Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden Chapter 8

When the meeting was over, Rory started out the door. She thought Logan was behind her, but Doyle stopped him. Rory waited on him outside of the news office. He was laughing when he came out the door.

"Was that Mitchum on the phone?" Rory asked. Logan shook his head. He couldn't stop laughing long enough to talk.

"No, but did," Logan said in between laughing. "See his face. Doyle is nothing but a suck-up. He is scared to death of Mitchum. He is afraid I will tell Mitchum he is not doing a good job." Logan had to stop and sit down. He needed to catch his breath.

Rory and Logan talked for a few minutes before he had to hurry to class. Rory wanted to start her research for her story. She was to write an article about the ballet previewing this Friday night on campus. She wanted to do research on the performer before she attended the ballet. She would have to call her grandma to explain she would not be home for Friday Night dinner.

Friday night dinners are now just once a month. The grandparents take turns hosting. Sometimes both parents and their significant other would show up. Sometimes just one would show up. Her mother had started bringing Luke around more. Rory thinks her mother's relationship with Luke is moving toward marriage.

Her dad, Sherry, and Gigi show up more when Papa and Gran-Mère are hosting, Her mom has no pattern, which as she matured, Rory realized made her unique.

This week Papa and Gran-Mère will be the hosts. It was just Monday, if she called now, maybe they could change it to next week. She made a mental note to call her when she got back to her dorm. But for now, she was headed to the library.

When Rory returned to the dorm, it was quiet. Paris nor Steph was home. She signed. She went to her room and laid her bookbag down. She checked the time. She was going to take a quick nap before she had to get ready to meet Logan at the pub.

She awoke to someone tapping on her window. She sat up in bed only to see Logan standing outside her window. She opened the window and he came in, not so gracefully.

"People were staring. I was afraid they would call security." Logan said.

"Why didn't you use the front door?" Rory asked. She was still half asleep.

"I knocked for 15 minutes. I called Steph. She said that she was in Harford for the night and she didn't know where you were." Logan told her. Rory groaned as she looked at her watch. She didn't realize how late it had gotten.

"I'm sorry. I laid down for a few minutes when I came in from the library. I didn't mean to fall asleep." Rory told him.

"It's okay, we don't have to go to the pub. We can order pizza and watch a movie. It appears we have the dorm to ourselves." Logan said, looking around. She nodded.

"I need a shower," Rory said. "You order pizza and I will take a quick shower." She grabbed her towel and headed toward her bathroom. She stopped before she got to the door. "Remind me to call Gran-Mère after we eat. I need to reschedule this month's Friday night dinner. If I call now, I will interrupt their supper." She shut the door.

Logan went to the kitchenette and pulled out the take-out menus. He was looking over the menus but was lost in thought. Maybe tonight will be the night I tell her how I feel. I want her to enjoy college life. I did, but I can not stand the thought of her dating anyone else. I will have to play it smoothly. She had known me for a long time. She can read me like a book.

Meanwhile in the shower, Rory was standing under the hot water, relaxing as it poured over her head and down her body. I need to tell him how I feel. If he does not feel the same way, I need to know. I can't keep turning down dates waiting on him to make a move. She wished she had someone to talk to. Steph would blab to Logan or Colin. Honor would surely tell Logan. She was still deep in thought when she heard a knock on the door.

"Pizza from Jimmy Poo's will be here in 30 minutes." Logan said, "And Paris is home." He said the last part in a whisper, but Rory heard him.

"I'll be out in a minute." She told him. "If you don't want to wait in the common room with her, go get us some coffee from the Kiosk. When you get back I will be out of the shower and dressed." She didn't hear his answer but she heard her bedroom door slam and then the main door.

When Rory got out of the shower and dressed, she called her Gran-Mère. She explained that she had a school assignment Friday night. Gran-Mère told her not to worry about it. She would reschedule and if that did not work for everyone, it would be their loss.

"Rory, before you hang up, I was wondering if you had time this week to have lunch with me. I will come to you if you like." Gran-Mère said.

"Sure Gran-Mère, when will be best for you?" Rory asked. She wondered what her Gran-Mère had to tell her. She hoped it was not bad news or that she and Grandma decided to fix me up with someone. She shook her head. Her Gran-Mère would never do that.

"Can I call you back tomorrow and let you know?" She asked.

"Sure, just leave a voicemail if I don't answer. I will be in the library if I am not in class." Rory told her. She heard a knock on the front door, then she heard Paris smart off at Logan.

"Gran-Mère, I need to go, Pizza is here," she told her and ended the call. Rory got up and opened her bedroom door. She motioned for Logan to come on in. Sometime during one of the 'lost summers' Paris and Logan had a disagreement. Neither will tell what happened, but Paris has no use for Logan anymore.

The next morning after her first class, she saw that she had a voice mail. She listened to it. It was her Gran-Mère. She asked if Rory could meet her today at the Cafe at the corner of Westin and Crumb. Rory called her back and told her she would be there at 12:00.

She sat down on a bench to text Logan. She had almost run into someone while she was trying to send him a text. She told him that she was meeting her Gran-Mère at noon today and would see him later at the paper.
