Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden Chapter 5
The Lost Boys are Lost
Rory and Steph both tried calling Logan and Colin. After a while, they tried Finn. Still, no one was answering their phone. After orientation, they went to the building they knew the boy's dorm was in. They were not sure which dorm room belonged to them, but maybe someone could tell them.
They finally found an RA that told them their dorm is on the 4th floor, but they have not checked in yet. Rory and Steph found that curious. They were under the impression that they moved in before Rory and Steph. They decided to go to the 4th floor and look around. Maybe the RA was mistaken.
They found their room. It had all the furniture in it, but no Logan, no Finn, no Colin. The girls wrote a message on the fridge and left the room. Rory talked Steph into staying for the movie with Marty. Steph was worried about Rory inviting someone over that they didn't know, so she agreed.
The three of them enjoyed the movie. Rory and Marty saw each other several times a day for the rest of the week. The girls tried several times to get in touch with the boys, but to no avail. Some of the other girls told them that Robert, Seth, and James were also missing. Seth and James were seniors, Robert was a sophomore like Logan, Colin, and Finn. By the weekend, they decided to go back to Hartford. Maybe Honor would be home and she could give them some insight as to where the boys disappeared to.
Before they left campus Friday, Rory hurried to the coffee Kiosk for her and Steph a cup of coffee for the road. When she returned to their dorm, there was a big brown envelope lying at the foot of the door. She picked up the envelope. It had Rory and Steph written in calligraphy across the front. She went to open the door to the dorm to tell Steph about the envelope when Marty appeared. They stood and talked for a few minutes. She told him she was going to Hartford for the weekend. She needed to find out what was going on with her friends. Marty wished them a safe trip. They made plans to meet up Sunday afternoon when the girls got back. They were going to have a movie night and catch up on the weekend.
Life and Death Brigade-Yale's Secret Society
Rory entered the dorm, showing Steph the envelope. She was as curious as Rory. They opened it to find two blindfolds and a note.
The two of you, Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden and Stephanie Diana Vanderbilt have been chosen to join a secret society that dates back to the early 1800s. Your family names entitle you as a legacy to join. Be in front of your dorm, with the blindfold on at 4:00 today if you would like to have a great weekend. Adventure is upon you. This will be your only invitation. See you at 4:00
The two of them read over the letter several times. They both agreed to meet out front with blindfolds on at 4:00. Rory had a feeling Logan and Collin were involved. Steph agreed. Rory called her grandpa and asked a few questions. He answered her question but the answers were vague. Before she hung up her grandpa told her to have a great weekend, adventure was upon her. She smiled and thanked him.
"Steph, my grandpa didn't really answer my questions, but he did tell me to have a great weekend, adventure was upon me," she told her. Steph and Rory were bouncing with excitement. Should they pack a bag? What should they bring? Would Logan, Finn, and Colin be there? These were just a few of the questions they were throwing at each other. Steph finally told Rory to take her purse/backpack with a change of clothes and her toothbrush. They both agreed.
When Rory and Steph got outside their dorm a little before 4:00 they were shocked to see so many freshmen standing around. When the school clock chimed 4 times, Rory and Steph put on the blindfold, as did several others. It wasn't long before someone took Rory's hand. She recognized the familiar smell. It was Logan. She relaxed. Steph also recognized Colin. Both girls were led into the SUV. Rory was put in the back seat. she felt herself being buckled in then the door shut. She felt Logan settle in beside her. Steph must be in the passenger seat. Colin had to be driving. She wondered where Finn was. Oh, how this is going to be a great weekend.
Rory and Steph tried to talk with Logan and Colin while on the way, but neither would answer. So Rory and Steph started talking about Marty, but they called him 'naked' boy.
"So, Rory, do you think we will be back in time for our movie night with 'naked' boy?" Steph asked.
"Oh, I am sure. If not, he will wait. Don't you think?" Rory asked.
"I am sure he will. I think he may like you." Steph told her.
"Really, you think so?" Rory asked.
"Sureā¦.." Steph said, but before she could finish the sentence Logan spoke up.
"What 'naked' boy? Who have you been having movie nights with?" Logan almost shouted.
"Logan!" Colin yelled. "Now they know who we are."
"Bloody Hell," Finn said, sitting up from the third seat. "They are not stupid. They are very intelligent girls. They had the two of you figured out before they even got in the SUV." He then laid back down and pulled a blanket over his head. Both girls started giggling. It wasn't long before Colin and Logan joined in.
The girls asked to remove the blindfolds but were told that the location was a secret and until they were initiated in, they could not know the ins and outs of the club. They both asked a lot of questions. Some were answered, some were not.
The legality of the club was questioned, by Rory of course. She was told that it was legal, although it is a secret for new members, they have the owner's permission. Rory also asked how this club was funded. Did they have to pay dues? Logan explained that the senior class had all the details, but this club was well funded by former members. They were also told that many famous people were members or former members of this club. Colin told Rory that she would be given a chance to ask questions. Rory wondered if Logan and Colin knew her grandpa was a member. He had encouraged her to attend.
When they arrived, the blindfolds were removed. Rory and Steph found themselves standing at the beginning of a clearing in the woods along with several other freshmen. There was a big bonfire along with tables of food. Tents were set up on the premier of the clearing. Some were roasting marshmallows, some talking and drinking in small groups. Rory and Steph took in their surroundings.
"Is this where you have been this week?" Rory asked Logan. He nodded. He grabbed her hand and led her to the clearing. He introduced her to the people she didn't know. He told her not to ask questions, everything would be explained to them later.
After some introductions, Rory mingled. She encountered a group that was speaking without the letter E. Another group was discussing their summers and yet another group was talking about which boys were available and how much money they were worth. Rory didn't like that group. She didn't stay long.
In passing, she hears several girls talking about the lost boys, a line, and they do not date freshmen. Rory was laughing. Those girls were hopeless. She had a pretty good idea that the lost boys were Logan, Finn, and Colin.
She watched as Logan danced with several girls. She shook her head. He was too busy filtering and dancing to notice her. While she was in deep thought, Robert approached her.
"Well, what do you think?" He asked. Rory turned to him.
"What do I think about what?" She asked.
"This whole secret society thing. You are a reporter? It has to be killing you to know that you can not write about this." Robert told her. She smiled at him.
"No, I'm okay about that." She told him. In reality, she was developing a plan. She would need to discuss it with Logan, but she was not going to tell Robert about it. He asked her to dance. She looked out over the dance floor. Steph was dancing. So were some of the other girls. She nodded and allowed him to talk her hand and lead her to the dance floor. They danced for a while before a slow song came on. She excused herself.
Rory was sitting on a stump outside the clearing. She was thinking about all that has happened in the last few days. She wanted to talk to Logan, but she was debating on waiting until they got back. The last thing she wanted was to get in an argument with him while they were trapped in the wilderness. She laughed at that though. She knew where they were. This property belongs to her grandma. She has visited this piece of property several times in her life. She recognized the pond off to the left of the clearing.
"Well, have we already tired you out?" Logan asked as he approached her. She looked around to where he was walking up the path.
"No, just thinking. This is a lot to take in. I am to assume you joined last year?" Rory asked.
"Yes," Logan said. He paused, he was not sure how much more to tell her. "I have known about the secret society for several years. I was told about being a legacy when I was younger."
"Why have you not told us about it?" she asked. She wasn't mad, she just wondered why he would keep this a secret.
"I don't know. I guess I wanted to wait to make sure you were going to become a member." He told her. She nodded her head.
