Chapter 10: Selina Kyle

Gotham City

September 6, 22:30 EDT

Blue Jay's POV

I followed Batman closely as we chased after a familiar villainous wearing a cat suit in the middle of the night.

That's right.

We were chasing Catwoman while Robin was at home sleeping in his nest.

Catwoman surprisingly dived below into busy traffic, breaking her fall with a banner and swinging onto a tour bus.

The Cat Burglar poses for some pictures until Batman and I arrived, taking most of the publicity away from her.

I winked at a boy who was taking a photo of me with his iphone before jumping on a milk truck tanker with Batman to go after Catwoman.

The two of us landed on the milk truck tanker, only for Catwoman to blow the tires out with her sharp claws.

The truck spins off causing Batman and I to jump away and continue our chase to catch her.

We jumped on a train, which headed into a tunnel and saw Catwoman's trail leading into a zoo.

As we would expect, Catwoman detoured through the Large Cats exhibit causing me to look at Batman.

Batman and I headed into the exhibit, only for my mentor to shove me out of the way.

A vicious looking panther launched at Batman and scratched him on the chest while pinning him on the ground.

I quickly took out a sleeping gas capsule from my belt, throwing it on the panther causing the big cat to go to sleep.

Batman went up on his feet as I rushed up to him.

"Thanks."Batman responded.

"What are partners for."I remarked with a grin.

Me and Batman escaped through the sunroof while Catwoman ran into an aviary to be chased out by a colony of bats.

Catwoman was cornered by Batman against the gates of the zoo and leans to kiss him after noticing he was scratched earlier.

Batman pushed Catwoman away and she appeared hurt.

However, Batman then sweep Catwoman into his arms and kisses her causing me to blush furiously in shock.

Did I miss something?

My shock immediately vanished when the cops arrived and Catwoman began to push at Batman to leave.

Batman slowly smiled at her before he takes the bag of money and simply left causing me to join him.

"You let her off easy."I commented in disapproval.

Batman smirked. "Not exactly."

I glanced behind us to see Catwoman find herself handcuffed to the fence and look at us in quiet rage.

She was so getting Batman back for this.

Mayfields Department Store

September 7, 09:25 EDT

Emma's POV

I sat at the bench around the shopping mall as I talked with Barbara on my iphone.

"What? You gotta be kidding."I insisted. "Are you sure they're going steady?"

"Come on. Don't make a scene."Barbara commented. "Don't need to flip out over it."

"Sorry."I apologised.

"I never met someone clueless like you when it comes to noticing stuff like this, Emma."Barbara chuckled. "One look from them and it's so obvious."

"Yosuke and Bette are a couple?"I said with a hint of shock. "But they are just teens."

"So are we."Barbara responded. "Most of the girls from the Academy have already boyfriends."

"Why didn't Bette tell me about this?"I sighed.

"She probably didn't want to hurt your feelings."Barbara answered.

"What are you saying?"I demanded, raising an eyebrow.

"You know..."Barbara started and smirked. "You don't have a boyfriend yet."

I felt a blush crept up on my face as I looked to the left and pouted.

"Neither do you, Babs."I reminded. "So that makes us even."

"What gives you the idea that I am still single?"Barbara questioned with a sly smile.

"Because you would tell me instead of keeping it from me."I answered. "Also we've known each other since we were little."

"Ding, ding, we have a winner."Barbara joked.

I rolled my eyes and simply smirked before I saw a message pop up on my iphone.

"Alright Babs, I gotta go."I stated. "I'll call you later."

"Okay, Emma."Barbara replied. "Bye!"

Barbara ended our call and I checked the message of my iphone.

"Catwoman escaped jail a few hours after being caught by Batman and Blue Jay?"I read and face palmed with my free hand. "Great."

That will have to wait since my dad has arranged something more important for me and Dick to attend this evening.

Wayne Manor

September 7, 19:30 EDT

I let out a groan as I styled my hair in a side braid.

It turned out that Bruce had arranged a Wayne Industry Charity Ball in Wayne Manor, so that meant me and Dick had to wear formal clothes and act polite.

I placed on a purple dress with a dark purple border around my shoulders and purple heels on my feet. For the finishing touch, I placed the silver necklace with the nightingale pendant that Dick got me on my birthday around my neck.

I gave a faint smile as I looked at myself in the mirror.

Sometimes when I look at my reflection I see that I am a girl with a normal civilian life.

But when I put on my Blue Jay mask...it's another story.

A knock on the door caused me to quickly snap out of my thoughts.

"Come in."I insisted simply.

I turned around and saw Dick wore a deep midnight blue tuxedo and his hair was styled nicely causing my cheeks to become pink a little bit.

My gosh.

He looked so handsome.

"Hey, Emma."Dick said with a shy smile. "You look...pretty."

"Thanks."I thanked. "And you look good."

"Shall we?"Dick asked.

Dick reached out his hand and I took it causing him to lead me out of my room.

The two of us arrived to the ballroom of the manor, where the grand party was taking place.

Bruce was busy talking with some important people while Alfred was ordering a few hired waiters around.

Me and Dick headed to the buffet table to stuff our bored bellies.

There were fancy drinks, cranberry sauce, a chocolate fountain, fruit shaped like little animals and munchie snacks in the table.

I picked up a cherry bun and slowly started eating it.

"You usually eat desserts more quickly and messy."Dick teased with a smirk.

"Says the guy who ate half of my homemade macaroons last summer."I joked smugly.

"I couldn't help it."Dick answered in defence. "They were too good to resist. You should open your own bakery, Emi."

"No, thank you."I sneered. "Got already a double life to deal with."

"I'm joking, Emma."Dick chuckled and started a glass cup of fizzy water. "How was yesterday's cat chase go?"

"It went a bit wild and...later bittersweet."I replied and frowned at Dick. "Would've been nice if you joined us."

"Sorry."Dick apologised with a shrug. "Guess l was too tired."

"And by too tired, you mean playing video games past your bed time."I teased.

"Tell Bruce and I'll end up pouncing on you."Dick warned with a playful expression.

"Naughty, Boy Wonder."I snickered quietly.

I simply shook my head before my focus went away from Dick when I notice a woman with short black hair and olive green eyes talking to Dad.

The lady wore a sleeveless dark velvet gown and wore a ring that appeared to have a Cat's Eye Emerald on it.

I heard about this gemstone.

It says the flow of bad luck will be broken and peaceful everyday life will be restored.

It is effective even when you want to calm the disturbed feelings.

But to be honest, I only believe that jewellery are some things that girls wear to make themselves look more lovely.

"Hey Dick, who is that woman?"I asked. "I've never seen her before."

"That's Ms Selina Kyle."Dick answered. "There's this rumour going around that she's supposed to be sponsoring a mountain lion preserve outside Gotham."

"Really?"I said with a hint of curiosity. "Let's go say hi."

"Hang on, Emi."Dick instructed and picked up a small napkin to wipe away a bit of cherry jam that was on my left cheek. "Always important to make a first good impression to someone your meeting."

I frowned. "Right."

Me and Dick slowly walked up to Bruce.

"Hi, Bruce."Dick and I said in unison.

"Selina. This is Emma Miyazaki and Dick Grayson."Bruce introduced. "Emma and Dick. This is Selina Kyle."

"Hey."Dick greeted.

"Hi."I said with a smile.

Selina smiled. "Pleasure."

Me and Dick each took a turn on shaking Selina's hand, but I got to admit her grip is...quite strong.

"A firm handshake is a must in my line of work."Selina said.

"Which is?"Bruce asked.

"Fundraising for charities."Selina responded.

"You find wealthy philanthropists, such as myself and spend our money."Bruce complemented.

"Only on good causes."Selina answered.

"Define good."Bruce replied with a smirk.

Dick and I glanced at each other before we slowly walk away to leave Bruce alone with Selina.

"They seem to have a lot in common."Dick complemented.

"Yeah, I like her already."I agreed with a nod. "Better her than Talia al Ghul."

Emma meets Selina and begins to like her, but has no idea that Selina is actually Catwoman (Giggles mischievously)
