aiding Tails in fixing the defensive gird," the human pilot said.
"Hello Whisper, a nice rifle you have there," Rouge said as Whisper is holding out her prototype weapon which GUN is giving her to test run.
"This is called a Combat Adaptable Platform or CAP for short. It's a weapon that can be used mods make it into different modes. It can become a laser gun, an RPG, a flamethrower, or a shotgun. Then they are more powerful special mods. I am field testing it now," Whisper said as she has several mods in her field gear.
"Sounds impressive, our soldiers should be equipped with the best to fight threats like Ixis Naugus and his minions," Rouge said as Whisper looks confused by the name.
"I thought we are fighting against Eggman?" the markswoman asked.
"Nope, things have changed for the worse," Sonic said as he explains what happened to the Pilot and Whisper for they have quite fearful of this.
"Eggman is dead," Whisper opens her eyes very wide by this terrible news. Sonic only noticed Whisper only opens her eyes when she is deeply alerted which is rare for her normally reserved calm nature. "I hate that man but the way he went out like that. No one deserves that fate," Whisper said
"Yes, and we are fighting someone even more dangerous than we can imagine," Sonic said as it took all they had to put down the Eggman giant with Shadow, Vector, and Mighty getting badly hurt in the fight.
"Interesting, we have no records like that here in GUN's threat lists," Whisper said.
"Then what the hell are we doing with if Eggman is dead and running the Eggman empire," the pilot said as they see over the mountains to see Station Square under siege. The fleets of GUN and the Naugus are duking it out in the air while GUN soldiers consisting of both Mobians and Humans fighting the Eggman robots in the streets of Station Square.
"It's a warzone out there," Shade said as the pilot detects several Badniks flying towards them.
"Oh shit, taking evasive maneuvers," the pilot said as he sees the machine shooting missiles at the helicopter. The pilot is popping flares to distract the missiles away from the transport. "whisper take them out," the pilot said.
"I am on it," Whisper switches her CAP into laser rifle mode as she pulls down her mask which has a rangefinder and binoculars increasing her vision making her shoot better. She aims with CAP Laser Rifle to fire solid bolts of red energy to easily take out the flying machines in precise shots.
"Impressive as always," Sonic said as Whisper gives him a thumbs up.
"I will have your back Tails once we get the ground by the defensive gird," Whisper said.
"Right but I can handle myself," Tails said as Whisper nods her head.
"Of course, I am here for backup," Whisper said as they are now above the city with the battle taking place below them.
"Okay, Team A go help our boys and girls down there. Fighting the good fight," the pilot said as Rouge, Charmy, Omega and Shade are preparing to jump off the helicopter.
"Good luck out there," Sonic said.
"Don't worry, we got this Big Blue," Rouge said as the four leaped off the transport to leap onto the streets to see a horde of Egg Pawns shooting their blasters at the soldiers.
"Rouge and Omega, thank goodness you're here," a soldier said in their radios.
"Oh Derek, is the line holding," Rouge said as she looks to see a male human piloting a Big Foot walker to unleash a barrage of gunfire from his mech's minigun to mow down tons of Egg Pawns.
"Somewhat good but some of their forces broke into the base," Derek said as he is moving his Big Foot into position to give his comrades covering fire. "Hey Charmy, we got EMP grenades here. You can fly over and EMP those guys into scrap metal," Derek said on the radio.
"Cool, I want to help out with that," Charmy said as he flies over to see a cat GUN soldier giving him the bombs.
"Here Charmy, take these. Don't drop them," the cat GUN soldier said with caution.
"You got it," Charmy said as Omega is unleashing hails of bullets from his Gatling guns in his arms. Rouge tosses her sticky bombs to latch onto Egg Pawn and watch set off a chain reaction destroying groupings of them at once.
Shade activates her wrist energy blades to go in and slice robots into piles of scrap. She kicks an Egg Pawn into the side of a building with her cutting down nearby enemy machines.
Soon enough more soldiers and GUN robots come in to reinforce the battle line. "Sorry, I am late," a bright voice said as someone jumps on top of an Egg Pawn to crush it with her powerful long ringtail.
"Oh Tangle, perfect timing. Where are your teammates?' Rouge asked to see the big smile of Tangle the Lemur. She is bouncing around the field of battle using her tail as both a tool for movement and as a weapon to take out robots.
"Shard and Rookie are taking care of business in another section of the city where they are needed," Tangle leaps on top of a lamppost and pounce onto an Egg Pawn to smash it to pieces. She grabs it with her tail and lobs it into another Eggman Pawn.
"Take this," Charmy tosses EMP grenades to pepper them with electric blasts knocking them all out making them easy targets.
"Easy like shooting fish in a barrel," Omega fires a swarm of micro missiles to destroy chunks of enemies. Derek is using his Big Foot walker to clear out the rest of the Egg Pawns.
"Cool, we managed to hold this area. Madonna, Shard, and Ace are holding out in another section. They can use your help over there," Derek said as he transfers data to them to show the sections they need to help with.
"Cool, we are on it. Let's do it, to it. Oh, I always wanted to say that," Tangle said as she, Shade, Omega, Rouge, and Charmy go off to the other side of Station Square. Bean, Fang, and Bark are watching from the rooftops.
"Boss lady, we got sight of our targets," Bean said on his radio.
"Good, seek and destroy," Sally said as she and Bunnie go to the Defense Grid to protect it from Sonic and his friends from reactivating it.
"Of course, Boss lady," Bean said as Bean prepares ice bombs from his bomb gloves.
"Let's do this," Fang wielding a sniper rifle to stay on the rooftops with Bean and Bark going down the streetside to encounter the others.
"This will be fun," Bean said as they hoop down the side of the building to begin their fight against Rouge and the others. Fang sets up his laser sight to trace his targets.
"Indeed," Fang said as Sonic, Amy, Mina, and Espio are seeing their target from the helicopter.
"Thanks for the lift buddy," Sonic said.
"Be careful down there, I detect crazy amounts of machines down there. Some GUN machines can aid you if you can find them," the pilot said.
'We will manage. Good Luck Tails and Whisper, we are counting on you," Mina said.
"We will," Tails said as Whisper pats Tails on the back.
"We got this," she said softly to put Tails at ease as they see the fierce battle down below.
"What a mess," Espio said to twist his kunai in his finger.
"Come on, let's secure that Chaos Emerald," Amy said as the four sees they are above the main Gun building to leap on top of the roof to see a large Egg Giant trying to hit them with its huge hammer. "Eat this," Amy summons her hammer to clash with the machine's hammer to knock it out of its hands. Sonic uses a spin dahs to knock down the giant while Mina uses her arm cannon to tap into a Wisp module Laser to unleash a big beam of energy to turn the robot into burned metal.
"Cool its works, thanks for the tips Sonic," Mina said as she is getting the hang of the Wisp powers within the arm cannon.
"No prob babe, let's get that emerald," Sonic said as they start to descend the building to run down the fleet of stairs. More Egg Pawns, this is getting annoying," Espio said as he is wielding his daggers to stab and cut into the robots. Amy is bashing them away with her hammer along Mina is using Cube to entrap the upcoming Egg Pawns in energy cubes with Sonic, Amy, and Espio taking them out.
Mina overs a cubed enemy to fire electro balls to blast them scrap as she uses her speed to evade incoming bullets and explosions from the Badniks. "Hover," Mina fires a blast from her arm cannon into the army of Egg Pawns to make them float helplessly in the air.
Sonic uses his Homing Attack to pick them off one by one knocking them into walls to break apart on impact. Espio tosses explosive kunais to take out the rest of the floating robots.
"Nice trick," Espio said.
"It's nothing, just a twist of the wrist," Mina said as they find a lift that will take them to the storage area deep underground where the Chao Emerald is held in. Soon enough the lift begins to act up as it slows down.
"Oh crap, what now?" Sonic wondered as Espio sensed a hand phasing through the wall coming for Sonic's head.
"Sonic, look out," Espio uses his dagger to cut the ghostly hand to make Geist stop possessing the lift. Mina fires an electro ball as Geist flies out of there to avoid the blast. Geist goes to possess the lift cables to make the elevator keep falling trying to kill them in a fiery explosion.
"Get out now," Mina said as she performs the Wisp move Hover onto themselves to make them harmlessly float in the air as their elevator crashes down below.
"Purge into twists of metal and wires," Geist begins to possess the wires around them to begin using them like metal whips. Espio, Amy and Sonic are fending them off but they get cut and slash by the whipping wires and metal bars.
Mina uses the Wisp power Void to fire a black hole above them to suck up all the possessed wires and bars disappear leaving Geist with nothing to use against them.
"Crap," Geist said as he pops out with Mina firing her arm cannon to fire a powerful ball of flames to send him flying into the elevator corridor. Geist gets caught in Mina's Burst explosion to rock the whole lift shaft.
"Nice job Mina," Sonic said.
"Well executed," Espio sounding impressed as well.
"It's all thanks to Sonic's experience with the Wisp," Mina said as Amy feels happy about them.
"Gee, I never stand a chance huh. Mina is always by Sonic's side and always has his back, I am happy Sonic found someone good for him" Amy thought said as they float down to reach the storage area in the lowest levels of the GUN building.
"Okay, time to find this Chaos Emerald and then kick this bearded weird out of here," Sonic said as the four rushed inside with Metal and Ether being there as well.
"Sir, the hedgehog is within the lower levels," Metal said via magical telepathy
Elsewhere Whisper and Tails are heading for the defense gird to encounter incoming flying robots. "Oh shit, brace for impact," the drones were trying to hit the helicopter as it takes several hits for it begins to fall towards the Grid building.
"Whisper, hold on to me," Tails grabs her hands to be spinning his tails to hover them into the air as the helicopter crashes onto the side of the building causing a large explosion.
"Thank you Tails," Whisper said as they touchdown onto the roof.
"No problem Whisper, come on. Let's get to the control room," Tails said as Whisper knocks Tails over to avoid getting blasted by an energy beam.
"Shoot, I missed," Bunnie hovers with her rocket feet to land onto the roof along with her friend Sally Acorn using her grappling hook to leap onto the roof to be by Bunnie's side. "Oh, hey there little cutie. I think you back away but we hurt you," Bunnie said as she aims her arm cannon at Tails.
Whisper is between them to pull out her CAP weapon in both hands for it to be Laser Rifle mode. Whisper fires several precise shots at Sally with Bunnie summoning an energy barrier to protect her.
"Oh, who are you wolfy," Bunnie said as Sally knows all about Whisper.
"She is the legendary Guardian Angel. GUN's best sniper and top soldier. I heard you killed a lot of Black Arms aliens a few years back," Sally said as Whisper is gearing up for a fight.
"Yes, I picked up over 500 kills in that campaign," Whisper said as she raises her rifle to pull down her mask to activate the combat sensors in them. "Tails, go now," she said as she points to a lift door.
"Right, be careful. Sally is the leader of a powerful group of Gun for Hires called the Hooligan INC," ail said.
"I know all about Sally Acorn. I will not underestimate her," Whisper said as Tails runs off with Bunnie shooting him but Whisper deploys a shield grenade to summon an energy bubble to protect Tails. Tails get inside to head downward with Whisper blowing up the door so they can't follow Tails. "You will have to go through me if you need to get down to the Defense Gird control room," Whisper said.
"Look here Sal, we got ourselves a little puppy dog to play with," Bunnie said as Sally activates her wrist rings to summon holographic blades.
"We will make this quick," Sally said as they both double team via rushing at her from different angles.
"That is my line," Whisper opens up her eyes wide open as she tosses a smoke grenade to cover up her movement. Whisper switches her CAP to RPG mode to start launching rockets to see right through the smoke with her visor built within the mask.
Sally and Bunnie maneuver away from the rockets but Bunnie takes a rocket head-on as Sally looks worried. "Bunnie," Sally said as Bunnie uses her forcefield to protect herself against the barrage of explosions.
"Don't worry Sal, I am fine," Bunnie said as she counterattacks to unleash waves of energy beams from her arm cannon. Sally tosses a grenade to blow the smoke away with Whisper gets behind cover to swap to Drone mode. She fires a disc into the air for it to hover above Bunnie and Sally as it fires lasers bolts in all directions.
"Oh crap," Sally said as she gets inside Bunnie's shield but the fast rate of lasers easily cuts through her shield like nothing. "Take cover," Sally said as the drone is high above peppering the roof with tons of laser fire.
Whisper needs the drone to act as a distraction as she switches to Needler Mode. She spins the barrel of her CAP to unleash a wave of homing bolts making both Sally and Bunnie.
"Get behind me Sal," Bunnie creates a dome of energy to take all the bolts to impale into the barrier. "How cute, you think these darts can break my barrier," Bunnies mocks her as all of 20 bolts hit the barrier causing a chain reaction of explosions to break the barrier instantly.
Whisper tosses a smoke grenade to give herself cover as she wields a stun knife to go in for close combat. "What the hell, I thought your barrier can block that," Sally said as Whisper swiftly attacks the duo using knife attacks and stun grenades to keep them off balance.
"It does but those needles break through my shield like wet paper," Bunnie said as she is blocking Whisper's quick stabs and slashes. Whisper ducks under Bunnie's punch to follow up with a series of kicks to launch her into the air.
Sally is swinging her holo blades to twist her wrists trying to catch Whisper off guard. She is deflecting her strikes with her knife as Bunnies comes in to help her friend but Whisper shoves Sally away. She drives her knife into her chest to begin shocking Bunnie hearing her let out a painful scream.
Bunnie fires a sonic blast from her arm cannon to blow Whisper away as she catches herself in midair. Sally shoots a grappler hook to latch onto Whisper's suit to pull her towards Sally. Whisper avoids at the last minute from Sally's wrist blades but Bunnie kicks her in the stomach to send her flying into a wall.
"Damn it," Whisper said as she spits blood onto her bodysuit.
"Running out of tricks, little pup," Bunnie said as Whisper opens her eyes again to be looking pretty fierce despite her normally calm disposition.
"Not a chance," she uses a flash grenade to blind the two women as she jumps down the lift shaft. "Time to change the battlefield to aid in my favor," Whisper said to head for the large warehouse area.
"Damn it, we need to deal with her before heading the control room," Sally said as Bunnie nods her head for the duo to head down the shaft to give chase.
Back with Nicole watching the news feeds to see Station Square become a warzone seeing all her friends fighting off all the robots and enemy Mobians serving their new boss. "We need to get this under control," Nicole said as she checks the status of Mighty, Vector, and Shadow.
"Nicole, let me out of here," Shadow said as he gets out of the table but Nicole holds him down.
"No Shadow, you need rest. Have faith in the others, they will do fine out there," Nicole said.
"Fine, this crisis is getting out of hand. We are going into the dark on this one. Ixis Naugus, an enemy from another world," Shadow said.
"It's no different than all the enemies you all faced before. You all fought Eggman multiple times along with the old Metal Sonic, Chaos, the Biolizard, Black Doom along with Black Arms, the Metarex, and the Imperator Ix along with the Nocturnus Clan. You are quite battle-hardened at this point and you guys can handle anything life throws at you," Nicole said.
"You are right but it feels different this time. I don't know but we need everything we got if we are going to get out of this one," Shadow said as he is worried about Rouge and Omega. "Don't die out there, guys," Shadow said in silence.
Nicole ponders to look over at a special plant Miles takes care of. "Speaking of old Metal Sonic, I heard from Tails he works for GUN now?" Nicole asked as he walks over to the plant to check on its condition.
"Yes, he goes by Shard the Metal Sonic. He is working with GUN Task Force X which is Whisper's four-man unit made of herself, Tangle, Ace, and Shard himself," Shadow said.
"Are they good?" Nicole asked.
"Trust me, Nicole. They are the second-best team right under my Team Dark in GUN," Shadow said.
"Okay. The more allies, the better," Nicole said as she pours energy into the plant to see how it would react.
"What is that plant?" Shadow asked.
"It's a memento from Cosmo from three years ago," Nicole said as Shadow's eyes widen by this.
"He kept it for this long," Shadow said as Nicole gently handles Cosmo's seedling.
"Yes, he never gave up hope for her to return. He suffered painful nightmares for three long years and now her seed is beginning to grow," Nicole said as Shadow feels empathy for the young teenaged fox.
"It took a long time for me to get over Maria and what happened to her. I hope he finds what he is looking for," Shadow said showing pity for Tails.
"That's sweet Shadow," Nicole said.
"Yeah, yeah. I need to get back in fighting shape as soon as possible," Shadow said as Nicole smiles to know Shadow despite being a bit rough around the edges, is a truly empathic person who truly cares about his friends. Nicole runs the program to keep Shadow recovering from his wounds.
"Cosmo, you would be so proud of Tails," Nicole said as she looks at the screen to see the destruction of the city taking place.
Back with Rouge, Omega, Charmy and Shade are teaming up with a GUN unit led by Agent Madonna piloting a Big Foot mech. "Oh thank goodness. You are just in time. Shard and Tangle are here helping out," Madonna said as Rouge spots more Egg Pawns with Fang in position using his sniper rifle to aim for Rouge's head.
"Say good night, batgirl," Fang said as he is about to pull the trigger.
Omega detects someone on the rooftops. "Rouge, enemy sniper detected," Omega fires his rockets at his location as Fang is shifting position.
"Shit, Bark, and Bean. Time for the show to begin," Fang said as he takes his sniper rifle to cock the bolt with Bean setting remote bombs around the area to trigger destroying the foundations of buildings making them fall towards the groups of GUN troops.
One of the buildings is falling towards the group with Omega firing a powerful beam of energy to vaporize it into dust. Bean tosses freeze bombs to turn Omega into a block of ice as Bark kicks him into a wall making it collapse on top of him.
"Omega, Bark, and Bean. Dumb and Dumber here to grace us with their presence," Rouge said as Bark tosses debris at the group. Madonna open fires with her Big Foot mech to destroy the incoming flying rubble.
"Hey, sweet cheeks. No need to be calling us names," Bean tosses blast bombs from his special bomb gloves to let out a series of explosions. Rouge, Shade, and Charmy braced for impact with debris kicking up from all the blasts made by the bombs.
"What the hell," Shade summons her energy blade to engage with Bark and Bean with Rouge backing her up. Fang is keeping them off balance with his precise shots as Shade is deflecting his shots but Bark punches her in the chest to launch her into a window.
"Shade," Rouge tosses a flashbang to blind bark as she delivers a strong drill kick to knock Bark into a light pole breaking it on impact
"Hey big guy, keep you're A-game up," Bean is charging a large bomb to toss it at the group with Madonna is shooting it out of the air with her mech triggering a large explosion knocking them all backward.
Shade grabs onto a pole to swing back at Bark with her energy blade to cut and thrust leaving bloody marks onto his torso. Bark is trying to hit her but Shade is too quick for him to land a solid blow.
"Activating Leech Blade," Shade empowers her energy blade to cut into Bark's arm to seep him of his life energy making him feel weaker while making Shade feel stronger. "Give me your life force and I beat you into a bloody pulp," Shade said as she keeps slashing the big polar bear to keep draining him while making Shade strong and able to fight.
"Damn it Bark," Bean tosses an ice bomb to freeze Shade and then kicks her into a window. Rouge is dodging bullets from Fang but she felt a sharp sting as the bullet went through her left-wing making her kneel on the ground in pain.
"Gee, this sucks," Rouge tosses a proximity bomb trying to hold off the duo but Fang shoots out the bomb-making it explodes. Bean attacks Madonna's Big Foot to cripple out of the legs. "Where is our backup?" Rouge asked as Fang is having fun killing soldiers as he feels a tap on his back.
He looks over to see a cheerful-looking female ring-tailed lemur in a tracksuit. "Hey there, weasel," Tangle roundhouse kicks him across the roof.
"Our backup is here," Madonna said as Shard is using his jet boosters to fly across the rooftop.
"Coming through," Shade deploying flares to distract Bark and Bean with Omega busting out of the ruins to punch Bark sending him flying into a building.
"Omega, tons of enemies dead ahead," Shard said as the friendly Metal Sonic flies over Omega to see thousands of Eggman robots rushing down the streets. "Come Omega, let's turn them into Swiss cheese," Shard said as the two robots unload their barrages of weapons at the robotic minions turning them all to scrap metal.
"Your plan is blown wide open," Tangle goes on the attack with her long tail using it like a whip with Fang trying to use his dual pistols to blast her but Tangle is using her agility and tail to cause him to miss his shots. She gains the distance and uses her tail to strike him down knocking him into a wall.
"Damn it, doesn't matter. We did our jobs distracting them, the boss and Bunnie are going after the real prize," Fang said on the radio as he tosses a flashbang to blind Tangle to allow his escape.
"Bye suckers," Bean said as he uses a flash bomb to get out of there.
"Well, looks like we won this battle," Madonna said as every human and Mobian GUN soldiers were pretty happy about their small victory.
"But still, the Chaos Emerald is still in play," Rouge said.
"Sonic and his squad are on and if I know him. He will beat the crap of this new Metal Sonic as he did me so many times before. He will be fine," Shard said.
"Oh, where is your great leader Ace?" Shade asked Tangle.
"He went over to help out with Tails and Whisper after hearing about Sally and Bunnie assaulting that building. You know how tight Ace and Whisper are, Whisper's knight in shining armor or dark armor in his case," Tangle said to giggle at her best friend's future embarrassment.
"Indeed," Rouge said as they begin to clear up the streets of robots.
Elsewhere Whisper is deep within a warehouse area to hide from the sight of the two women. "Okay I need to set up some traps and control my environment," Whisper grabs some Bouncing Bettie mines to place them in certain locations. She also set up remote bombs on sections connected to her glove.
"Come on Sal, she got her gun and that's it. She is nothing without it," Bunnie said as the two women are within the warehouse area.
"She is the Guardian Angel, I heard she was quite legendary during the invasion of Black Arms. She has killed over a thousand Black Arms aliens of all types," Sally said as the duo are watching for the blond wolf.
"Gee, time to go on the defensive," Whisper pulls out her gloved hand to press the button to trigger a remote bomb. The pillar explodes causing it to fall towards Sally and Bunnie. The duo avoids the falling rubble as Whisper tosses a smoke grenade to cover her tracks. She uses her visor to see through the smoke as she switches to CAP Shotgun. She rushes to Bunnie to shove it into her chest to blast her with energy pellets to send her flying across the warehouse area.
"Bunnie, you little bitch," Sally is using her energy blades to dual with Whisper who is using her stun knife. Whisper deflects her blades with her knife to drop a flashbang to blind Sally with her mask protecting her from the bright flash.
Whisper kicks Sally in the knee as she shoves her knife into her arm to give her a painful shock. She sees Bunnie flying towards her firing her sonic cannon as she switches to another mod CAP RPG. She fires a rocket at Bunnie as she summons a barrier to take a big hit sending her flying across the room.
Sally tosses a stun grenade but Whisper rolls away to avoid the concussive force. She fires more rockets with Sally backflipping away as the explosives destroy sections of the warehouse.
Bunnie noticed a barrel filled with flammable gases as Whisper switched to the CAP Minigun. She presses down the trigger to unleash a hail of laser fire keeping the duo onto their toes. Bunnie fires a beam of energy from her arm cannon to trigger an explosion which knocks Whisper onto a crate dropping her CAP onto the floor.
"Oh no, my CAP is gone," Whisper said as she fires her wrist grapple hook to pull herself away from another laser blast. She draws out a pistol to fire several shots with Bunnie and Sally bringing up energy shields to block her bullets.
Whisper throws her flashbang grenade but Sally knocks it away as Bunnie uses her jet feet to ram into Whisper to grab her by the throat. Bunnie slams her into a wall pinning her there with her robotic arm. Due to super strength, Whisper is unable to break her hold. She pulls out her stun knife but Sally shoots it out of her hand with Whisper's CAP Laser Rifle.
"This weapon is pretty nice, what happened to your old Wispon?" Sally asked.
"It was destroyed by Metal Sonic along with my Wisp partners," Whisper said as she can feel Bunnie putting pressure on her neck trying to choke her out.
"Too bad sweetie, we bested you here," Bunnie said as Whisper gets a message from her leader Ace for he is very close by.
"Goodness Ace, my knight in armor as always. The element of surprise is on our side," Whisper said as she can see in her visor he is within the warehouse waiting for the time to strike. Bunnie points her am cannon at her head.
"Any last words before I ruin your pretty face?" Bunnie asked.
"Look up," Whisper said as Bunnie laughs at this joke.
"Come on, that is so lame. Right Sal," Bunnie said as Sally looks up to see a weird shadow-like creature looming over them.
"Phantom defend," a deep voice said as the Phantom swept over the area to strike at Bunnie in a swift tackle to get off Whisper.
"What is that?" Sally wondered as someone is fighting his pistol to make Sally take cover. A grappling hook grabs Sally by the neck to get pulled towards a corner. A raccoon greets her with a smirk to kick her in the head to knock her into a crate.
"Sorry former Princess Sally but I can't let you harm my little wolfy," Ace said as he summons back his Phantom who is blocking incoming shots from Sally. "Phantom attack," Ace dodge rolls while his living shadow called Phantom is tackling Sally to take back Whisper's CAP weapon.
"Thanks for the aid Ace," Whisper said as she greets a male raccoon Mobian clad in a blue and grey bodysuit along with a blue cap on his head and yellowish brown combat boots.
"No prob babe, always willing to help a beautiful wolf-like yourself," Ace put on the charm making the reserved wolf glow in the face.
"Gees, such a smooth talker," Whisper said as he finds his deep voice quite appealing. She checks her CAP to switch it to Laser Rifle to see Sally and Bunnie to ready for more.
"Doesn't matter puppy dog, we will take you both down and shut down the defense grid," Sally said as they rush at them.
"You do the honors dear," Ace said as Whisper nods her head to switch to CAP Lifter. She fires a dark orb to smash into them as it grows into an anti-gravity field leaving them hopelessly floating in midair.
Ace summons his Phantom to let out a barrage of tackles and dashes to cut into their bodies. Whisper goes back to her CAP RPG to fire a few rockets into the anti-gravity field setting up a chain reaction delivering a crazy amount of damage.
Sally and Bunnie suffer severe pain and bruises with Bunnie's robotic limbs shutting down due to too much damage. "Damn it, Sal. I can't make my limbs move anymore," Bunnie complained.
"Well, I need get you to safely. You won this time," Sally tosses a stun grenade to make their escape out of there.
"Well, that went well. You did well out there as usual," Ace said.
"Yes, but you helped me out of a jam. I am always grateful to you. Hopefully, Tails should be able to activate the defense network," Whisper said as Tails is in the control room being able to set up the defense systems back online.
"Good, Whisper did her job well. Reliable as always," Tails said as he taps the button to see the city's anti-air systems coming back to life. he looks outside to see the missiles and turrets fire onto the enemy airships. "Okay all we need to do is keep the emerald secured," Tails said.
Elsewhere Sonic, Espio, Amy, and Mina reached the vault room to see a ton of vaults littering the walls. "Gee, there are so many vaults. Where is this Chaos Emerald?" Sonic wondered as Metal Sonic, Geist and Ether were waiting for them inside.
"Seems like your little friends manage to reactivate GUN's defense network," Metal Sonic said as Sonic has a smirk on his face.
"Yep Tails and Whisper managed to pull as expected. Now your fleet s going to get blown out of the sky. Your new master's invasion failed Metal Sonic," Sonic said as Mina, Amy, and Espio are wielding their weapons preparing for a fight.
"All that matters is the emerald. Kill them," Metal ordered as Geist and Ether split up with Ether using her psychic grip onto multiple targets and flings them across the room. They all scattered to avoid getting hit as Geist is searching through the vaults by phasing through the heavy metal doors while Metal and Ether distract Sonic and his friends.
"Hover," Mina launches a shockwave from her arm cannon to make them float helplessly in the with Sonic, and Amy smashes them into them to knock them into a vault.
"That girl is using the powers of the Wisp," Metal Sonic remembers that time he fought Whisper and her old GUN squad the Diamond Cutters a few years ago right before the Black Arms aliens invaded the planet.
They also used Wisp via their custom Wispon weapons but he killed all her teammates pretty easily and destroy their Wispon along with their Wisps. "I fought against users of Wisps and it will not save you," Metal Sonic goes into a spin dash to launch himself.
Mina cast Hover again but Metal Sonic moves so fast he cancels out the move and slams into Mina to send her flying across the vast room.
"Mina," Sonic said as Espio and Amy go on the offensive with Ether blocking their pursuit with walls of psychic energy. Metal transforms his hand into a minigun to spread volleys of laser bolts to pepper the floor explosions kicking up dust into the air.
Ether grabs a huge crate from the ceiling to make it fall towards Amy and Espio. "Oh shoot," Espio said as Amy swings her big hammer to knock the crate away with fearsome force. "Thanks, Amy," Espio said.
"No problem," Amy said as they both press the attack with Mina getting back onto her feet to taste blood in the corner of her mouth.
"That smarts, Laser," she empowers herself to run at lightning-fast speed to speed blitz Ether who is holding back Amy and Espio. "Payback time," Mina delivers a mule kick to Ether's face to send her into a vault greatly hurting her back.
"Damn it," the blue vixen said as she summons a barrier to block another Laser empowered kick from Mina. She blows her backward with a psychic strike knocking her into Amy as Espio tosses smoke bombs to block her vision.
Espio blends into the surroundings becoming invisible as she sneaks past Ether to stab her in the back with his kunai. "Got you," Espio gets shoved into a wall via telekinetic attack.
Sonic and Metal trade homing attacks trying to overpower the other but each of their attacks cancel each other out. Metal uses his Minigun to unleash a barrage of laser fire with Sonic running at Mach speed to avoid the laser bolts. He is bouncing off the walls and ceiling to avoid all of them. Metal fires two hypersonic missiles quickly catching up to him.
"Oh crap," Sonic jumps onto a vault to leap off it to barely dodge the missiles but he gets caught in the explosion sending him towards Metal. He regains his balance in mid-air and delivers a downward kick to Metal but he blocks it with ease.
Sonic is using rapid kicks and homing attacks but Metal is managing to block his strikes. Metal Sonic catches Sonic's foot to bash him into the ground and then deliver a powerful kick to knock him across the floor.
"Don't you dare hurt Sonic, bolt brain," Amy comes in swinging with the hammer with Metal easily blocking and avoiding her attacks. Metal begins toying with her as he is gaining the upper hand with Sonic seeing this to prepare a Light Speed Attack.
Metal punches hard enough to break Amy's hammer to grab her by the throat and punch her across the room. He flies towards her with Amy flying over Sonic. Then Sonic uses his Light Speed Attack to slam into Metal launching themselves into a vault leaving a huge dent. Sonic backs away to use another one but Metal goes to use his Light Speed Attack.
Both are fighting so fast that everything around them has slowed to a crawl. They trade kicks and Homing Attacks at light speed trying to overpower the other. They were hitting so fast that each blow was making shockwaves shaking the whole vast area. The last blow cancels out their Light Speed states with Sonic circling Metal Sonic trying to catch him off guard.
Metal grabs him and kicks him far away to slam into a vault door leaving a huge dent. Metal flies at Mach speed to deliver a powerful kick into Sonic's stomach as the force of the blow breaks the large door down and Sonic falls inside the vault.
"Sonic," Mina and Amy said as Geist grabs an emerald from the vault. Mina wants to help Sonic but Ether is pinning her down via telekinesis.
"Metal, I got the emerald," Geist said as he is holding a yellow emerald.
"Perfect, here's a little gift from me Sonic," Metal fires a single ting beam of energy.
"Sonic lookout," Amy rushes in to tackle Sonic to knock him over and gets hit in the left ear blowing it off leaving a bloody gash on her head.
"Amy," Sonic looks over to see Amy's ear is missing with blood rushing down her head. "Metal Sonic, you will pay for this," Sonic said as Metal laughs at him.
"Little over to the left and there would be a burning hole in her forehead," Metal Sonic laughs at Amy's suffering with Sonic hating this new Metal Sonic who seems way more sadistic and ruthless than the old Metal Sonic aka Shard who became a good guy working for GUN. "We got our emerald, enjoy my gift Sonic," Metal said as he uses Chaos Control to warp all three out of there.
"Oh Amy," Mina said as Espio and Mina looked on with Sonic carrying Amy in his arms.
"Sonic, are you okay?" Amy asked.
"Amy, don't speak. Save your strength," Sonic said as they all get into the lift to head back outside.
"I can't just let you take the hit. You're my friend Sonic, I don't want to see you get hurt," Amy said.
"I need to get you to Nicole and she can fix you up," Sonic said.
"Yeah Amy, hold on. You will get your ear fixed," Mina said.
"Thanks, guys," Amy said as she falls asleep.
Sonic's allies and GUN manage to defend the city of Station Square but lose the emerald along with Amy being seriously injured.
Metal, Ether, and Geist appear before Naugus on the bridge along with Bean, Bark, Nack, Bunnie, and Sally standing there as well. "We manage to collect the Chaos Emerald sir," Metal said.
"Perfect, move the fleet away from the city. We are done here. Also, I need to seek out the Master Emerald and smash it to pieces so it would be a threat to me. How many guardians protect that thing in this world?" he asked Metal.
"Not many, only two guardians. Knuckles and Shade," Metal said as Naugus looks at the robot quite oddly.
"Only two, how convenient for me. In my world, there were tons of echidnas on that blasted Angel Island. Oh well, more reason to seek out the more Master Emerald and break it to pieces," Naugus said as he now has 2 emeralds out of 7 to head for Angel Island to execute another phase of his plan.
A/N: Shard the Metal Sonic is a character from the Archie Comic series who was an old Metal Sonic turned into a good guy.
