AN: I do not own HP or The Hobbit
AN: Sourcewalker - Thank you. I do agree that when you read the story over and over from the very beginning with just an extra character added it can get very stale. I have thought about it. I was toying with the idea of adding Hermione in during the Lord of the Rings arch. But it is just a maybe right now.
Chapter 7 - Smaug
Morning came much sooner than anyone had anticipated. Harry made a quick breakfast as Tauriel gathered up some water for them to clean up and drink. No sooner had they finished their meal and morning ablutions did the voice of Bard come to their ears. He had led the first of the people with their meager belongings and many chickens. Harry had already chosen the new home for Bard and his children. Harry had chosen his ancestor's home. Lord Girion's home would now be Bard's home. It was more than he could have asked for. A chance to restore his family's name. Harry had presented him that chance.
"My Lord." Alfrid called to Bard, running up to him.
"What is it Alfrid?" Bard asked him.
"The mid-wives and the physician wish to know where you would like them to set up at?" he asked.
Bard walked off with Alfrid to help everyone get settled as smooth and as quick as possible. The day wore on Harry and Tauriel had just seen to the last family being settled into the restored city of Dale. Under Bard's leadership the move had been rather smooth. A blessing to all involved. Harry and Tauriel moved around the city as Harry layered her enchantments to help protect the people. They had done nothing to deserve the dragon's ire, so Harry was determined to not allow them to come to harm.
"It is done." Harry said and lowered her wand.
Tauriel nodded at her. The two women gathered up their supplies and headed towards the mountain. It was time to face a dragon. Harry apparated the two of them to the front gate she had seen earlier in the daylight. The gate was blocked by heavy stones and statues. The Dragon had done a number on what Harry could see had once been a grand entry. She began to do many repairing charms and levitation charms to get the ball rolling. By time she had finished the sky was just beginning to lighten in the east.
Tauriel entered first with her bow drawn and at the ready. She was not taking any chances. The smell was atrocious. There was an old smell of rot and decay overlayed with mold, mildew, and something feral. She took that to be the dragon. Harry cast lumos and the bluebell flame charm to get some light in the pitch dark of the mountain. Tauriel led the way. She could hear the subtle breathing of the dragon. His breathing was even so he had not noticed them as of yet. Neither knew how long they had walked when they were suddenly in the treasure hoard.
"Where is he?" Harry whispered to her.
"Probably under all the gold. Dragons wallow in their gold." Tauriel explained.
"Well in that case. Maybe I should make the gold disappear?" Harry mentioned.
"Where?" Tauriel asked.
Harry set her bag down. The one with the undetectable extension charm on it. With a swish of her wand, she cast Accio on the treasure. With a direction of her wand, it sailed into her bag. She and Tauriel waited as the treasure slowly disappeared from the room and into the back. It was not long before they saw the dragon's body. Little by little his large body was uncovered.
"What will you do about him?" Tauriel asked.
"That will be up to him." Harry answered vaguely.
Suddenly Smaug moved. Smoke plumed out of his nostrils and swirled around the room. He was very aware that they were there, and that the gold was disappearing at a steady pace. His great head snapped up and turned towards the calm women. His great body leapt forward to stop the flow of his gold. Harry cut the spell herself and grabbed her bag up. Tauriel and Harry moved out of his way.
"Thieves!" Smaug roared, shaking the whole cavern.
"Good. You're awake." Harry replied.
"Daughter of man." Smaug snarled, "Elf."
"Now that is out of the way; let's chat." Harry said simply.
"Return my gold." Smaug demanded.
"It is not your gold. You stole it first. I am here to take back what you stole." she said and Tauriel flinched.
"I am the greatest of all, I can take what I wish, and no one can oppose me." he boasted and spread his wings.
"You are great but you're not the first dragon I have met. I am not impressed." Harry goaded him.
"You're a liar. I am the last of the Dragons." Smaug said proudly.
"I did not say I met them here." Harry said, "I have travelled a great way. Through time and space to be here before you."
"You died then." Smaug said simply.
"Yes, I did. This is my rebirth. My mission is to defeat you and take back the mountain." Harry answered, "But since you are the last of your kind here, I would rather not kill you."
A loud chuckle escaped Smaug's scaly lips. Harry's words were funny to him. She, the tiny thing, thought she could kill him. Take the gold from him? Take back what he hoarded? And what? Give it back to those miserable dwarves? Not on his life.
"I am impenetrable. My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!" He boasted proudly.
"Yeah, and I am the one that has died three times and yet here I am." Harry announced nonchalant and mocking.
"Let's make it four." Smaug said and leapt forward at them.
Harry threw the conjunctivitis curse right at Smaug's eyes. The result was almost immediate. A great howling roar shook the cave that Tauriel and Harry almost lost their footing. Smaug screamed curses out at the pair. He spat flames out all over the room. Harry and Tauriel were well out of the reach of the flames. He was overwhelmed by the sudden loss of his sight. They watched as he tired himself out. Tauriel stood by Harry with a jar and lid. Harry waited until Smaug opened his mouth to spew more flames when she struck. She sent a shrinking charm right into his mouth. It was a tender place as well as the eyes. Smaug did not feel anything different but Harry and Tauriel saw the difference. At a rapid rate the great dragon shrank down small enough that he could have bathed in a teacup. He really reminded Harry of the size of the drawing dragons that were used when they picked their dragon for the task during the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Harry cast an accio at him and placed him into the jar securely. His little roars were adorable in her opinion. Tauriel was in shock and awe. She truly had expected them to have been injured or eaten. But thankfully that had not been the case.
"Hold him please. I need to get this treasure out of here and get it cleansed from the dragon sickness." Harry announced.
Tauriel did as she had been bid. She watched as Harry did as she wished. Harry was a powerful witch and she made it look so very easy. Tauriel was very thankful that Harry was a good witch at that. She shuddered to think what would happen if her lady was a bad witch and was in line with the darkness.
(Thranduil)
Sat astride his elk, Thranduil led his soldiers forward in search of his queen. When he caught up with Harry, he was not going to let her out of his sight any time soon. He hoped that they caught up with her before she made it to the mountain. The night was fast approaching. They had yet to hear the piercing roar of a dragon so that was good in Thranduil's book. His lady had yet to confront Smaug, the terrible. As they travelled forward the elvish company paused. They could feel magic on the wind. Then there floating towards the king was a little paper bird. Thranduil caught it between his fingers and examined it. Then he opened it. It was from Harry!
She sent a message to him. Letting him know that she was in Dale. She and Tauriel were fine and that she wished for him to find Thorin. She wished for the two to come together and unite for her sake. She did not want to choose between the two of them. They were both her soul mates, and it would tear her apart to pick just one of them. She refused to do so. If they made her choose, she would leave the both of them. Harry would rather be alone than be without one of them. Thranduil felt his eyes water. He could not be alone again. Yes, they had only known each other for a short while but Harry was everything to him already. Quietly, he folded the paper and placed it in his shirt. With a flick of his fingers his men moved forward.
They marched until they broke the tree line that came out to the lake where Lake Town was placed. The sun was breaking over the mountain when a great roar shook the lands. Thranduil felt his heart jump into his throat. Then there was some shouting and low and behold there was Thorin Oakenshield and his company striking out across the field heading for the lake.
(Thorin)
They had not been on the land long when a breeze brought to Thorin a little folded paper bird. The sun was setting, and time was becoming scarce. He had to beat Harry to the mountain. She would not face the dragon on her own. The paper bird fluttered to his palm, and he opened it.
"It's from Harry!" he exclaimed to the others.
Thorin read the note quickly. She and Tauriel were fine. They had made it to Dale. They would go to the mountain soon. She wrote how she missed him and wished that he and Thranduil would resolve their differences. She refused to be without them both. They would either get along or they would not have her. She would not be fought over and would rather be alone than with just one of her soul mates. She was sorry but those were her feelings. They needed to resolve their problems and unite. The time of hate and racism was over.
"What is it Uncle?" Kili asked.
"She and Tauriel are well. They are in Dale." Thorin answered his nephew.
"They are there already?" Dwalin exclaimed.
"Apparently. Harry is a witch remember. She has powers beyond Gandalf's." Thorin answered.
"Aye so it seems." Balin agreed, "We must hurry before the lass's get themselves hurt."
Thorin grunted and they all continued their trek for the mountain. Night turned into the first streaks of morning. Then dawn became the sun peeking over the mountain as they came to the fields between the forest and Lake Town. No sooner did the crest the tree line did an earthshattering roar shake the earth. Thorin felt his blood run cold in his veins. His Harry was in the mountain and the dragon was awake and very angry. A yell sounded from Kili as he struck out across the field. Thorin made no hesitation to streak after him.
The sounds of thundering feet stopped the company short. As they turned to face the adversary behind them, they noticed that it was Thranduil. The elves surrounded them with spears out towards them. They parted for Thranduil to come forward. The King elf came forward and dismounted from his elk.
"Thorin, King under the mountain. I once again come to you with my offer of aid. Not for jewels but for Harry." Thranduil said, holding up a paper bird.
The dwarves rumbled their discontent. But Thorin knew what was going on. Thranduil knew just as he did, that they had to unite, or Harry would be lost to them. She would leave the both of them. And that just would not do. As much as it galled Thorin to do so, he would for Harry, he would swallow his pride and make nice with Thranduil. Harry was everything.
"For Harry, I accept your aid." Thorin said and bowed his head to Thranduil.
AN: I know it is fast paced. There is a lot of info in The Hobbit. It gets really stale when you have to read something over and over again. I make notes in my chapters that there are time jumps. I am not going to write all the little things characters do.
