ZAFT: Welp, another chapter goes up today, and boy, you will like this one, Takuya~! :3
Takuya: Why do I feel like I want to run and hide? *Looks nervous*
DarkFoxKit: Maybe you may want to do just that.
Andy: Oh, so is this going to be mostly about Takuya? Does that mean I get a break?
DarkFoxKit: What do you think?
Andy: … I think you're nowhere near close to being finished with tormenting me.
ZAFT: This will be fun for both of you~! :3 *rubs hands eagerly*
Takuya: … time to run… *runs and hides*
DarkFoxKit: Running and hiding won't stop your fate!
ZAFT: On to the chapter while I hunt down our favorite fireboy~ :3
Andy: *Quietly sneaks away*
Chapter 4: Ghost Disease
Andy had some trouble getting back to Fenton Works due to his symptoms acting up on him. He kept going intangible, which was annoying, he had to keep grabbing onto something to keep from falling through the ground. He sometimes went invisible, which wasn't a problem if he was fully invisible, but sometimes he would be missing a head that would freak people out. So Andy was currently wearing his hood up to cover his head, and stuffed his hands in his pocket in case any other body parts went invisible. But that wasn't all, unfortunately, Andy would sometimes find himself floating all of a sudden. Annoyed, Andy picked up the nearest cinder block he could find to keep himself weighed down.
When Andy did finally made it home, he dropped the cinder block, used his home key to unlock the door, and walked inside. Andy went over to the kitchen and took a peek in the lab. His parents were out, good, so he had time to look for the Fenton Ghost Catcher.
However, when Andy went into the lab, he stopped as he looked at the Ghost Zone. It was being its creepy self, but he hoped it wouldn't suddenly start singing or something. The boy began looking around the lab for the ghost catcher, hoping the ghost inventions wouldn't suddenly go off on him.
However, the Fenton Ghost Portal was active, green ecto-energy spinning around as if inviting Andy to come to it.
Ignoring it, because he was definitely still human, Andy pulled out more boxes. He was making quite a noise while he was digging through everything. "Ah-ha, there you are!"
Andy pulled out a net-like thing. It looked like a glowing, high tech Indian dream catcher, but the net itself wasn't actually a net, but some kind of energy and substance that anything could phase through, including living beings. Okay, now I just have to go through this and I'll be cured!
Andy smiled, however, before he could go through it, his head was suddenly bombarded by visions of the future. Futures of Andy lying coldly on the floor, futures of Andy floating in the Ghost Zone, alone. Danny looking for him, unable to find him. Takuya calling out for Andy, but never gets an answer. Another version of Andy looking back at himself, looking scared.
Andy shook his head, trying to get the visions out of his head. Damn it, what a time to get warning visions. Are you saying if I go through with this, I may end up missing or dead?
Andy kicked the Fenton Ghost Catcher, knocking it down to the floor. He looked back at the Ghost Portal. "This is all your fault! You're the reason why I'm like this!"
The Ghost Portal never gave an answer to Andy, just swirling around harmlessly.
"Why didn't you just kill me?" Andy asked.
"Andy? Are you down here?" Someone called, sounding concerned.
Jazz, with Lopmon on her head, came down into the lab, seeing Andy down there with the Fenton Ghost Catcher out for some reason. "Andy? What's going on? Why are you down here… and with the Fenton Ghost Catcher out?"
"Nothing, Jazz," Andy answered as he turned around and walked past her and Lopmon.
"What do you mean 'nothing'?" Jazz frowned. "The lab looks like a mess, what were you doing down there?"
"Looking for something," Andy said. "Listen, I need some time alone right now, alright?"
Jazz frowned. "Okay, Andy… Just… please pick up when you're done, okay?" She wasn't sure why Andy would be so moody. "And… if you ever need to talk about what is on your mind, you know you can always come to my room if you need to, okay?"
Andy just gave a small nod before heading back upstairs.
"I wonder what happened to him?" Lopmon frowned.
"I'm not sure…" Jazz admitted. "But whatever it was… Andy had better not hide it for long. It won't be healthy for him if he keeps to himself for too long."
Andy saw Patamon was sleeping with Dorumon's egg. Andy sighed before he walked over to his bed and laid down on it. Feeling too drained to even try to stay up and find a cure tonight. Andy looked at the egg beside Patamon. I've been through quite a lot since you became an egg again, Dorumon… I wish you didn't protect me from Desiree's magic, because everything turned out alright in the end. Everyone's got their memories back, except for you… maybe if you hadn't protected me, I wouldn't be… I wouldn't have this ghost disease, and you wouldn't be a Digi-Egg right now...
Dorumon's Digi-Egg moved slightly, but didn't do much more. The egg remained still otherwise.
Well… good night then… I hope your now big brother has been keeping you warm. Andy mused before he covered himself under the blanket.
It was difficult for Andy to sleep. Now that the whole 'we must stop Desiree!' adrenaline was gone, and Danny now remembered everything instead of being a complete newbie, it was starting to hit Andy hard on what the second accident did to him. Andy remembered what he saw in Danny's blood when he had been observing it, ectoplasm was aggressive. If it didn't get along with his human blood, then he would've been nothing but a puddle of mush and ectoplasm by now. If the ectoplasm was sticking to his DNA, then Andy wanted it out. He was scared, he didn't know what was going to happen, even if he was a halfa, he didn't know if he would be a stable one. He could melt in the next 24 hours for all he knew.
It also didn't help that some visions of these green glowing bugs flying in his school were coming to his mind. He could see bits and pieces of these bugs flying into other people's skins, infecting them. He saw their bodies starting to exhibit ghostly traits. And now Andy was wondering if maybe he wasn't actually in the second accident, but had been infected by one of these bugs. Of course, he couldn't have ectoplasm on his DNA, that was absurd, it made way more sense that a ghost bug was doing this to him instead.
Then, something burning seemed to come up from Andy's throat. Andy wasn't sure if it was heartburn, or if he was about to burp up stomach acid, maybe he really was sick. Needing to cool off his throat, Andy opened his mouth to try to suck in some cool air, but a dark blue mist came out of his mouth instead. Andy's eyes widened at that. That… was that…?
Then, a form slowly rose from the floor, glowing but in shadow. The form looked up slowly, revealing glowing green eyes, and in its arms was another form that was also in possession of glowing green eyes. The glow from the two figures seemed to make them look like something out of a horror film.
Andy let out a scream, which made the figure coming up from the floor scream, and the thing in its arm to scream. Andy scrambled on his bed and fell on the other side, quickly turning invisible.
"Whoa! Okay… I was not expecting Andy to react like that!" The first figure said. It sounded like Danny's voice.
Andy slowly looked up from his bed, seeing Danny in his ghost form, holding onto Patamon. It was still weird to see Danny with that DP logo on his chest.
"Damn it, Danny! Are you trying to give me a heart attack!?" Andy snapped, still invisible.
"Bro… are you invisible again?" Danny asked, looking around for Andy.
"If I am, it's your fault for scaring the living daylights out of me!" Andy hissed. "Why were you going up through the floor like some sort of creeper? Just use the door like a normal person!"
"Hey, I wanted to get used to using my powers again, so why not?" Danny retorted. He then gave a grin at his invisible brother. "But it was funny seeing you jump like that!" Danny added with a laugh.
Danny's laugh was stopped short when a pillow flew into his mouth.
"It's not funny!" Andy snapped as he finally returned to being visible.
With Andy now visible, Danny noticed Andy was covered in cold sweat.
"Um… Bro? Why are you sweating? Are you okay?" Danny asked in concern.
"I just don't feel very good," Andy answered.
"I did notice that you looked like he was having trouble sleeping earlier," Patamon remarked. "Do you feel sick?"
"I definitely don't feel healthy," Andy replied.
Danny frowned. "How do you feel sick? Are you coming down with something?"
Andy gave Danny an annoyed look. "Gee, I wonder what it could be? Maybe it's the ghost disease, or perhaps the radiation poisoning? Or maybe the possible hundreds of thousands of ectoplasm in my body that really should be removed as soon as possible. Take your pick."
Danny sighed. "Andy… It's not a ghost disease… and you aren't suffering radiation poisoning. You just have ghost powers. You're not dying in any way…"
"Says the half dead ghost boy…" Andy muttered.
"Come on, Andy, what's your problem?" Danny frowned. "Isn't this kind of what you wanted? To not just be human? To understand me? What better way to do that than to be a halfa yourself?"
"Actually…" Patamon spoke up. "Vlad kinda traumatized him about that whole thing back at Colorado."
Danny blinked. "Wait.. what?! What did that fruitloop do to you, Andy?!"
"He didn't do anything, other than sending ghost animals to kill me," Andy grumbled.
"And he was going to use Andy as an experiment to see if he could turn him into a halfa," Patamon explained. "If I hadn't helped him escape back then… who knows what Vlad could've done to him."
Danny looked horrified. "Vlad tried to do that to you?!" He almost shouted, only keeping his voice low because of the fact their parents were in the house still.
"He's a fruitloop, Danny, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to clone you at this rate," Andy sighed. Do I have to worry about Vlad more now? I don't want to think about him right now.
Danny felt like flying right out to Vlad's place and slugging the man in the face for what he did to his twin brother. However, it would do no good and would probably play into Vlad's hands, so he refrained from doing such. Instead, he took a deep breath and let it out. "Okay, I know the man is messed up in the head, but that is just… disturbing…"
Danny then reverted to human form before looking at Patamon. "You really saved Andy. I guess I owe you one, buddy…"
"Why do you think I turned my back on Vlad? I didn't want him doing that to someone, let alone a child," Patamon said.
"But even so, I'm not a halfa anyways," Andy said. "I don't have a ghost form like you and Vlad do. Maybe instead of that second accident, I was infected by a ghost bug or something, and it woke up when the accident shocked me. So it's making me use its ghost traits just to mess with me."
Danny groaned. "Andy… enough about this 'ghost disease' or whatever you claim to have! It's getting annoying, not to mention not even true. I'm going to keep saying you have ghost powers until you get it through your head."
"Keep thinking what you want, bro," Andy grumbled before getting an idea to distract Danny. "Hope you had fun with Sam. Maybe you two should go on more dates."
Danny blushed a bit. "It was not a date! I was just making it up to Sam for the fight we had!" But his blush said it all.
"Mm-hmm, I'm sure that's all that was," Andy smirked. "I wonder if you'll be dreaming about her tonight?~"
Danny threw the pillow back at Andy. "S-shut up, bro!" He stammered out, but his face was as red as a tomato now.
"Goodnight, Danny~" Andy grinned, putting the pillow down on his bed.
Patamon was giggling.
"Goodnight, Andy…" Danny grumbled as he fell back onto his own bed.
It was another morning at Casper High. Andy was yawning, he didn't have a very restful sleep last night. He wasn't sure if he ever wanted to sleep again. He was so paranoid that he would suddenly start melting into mush that he kept opening his eyes just to check himself. He could swear that he felt nauseous, or had a harder time breathing.
Danny could tell Andy was not feeling well, but it was all his own fault because he was thinking he had a 'ghost disease' or something like that. "Bro… if you keep thinking you are sick, your mind will make you think you really are sick."
"Does Andy still think that?" Takuya frowned as he was digging out a book for his next class.
"I think it would be a miracle to get him to not think that at this point," Danny grumbled.
"Ugh… Andy… you need to calm down… You're not dying…" Takuya groaned as he smacked his face with a hand.
Andy looked at Takuya, his hair pretty messy from the lack of combing it. "Careful, if you keep smacking your head with your hand, you're going to leave a handprint."
Takuya only smacked his head against his open locker instead. "Whatever…" He muttered, getting exasperated now.
"And now you left a mark on your head. Good job," Andy gave Takuya a sarcastic thumbs up.
"What crawled up your butt and died?" Takuya grumbled.
Danny had to stifle a laugh at Takuya's comment.
"Probably ectoplasm," Andy answered back. "Because nobody wants to remove it."
Danny was the one to groan this time. "Andy… You know what? Never mind… No one will convince you you don't have a ghost disease. It's pretty clear now you won't change your mind."
Suddenly, a light blue mist came out of Danny's mouth. There was a ghost coming. Andy quickly turned and opened his locker before stuffing his face inside.
As for Takuya, he gasped as he felt the flashes of heat and cold at the same time. "Aw… c'mon…" He groaned. "Another ghost?" Well, at least I've recovered from that battle with Sakkakumon… So I should be good to help fight this one.
Danny quickly looked around, not seeing anyone nearby, so he transformed into his ghost form. He then looked over at Andy, who looked like he may be throwing up in his locker. "Hey, Andy-"
Danny tapped Andy's back. Andy hadn't expected such a cold hand to touch him, so it made his body flinch, making him hit his head on the locker's ceiling with a loud BANG.
"Bro, are you okay?" Danny asked Andy, having seen his brother jump.
Andy groaned as he was rubbing the back of his head. "You are really cold… Just go find the ghost, I'll catch up with you."
Takuya looked at Danny. "I'm coming with you, Danny. You might need my help. Besides, I've recovered from the fight I was in, so I should be able to fight now."
"Alright, let's go," Danny said as he flew ahead.
"I'll be here in case you need back up," Patamon said from Danny's backpack.
When Takuya went running down the hall, Andy stumbled around. He then bumped into a wall. "This wall feels nice…"
Andy just kinda stood there, leaning against the wall for a while. Then he heard one of his science teacher's voice nearby.
Turning his head slowly, Andy saw that there was a giant, green, four red eyed, fuzzy mosquito ghost bug standing in front of the short teacher. Screw me...
"Fascinating… Possibly some of the most interesting mandibular formations I've ever seen…" The science teacher mused as he looked up at the ghostly bug that was looming over him. "I just hope I don't end up seeing them from the inside!"
The mosquito buzzed as it leaned toward the teacher. Andy groaned before he ran over to the teacher, grabbed onto him, and pulled him away before the needle nose could get him. The needle was more like a big sword.
"Move!" Andy shouted.
The teacher didn't need to be told twice. He bolted from the area, just as Danny Phantom came flying in. Agunimon was right behind Danny, not wanting to be left out of the fight.
"Wow… that is one big bug." Danny noted before he grinned. "Time to squash that bug!"
Agunimon smirked. "No need to tell me twice."
"Alright, then let's take this thing outside!" Danny smirked before he flew down to Agunimon, picked him up by the shoulders, and flew at the giant bug.
Agunimon then grabbed onto the mosquito, and Danny turned all of them intangible and flew them through the school's roof. Andy looked up. Huh… wow… shows just how far Danny came.
Outside, Agunimon tossed the giant bug into the air before he kicked it as hard as he could, sending it flying away from him and Danny. The ghost bug hit the ground hard below them. He looked down at the bug with a smirk on his face. "Why don't we land and finish this thing off?" He noted as he looked back at Danny.
"Look out!" Danny warned as the mosquito shot out some kind of gunk from its needle at them.
The gunk turned into some kind of net, it managed to catch Danny and Agunimon, sending them into a tree. Paulina happened to be walking by, and she was surprised to see Danny Phantom and Agunimon hanging upside down in the tree.
Paulina gasped, completely ignoring the Legendary Warrior in the tree, staring at Danny. Danny heard her gasp and opened his eyes. "Paulina?!" He exclaimed in surprise while Agunimon was struggling to get out of the gunky net.
Paulina smiled when she realized she pretty much hit the jackpot, her precious ghost boy was right in front of her.
"You should run," Danny suggested.
Paulina started running towards Danny with open arms like she wanted to hug him.
"No! Not towards me!" Danny exclaimed. "Away from me!" He tried to get her to listen. He aimed his hands as ghost energy came from them, only to fire the ghost ray at the incoming ghostly mosquito.
Paulina gasped at seeing the mosquito and she quickly ran away to get to safety. Patamon came out of Danny's backpack, and he grabbed onto the gunky net around Danny's and Agunimon's bodies before he pulled back. Danny, having actually learned something from Andy about his ghost powers, used his core to make his ghostly energy glow around his body to help break the net around them.
The net was destroyed by the ecto-energy Danny's body emitted, freeing both him and Agunimon. Agunimon yelped as he fell out of the tree, landing on his back. "Ow!"
"Bugs don't usually like fire, right?" Danny asked Agunimon. "Try using one of your fire techniques on this thing."
Agunimon got to his feet, rubbing the back of his head. "Yeah… good idea." Turning to face the ghostly bug, Agunimon held out his arms before slamming his fists together. When he drew his fists apart, fireballs formed on his hands. "Pyro Punch!" Agunimon thrust his fists forward, sending the fireballs at the giant ghostly mosquito.
The giant mosquito shot out green goo at Agunimon and his fiery fists, though the fireballs still managed to reach and burn the ghostly mosquito. It let out a screech as it attempted to try to fly higher.
Agunimon yelped as he was pinned to the tree by the ghostly mosquito's goo. "Gah… Damn it…" The Legendary Warrior hissed. "Today is not my day…"
Danny fired a ghost ray at the giant mosquito while it was trying to recover. Then he flew down at Agunimon, and put a hand on his shoulder, turning him intangible to get rid of the gooey mess.
Agunimon felt the gooey mess fall away and looked at Danny as soon as he was returned to a tangible state. "Thanks." He said with a smile.
"It's coming back! Let's see if we can finish it with a combination," Danny suggested.
The giant mosquito began to charge at Danny and Agunimon, looking quite angry.
Agunimon gritted his teeth, revealing his sharp fangs as he tried to come up with a plan. "Let's see if we can set this thing ablaze somehow."
As the mosquito charged, Agunimon held one of his hands to his face, and used his other hand to start throwing fiery darts. "Pyro Darts!"
Danny fired his own ghost ray with the darts, adding in the ecto energy to the flames. The giant mosquito let out a yell as its body was burning from the fire as well as the ecto energy.
"Who needs a bug zapper when you have a bug flamethrower instead?" Danny grinned.
Agunimon gave a chuckle at that. "That was a good quip." He teased.
Then the giant mosquito suddenly exploded into thousands of smaller ghost mosquitoes. They swarmed up with each other. Danny and Agunimon frowned, but prepared to fight off these little insects. Unfortunately, the swarm didn't bother with them, instead, they all flew into the school.
Agunimon frowned as he saw that. "Oh boy… Looks like we're not done yet…" He muttered before he suddenly perked up, as if sensing something. But it wasn't something he sensed. No, it was something he felt, like something in his fractal code had shifted almost, as if locking into place.
"Ugh… come on, we've got a bug problem to solve," Danny sighed before he started flying down into Casper High.
Then the late bell rang. "... Crap… I'm late!" Danny yelled.
Agunimon however, didn't react to the bell. He was staring at his hands in shock. "Being late isn't the only thing we have to worry about…" Agunimon muttered. "I… I can't revert back…"
Danny looked at Agunimon. "What do you mean you can't revert back?"
"I… I can't release my evolution…"Agunimon clarified. "I tried, but… it's like my fractal code locked into place. I can't turn back to human."
Patamon flew over to Agunimon and studied him for a bit. "That's unusual… Danny, you go ahead and get to class, I'll see if I can figure out why the Spirits aren't letting Takuya release them."
Danny nodded. "O-okay. Just… please figure this out." He said to Patamon before he flew back to the high school.
"We better find you a place to hide in the meantime," Patamon said to Agunimon.
"Great…" Agunimon sighed, but decided to follow Patamon to find a place to hide out for the time being.
Agunimon was sitting in the bushes, to make it worse, these bushes had prickly leaves on them. At least his armor kept him safe, it was just these sticker bushes were irritating.
"It could be that you have excess power built up, and the fractal code is unable to leave your body…" Patamon theorized.
"I don't feel any more powerful than before though." Agunimon pointed out.
"Did you feel anything before you were suddenly stuck?" Patamon asked.
"Well, I did feel like something in my fractal code shifted… Like it was locking into place." Agunimon replied. "But that happened after that ghost bug became millions of smaller bugs."
Patamon frowned. "Hmm… sometimes the Spirits do these things because they feel it would help keep their holders protected. All those ghost bugs… what if they're something dangerous? I mean more than just shooting ghost beams at people."
Agunimon looked down at the ground. "This reminds me of when I was in the Ghost Zone with Jazz. I was stuck in my Spirit form then too. But in the Ghost Zone, I can understand keeping me in my Digimon form. This is outside the Ghost Zone, so that is what makes it so confusing."
"If this is happening to you, then…" Patamon frowned. "... What about Dash?"
Agunimon perked up at the question. "Oh crap… Don't tell me…"
"... You better get Danny or Andy on the line…" Patamon sighed.
Meanwhile, class had just ended, and all the students were walking in the hallway. Tucker was by his own locker, having Terriermon spray him with something. Terriermon had his ears covering his mouth and nose like a mask.
"Tucker! Why are you letting Terriermon spray you in public? What if somebody sees?" Andy hissed as he quickly picked up Terriermon.
"And what is that smell?" Danny gagged.
"First off, Tucker came up with this really cool story that I'm his assistant robot," Terriermon explained. "And second… maybe I should let Tucker explain the smell."
"It's a new all over body spray. I call it, Foley, by Tucker Foley." Tucker said with pride. "It combines with the natural odor to create a sweet, manly scent that smells different to everyone who smells it."
"Tuck… you smell like a sweaty cookie…" Danny responded.
"Really? To me he smells like someone's sock wrapped up with pop tarts," Andy grumbled.
"He smells more like gym shorts and donuts," Terriermon stated.
"You see what I mean?" Tucker grinned. "The ladies will be swarming all over me."
"By 'ladies', I hope you meant me," Niki spoke up, standing behind Tucker.
Tucker looked back at Niki. "You especially, Niki." He grinned.
Niki grinned. "You know, with how quirky your body spray is, you could potentially sell it. It's not every day you could make a smell that smells… unique, and different to everyone else."
Tucker's grin grew bigger. "Hey, that could be a good idea!" He exclaimed.
Suddenly, there was some buzzing sound, and Danny's ghost sense came out of his mouth. Andy felt something burning in his throat, before he turned away from everyone else.
Danny looked up, but didn't see anything. He looked around, trying to find the source of the ghostly energy that had set off his ghost sense.
However, Danny stopped when he saw Paulina, someone he was still infatuated with, but he couldn't help but notice that he didn't feel as… mindless as he once was when he looked at her. Andy looked over at Paulina as well.
The boys who were near Paulina were all greeting her. By the tone of their voices, they were obviously hoping she would look their way. The girls who were with the boys just gave an irritated eye roll, especially the girls who were dating with one of the boys who were greeting Paulina.
Paulina was happy with all the attention. "So many boys…" She said as she reached her locker. She opened her locker to reveal a shrine to Danny Phantom, something that made Danny feel a bit uneasy. "But only one you, ghost boy…" Paulina sighed.
Andy walked over to Paulina, and Danny's eyes widened in worry at his brother. Andy was still holding onto Terriermon, not even realizing he was. "Paulina… I say this because I, somewhat, care. Get some freaking help!"
Paulina just gave Andy a deadpan look. "You're just jealous of our love. Besides, I'm not the one holding a stuffed animal in school," Paulina retorted. "It is meant to be~" She then gave Andy a confused look. "Unless you have some hidden feelings of your own."
Andy's left eye twitched. While he didn't have a problem with gay people, he was not gay himself, nor did he think about his own brother like that. "Eew! No! Eew, gross! No, no, no! Look, you are in love with a ghost boy, emphasis on ghost! Do you know what ghosts usually are? They're dead people!"
Paulina gave a dreamy look at the images in her locker again. "But it is possible, isn't it?" She sighed dreamily.
Terriermon, still in Andy's arms, was trying very hard to keep from laughing at Paulina and Andy's conversation.
"You're drooling on yourself…" Andy grumbled.
Then Andy noticed a small, green, mosquito flying onto the back of Paulina's hand. "Um… there's a-"
The mosquito suddenly went intangible and zipped into Paulina's hand. Andy's jaw dropped when he saw that. Though Paulina didn't see it, to her, all she felt was a bug bite.
"Ow!" Paulina exclaimed at the feeling of a bug bite. "Hey… Whatever bit me blemished my flawless skin!"
"I should've known that you would attract bugs…" Andy commented.
Before Paulina could retort, Danny quickly ran over to his brother, grabbed his arm and pulled him away from Paulina.
"S-sorry about him! You look lovely, as usual, Paulina!" Danny quickly apologized to the girl before he turned to Andy. "Will you stop arguing with Paulina? You're embarrassing me!"
"Oh sure, as if you didn't embarrass yourself plenty of times when you talked to her, or do I need to remind you of your missing pants incident?" Andy asked.
Danny flinched at the reminder of said incident. "Yeah… no need to remind me of that, thanks…" He then perked up. "Oh… Um… Andy… Have you noticed someone missing…? Or, two someones…? Because Patamon isn't here..."
"Patamon?" Andy frowned. "Come to think of it, I hadn't seen Takuya in class today…"
Then Andy remembered something. "Wait, there was a bug-"
"Don't worry, we already took care of that giant bug… somewhat…" Danny interrupted. "Anyways, Takuya is stuck in his Legendary Warrior form. Patamon is outside with him to keep him hidden and figure out what's wrong."
"Wait, wait, wait… back up. What did you mean you only took care of that giant bug somewhat?" Andy asked.
Danny sighed. "The ghost bug became countless smaller ghost bugs." He clarified. "And they flew into Casper High. Now I need to find those ghost bugs and stop them."
"And you haven't been doing that already, why?" Andy questioned.
"N-n-nurse!" Both brothers heard Tucker screaming.
"Oh-no… not again…" Terriermon sighed.
They looked over to see Tucker paralyzed by just looking at the nurse's office. Niki frowned as Sam walked over.
"What's wrong with him?" Niki asked in concern.
"He gets like this every time he sees the nurse," Sam explained. "This is a pretty bad one though."
"What do you usually do?" Niki frowned.
Sam took out a paper bag and slipped it over Tucker's head. "It's best to not let him see it if we can help it." She said before slipping in front of Tucker so he could grab her shoulders. "Okay, Tuck… think of your happy place."
"R-right, I'm not passing a nurse's office, I'm passing a modeling agency," Tucker said as Sam was leading him past the nurse's office and Niki followed.
When they were safely away from the nurse's office, Tucker removed the bag from his face. "Thanks, Sam."
"I didn't know you were afraid of the nurse's office," Niki remarked.
"Nurse's offices, doctor's offices, hospitals… Any place with sharp pointy, sticky things and the smell of sick people makes me uneasy." Tucker replied to Niki. "It's been a fear of mine ever since I was little."
"How did going to the doctor go for you? Niki asked.
Danny and Andy both had flashbacks of being taken to the doctor's for a yearly check up with Tucker. Tucker would start crying loudly, so loud that he ended up passing out before he got to the doctor's office.
"You don't want to know," Danny and Andy both said at the same time.
Then Sam sniffed the air. "Ugh… Speaking of smells, what is that smell? Gym socks and snickerdoodles?"
Niki sniffed as well and smelled something different. "I smell sweaty shirts and cupcakes."
"Foley, by Tucker Foley~" Tucker announced proudly.
"It's Tucker's cologne," Danny explained.
"Which is pretty brilliant, wouldn't you say?" Niki smiled.
Sam had to agree, it was impressive. "Yeah, especially since everyone has a different smell they pick up."
Just then, Danny's ghost sense went off again as he gasped. "Uh oh…"
Andy let out a gasp of his own, though he was taken by surprise and a dark blue mist came out of his mouth. He quickly covered his mouth, though thankfully for him, the others were too busy looking at a certain someone to pay any attention to him.
Ahead of them was Paulina, but she looked sickly, her skin was pale, and her body was glowing a bright green.
"Um… Is Paulina… glowing?" Danny asked. "Like… literally?"
"I know she's supposed to have flawless skin, but this is ridiculous." Sam frowned.
"No kidding, I don't think that's normal." Niki frowned as well.
"Ugh… I feel terrible… and disfigured…" Paulina groaned before she looked at her hand, the same one that had the mosquito fly into. "Stupid bug bite…"
"Bug bite?" Danny frowned.
"That's right! I saw one of those small mosquito ghosts phase into her skin," Andy spoke up, frowning.
Danny looked at Andy. "What?!" He then perked up as he saw another ghostly mosquito flying by towards another student.
This other student turned out to be Jazz. She was walking, when the mosquito went towards her neck. But then brown and pink ears squished the bug before it could get to her.
Danny felt relief at seeing Lopmon's ears sticking out of Jazz's backpack. "Wow… that was close for Jazz…"
"Uh… there's more…" Tucker pointed out.
Indeed, more mosquitos were popping up everywhere. They were going into jocks, cheerleaders, nerds… they weren't discriminating, they were going after everyone.
"This is just like in that horror movie, with the plague of bugs invading the school, infecting the students with a horrible, incurable disease!" Niki gulped.
Danny didn't like what he was seeing. "Oh no…" He murmured as he frowned. "I need to do something…"
"You may not be far off the mark there, Niki," Andy said as he put Terriermon into Tucker's arms. "Get her to safety somewhere, hurry."
"R-right. Come with me, Niki!" Tucker quickly said to his girlfriend, taking her hand and running down the hall that wasn't currently swarming with mosquitoes.
As Tucker and Niki ran down the hall away from where Danny and the others were, Danny looked around and saw an open classroom to go ghost in. "Andy, Sam, cover for me. I'm going ghost!"
"Shout that out a little louder, why don't you?" Andy hissed.
Despite that, Danny ran to a janitor's closet, and shut the door behind him. Andy and Sam went over to the door and leaned against it while there was a flash behind the door. Andy could sense and see Danny, despite being invisible, coming out of the door and phasing through the floor.
"Maybe you should go help him?" Sam suggested to Andy.
"What can I do?" Andy asked. "These bugs could go anywhere!"
Sure enough, a ghost bug flew by as if taunting Andy. It came close to Sam, but Gatomon's tail whipped out of Sam's backpack, slapping the bug into a squished green pancake.
Sam looked back at the tail that was twitching. "Nice save there, Gatomon."
Gatomon responded by sticking out her paw and giving her best impression of a thumbs up.
Sam frowned. "By the way, where are Takuya and Patamon? It's not like them to be late."
"Takuya's dealing with a Spirit crisis right now, and Patamon's helping him," Andy answered.
"You know, I just realized, you can go anywhere yourself too," Sam pointed out, getting back to the original topic.
"In case you hadn't noticed, I cannot control these symptoms!" Andy huffed, and as if to prove his point, both of his hands went invisible. "... See!?"
Sam groaned. "You're still on that idea of having a ghost disease?! C'mon, Andy! You don't have a disease!"
Andy's hands came back to visibility when he noticed something. "Oh yeah? Well, what about them?"
Andy pointed at something behind Sam. Sam turned, and was shocked to see some of the students turning invisible, intangible, or floating up to the ceiling. Some of them shivered before a familiar looking blue mist came out of their mouth.
"Okay… What is going on here?!" Sam asked in shock and horror. Could… Is this even real? There is a ghost disease?!
Suddenly, Danny came up from the floor, which made Andy and Sam jump. Danny transformed back to his human form, holding the Fenton Thermos.
"You need to stop transforming in a public place!" Andy hissed.
"Sorry, bro…" Danny chuckled sheepishly. "But with everyone running and now gone, well, I felt safe to do so."
He then held up the Fenton Thermos. "And that should be the last of the ghost bugs."
"You think so?" Gatomon asked, looking at Danny.
Gatomon, unfortunately, didn't notice one ghost bug flying to Sam.
"Sam! You got a-" Andy tried to warn, but the ghost bug already phased into Sam's skin. "bug…"
Sam yelped and slapped her arm where she had gotten 'bit'. "Ow!"
Danny felt his face grow pale. "Uh… I don't think I got all of them…" He murmured.
Suddenly, Calvin was running past them screaming while a swarm of mosquitos were rushing after him.
"No, really?" Andy grumbled sarcastically.
Danny shrugged. "What can I say? The school's a big place. Would've helped if I had, oh I don't know, another ghost helping me look around?"
"Too bad there isn't another ghost," Andy said back. "You just got a bunch of ghost diseased ridden students."
"What?" Danny frowned.
Andy put a hand around Danny's shoulder and gestured to all the infected students who were showing ghostly traits. Some were glowing now, and getting green skin.
"Take your pick, bro, who's gonna be the 'lucky ghost' who fights alongside you, hmm?" Andy asked in a teasy voice despite the situation.
Danny gave a look to Andy. "Really, bro? You're joking at a time like this?"
"Who said I was joking?" Andy said. "You've been trying to get me to fight alongside you while I was struggling with a ghost disease, how is this any different?"
"Andy, you were in the lab accident with me." Danny pointed out. "You got your powers from an accident, not from these… bugs…"
The door behind them suddenly opened up, and a big, brown looking arm came out, grabbed Andy's back of the shirt and dragged him in. "Whoa!"
"Shhhh! Do you want to give me away?!" A familiar voice hissed.
Andy blinked, having a hand over his mouth to keep him from screaming out. He noticed that a Digimon was holding him, specifically, Arbormon. Andy pulled Arbormon's hand off of his mouth. "Dash? Why are you in your Legendary Warrior form?"
"How should I know?" Arbormon replied. "All I know is that as soon as these… ghostly bugs appeared in the school, my Spirits reacted and I found myself Spirit-Evolved. I was lucky no one saw me at the time when that happened."
Andy frowned. "Strange, Danny said the same thing happened to Takuya…"
Speaking of Takuya, Andy felt his D-Arc vibrating in his pocket. He took it out, seeing the symbol of fire on it. "Looks like that's Takuya now."
"Andy?" It was Takuya's, or rather, Agunimon's, voice that came through.
"No, it's the Muffinman," Andy sarcastically answered. "Of course it's me. What's going on? I'm with Dash right now, and he says he's stuck as Arbormon."
A groan could be heard from the D-Arc. "I thought so… It's the same with me. I can't revert back to human form. I'm not sure if it has to do with those ghost bugs or not, but it's looking like it is."
"Those ghost bugs are phasing into the students' skin," Andy informed. "And when they do, the students themselves started showing ghostly traits. Paulina was literally glowing green, I saw Mikey floating up to the ceiling. And I'm pretty sure Star was sinking into the floor earlier…"
Agunimon's voice came back over the D-Arc, and he did not sound too thrilled to hear the news. "WHAT!?" His voice almost shouted.
Andy and Arbormon had to flinch away from the D-Arc with how loud Agunimon was.
"Yeah… that's definitely what seems to be going on right now," Arbormon agreed.
Suddenly, Andy's hands went intangible, causing him to drop the D-Arc. Andy gritted his teeth as he realized this just happened in front of Dash. Arbormon looked at Andy, and Andy gave him a very sheepish smile.
"Um… Do I want to know what just happened?" Arbormon asked.
"Isn't it obvious? I was bitten by one of those ghost bugs too," Andy grumbled before his hands returned to normal so he could pick up the D-Arc.
"Andy? What happened?" Agunimon asked over the D-Arc.
"I dropped my D-Arc because one of my stupid symptoms was acting up, you know, because of those ghost bugs?" Andy replied.
"You're still on that?" Agunimon sighed.
"Ix-nay on the ost-powers ay!" Andy gritted his teeth. "Ash-day!"
"O-oh…" Agunimon got the message. "Right… Great… one of my cousins was bitten by a ghost bug and Dash and I are stuck in our Digimon forms… This is just not our day…"
Then the fire alarm went off, one of the staff members of the school must've pulled it.
"We'll talk about this later, Takuya," Andy said before hanging up and looked at Arbormon. "We need to get you out of here, quick! This place is going to be swarming with cops and paramedics soon!"
"Okay." Arbormon said before he paused. "Um… how do we do that? I'm not exactly human right now and if we attempt to leave with the others, well… I can't see that going down well..."
Andy looked around the empty classroom they were before noticing someone left a few things behind that they could use. Andy smiled before he turned to Arbormon.
Arbormon suddenly got a bad feeling when he saw Andy smiling at him.
Arbormon was groaning as he was wearing a big, fluffy, pink jacket, as well as a sparkly pink dress to cover his bottom half. He also got a nice, glittery pink hat on his head to boot.
"It's a good thing one of the girls left all that behind when the ghost bugs came." Andy smiled.
"I feel ridiculous…" Arbormon muttered.
"Oh relax, it's working. Besides, too many people are too busy panicking to get a good look at you," Andy replied as they were walking down the hallway. "We're almost to the exit."
Arbormon looked up, and sure enough, there was the exit ahead of them. "Finally!" Arbormon sighed.
As soon as Arbormon opened the door, he saw a few other students, and Mr. Lancer.
"I… don't believe we've met… miss?" Mr. Lancer blinked.
"Um… I'm from… out of town." Arbormon replied, trying to make his voice as high-pitched as possible.
"She's my aunt!" Andy quickly spoke up. "She decided to come visit, and I was showing her around school before those… uh… ghost bugs started attacking everyone. We were in hiding."
Mr. Lancer blinked before nodding. "Well, you'd best get out of here then, before those ghostly bugs get to both of you."
"Yes, we will be sure to do that, thank you," Andy quickly said as he took Arbormon's hand. "Let's go, Auntie… Abigail."
Arbormon let Andy lead him out of sight of the students and Mr. Lancer. "Abigail?" He questioned as he looked at Andy.
"It was all I could think of on the spot, Arbormon. Abigail kinda sounds similar to your Digimon name…" Andy replied.
"Well, at least Mr. Lancer bought it." Arbormon sighed. "Now I can get this ridiculous get up off."
Andy raised up a hand in front of Arbormon, stopping him. "And then what? You can't revert back to being human right now."
Arbormon groaned. "I can't remove it yet? Great…"
"Just keep playing as my aunt until we can figure out how to get your Spirits to let you revert," Andy whispered. "Speaking of which, I better find Takuya…"
"Where is Takuya anyway?" Arbormon asked. "I don't see him anywhere nearby."
"You can sense him, can't you?" Andy asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Andy! There you are!" Danny spoke up, running over to his brother. "I thought you went invisible earlier, but then I found out you weren't actually- uh… who's this?"
"Hey… uh… Danny, have you met our aunt Abigail?" Andy introduced.
Arbormon raised a hand and waved sheepishly.
"Our aunt Abigail?" Danny asked, confused. "We don't have an aunt named Abigail, nor does she look like this."
"Well, we do now," Andy sighed. "It's Arbormon, Danny. I had to disguise him somehow to get him out of the school. Like with Takuya, he can't revert back to human."
"Wait… That's Dash?" Danny blinked surprised before he started laughing uncontrollably. "Oh my gosh! How did you get Dash to wear that outfit?!"
Arbormon groaned. "Way to laugh, Fenton… It was the best thing Andy could think of to hide my current state!"
"You guys were able to get out too?" Tucker spoke up, walking over to them.
"Yeah… where's Niki?" Danny asked.
Tucker sighed. "She got bit…"
Danny groaned. "Ugh… great… Who else will get bit by this bug?"
"Speaking of students getting bitten, where are they?" Andy asked.
"The teachers are making them stay inside the school," Tucker answered. "They're trying to quarantine those who are showing signs of ghost traits until the paramedics get here." Tucker then shivered. "Paramedics…"
"Then shouldn't Andy stay in the school?" Arbormon suggested. "He got bit by one of the ghost bugs."
"Uh… you're…?" Tucker blinked.
"Arbormon in disguise," Danny informed.
"Ah, gotcha." Tucker winked. "Why would you think Andy's been bitten by one of the bugs?"
Arbormon frowned, but answered. "I saw Andy's hands turn intangible, like a ghost's. He dropped his D-Arc because of it."
Andy sighed as Danny and Tucker looked at Andy. "What? It's not like I wanted that to happen!"
"Bro, you…" Danny hesitated, realizing Arbormon didn't know about his ghost powers. Danny sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. Ugh… great… I really need to teach Andy how to use his ghost powers when this is over...
"Is there anyone here who's feeling sick? Or showing any… abnormal traits?" Mr. Lancer asked through a megaphone. "We can't afford this plague to spread to the other students!"
Andy started sinking into the ground. Danny's eyes went wide, seeing his brother's lack of control over his ghost powers was seriously biting him in the butt right now. Danny grabbed onto Andy's arm and pulled him back up.
"Mr. Lancer! I think we have someone!" Somebody shouted, likely having seen Andy sinking.
Danny froze, while still holding onto Andy. Oh… crap… "Uh…" He hesitated.
Arbormon had seen Andy sinking as well and how Danny was reacting. He felt sorry for Danny, having his twin brother being sick with these ghostly symptoms and all.
Mr. Lancer approached the twins, looking at Andy's legs to see they were currently intangible. The teacher sighed. "I'm getting too old for this…"
Andy finally managed to get his legs to return to normal so he could walk on solid ground again.
"Come on, Fenton, we need to get you into quarantine," Mr. Lancer said.
"Yes, Mr. Lancer," Andy replied before he followed Mr. Lancer into the school building.
Danny groaned. "Now what? My brother's in quarantine, my cousin and Dash are stuck in their Digimon forms, and ghost bugs are everywhere… How could this day get any worse?"
"Please don't ever say that, you tempt fate when you do." Tucker frowned.
Suddenly, cop cars and ambulances began surrounding the school. A tall, very pale looking, creepy man came out from one of the ambulances, having a grin on his face. He was wearing some kind of red lens glasses on his eyes. Danny got a bad vibe from that guy.
"Um… Okay…? That person with the red lensed glasses is giving me a creepy vibe…" Danny muttered as he eyed the person warily.
"He's a doctor, they always give creepy vibes," Tucker grumbled.
"While this is going on, I'm going to see if I can find Takuya," Arbormon said.
Danny nodded. "Good idea. It may be best if we have all the help we can get."
Andy was sitting on a chair in the hallway, and he saw the other students were starting to mutate a little. Their skins were turning green, they were shivering like they were cold, their hands were glowing green, they couldn't stop floating, or turn invisible. Some of them had to hang on to something solid for dear life when their bodies go intangible.
"Andy?"
Andy turned, surprised to see Jazz here. "Jazz? Did you get bitten by a bug too?"
Jazz nodded. "I was. Lopmon was distracted and the next thing I know, I feel a bug bite, but it wasn't a normal bug bite. After I was bitten, I began to experience a ghost sense coming out of my mouth." As soon as she said that, said ghost sense left her mouth. "See?"
"Yeah… it looks like those bugs that went into someone gave them ghost powers," Andy noted. "I mean look at everyone. It's like this is a show, and this is the school for ghosts."
"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you, Jazz…" Lopmon apologized. "I don't know what this will mean for you though… I mean your brother is half ghost, so maybe… this isn't a bad thing? You just have to learn to control the powers, right?"
"I don't know…" Jazz trailed off. "These powers… feel… off. While cool, it feels like something isn't right with what is going on."
"Of course it's not, this is a ghost disease. You know as well as I do there could only be one halfa in the family," Andy sighed. "But… just for references… do you feel anything in your chest? Like a cold spot or something at all?"
"A cold spot? No," Jazz answered. "Why?"
"Well… according to Danny, that cold spot he usually feels is his core, that's what he uses to transform and use his ghost powers," Andy explained. "Since you don't feel it… you likely don't have a core."
"Then… if I don't have a core… what will happen?" Jazz frowned. "Is it possible for a halfa to not have a core?"
"I don't know. These ghost powers are coming from the ghost bug that went into your body, right? So instead of a core, that bug is what's making you use ghost powers," Andy guessed. "This might be a version of overshadowing… since ghosts can make the bodies they're using use their ghost powers."
Jazz didn't like what she was hearing. "So… we're just meat puppets for the ghost bugs?"
"Think of the ghost bugs as viruses. They're making us use ghost powers, and mutate us," Andy suggested. "Some of the students are turning more ghost-like, probably because they got more than one bug inside them. In other words; we have a ghost disease."
"Andy, were you bitten by a ghost bug?" Jazz asked, confused as to why Andy was in here.
"Why do you think I'm here?" Andy asked before his arm turned invisible and he showed it to her. "It's certainly not because of my invisible personality."
Jazz looked awe-struck as well as somewhat horrified. "You did get bit!"
"Did he?" Lopmon questioned. "I don't know… his ghostly trait feels… different from yours, and everyone else's for that matter. Though I can't quite put my finger on why…"
Jazz looked at Lopmon. "Oh? How so? How is Andy's ghostly trait different?"
"Well… yours and the other students' feel sickly, unnatural, less controlled. Andy's feel… more controlled, more… natural, I think?" Lopmon guessed.
"Maybe it's just because I'm the closest thing to another Danny Phantom…" Andy muttered.
Jazz frowned at Andy's words. "Andy… what is happening is bad, yes, but we can find a way through this."
Suddenly, the doors open. Everyone froze as they looked to see a creepy looking doctor grinning at them. "Don't panic, students, we're here to help and figure out what's wrong with you all. Your parents have been informed, so they'll be here soon. However, you'll have to restrain from going to them since we don't know if what you have is contagious or not yet."
Andy frowned, getting a bad vibe from the doctor. Is this guy a real doctor…?
"What do you mean Andy's in quarantine!?" Agunimon shouted when Arbormon found him.
"Exactly that," Arbormon stated. "Andy was bitten by one of those ghost bugs, and his ghost symptoms acted up, so Mr. Lancer took him to quarantine."
Agunimon groaned as he put a hand to his face in exasperation. "This can't get any worse…" He muttered. Andy is in quarantine because of his ghost powers?! What is that boy thinking?! He wasn't bitten by a ghost bug! Agunimon then sighed as he removed his hand from his face. "Okay… What we have to do is find Andy and the other students and find out where they are going, if someone is even coming to check on the students who were bitten."
"Someone already did," Danny spoke up, having followed Arbormon when he was looking for Takuya. "Some creepy looking doctor with skin that's way too pale to be healthy."
Agunimon actually jumped at Danny's voice before he looked back at the boy. "Don't sneak up on me like that!" The Warrior of Flame exclaimed as he tried to calm his racing Digi-Core/heart.
"I wasn't sneaking…" Danny deadpanned.
"He's a little riled up right now," Patamon chuckled sheepishly. "I mean he was so upset that he didn't even laugh when he saw Arbormon in that get up."
Agunimon grumbled. "It's not my fault the Spirits trapped me like this…"
"Have you tried talking to them?" Danny asked.
Agunimon and Arbormon looked at Danny.
"What? I was kinda under the impression your Spirits were, you know, alive? Couldn't you talk to them?" Danny questioned.
Agunimon smacked his face with his hand. "Ugh… I can't believe I forgot about that…" He grumbled. 'Agunimon… what's going on? Why did you trap me in my Spirit form?!'
'Sorry, Takuya. It was to protect you. Ghostly energy was everywhere, and it would have been a bad idea to have you revert to human form with those ghostly bugs out there.' Agunimon's voice replied to Takuya. 'If one of those bugs had gone into you, the bond you have with us would have kicked in and fought with the ghostly insect, thus possibly killing you in the process. There are also many ghost-like entities out there, way too many for a human to handle safely.'
Agunimon finally opened his eyes and spoke up to Danny. "Apparently I am stuck like this because of lots of ghostly energy around, and those ghostly bugs that we fought are part of the issue as well."
"My Spirits told me the same thing," Arbormon sighed. "So we're stuck like this until this whole thing gets resolved."
"Great…" Danny groaned. "I need to do something… Arbormon, could you go check to make sure nobody else is exhibiting ghostly traits?"
Arbormon nodded. "I think I can." He replied.
Agunimon felt a bit left out. "Hey! Aren't you forgetting someone?" He muttered.
"I need to talk to you, alone," Danny hissed to Agunimon.
Agunimon paled, but nodded. "O-okay…" What did I do this time?!
When Arbormon was far away, Danny looked back at Agunimon and Patamon. "I need to rescue Andy, he's not one of the sick ones. He's just half ghost like I am, even if he does keep denying it. He shouldn't need to be in there."
Agunimon grumbled. "No, duh! I'm well aware of that." The Legendary Warrior pointed out.
"Great, maybe you can get him out then," Danny replied back.
Agunimon blinked. "Wait… Me?! Why? You're the one with ghost powers and you can sneak in far more easily than I can right now."
"No. They're checking for all the ghostly students right now. Meaning they likely have equipment for keeping ghostly kids from accidentally leaving. Meaning, as a ghostly kid myself, I can't go in there," Danny explained. "You, on the other hand, are tall enough to pose as one of the paramedics."
"I'm not human right now!" Agunimon retorted. "I can't exactly hide myself as a paramedic when I'm like this." He gestured at his armor and fangs.
"Is that so?~" Danny grinned so wide that he was unintentionally showing his own, smaller fangs.
Agunimon was beginning to regret coming back to America. Was coming back here worth it? I don't really know now… Not with how scary this family can be...
"What did you have in mind?" Patamon asked.
"Just wait here, I'll be right back~" Danny smiled before he walked away.
Agunimon and Patamon waited for a few minutes, they could hear cars coming into the school, the cars belonged to the parents of the students.
"Alright, I found you the perfect disguise," Danny said, seeming to have popped up out of nowhere.
Agunimon literally jumped for the second time that day. "Geez, Danny! Do you like scaring me like this?!" Agunimon hissed, feeling embarrassed for being startled twice by his cousin.
"Didn't realize it was this easy to sneak up on you," Danny laughed. "Anyways, here, put these on."
Danny dropped a thick looking gown, a face mask, a big looking hat, some sunglasses, and a white coat.
"Where did you get these?" Patamon questioned.
"Oh… that's… not super important. Totally didn't overshadow a fat looking doctor and make him fall asleep so I could take off his clothes…" Danny muttered.
Agunimon sighed. "You did do that…" He muttered before looking back at the clothes. A frown was on his face. "I might have to remove my armor if I'm to sneak in while dressed up in this getup."
"You can do that?" Danny blinked.
"Well ,yeah." Agunimon replied. "I just haven't had to do so before." As if to prove his point, Agunimon reached up and pulled off his facial armor. Underneath the armor was a very human-like face, save for the red markings and fangs. In fact. Agunimon's face looked similar to Takuya's, just more adultlike.
"Wow… this is awesome. The mask should keep your fangs and red markings concealed, you look a lot more human without the armor," Danny pointed out.
Agunimon chuckled at the remark. "Well, I am in my Human Spirit form." He joked. Agunimon removed the rest of his armor, leaving only his black bodysuit on.
"Alright, once you dress up like a doctor, act like you're supposed to belong in there," Patamon instructed. "Otherwise the other doctors will get suspicious of you."
Agunimon nodded as he slipped on the disguise. "Okay… Just act like I belong there. Got it…" He muttered.
"When Mom and Dad get here, I'll have to cover for you and Andy," Danny said.
As if on cue, they heard a loud engine coming into the parking lot, and a loud CRASH. Both of them looked out to see a very familiar Fenton tank- RV had just crashed into someone's car. A very angry looking man glared at the people coming out of said tank.
"Sorry about that! Just send us the bill!" Maddie quickly said to the angry man.
Agunimon sweat-dropped at seeing his uncle crashing the RV… again. "Something tells me this won't be as easy as it seems…"
"Don't worry, kids, we're coming!" Jack called out.
"No… it isn't…" Danny groaned. "Somehow I feel like I got the harder job… Good luck, Takuya."
Agunimon nodded before he slipped on the mask to cover his face. "Okay… Here we go…" He stood up and made his way out of the bushes, trying to act like a doctor would. He slipped on the sunglasses to hide his blue eyes as well. If it wasn't for the fact Danny knew it was Agunimon, he would have looked like a doctor for sure.
The creepy looking doctor was checking some of the students as the other doctors were trying to put the kids on some stretchers, but most of them kept phasing through the stretchers. Andy was lying on one of the stretches, he could swear he was feeling weaker.
He could see most of the other students looked like they were actually feeling weak, overwhelmed, ill, or in some form of discomfort. Even Jazz didn't look so good. Lopmon was looking at her worriedly as he pretended to be a stuffed animal she was using for comfort. Andy could see Sam hugging Gatomon, though she looked pretty pale and weak. There was also Niki, who was shivering uncontrollably, and a ghost sense came out of her mouth.
Andy wondered if that was happening to him, if he, and the rest of the students, were slowly getting sicker and sicker from this ghost disease. If the ghost bugs inside them were slowly sapping away at their life energy. Maybe Andy wasn't bitten by a ghost bug, but the accident could definitely be killing him right now. He put an arm over his eyes, just wanting the world to fade away.
"Scuse me, pardon me, important doctor coming through!" Someone, who sounded ridiculously similar to Takuya, spoke up.
Footsteps reached Andy's hearing, and a form knelt down next to him. A warm hand, warmer than what a human would feel like, touched Andy's shoulder. "Andy?"
Andy lowered his arm from his eyes. "Hmm?"
He saw the face of a really tall, and surprisingly, long haired doctor looking at him. Though he was getting a hot feeling from his chest as he looked at the doctor.
Carefully looking around, the doctor finally deemed it safe enough and reached up, removing the mask and sunglasses, revealing a very familiar face.
Suddenly forgetting about his own 'sickness', Andy's energy and strength returned quickly when he looked at Agunimon in shock. "Agu-" Andy quickly lowered his tone to a whisper. "What are you doing here? Why are you dressed like that? You could go to prison impersonating a doctor!"
"Andy… you're not supposed to be here!" Agunimon hissed. "And if this gets you out of here, then so be it! Besides, no one will be able to find me since I am not even human right now!" He then looked right at Andy, blue eyes meeting green. "But right now, that is not important! You are not infected with a ghost bug, so you should not be here!"
"Wait, Agunimon, don't-" Andy started to say before Agunimon got behind Andy, and quickly began pushing his stretcher. "Agunimon, stop!"
"Where are you going?" One of the paramedics asked Agunimon as he was pushing Andy's stretcher away.
Agunimon froze. Shit… His mind was racing as he tried to come up with an excuse.
"Yes, 'doctor', where are we going?" Andy repeated.
"This… uh… patient needs medical attention right away, and I am taking him to a safe place to get examined quicker," Agunimon quickly said.
They're not going to buy that. Andy rolled his eyes.
The paramedic blinked for a moment, looking at the very nervous Agunimon. "... Well, alright then, doctor, you better hurry. We have a lot of unusual cases with these kids. Dr. Bert Rand is calling for a specialist right now."
Agunimon blinked, surprised the paramedic bought it.
Worst. Paramedics. Ever! Andy growled.
Agunimon nodded, unable to believe his luck. Wow… I don't know if that was good luck or not, but I won't look a gift in the face. He continued to push Andy's stretcher away, not even looking back.
"Agunimon, stop, right now!" Andy snapped.
Agunimon didn't stop, he kept going, he was almost at the exit doors. But then suddenly, Andy turned intangible and fell through the stretcher and onto the floor.
Agunimon stopped and looked back. "Andy?" He ran over to where the boy was. "Are you okay?"
Andy groaned a little as he stood back up. "First of all, you are a reckless idiot. Second, what are you trying to do?"
"I'm trying to get you out of here!" Agunimon hissed back. "You aren't sick with a ghost disease! That's what everyone is trying to tell you! Hell, Danny asked me to get you out of here!"
Andy noticed he wasn't feeling weak anymore, in fact, the only times he ever felt weak was when he was actively thinking about it. He was not going to admit any of this to anyone of course.
"I'm sure he did," Andy grumbled. "But I'm not leaving."
"Why not?!" Agunimon snapped back. "You don't belong in here! I know that, Danny knows that, and even Patamon knows it! Heck, even Dorumon, if he were here, would be in agreement with me!"
Andy looked away when Agunimon mentioned Dorumon. "Look, me being here is beneficial to all of us, whether or not I actually have a ghost disease. Don't you think this is strange? Why and how the ghost bugs infected everyone? And that creepy doctor? He seemed like he was enjoying this, his grin looked like the grin of someone whose plan was going well. I'm sure you've felt it, that there's something wrong here. It would be best if I stayed here with the others to see what's going on. But I can't do that if you pull me out of here like a maniac."
Agunimon felt the sting of guilt pierce his chest at Andy's expression. "Andy…" He sighed. "I'm sorry I brought that up…" He then considered Andy's words. "But… now that I think about it… it is strange…" Then he paused. "Wait… the paramedic said something about a Dr. Bert Rand… That name sounds familiar…"
"Yeah… besides, I don't want to be too far from Jazz and Sam while they're vulnerable like this," Andy replied. "They look really sick. I can't help but worry about them. Those ghost bugs could be killing them faster than the-"
Andy sighed, knowing if he brought up he was dying too, Agunimon would just argue with him again. "I just want to know what those ghost bugs are doing to them."
Agunimon frowned. "So I can't make you change your mind then?" He asked. Aw man… Danny is going to be so mad at me if I don't come back with Andy...
Andy looked at Agunimon. "Where did you get that disguise?"
"Um… Danny found it for me…" Agunimon admitted.
"Uh-huh… well, Dr. Mon, I have a request for you then," Andy spoke up. "Since you're here, why don't you come with me then? Having a doctor here will help with the investigation, you can move around a lot more than I can here since I'm supposed to be one of the patients."
Agunimon looked thoughtful. "You know… that could work." He then looked at Andy. "But 'Dr. Mon'? Really?"
"I could just call you Dr. Takuya, or Dr. Agunimon, which will it be?" Andy asked. "Or maybe I should say Dr. Clumsy because you dropped me."
Agunimon sighed. "I guess Dr. Mon it is…" He grumbled. Andy sure is snarky… But what's Danny going to think?
"What's taking Takuya so long?" Danny grumbled.
All the parents were standing just outside the school with their science teacher trying to keep them from entering.
"Why can't we see our children, Mr. Falluca?" Maddie was asking the man. "This is outrageous! They need us!"
"Now I understand your concerns, folks, but I've been instructed not to disseminate any information at this time," Mr. Falluca said, trying to keep Maddie, and the other parents for that matter, as calm as possible.
"But you're one of the teachers! It's your job to disseminate information!" Maddie snapped back.
Jack began crying dramatically. "Poor Jazz… she had such a bright future ahead of her with her intelligence!"
Jack blew his nose into a handkerchief. Then he looked over at Danny, the only Fenton child to be with them and not in quarantine. "Danny, when are Andy and Takuya coming back from the bathroom again?"
Danny froze. "Um…" Crap… where are you Takuya?!
"Oh, and here, don't lose this, it was your grandfather's. Though you might want to get it cleaned," Jack said as he gave Danny the used handkerchief. "I just figured I should give one of our kids something. This made me realize how fast tragedy can strike, no matter who you are!"
"Uh… thanks…" Danny said, trying not to hurt his father's feelings. Bleh! This is so gross! Did Dad really have to give me this thing?!
"Hey Danny! Come over here," Tucker called to him. "You've gotta check this out."
Danny was glad for the distraction, the longer Agunimon was taking, the more stress he was feeling. He walked over to Tucker. "What's up?"
Tucker was grinning. "I have another one of those ghost bugs for you." He opened his hand, revealing he was indeed holding one. "And it hasn't tried to go into me like it did with the other students."
"What?" Danny blinked. "That's weird… I figured my ghost powers were protecting me. What's protecting you?"
The ghost bug finally flew away. Danny quickly grabbed it before it could infect someone else.
"I thought it was Terriermon's data at first, but then I remembered what I had been spraying on my body recently." Tucker said as he held up his new cologne. "It's probably my cologne, Foley. I mean, I'm the only one who is wearing it, and I have not been bitten by one of those bugs."
"Too bad you didn't think of spraying Niki," Terriermon commented.
Tucker grimaced. "Yeah… I probably should have sprayed some on her." He admitted.
"But your cologne acts as a repellent too, that could come in handy." Danny grinned.
"Handy? How?" Tucker asked as he looked back at his friend.
"It'll keep those ghost bugs from biting you, and maybe we could use that," Danny said.
Suddenly, the doors opened, revealing the creepy doctor. He was still grinning. "Hello, people, I am Dr. Bert Rand."
Tucker peered out at the doctor. "Wow… He gives me a creepy vibe, and not in the usual sense of a creepy vibe from doctors."
"I thought the same thing." Danny frowned before he took out his D-Arc to try to call Takuya.
"Are you from the government disease control center?" Maddie questioned Dr. Bert Rand.
"Sure, let's go with that." Dr. Rand replied, still grinning like a mad man. "I can assure you that your children are in good hands and will be transferred to the creepy, abandoned hospital on the edge of town."
Tucker felt like smacking his face with a hand. "Did he really just say he was taking students to an abandoned hospital that is no longer in use?" He groaned.
Maddie raised an eyebrow. "Under quarantine?"
"Yes, let's go with that too." Dr. Bert Rand grinned.
"And why should we trust you? You look pretty sketchy for a doctor," Jack questioned.
Danny felt his spirits lift at hearing his dad's words. Thank you Dad!
"Because I'm with the government and I can audit your taxes if you don't." Dr. Rand countered.
At that, Maddie and Jack frowned, but didn't argue anymore.
"Okay, that is it…" Danny growled as he was calling Takuya with his D-Arc.
As soon as the symbol of fire was on the screen, Danny snapped. "Where the hell are you, Takuya!?"
"Danny, calm down!" Agunimon's voice replied over the D-Arc. "Listen… I did try to get Andy out, but he had a few good points that we can't ignore. For one, the students getting ghost powers is strange, and well… he wants to find out what is going on. He thinks the ghost bugs and the powers received from the 'bites' are connected. Second, because of the disguise you gave me, I can go with him to find out what is going on."
Danny groaned. How does Andy do it? Not only did he talk Takuya into joining him on this excursion, he turned my plan against me!
Tucker was grinning. "Sounds like Andy knows you too well, Danny~"
"Shut it," Danny grumbled, before what Agunimon told him started to sink in. "Although… Andy does have a good point. I don't trust that creepy doctor, especially since he said they're transferring everyone to the old 'abandoned and creepy hospital' by the edge of town. Not to mention Sam, Jazz, and Niki are going to that hospital themselves. We need to find out what's going on."
"Does that include me?" Tucker frowned. "Dude… it is a hospital! You know I don't do well at hospitals!"
"Look, we're going to need all the help we can get. You and Terriermon can stay outside of the hospital though in case we need backup, will that make you feel better?" Danny asked.
Tucker sighed. "If I'm going to be doing this, then I guess that works out. You'd just better make sure you don't need my backup."
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on this big baby," Terriermon promised.
Danny grinned. "Well, it appears we have a plan in place then." He said with a smile.
"Are we going there tonight?" Patamon asked.
"Yeah, I'm going to need some time to… make sure 'Andy' and 'Takuya' are at home before I go to the hospital," Danny answered.
Since Agunimon was playing doctor, he decided to stay close to Andy. He was handling Andy's stretcher when Dr. Bert Rand called for everyone to push the students' stretcher into a specialized ambulance that would keep them from falling out.
All the paramedics began pushing the students' stretcher into this ambulance, which was a strange green and gray color.
As soon as he saw the ambulance, Agunimon felt an uneasy feeling creeping into his gut. However, he pushed the feeling aside and continued to play his part. Hopefully this Dr. Bert Rand won't get suspicious of me. The last thing I need is my cover being blown… He thought nervously.
Agunimon pushed Andy into the ambulance. "I'll be staying with the students, to make sure none of them go floating away or something."
Dr. Bert Rand looked hesitant. "... Very well, but you'll have to leave them to our specialized doctors once we get to the hospital."
Agunimon didn't like the way Dr. Bert Rand looked hesitant and frowned to himself behind his face mask. "I understand…" He said, although he had no intentions of leaving Andy, Jazz, Sam, and Niki alone with this guy.
Once everyone was set up in the ambulance, the doors closed behind them. The ambulance was way bigger on the inside since it fit all the students.
Agunimon and Andy looked around, seeing how the students were either asleep, or too busy trying to talk to each other to find out what's going on with them to pay them any mind.
Agunimon looked down at Andy, seeing that Andy looked pretty weak.
He reached out and placed a comforting hand on Andy's shoulder, giving the boy's shoulder a gentle squeeze of reassurance. "It will be okay, Andy…" Agunimon murmured softly to Andy.
Andy gave a sigh, deciding to talk to Agunimon while they were on their way to the hospital. Though he had to talk quietly.
"How do you know, by the way?" Andy softly asked. "How do you know if I'll actually be okay?"
Agunimon frowned before reaching up and removing his face mask so Andy could see his face. "Andy… You're not being infected by anything."
"How do you know if I'm actually half ghost and not just dying and only showing ghostly traits?" Andy questioned. "There's too many factors that could change the outcome of that accident. What happened to Danny was a miracle, we all know that. What are the chances the same thing would happen to me?"
Agunimon was quiet for a moment.
"I'm… I'm scared, Takuya… I'm terrified…" Andy admitted. "I'm scared that I could be dying. I'm scared that we just think I'm okay because Danny turned out to be fine. But… I'm also scared of being a halfa. You saw how much Danny changed after the accident. You saw how much danger and trouble that put us through. And we don't even know what more changes could happen to him when he gets older, assuming he's even still aging at this point. What would that mean for me…?"
Agunimon reached up and ran a hand through his wild blonde hair as he sighed. "That's… It's hard to say what could happen…" He admitted at last. He then lowered his hand and looked back at Andy. "But… It's going to be okay. You have me, Danny, Jazz… you have lots of people, and several Digimon, who care about you and want you to be safe. You won't die, Andy. You are going to be fine." Agunimon reached out and squeezed Andy's shoulder again. "And if something does happen, you won't have to face it alone. Besides… I saw what happened. It isn't the end of the world if you have ghost powers, Andy."
Agunimon then reached out and touched Andy's chest. "I can sense ghost energy, remember? And I can sense the ghostly energy within you is stable." He then looked back at the other students. "Unlike the others… The ghostly energy in them is not only unstable… it's not their own."
Andy let out a sight, before turning over on the stretcher and curled up in on himself, as if hoping it would protect him from the truth. This caused Andy's body to go invisible.
Agunimon could feel Andy's body below his hand. "Andy… you're invisible."
Andy didn't give a response back.
"Andy, please… just listen to me. You're not going to have anything bad happen to you. You're protected by not just Danny and myself, but also your friends, and even the Celestial Digimon and those close to them." Agunimon said gently. "If anything, you have powerful allies, allies and friends. We won't let anything happen to you, okay?" He gently rubbed Andy's shoulder his hand was currently perched on.
Agunimon wondered if Dorumon would've been able to talk to Andy and bring him comfort. He wasn't sure if he really helped Andy, since he confirmed Andy was indeed half ghost like his brother. But Andy needed to stop trying to hide from the truth, it wasn't healthy for him, and the sooner he accepted it, the sooner he could learn to actually control his powers.
Looking down at Andy, Agunimon couldn't help but think of Dorumon. Dorumon… are you even aware of Andy's plight right now? If so… please… help him. He needs you…
What should I do? For once, I'm clueless… Andy sighed to himself.
Titanic X: DarkFoxKit: Well, I'm glad you enjoyed Dany and Andy trying to control their powers.
Ai Kuro08: ZAFT: Yeah, Andy will be in denial for a while… ^^'
Dp-Marvel94: DarkFoxKit: Since I know you've read WAP before, I'm going to give a bit of insight compared to that and Digital Phantom. In WAP, I had Andy accept that he is half ghost when they were fighting with Desiree, even though he still didn't like it at the time. In Digital Phantom, however, he remains stubborn for a lot longer. This gave me the opportunity to use the original idea I had for WAP for the episode Doctor's Disorders.
ZAFT: And I will admit, it is quite fun to see Andy in denial for longer. :3 Not to mention the antics of the last chapter. XD I am so glad you liked those~ :3
DarkFoxKit: Andy using his journal and notes to help walk Danny through his powers was a pretty fun thing to do. I thought it gave Andy more of a reason to help Danny re-familiarize his ghost powers before Desiree gave Danny back his memories. Really glad you enjoyed the chapter.
Ed: ZAFT: Some powers will be different, yes, but the same basic powers will apply.
DarkFoxKit: Excluding the basic ghost powers, like flight, invisibility, intangibility, ghost ray, and being able to see in the dark, they'll likely have different sets of ghost powers.
Leragon33: ZAFT: Yes, yes he does. XD
