Chapter 9: Bereft

Bialya

Blue Jay's POV

I followed Robin from behind as we walked in the desert with the hot boiling shining on us.

Neither me or Robin remember how we got here.

We remember being on a mission with Batman and the next we know we had woken up in the desert.

For the last couple of hours, we have walking on the desert without any food or water.

I sighed heavily as sweat poured down gentle down my forehead.

"Where is the nearest patisserie or sushi restaurant when you need them?"I groaned and rubbed my forehead.

"Quit complaining, Jay."Robin responded simply. "The sooner we find Batman, the sooner we can get out of here."

"Oh sure."I agreed sarcastically. "We find Batman in the middle of the desert and the next thing for sure is-"

Suddenly Robin pulled me towards him, pinning ourselves under the shadow of the large rock as we heard something rode by.

The two of us carefully peeked from the rock to see a Humvee of Bialyan soldiers rode past us.

"Did you see their uniforms?"I asked.

"Those are Bialyan Republican Army uniforms."Robin responded and checked his wrist computer. "But what are Bialyans doing in...Bialya?"

"I have a better question."I replied. "What are we doing in Bialya?"

Robin and I looked at the date in the screen causing us to become surprised and shocked at the same time.

It was September.

"In September?"Robin said in confusion. "What happened to March?"

"Great."I retorted and face palmed. "We don't even remember the last six months of our lives either."

"Better radio Batman."Robin suggested and touched his comlink.

I nodded in agreement and touched my comlink as well before I suddenly remembered what Batman said.

"Maintain radio silence at all times."

"Or not."Robin and I said in unison.

Once the coast was clear, I sat down and took out my mini laptop as Robin headed down to look around.

I pressed a few instructions causing my laptop to show something marked on the screen.

"Something is here."I murmured.

"Check out what I found."Robin's voice spoke up.

Robin went back up and showed me a ripped black clothing which had a red Superman's S-Shield on it.

"What is it?"I asked.

"Don't know."Robin answered and looked at my laptop. "What did you find?"

"My laptop couldn't locate Batman, but it has located something somewhere in the desert."I explained and frowned when I looked at my laptop's screen. "And judging by the location, it will take us the end of the day to get there."

"Well, whatever it is. I say we go look for it."Robin suggested as I stood up. "It might be something that will help us remember how we got here."

I placed my mini laptop away before me and Robin started running in the desert.

Robin had his wrist computer out and was looking up where we were going.

But by the time we got to the location, the sun already set down and it was night time.

"Any idea why I placed a GPS marker here?"I questioned.

Robin and I see a mysterious apparatus laying in the middle of the desert before we went to hide to check if anyone was coming

"Guessing that's why."Robin commented.

The two of us exchange looks when we notice the apparatus was unguarded causing us to head towards it.

However when Robin and I approached it, a group of Bialyans soldiers emerged from the sand and pointed their guns at us

"Her Majesty wants them alive!"ABialyan Soldier shouted.

Robin simply dropped a smoke bomb before we went out of the way as the soldiers started coughing by the smoke.

I punched a close solider by the gut before kicking him on the head to knock him out.

Robin punched a goon away and I kicked down the one coming to his right.

Me and Robin smiled at each other before we notice a few more Bialyan soldiers with guns on their hands.

"Enough!"One of the soldiers shouted. "Open fire!"

Robin and I quickly dodged the firing bullets as we leapt forward to attack the soldiers.

Suddenly something zoomed around and we saw Kid Flash holding the soldiers guns.

"I'll hold that."Kid Flash remarked and placed the guns down. "Thanks."

Kid Flash started taking out the soldiers with his speed before Robin and I joined the fight as well.

I did a flip forward before I whacked four soldiers hands with my whip before Robin and Kid Flash knocked them out.

The coming soldiers that were rushing towards me and Robin were suddenly swung away from us by an unknown force.

I looked upwards and saw a Martian girl appearing in front of us.

All of us turned towards a Bialyan solider, who was quickly trying to retreat only to get some rope caught around his ankles and fell to the ground.

Me and the others turned to see where the arrow came from and saw a tanned blonde haired girl, who was dressed in clothing that was similar to Green Arrow's.

"KF."Robin exclaimed. "Man, it's good to see a familiar face."

"Hey Rob."Kid Flash greeted with a smile and winked at me. "Hey, BJ. Memory loss?"

"Just what I need."I thought sarcastically.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes as Robin responded to the speedster.

"Six months."Robin answered. "Let's hog-tie these creeps and compare notes."

Once me and Robin were done tying the Bialyan soldiers, the Martian girl known as Miss Martian began to explained to us what had happened.

"So we're a team?"I asked.

"The five of us and Superboy."Miss Martian answered.

"Then this must be his."Robin said and showed Miss Martian the broken cloth he found.

"Yes."Miss Martian responded and took the cloth. "Did you see him?"

"I think we did."Artemis responded.

"Feral boy?"Kid Flash scoffed. "Some teammate. He attacked us."

"He didn't know who we are."Artemis replied. "I don't know who we are."

I looked at Robin.

"We only remember Batman ordering radio silence."I complemented and then looked at the others. "Our team must work for him."

"How do you know we don't work for my mentor, sugar?"Kid Flash asked with a smirk and pointing at his chest causing his suit to change back to it's yellow form. "Whoa, this is so cool."

I pressed my chest but nothing happened just like Robin, Miss Martian and Artemis.

Too bad our suits can't change.

I looked up and saw that Kid Flash was still playing with his suit functions.

"We look ridiculous."Artemis commented and glared at Kid Flash. "Quit touching yourself! We need our memories back!"

Suddenly me, Robin, Artemis and Kid Flash found ourselves somewhere that had old memories and ones that I don't remember.

How did we get here?

"I've brought you into my mind to share what I've remembered so far, but I need your help."Miss Martian stated. "Together, our broken memories can form a whole...if you open your minds to mine."

"You wanna paw through our private thoughts?"Artemis questioned.

"I have no wish to intrude, but..."Miss Martian started.

"You need to hack our minds to grok what happened to us."Robin finished.

"Go ahead then."I insisted. "As long as you just go through those."

"My brain's all yours."Kid Flash flirted. "Try not to let its brilliance overwhelm you."

"Or underwhelm you."Robin replied causing me to mute my laughter. "Hey, why isn't anyone ever just whelmed?"

Kid Flash looked at Artemis and the two of them held hands with each other.

Robin held out his hand to me and I took it before I closed my eyes.

The next thing I knew was memories of the last six months flash inside my mind.

Batman deployed us to investigate a power surge in the Bialyan desert.

We landed in Qurac which was Bialya's border and found a tent guarded by soldiers.

Miss Martian pursued to investigate in camouflage mode and Aqualad instructed her to maintain a telepathic link.

My eyes opened the same time as the others.

"Aqualad!"We all said in unison.

"Where is he?"Robin asked. "What happened next?"

"I don't know."Miss Martian responded. "That's the last thing I...we remember."

Artemis and Kid Flash stopped holding hands before glancing away from each other.

"Uh, we landed 24 hours ago."Kid Flash said.

"Hold on a second."I responded causing my teammates to look at me. "If Kaldur's been wandering the desert that long..."

"That's not good for a guy with gills."Kid Flash admitted.

"Now that I know to look for him."Robin declared and activated his wrist computer. "He's close, but he's not moving."

The five of us rushed to Aqualad's location and found him laying unconscious on the floor a couple of minutes later.

Miss Martian quickly went to support him, and he began to mutter things in Atlantean.

"I can't restore his memories in this condition."Miss Martian stated.

"He needs immediate rehydration."Robin said. "Call the Bio ship."

"It's out of range."Miss Martian answered.

I thought for a moment before looking at Kid Flash.

"Looks your gonna have to get him there yourself."I commented.

"Sorry sugar, he's too heavy and I'm too low on fuel."Kid Flash stated. "Your light as your feathers. But right now, I couldn't even carry you or her."

I frowned and folded my arms as Artemis let out a scoff.

"Why not just levitate him back?"Artemis questioned.

"I can't. I have to find Superboy."Miss Martian replied. "Six months ago, he didn't exist. He has no memories, just animal impulse. I'm the only one who can help him."

"Superboy's indestructible."Kid Flash reminded. "Just ask those tanks. It's Aqualad who needs your help. Like, now."

Suddenly Miss Martian closed her eyes and covered her ears before panicking.

"No!"Miss Martian shouted. "Superboy's in pain."

Miss Martian took off in the sky, leaving us alone.

"M'gann, wait!"Artemis protested.

"We still don't know what erased our memories!"Robin called out. "It could happen again!"

"No use."I sighed and took out my mini laptop to type something. "I know a way how we can carry Aqualad. But I'm gonna need some sticks and some old pieces of cloth to make a stretcher."

"Like these?"Robin asked.

I glanced at Robin and saw him holding the items that were scattered about.

"Yes, thank you."I responded with a smile.

We started making the stretcher to carry Aqualad and started moving it once we finished preparing it.

Robin and Artemis picked up the front while Kid Flash held onto the back.

I started to lead my companions to the Bio-Ship, but became alarmed when we heard something coming.

"Quick!"I whispered. "This way!"

We hid in a pile of sand just in time as some Bialyan soldiers came driving by.

Aqualad began muttering things as Artemis tried to soothe him.

"Shh, Kaldur, quiet now."Artemis said quietly.

"We can't risk a firefight with Aqualad KO'd like this."Robin said quietly.

"Ugh. It's not just him."Kid Flash commented. "I'm way out of juice."

"And I'm almost out of arrows."Artemis added.

I exchanged looks with Robin and he nodded at me.

Looks like it was up to us.

When we came back, Kid Flash and Artemis were arguing with each other.

"Dude! Where were you two?"Kid Flash demanded. "Practicing your ninja moves?"

"Breaking radio silence."Robin answered.

"Just watch."I insisted with a smug look on my face.

I pointed behind us which was where the Bialyans were looking.

At that moment, the exploding birdarangs that me and Robin had planted on the ground, they started letting out Robin's laughs and echoed all around the Bialyans.

Then...

BOOM!

Large amount of smoke burst out and I looked back at the others.

"That's our cue!"I stated. "Move!"

We hurriedly went to pick up Aqualad and dashed off as fast as we could to avoid being spotted by the Bialyan soldiers.

Qurac

September 5, 02:32 EEST

The soon as we arrived to the Bio-Ship, the four of us placed Aqualad in a emergency bed and Robin placed a IV needle on his arm to recover him.

I sat on a seat and took out my mini laptop to type a report to Batman as Miss M's voice rang into our minds.

"Hey, everybody, I've got Superboy."Miss Martian announced. "He's back to normal, and we're on our way."

Aqualad panted and suddenly woke up hearing Miss Martian's voice.

"Who are you?"Aqualad asked in shock. "And how did you get inside my head?"

"Hello, Megan!"Miss Martian replied."Aqualad's memories! I knew I forgot something!"

"Oh, man, me too!"Kid Flash complained. "I didn't get a souvenir from the mission."

"Don't worry, got the souvenir thing covered."Miss Martian assured.

I smiled a little before I continued typing the report as Robin walked up to me.

"Are you hungry?"Robin asked.

"We hadn't eaten anything for last 24 hours, Rob."I retorted with a frown. "Of course, I am."

"Good."Robin answered and whispered in my ear. "Cause Alfred is making spaghetti alla carbonara."

"Sweet."I remarked in amusement before I finished typing the last things on the report.

Italian meals were my third favourite food after Japanese and American meals.

Either way, Alfred's cooking will always be the best in my book.
