Chapter 6 - Lake Town
Tauriel and Harry left Lake Town with their charges in a jar. The two would come with them to the ruins of Dale. Harry wished to find out just what made those two tick for the abuse they did to the citizens of Lake Town. With a flourish they reappeared at the entrance of Dale. Or what was left of it. Harry looked around at the place and decided that this would be a much better place to dwell for the Lake Town citizens. But first it was time to question the two leeches.
"Open the jar, please." she said to Tauriel.
Harry cast a silent levitation spell and levitated the tiny men into the air. She brought them close to her and held them before her. The two men were freaking out and flailing their little arms violently in the air. Harry rolled her eyes. You would think that she was a cat about to eat them with the way they were carrying on.
"Silencio." the little squeaks that they had been making ceased.
"Now, listen to me!" she snapped, and they finally stopped moving.
"You will tell me what I wish to know." Harry said and they nodded.
Harry moved forward in her questioning about Lake Town. She got the answers she desired. The Master was a coward who desired wealth and power at the cost of others. He would burn homes, leave children parentless, all in the name of his own desires. Harry had no use for a man like that. Alfrid was just a plain old coward. He had been one of the children that had been left parentless by the master. He had grown up very bitter, but he had a couple redeeming qualities. They weren't spectacular but they were there. It was from Alfrid that she got the information she desired. Apparently, the true leader of the town should be a man named Bard. He was the descendant of the original ruler of Dale, Girion. The leadership had been usurped by one of the previous masters. But now it would be with who it should be.
Harry sent Tauriel with Alfrid to deliver a message to Bard. He was required to meet her at Dale. While they were gone, Harry began restoring Dale. With many well-placed repairing charms, the ruined city began to be whole again. Towers pulled themselves back up to their previous places. Streets cleared of debris and structures were back in place. She lit braziers to show the way to Dale again. It would be a glorious city once more. A few hours had passed since Tauriel had left with Alfrid. Harry could see many dark shapes coming towards Dale. She knew it was Tauriel and many from the town. Tauriel crossed first into the rebuilt city. Her eyes roamed over the newly erected structures. Awe was plain to see on her face.
"My Lady." Tauriel greeted when she saw Harry.
"Thank you very much for bringing them." Harry said and moved forward as people continued to move in.
"Hello everyone." Harry greeted after she used an amplifying charm on her voice.
Over the next half hour Harry explained what she was doing and why. She presented the master shrunken and in a jar for all to see. Bard was shocked that she knew of his history and was giving him back his birthright. She also gave back to the townspeople the treasure the master horded in his home. She also warned them that she would be confronting Smaug much to their terror. She told them to be quick and get their belongings moved as soon as possible. She would erect a barrier over Dale to protect them should Smaug leave the mountain to terrorize them in retribution. After she was finished the people quickly made their way back to the lake. They would pack overnight and begin moving in the morning.
After they had left Tauriel set about getting some food ready. Harry erected a place for them to sleep, with warming charms on the bedding. She also transfigured a few rocks into jars with handles and lids. She cast the bluebell flames charm and filled the jars with the flames so they would have light. She also cast a few protection charms so they could sleep peacefully that night. When she had finished Harry moved over to a balcony that overlooked the way to Mirkwood. Both of her one's were in that direction. Her heart was heavy and ached. She missed them. It had not been a long they had known each other but that was magic for you. You knew then you knew, there was nothing more to it. With a sigh she conjured a couple small pieces of paper and some ink. She quickly scrawled a message on each of them. Harry folded them into the shapes of birds and blew into them. The papers took flight and left for their respective people. Tauriel flashed a bowl in front of her before she could dwell any longer on Thranduil and Thorin. With a grateful smile she took her portion, and they ate in silence.
(Thranduil)
Utter terror filled his heart when he could not find Harry when the dwarves escaped. He was afraid that they had taken her with them as a prisoner. His son, Legolas, went after them quickly. He heard shortly after that Orcs were on his lands. He suited up into his armor to help rid the scourge from his forest. With sword in hand, he charged the blight in his territory. He had slaughtered the last one that came running at him when he saw his son. And he was alone! Legolas was hesitant to tell him where Harry was. But then he did. She had fought the orcs with her magic and with sword. She plowed them down and let the dwarves escape. Tauriel helped her. Then they both just disappeared before him. Thranduil felt a twinge in his heart. Harry had gone into battle without him, she helped the dwarves escape and then she up and left him. He was hurt. He dismissed his son and the other soldiers. He wished to be alone.
Thranduil wandered his halls until he came to Harry's room. There on her pillow he noticed as soon as he entered the room was a letter addressed to him. It was from Harry!
My dearest Thranduil,
I cannot excuse what I have done to you. But it had to be done. The mountain must be retaken by the line of Durin. Smaug must be ended. I am sorry for the pain I am now causing you. It hurts me to do so. I hope that you can forgive me for this transgression. I do wish that you could have come with me but with the stubbornness you carry towards dwarves I knew that you could not. I will not sugar coat this. I am bound to you and to... Thorin. I have a second soul mark. It is on my left arm. I cannot bare to be apart from either of you. I cannot bare for either of you to be hurt. I will face Smaug...
Thranduil did not even finish reading her letter. She was going to face Smaug! On her own! Panic lanced through him. He moved through the halls quickly. With a bellow for his guards and for his son, he met them in the throne room. They were going to save Lady Harry from her quest to go after Smaug.
(Thorin)
The company and himself all continued to flow down the river in the barrels. Away from the wood and from Harry. Thorin was afraid for her. She was quite the warrior yes, but that did not still his fear for her. She killed many orcs to keep them safe.
"Uncle, what are we going to do about Auntie Harry?" Kili asked of him.
"We will save her lad." Dwalin interjected.
"Thorin, Lady Harry gave me a letter to give to you." Bilbo said and pulled a surprisingly dry letter from his sopping wet pocket.
Thorin accepted and opened the letter as they continued down the river.
Thorin, my darling,
I am so sorry for it to be this way. I wish I could escape with you, but I cannot. By time Bilbo gives you this letter I will already be in Lake Town while you are still in the river. Do not be angry with Bilbo, he knew nothing of my plans. I came to Lake Town ahead of you to protect you. I cannot bare to lose you. You or Thranduil. You are both my one's. I have a soul mark for him as well. It is on my ribs. I wish we could have all sat down and spoke about this. But with all the hate between the two of you, we could not. I cannot lose either of you. So, I will be going to Erebor with Tauriel to confront Smaug. You will have your home back, my love. Tell Kili, I will keep Tauriel safe for him.
Lovingly Yours,
Harry
Thorin's temper got away from him. He roared his fear and anger. If it had not been for Bilbo being attached to his barrel, he would have turned it over. Bilbo was afraid. He had no idea what was in that letter. But whatever it was it had flipped Thorin for a loop.
"Uncle!" Fili's voice cut through the air.
"Your Elf and Harry are going to confront Smaug by themselves." Thorin said looking at Kili.
All color drained out of Kili's face. The company was in shock. Bilbo was shaking and it was not from the cold of the river water. He was so upset. If he had just questioned Lady Harry or opened the letter. He could have stopped this before she had gone. He had a feeling something like this would happen.
"We have to hurry!" Kili said and started paddling towards the shore.
Everyone followed after him. They had to get to shore and save the lass from her own self-proclaimed mission.
