Author's Note: Heyo, all and welcome back to another edition to "Sticks and Stones!" =D I had a lot of fun writing this little drabble, so I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did writing it! =D
Summary: Hiccup breaks his ankle and is more than unhappy about it. After being tended to by Astrid, Toothless pities him, which is something that the young viking deeply despises. (RTTE.)
Dragon Pity
If Hiccup had one thing that he wished he could have, it would be to have his leg healed in an instant. Unfortunately, wishes like that weren't granted easily.
Hiccup yelped in pain as Astrid poked at his wrapped leg again. The young viking frowned and crossed his arms as he glared at the blonde.
"How many times are you going to poke at my broken leg? Until it gets even more broken?" he asked sharply.
Astrid held her hands up innocently. "I'm just checking if the fracture is bad."
"If it hurts when you touch it, then it's bad," said Hiccup.
The Hofferson shook her head. "You're really moody when you're hurt."
"I am not!"
"And petulant too," added Astrd. She examined Hiccup's leg again (with her eyes, not her hands), and tightened his bandages.
"Okay, you need to rest your leg until it heals. If you do get the proper amount of bedrest and you don't try to escape from this bed, you'll be good to start walking around again in about…four weeks."
"Four weeks?!" exclaimed Hiccup. Toothless's ears twitched from where he was standing. "That's forever! I can't stay in bed for four whole weeks! Who's going to make sure the twins and Snotlout don't do anything stupid? Who's going to make sure that all the work gets done? Who's going to make sure Viggo doesn't—"
"Hiccup!" Astrid cut him off. The Haddock silenced. "Don't worry! Four weeks will go by in no time. And as for every single chore on Dragon's Edge that you just listened to, the rest of us can handle all of that."
"But Viggo—"
"Maybe you broke your leg for a reason," said Astrid as she cleaned up the remaining bandages and the rest of the medical supplies. Hiccup only snorted. "Your obsession with stopping Viggo has gotten a little…unhealthy."
"What's unhealthy is me being stuck in this darn bed for four weeks," Hiccup retorted. He sat up. "Besides, I'm fine! I can prove it to your right now—"
Toothless suddenly flopped his head down on Hiccup's stomach, and the young viking groaned in frustration.
"Oh, come on!" he exclaimed. Toothless only garbled with laughter.
Astrid giggled, but she kept it concealed. "Anyway, take these four weeks as a break, Hiccup. You've been cooped up in the forge or clubhouse almost all day everyday trying to come up with new ideas to stop Viggo. You've been working non-stop. And I might have to agree with the twins about your 'tyrannical' behavior—"
"I'm not tyrannical!"
"Sure," said Astrid bluntly. She walked to the stairs. "Just…stay here and rest up, okay?" She smirked. "And try not to slip on any forge tools."
"Not funny, Astrid!" Hiccup said.
Astrid only smiled, and then she left.
Why is she so amused and perky, thought Hiccup grumpily. He crossed his arms and huffed petulantly. Earlier that morning, he had been working in the forge. So many ideas were flashing through his head along with plots and plans to infiltrate Viggo and his Dragon Hunters that he wasn't paying much attention to the improvements that he was adding to Dragonfly or the mess that had recently cluttered the forge. Tools laid scattered across the ground like carelessly tossed pebbles, and the entire area was begging for a clean-up. Hiccup had told himself over and over again that he would do so, but he had never got around to it, which ended up hurting himself when he tripped on one of the larger hammers that were lying on the ground and broke his leg.
Toothless had gone to Astrid for help, and the Hofferson had graciously canceled her training session with Stormfly to come and help Hiccup out. The young viking was grateful for that, but he still didn't like being trapped in bed with no one but his Night Fury to keep him company.
Toothless crooned at Hiccup, and the auburn-haired boy's green eyes glanced at his dragon. A familiar look rested in Toothless' acid green eyes, the look that Hiccup had despised since he was fifteen.
"Great," he grumbled. "Dragon pity…"
Author's Note: Ah, yes. Dragon pity. Horrible, isn't it? X)
