Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden Chapter 7
Tristan Returns
"Whoa there Hayden. You have gotten feisty since you started college." Tristan said.
"Tristan! Where did you come from?" She asked, hugging him back.
"Well, you see, when a man and woman need an heir they….." He was laughing. She hit him.
"I know that. When did you get to Yale? Last I heard you were going to Princeton." She told him.
"I changed my mind. I wanted to go to college with my friends." He told them. They were laughing and walking toward the table. When Rory realized where they were going she tried to stop. She was not sure if Tristan would be allowed to sit with them. This was Life and Death Brigaders only.
"Uh, Tristan. I…I'm not sure if you can sit with us." She told him. He stopped and looked at her. If she had not been so worried about hurting him she would have seen the twinkle in his eye. He was a Brigader too.
"What? You don't want me sitting with you. Are you ashamed of me? Well, I guess I have been gone too long. I never thought you would treat me like this." Tristan said. He was in a full-blown rant when Colin walked up.
"Hey man, Glad you found us. Missed you this weekend, but all is good. Seth and Martin said they met with you last weekend to get you initiated." Colin said. Rory looked at him then Tristan.
"I see the wheels turning," Tristan told her. "Yes, I too and a legacy. I couldn't make it this weekend. Got some strings pulled and was able to take care of everything beforehand." He told her.
By this time they had made it to the 3 reserved booths in the back of the pub. She took a seat then remembered she lost Logan. Her eyes were scanning the room looking for him. She finally found him. He was talking with a red-headed guy. They were surrounded by girls of all shapes and sizes.
Tristan saw her looking. He leaned over and whispered in her ear.
"Please tell me the two of you have finally got your shit together," Tristain nodded toward Logan.
"What are you talking about?" She asked him. He shook his head. Before he could say anything else, Steph grabbed her and pulled her to the dance floor. This is where Logan found her when he had a seat at the booth.
"Man," Tristan said. "She is at Yale now. If you don't get your shit together, you are going to have to watch her with other guys. You know she will not go without company. She is too pretty, intelligent and she has money. You don't want someone to swoop in and take her away. Especially if it is not for the right reasons." Tristan told him.
"I agree," Finn said as he sat down next to Logan.
"Finn, you don't even know what we are talking about," Logan told him. Finn just raised his eyebrow and looked toward Rory.
"Right, I have no idea," Finn said. He then turned and started talking to Beverly, she was sitting next to him.
Rory and Steph danced, drank, and had a good time. When it was time to go, Logan and Colin walked them home. Paris was waiting for them. Paris was aware of the Life and Death Brigade. Her feelings were not hurt that she was not invited to join. Her parents were having all kinds of legal problems. She wanted to focus on school.
"Is this what I can expect from the two of you now?" Paris asked Rory and Steph. They both had a few too many. They were feeling good.
"Yes, but I see no reason to wait for us," Steph told her. Paris got up and went to her room, slamming the door. You could hear her talking after the door shut.
"Does she have someone in there?" Logan asked. Steph and Rory just shrugged.
Logan walked Rory to her room, as did Colin to Steph's.
Time for Real Classes
Rory and Steph woke to Paris slamming doors. Steph was first to the common room. She went to the kitchenette and started a pot of coffee. Before the coffee could start, the front door swung open, and in walked Logan and Colin. They both have two cups of coffee. Finn followed them in with a bag of taco.
By this time, Rory had emerged from her room. She went straight to Logan and took a cup of coffee. She drank it all down in one gulp. She then handed him the empty and took the other.
"Hey, guys. Do I smell tacos?" Rory asked. Finn handed her the bag and she sat down at the bar. After they finished, the boys left and Rory and Steph got ready for class. Rory was to report to the Yale Daily News today. She was excited.
Rory and Steph had a business class together. After that, Rory was meeting Logan at the coffee kiosk outside of the newsroom. He walked her in. Logan was on the paper last year, although he didn't show up a lot, he did have a few articles posted last year.
When they got to the newsroom Paris was there. Logan's phone rang and he stepped back out the door. Rory walked to where Paris was standing.
"Have you met the editor yet?" Rory asked. Paris shook her head and nodded toward a short dude with dark hair. He looked like he was in charge.
"That's Doyle McMasters," Paris told her. "I did some research. He seems to be an adequate writer, but I don't know much about his editing skills." Rory nodded. Her phone vibrated in her pocket. When she pulled her phone out of her pocket, she had a message from Logan.
'Ace, got to handle something, will catch you later. Maybe pub?' she went to reply.
"Excuse me," Doyle said. He was standing in front of Rory. She looked up. "Unless that is a source, you can not be on your phone right now. I haven't given you an assignment yet, so I doubt that is a source. Put the phone away." She slipped her phone back in her pocket as he turned to go back to the front of the room.
Rory, Paris, and several other freshmen listened while Doyle told them what was expected of them. Rory was taking notes. After he finished his speech, he told them to have a seat and he would give out test assignments.
Rory sat down with Paris and waited. While Doyle was talking with another freshman about his assignment Logan walked back in. Before he could go to Rory, Doyle spotted him.
"Logan," Doyle said standing up. "It is so nice to see you," Logan just stared at him. "I have already made assignments. I'm afraid I don't have anything for you."
"That's fine. I am just here for the pretty picture my dad has in his head." Logan told him and took a seat at a desk close to where Rory and Paris were sitting. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and began to scroll through it.
"Logan," Rory whispered. "Put your phone away before he gets mad." Logan looked at her and then back toward Doyle. He had a smile on his face. Rory had seen that smile before. Trouble was on the way. Logan started texting someone. It wasn't long before his phone rang.
"I thought I told you no phones," Doyle said as he whirled around. He stopped in his spot when he saw Logan was the one on the phone.
"Yeah, sure….Dad. But I have to go now. Doyle McMasters is staring at me and yelling something about a phone…yes Doyle McMasters, Yale Daily News editor…." Logan hung up the phone as he watched the blood drain from Doyle's face.
"I'm off the phone now," Logan told him.
