AFTER THE WWWII (WIZARDING WORLD WAR 2), THINGS CHANGED. Some for the better, and some for worse.
The most prominent change was within the Girl-Who-Lived, Holly Lily Potter. The press and paparazzi were hounding her as best as they could, causing her to take refuge in #12 Grimmauld Place. The only members with access to said house were her two best friends Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom, and Andromeda Tonks with her grandson (Holly's godson) who also needed a refuge from the press occasionally.
Since the press couldn't get anything from the Chosen One, they decided to harass her friends and Andromeda. This led to Neville and Luna's frequent visits to Holly's place (Andromeda had never taken her security down from the war and took care of Teddy, knowing that Holly was in no condition to do so herself). It had begun to get tiring to them all, which gave Luna an idea, which needed just a bit of tweaking. It didn't help that she was an actual Seer, courtesy of her mother's ancestors.
"Forks!" she announced at breakfast, gaining bewildered looks from her boyfriend, BFF, and Kreacher the House-Elf, who stopped the ladle right above the pot of stew levitating underneath his chin, the ladle still being half-full.
"In the left drawer, Lady Lovegood," Kreacher answered in his gravelly voice. His behavior had improved greatly after hearing of Regulus's heroic deeds being displayed in the news. The removal of Sirius's mother's painting had also helped.
Luna sighed and shook her head. "Not the utensil, the location!"
"You're gonna have to be a bit more specific, Luna," Holly said, pushing a strand of her curly crimson hair behind her ear.
Holly had changed much from what she'd been like when she first entered the Wizarding World.
True, her red hair was longer than ever, but it, including her, were in recovery from the scars—physical, mental, and emotional—caused by the war. She finally seemed to be thinking more about herself than the world, seeing that in the world of accomplished wizards, they should be able to figure this out themselves. After all, she had done the hard part: taking Voldemort down.
Call it selfish, call it inconsiderate, but Holly had been selfless enough to be a martyr and now, her first priority was not peace for the world, but something more important: peace for herself.
One thing that never changed, however, was her love for one Hufflepuff prefect named Cedric Diggory, who had tragically died during Holly 4th year in the Triwizard Tournament. Even more tragic was that Holly had to watch it happen, then falling into a depression as a result.
The only good thing it did (if you could even call it that) was fuel her hate for the man who not only killed her parents, but also the love of her life. She could never move on from Cedric, not in a million years, she had told him herself, never expecting that she'd actually have to keep those words.
"I know that we've all felt the need for a get-away," Luna began, shaking off her thoughts, "and I thought that we could get out of the country, you know?"
"Seems plausible," Neville agreed hesitantly. Luna beamed.
Holly, however, seemed hesitant. "This "Forks"," she said, pronouncing the word carefully and suspiciously, "is there a specific reason for you to choose this?"
Luna's mood turned from energetic to somber. "Yes, actually. I had a vision of…" The blonde girl stopped, shaking her head incredulously. "You wouldn't believe me. I don't believe it either."
"What?"
"Cedric is in Forks." Luna winced at her own words, knowing what was to come.
SMASH!
All eyes turned to Holly, who had filled a goblet with orange juice, only for it to smash as she broke it from shock. Her head was lowered, but her trembling bottom lip was still visible. She was fighting off the urge to cry, even in front of those dearest to her. Her fists were clenched on her thighs, creating crescent moon shapes in her palms as she dug her nails in.
"Lord Longbottom," Kreacher suddenly said, "will you accompany Kreacher to the attic to—ah—sort through some old relics of the family?"
Neville took the hint immediately, nodding curtly to Luna as he left with Kreacher in the lead. If anyone could talk sense into Holly Potter, it was Luna Lovegood.
"H-how?" The word left Holly's mouth as soon as Neville and Kreacher were gone. It came out as a weak croak, leaving her a bit embarrassed had it not been with Luna, who'd seen her at her worst many a number of times.
Luna strode over gracefully, like a ballerina, grabbing the chair that had been previously occupied by Neville and swinging it underneath her legs.
She took both her ivory hands and softly grasped Holly's rose-beige, lifting them up to lay in her laps.
Then, the blonde took one hand away to tilt Holly's face up with two fingers, as gentle as though she were lifting a bomb about to explode any second. Whether in screams or tears was unknown to Luna.
"Last night, I was sleeping, or trying to sleep, when I got the vision of a boy in a place called Forks, Washington." Luna's voice was soft and dreamy as always, something the war and becoming a captive never changed, thank goodness. "He looked exactly like Cedric, I was so confused. Then, everything went black, and the only thing I heard before I woke up in a sweat was a voice saying, "Use the stone, use the stone."
"You mean the Resurrection Stone?" Holly asked, her voice hoarse from the silent crying she had been doing.
Luna nodded and continued: "I took the stone and turned it over three times, but—and I can't imagine how nobody woke up from this—nobody that had died came. Not my mother, or...my father."
Now it was Holly's turn to give comfort to her friend, who had paused in her explanation in memory of her father, Xenophilius Lovegood, another man whose life had been lost in the Battle of Hogwarts.
Luna was understandably still taking it hard having been hit with the news out of the blue, soon after she had agreed to be Neville's girlfriend, which was a good thing because despite that depressive surprise being sprung upon in the heat of the moment, the two were still going strong, working on a solution to cure Frank and Alice Longbottom, along with Holly's help, of course.
"So, what did come, then?" Holly asked after a while of remorseful remembrance.
Luna shook off the negativity that had overtaken her for a brief amount of time. "Death, or should I say Thanatos."
Holly sucked in a breath, remembering her own meeting with the God of Death soon after the Battle of Hogwarts. "And? What did he want?"
"Well, first he told me something about what he told you when you met."
"He said…'' Holly fiddled with a lock of hair. "...my story wasn't quite over yet, but that what was to come was going to be worth it for me."
"That explains a lot," Luna murmured to herself. In a louder voice, she reported, "he said that he wanted to give Cedric a second chance, because it wasn't his time to die yet. He also thought you deserved to be with him because he's...your soulmate."
Holly was speechless for a minute. "I...we...we joked about it, but I never thought that"—she let out a shaky laugh—"we were actually the real deal. How do like that?"
Luna giggled along, too. "Moving on, that is why we have to go there. To Forks, I mean—"
"No, really? I thought we were going to California."
"Oh, hush!" A smile escaped Luna's lips anyways, knowing that Holly was feeling better now.
It faded quickly though, because there were two major parts to her Moving to Forks News, and only the first bit had been given.
Naturally, Holly noticed the change within her friend instantly. "What is it?"
"It's...how Cedric came back, Holls," she whispered, terrified of the reaction she would receive. Would she be aghast? Horrified? Heart-broken was definitely going to be one of them, though. "He's…a vampire, Holls."
Luna was expecting Holly to fire questions one by one immediately. Instead, she was silent and contemplative. Luna almost wished she would start shouting and displaying her famous Evans' temper.
"There's more, isn't there?" Holly asked quietly. "I can tell by your face. Spill."
"In the vision that I saw him in, he had his arm—well I'm not quite sure if she was—"
"What is it, Luna?" Holly demanded impatiently. "Just spit it out, would you?"
"Merlin, Holly, he had his arm around another girl!"
Everything came crashing down for her, but Holly kept quiet. Whether it was from the shock of things, or she was so angry, she wasn't capable of saying anything, Luna didn't know.
The boy she'd liked—later loved—had moved on from her.
Holly's pain felt like a million knives digging into her heart, the memories of her and Cedric burning away till the ashes of hurt were left. The heartbreak and depression faded quickly, only to be replaced by anger and betrayal.
Why? Why should she go to Forks if he'd found another girl? So that he could rub it into her face? Did he even remember her? Did being turned into a vampire change his personality?
"Holly, I'm not sure if he has moved on from you," Luna interjected quietly. "When he was changed into a vampire, he might have forgotten all about his previous life. That happens when people are reborn, right? So maybe this was what had happened: he was reborn as a vampire to start anew in America, so everything about his previous life was forgotten, including you."
Luna winced at Holly's look, which clearly stated, Did you seriously just say that right now?
"But not by choice," she hurriedly added, which seemed to make Holly forgive her choice of words a bit. "She might just be his coven sister, not his girlfriend."
Luna had a feeling that the girl was not his vampire sister, or even a vampire, despite her paleness, but seeing Holly's slight hope to get the love of her life back was not going to be snuffed out.
Besides if Holly was Cedric's soulmate, she and him were going to end up together, since both of them still had feelings for each other whether the vampire Cedric knew it or not, and live happily-ever-after, or so Thanatos promised.
"He's your soulmate, Holls, so he's still going to have feelings for you and they will prevail," Luna urged confidently. "Thanatos promised that if you choose this path, you will get Cedric back one way or another, and finally get that happy ending you've always wanted with him."
"How do I know he'll still be the same?"
"We hope, Holls. Because what do we have if not our hope?" said Luna philosophically. "We can only hope that Cedric hasn't changed, but he will once he sees you, I've Seen it. So, what do you say?"
"I say…" Holly let a hesitant smile stretch across her face. "I say, what are we doing here when there are suitcases to be packed? I've got a soulmate to get back!"
A/N: Hi, and welcome to the first chapter of Perfect! I hope the first chapter isn't too cringey. I always saw those memes where Carlisle might've bitten Cedric to turn him into a vampire, and I played this story off of that. This story is also on Quotev. I have yet to publish it on Wattpad, but I'll update you when I have.
