Chapter 13: Revelation

Mount Justice

October 1, 18:13 EDT

Blue Jay's POV

I leaned against the wall as I watched Robin and Aqualad doing a sparring session.

It's been a week after the Team's almost disastrous mission to India, but I'm glad that things have gone back to the way they used to be.

When Robin and Aqualad finished their sparring session, I walked up to them as Conner, M'gann and Wolf entered the cave from one of the adjacent hallways.

"You know they're a couple, right?"Dick asked from the corner of his mouth, using his hand to shield half of his face.

"I believe I knew before they did."Kaldur answered simply.

"I'm pretty sure everyone knew before they did."I complemented. "You know, except for Wally and Artemis."

"But, do we tell them?"Dick questioned.

"It is not our place."Kaldur responded.

Just then Wally and Artemis showed up while walking together.

"So, if Zatara's our babysitter of the week."Wally started before turning to point at Captain Marvel. "Why is he still here? And why is he eating my snacks?"

"Recognized: Batman: 0-2."the computer announced.

"Computer, national news."Batman ordered as the Zeta-Beam light stopped glowing.

"The initial attack was short-lived..."the blonde woman reporter said as the holo-screen changed to show a video of what looked to be giant plants attacking Metropolis. "But Metropolis was only granted a short reprieve. And despite the intervention of Superman and the Justice League, there seems to be no end in sight."

"Should we get out there?"Dick asked.

"No."Batman answered in a firm tone. "The League will soon have the situation under control, that's not why I'm here. According to your intel. Sportsmaster supplied Cadmus' Blockbuster formula to Kobra..."

"Who combined it with Bane's Venom to create Kobra Venom."I declared.

"Which the Brain used to create his animal army."Dick finished.

"And upgrade Wolf."Conner added as he stroked Wolf's chin.

"Like the ones at Belle Reve Penitentiary."M'gann commented.

"Batman."Artemis said, her voice sounding worried. "Is it possible that plant thingy's on Kobra Venom too?"

"I had Green Lantern run a spot analysis."Batman responded and brought up a holo-image that showcased spiky balls, which Reese could only assume were Kobra Venom molecules. "The vine's cellulose does contain trace amounts of a Kobra Venom varian."

"These cannot be coincidences."Kaldur said firmly. "Unrelated criminals cooperating with one another worldwide..."

I watched Dick as he began typing on a small holographic screen.

"Exactly."Batman responded. "It's now clear our enemies have formed some kind of...Secret Society of Supervillains. The attack on Metropolis is only the beginning."

"Got that right."Dick complemented and glanced up from the holo-keyboard as four more screens appeared. "Plant creatures have sprouted in Gotham City, Paris, Star City, Taipei-"

Before Dick could continue, all of the holo-screens turned to static and involuntarily causing my eyes to widen.

Dick's fingers had begun to fly across the keyboard again, trying to get the newsfeeds back up, but it didn't look like it was working.

"Dude..."Wally muttered.

Dick only grunted in frustration.

"It's not me!"Dick protested. "Someone's cutting into the satellite signal. All satellite signals!"

Suddenly, the static was gone, but instead of the newsfeeds returning to the screens, it showed something else. Someone else.

I gulped in fright as I recognized the villain wearing a purple suit, paper white skin, dark green hair and a wide red lipped menacing smile on his face.

Joker.

"Ladies and Gentlemen."Joker declared. "We interrupt your regularly scheduled mayhem to bring you this important announcement."

Joker took out a switchblade and spun it around for a moment before he continued while turning the camera to the side.

"From the Injustice League."Joker announced.

The camera zoomed in to Count Vertigo, who began to speak.

"We are responsible for the attacks on your cities."Count Vertigo admitted. "If you wish to save them, a ransom of ten billion American dollars is required. Delivery instructions have been sent to the United Nations. There is no time limit. But, the longer your governments wait…"

Joker moved the camera back to him.

"The more we get to have our…jollies."Joker admitted with a sinister smile.

Joker began to laugh before the screen returned to static again.

I shivered uncomfortably as Dick began to tap back into the signals to retrieve the video.

"Count Vertigo, the Joker, Poison Ivy, Ultra Humanite, Atomic Skull, Black Atom, Wotan, seven heavy hitters!"Dick exclaimed. "Probably behind nearly everything and everyone we faced."

"There's your secret society."Wally commented.

"Not so secret anymore."Artemis added.

"Perhaps after India and Bwunda."Kaldur suggested. "They realized we would deduce the truth and saw no point in hiding any longer."

"Yeah!"Wally exclaimed and excitedly pumped a fist in the air. "That was their mistake. Right now, I say we go kick some plant creature butt!"

"The Justice League will handle the plants."Batman stated. "I have a different job for this team."

I frowned a bit as Wally groaned in disappointment before wincing in pain as Artemis promptly slugged him in the arm.

"With the plants attacking so many locations simultaneously."Batman continued. "There must be a central control system. Your mission is to destroy it."

"You realize what you're really asking them to do?"Zatara asked.

"They're ready."Batman declared.

I smiled at my dad while Wally appeared to be confused.

"Ready?"Wally repeated. "Ready for what?"

Artemis slugged him again and Wally rubbed the spot where the blonde had hit him.

"Ow! Will you cut that-"Wally started.

"Hello, Wally!"Artemis interrupted. "If the big guns are fighting plants, who do you think we'll be fighting?"

"I don't know!"Wally retorted. "I guess we'll-"

I simply jabbed my finger towards the holo-screens, where the paused video showcasing the members of the Injustice League was still visible.

"Oh..."Wally said in realisation.

"Yeah, oh."I repeated with a frown.

Zatara turned back towards Batman.

"Well Batman, I trust you're correct."Zatara said.

"I trust you can locate the enemy?"Batman asked.

"Indeed."Zatara answered. "Wotan's involvement suggests sorcery is part of how the plants are controlled. Robin, if you could provide a holo-map."

Robin made a massive blue globe appear between us, Batman and Zatara.

"I'll search for signs of concentrated sorcerous activity."Zatara explained and raised his hands. "Etacol retnecipe fo yrecros!"

A small red arrow appeared on the globe that hovered on the southern United States' coast, just above the Gulf of Mexico.

"There."Zatara stated. "That is where you will find the Injustice League's central control system."

"Coordinates locked in."Dick replied. "The Louisiana Bayou."

"We are on our way."Kaldur added.

The seven of us headed out of the room to put on our hero suits on as Wolf followed us.

Bayou Bartholomew

October 1, 18:52 CDT

The seven of us were in the Bioship, flying over a Louisiana swamp and making the last preparations to any equipment we might use in the fire fight.

I checked that I had everything on my belt as Kid Flash ate a banana and looked at the duffel next to Aqualad's feet.

"What's in the duffel?"Kid Flash asked.

"Plan B."Aqualad answered.

Miss Martian let out a groan and touched her forehead.

"Are you alright?"Superboy asked.

"Martians get airsick?"Robin asked.

"She does look a bit greener than usual."Kid Flash commented.

Miss Martian shook her head.

"Not me."Miss Martian said. "Her."

"I'm fine."Artemis assured.

"Same with me."I added.

"I don't mean you guys."Miss Martian replied. "I mean the Bio-Ship. She's trying to shield us, but-"

Whatever Miss M was about to say was cut off as the Bio-Ship spun around in the air before all of us inside felt a sharp jolt.

Miss Martian lost control of it, sending us all tumbling through the air like a baseball someone had thrown with the strength of Superman.

We were jerked to a stop as the Bio-Ship landed in the water.

In about thirty seconds ago, giant thorny vines exploded out of the water, wrapped around the Bio-Ship and held it in place.

Above Miss Martian's head, I saw a jagged hole appearing in the top of the Martian aircraft along with the rugged face of Black Adam as he tore into it.

"Ngh."Miss Martian groaned as her hands clamped around her head. "He's hurting her."

Superboy immediately leaped up from his seat, landing a solid punch to Black Adam's face and knocking the villain away.

Suddenly the Bio-Ship began to sink because of the hole that Black Adam had torn into the top and water began to surround us.

"No."Artemis argued. "No way am I drowning almost three missions in a row."

Robin and I placed on our small rebreathers in our mouths before diving into the water.

We watched as Miss Martian with gills, swam down to the floor of the Bio-Ship, where she then opened a much cleaner edged hole that would take us out.

"Out."Aqualad ordered in the psychic link. "Everyone out."

The seven of us, plus Wolf, swam around the edge of the riverbank in order to dodge the vines.

We all came out of the water and hid through the cypress trees to see the Bio-Ship being pulled beneath the surface of the water by Poison Ivy's vines.

"She's in shock."Miss Martian said quietly. "She'll need time to recover."

Before any of us were really able to recover from our impromptu dip in the bayou, we were all thrown to the ground.

I looked up to see Count Vertigo standing in front of us, just as Kid Flash came up onto his hands and knees.

"Vertigo."Kid Flash said.

"Count Vertigo to you, peasant."Count Vertigo retorted.

Superboy leaped up again but was thrown through the trees by a punch from Black Adam.

Seeing Count Vertigo's distraction, Aqualad used his water-bearers to bring some of the water up from the bayou's river and using it to wash Vertigo away.

"Robin, Blue Jay, Miss Martian."Aqualad responded in the link. "Disappear. We will keep them busy. You three, fulfil the mission objective."

As Aqualad was punched away by Black Adam, me and Robin both took that as our cue to split, to slip through the tree towards where the Injustice League's headquarters was bound to be.

Though we couldn't see her, I assumed Miss Martian was following from behind.

After a couple of minutes of running, Robin and I began walking through the bayou together.

I notice the sky above us continued to get darker as we headed to the Injustice League's headquarters.

Robin had his map out through his holographic computer as I had my whip in my grip in case something might pop out and attack us.

'I've lost contact with Aqualad and the others."Miss Martian stated. "Should we-"

'Sorry, that's not the gig."Robin interrupted before pulling back a few branches. "This is the Injustice League's central control system."

"It looks like that plant is acting as an antenna to control the other plants worldwide."I complemented.

As we stared at the massive building that almost looked like an evil version of the Hall of Justice, vines erupted out of the ground that wrapped around the three of us up in the span of two seconds and holding us up higher in the air.

"Well, hello."Poison Ivy greeted evilly.

A vine wrapped around my mouth like a gag to stop me from screaming as my eyes widened to see Ultra-Humanite jump down to join Ivy on the ground with a menacing looking gun in his hand.

"And goodbye..."Poison Ivy declared.

Miss Martian's eyes glowed green and the trajectory was abruptly changed.

As Ultra-Humanite pulled the trigger, the blast was sent through the vines holding me and my friends and we were dropped to the ground.

As soon as we were free, Robin and I started running away from Poison Ivy.

"Sorry, Boy Wonder and Girl Wonder."Poison Ivy responded and vines began to raise out of the water again. "I'm putting an end to your little reconnaissance mission."

Tree roots and vines started to join up to try and impale me and Robin causing the two of us to go so far as to slide across one of them in order to getaway.

After vaulting off a pair of trees after a root destroyed the branch I had been swinging on, I landed in the muddy bayou river water again, only to be tackled to the side by Robin a split-second before I would've gotten impaled against another tree trunk.

"Aren't you supposed to be the one who said I am hyper-aware of my surroundings at all times?"Robin questioned.

Both of us slid across another tree root in time to dodge another flying vine.

"Well, sorry!"I admitted in a irritated tone. "I was trying not to die!"

We jumped to another root as the one we had previously been on was destroyed, turning into splinters.

Since Aqualad and the others were nowhere to be found, it looked like they were getting closer and closer to needing Plan B.

I suddenly felt the root that me and Robin were standing on explode and we were both thrown through the air, landing heavily on the ground.

I brought my head up, only to find icky brown mud soaking the entire front of my superhero suit.

"Great."I scowled in disgust.

I notice Robin cough from beside me since he had accidentally swallowed some river water.

Ew.

Just as a cluster of razor-sharp vines appeared and got ready to crush us, they exploded and Miss Martian appeared in front of us.

'Robin, Blue Jay."Miss Martian said. "She's made contact."

"Artemis?"Robin asked.

"No."Miss Martian answered.

I looked up in time to see a golden cage fly in the sky.

Above the clearing where me, Robin and Miss M were, the cage holding the rest of the Team and being carried by Wotan, Black Adam and Count Vertigo.

The Bio-Ship suddenly flew down from higher in the sky, hitting Wotan in the back and pausing the sorcerer long enough that the cage disappeared completely, dropping everyone to the ground.

As the others took on the Injustice League, Robin, me and Miss Martian headed towards the massive beanstalk-like plant on top of the Injustice League's headquarters.

Me and Robin pulled out exploding birdarangs and we stuck them to the plant everywhere we could.

I activated the birdarangs and the explosion echoed in the surrounding area.

The plant fell all around the three of us as I smirked at our successful job.

"Timber."Robin commented.

Poison Ivy yelled out in rage and made more thorny vines burst out, but Miss Martian used her telekinesis to destroy the plants before they reached her, Robin and me.

Miss Martian was suddenly knocked away by a energy blast that made me and Robin duck before we were hit too.

It looked like Joker and Atomic Skull finally decided to join the party.

"Children?"Joker retorted with a glare. "Children foiled our plan? Inconceivable. Unacceptable. Retribution-able! That last one might not be a word. So sue me!"

"Kill them!"Count Vertigo ordered. "Kill them all."

Robin and I quickly moved away from Miss Martian to avoid being hit by another attack from Atomic Skull.

Robin threw some of his batarangs and I threw my birdarangs towards Wotan.

"Enough!"Wotan shouted out.

The smoke around Wotan dissipated to reveal an orange shield-like bubble encasing him.

Then Wotan held out his hands and seven separate bolts of lightning hit all of us one by one while Wolf was knocked from Ultra-Humanite.

Suddenly the lightening bolts stopped hitting us when Aqualad placed on the Helmet of Fate to keep Wotan busy.

I stood up to help Robin back on his feet before we became alarmed when Joker approached us.

"Wonder Boy and Wonder Girl!"Joker cackled and took out his two switchblades. "Allow me to put smiles on your faces!"

Me and Robin began jumping out of the way as Joker started swiping his two switchblades to slash us into pieces.

"I always wanted to carve these birds."Joker admitted with a creepy smile.

As Robin and I leaped away from more strikes by Joker's switchblades, a batarang suddenly flew through the air and knocked one of the clown's switchblade away.

I sighed in relief as the members of the Justice League arrived and landed on the ground, surrounding the Injustice League.

"It's over."Batman declared.

Count Vertigo, Poison Ivy, Ultra-Humanite, Atomic Skull, Wotan and Black Adam all raised their hands up in surrender.

"There will be another day."Count Vertigo stated.

"Another day? Another day?!"Joker complained with an annoyed look. "There won't be another day! Not for any of us! Ha! Ha! Ha!"

Joker cackled maniacally again, before waving his gloved hands in the air.

As he did so, multiple vines erupted from the water, the buds on them popping open, releasing noxious green coloured gas.

"Joker-Venom spores!"Batman shouted. "Don't breathe!"

I covered my mouth as Batman knocked out the Joker with one punch, but he wasn't able to stop the spores from beginning to spread.

But before the Joker Venom was able to infect any of us or the villains and kill them with laughter, Aqualad still costumed as Dr Fate rose up above them all.

"Fear not!"Dr Fate announced loudly. "Fate has intervened!"

Dr Fate mad a glowing gold ankh to appear in the air and the symbol effectively vacuuming up the cloud of spores.

Afterwards the members of the Justice League arrested the members of the Injustice League and carried them away.

"Jay, you dropped this."Robin admitted.

I notice Robin holding my whip causing me to smile at him as I took back my weapon.

"Thanks, Bird Boy."I thanked with a small smirk.

Doctor Fate landed in front of us causing Kid Flash to get angry with him.

"What were you thinking?"Kid Flash complained. "How could you let him put on the helmet? Nabu will never release him now. Kaldur will be trapped inside Doctor Fate forever."

Doctor Fate looked at Kid Flash quietly before removing the helmet and he returned back to Aqualad.

"Nabu let you go?"Kid Flash asked.

"He almost did not."Aqualad responded with a smile. "But your friend Kent was most helpful. He says, Hello."

I smiled at my old friends as my attention moved to Batman.

"We're done here."Batman declared and looked at us. "The supervillains' secret society has been neutralised. As for your performance...it was satisfactory."

Me, Robin and the rest of the Team glanced at each other.

It looks like we were gonna need to do much better next time, if we want to impress Batman and the rest of the Justice League.
