Chapter 7: Beekeeper
The blue hedgehog walks out of the restaurant, feeling satisfied. "Man, that was an excellent lunch." he thought to himself. "I wonder what I'm doing today."
He walked on the sidewalk. Many people passed by him as if he was a normal civilian, despite him saving the city along with Tails and Dr. Robotnik. Sonic, though, didn't mind at all and walked. However, he would occasionally look around to see the enormous pack of people walking down the street as well.
As he met near an alleyway, he abruptly stopped walking. Suddenly feeling uneasy, he heard screams coming to his left. Turning to the alleyway, he sees 3 high school boys. He eventually looks closer to see one more student, but pinning down a high school girl who has her button-up shirt unhooked, revealing her bra.
"Please, just stop!" The girl hollered.
"Stop squirming!" the boy yelled at her.
Sonic, becoming alerted, walks up to them.
"Let go of me, you pervert!" the girl pleaded.
The boy ignores her and gets close to her neck.
"Hey!" Sonic yelled out furiously. The boys looked up to see the furious hedgehog. "Leave her alone."
The boy pinning down the girl stands up and chuckles. "Oh, look who it is, the savior of this city. No surprise to see you."
"I don't like what I'm seeing right now. So you better stop it."
"Oh, he has a voice. What a strange animal!" One member of the group mocked as the rest of the boys laughed.
Sonic looked behind them to see the terrified high school girl now realizing that the group of men were close to violating her. She hastens herself near a wall and quickly buttons up her shirt. Sonic, feeling sorry for the girl, looks at the men who were responsible and tells them off, "Stay away from her."
"Or else what?" the high school boy mocked. "What're you gonna do about it, you little rat?"
Sonic closes his eyes and clenches his fist. He glares at them. "I'm gonna kick your ass!"
"Oh, so scary," said the boy. "This animal is a waste of ti-"
Abruptly, Sonic punches the boy in the face, which makes him fall to the ground. The group immediately helped him get back up to his feet. As he stands up, however, he notices something coming out of his lip. He touches it to see his hand having small amounts of blood on it.
"You little shit…! You'll pay for that cheap shot!" The infuriated high school boy takes out what appears to be a pocket knife and points it at Sonic. "Come on then, fucker! I'll slit your fucking throat!"
The rest of the other boys were also giving out their fighting stance as a sign that they're ready to fight. Sonic, having no fear, gets ready to fight too. "You first."
The boy charges at Sonic with his knife, who quickly swings his head to the right, avoiding the small blade. He grabs his arm and twists it. Sonic's feet swiftly kick the boy's front stomach, which pushes him back. Kneeling on the ground, holding his arm, he looks up at Sonic.
"Break this idiot!" he commanded.
The other boys ran up to Sonic, about to punch him, but he dashed towards an opening. This suddenly confused the boys.
"Probably you should go faster than that." Sonic mocked.
The 2 boys were becoming annoyed by this response and screamed viciously while sprinting after Sonic. However, because of his speed, he continued to spin around them.
As he stops, Sonic spin-dashed at each of the 4 boys, which made them fall to the ground as soon as his move came in contact with them. One of the boys tries to get up, but gets picked up by Sonic and thrown towards a wall. Sonic charges up his speed and runs at him. He jumps and does a spin dash to his face. Sonic spin-dashes to an opening. Back to his normal form, he looks back at the person. He's finally knocked out. Sonic looks back at another boy, who was watching him and his buddy. Taking out a pocket knife, he ran up to Sonic, but soon after, he dodged it again. Sonic grabs his legs which makes his face hit on the ground.
One boy tried to interfere with him with a punch, but Sonic moved away from it and used his foot to kick his shin. The boy grabs his leg, feeling so much pain, but little does he know he was being grabbed by the blue hedgehog. Sonic looks around until he sees a door. He throws him towards the door, which breaks.
"Wow, what weaklings you are!" Sonic taunted.
Suddenly, he felt himself getting shocked from the back. He collapses in pain. Behind him was the last and final member active, which was the same boy who pinned down the high school girl earlier, stun gun in hand. He turns around to the girl again, slowly walking towards her. Baring his teeth, he waved around the stun gun in a threatening manner.
"Now, spread those legs already." the boy snarled.
The girl became frightened by his looks and actions. She had nowhere to go, and she knew if she had run, he would probably have caught up to her. "Please, I just can't."
The boy ignores him and turns on the stun gun.
"HA!"
Instantly, he feels a force hit his back and drops his stun gun in pain. He kneels down, trying to touch his back. The terrified girl looked up to see the blue hedgehog, who recovered from the stun gun attack. Sonic then kicked the right side of his face, which knocked him to the ground.
"Thought it was a good idea to electrocute me with your taser?" he taunted again. "Pathetic."
Looking around to see if there was anyone that wanted to interfere with his fight, but no one stepped in. He looks back at the girl, who grabs her stuff speedily. She stands up
"Miss? You okay?" Sonic asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Thank you so much!" she said, while taking a quick bow.
"Don't mention it!" Sonic responded. "Stay safe now!"
The girl runs off to the streets while Sonic looked back at the 4 idiots who attempted to harass the girl sexually. One on the ground, one next to a wall, one inside a building, and the other leaning towards a wall. He shakes his head in shame and leaves the alleyway.
He walks to the city of Super Tokyo. He occasionally felt pain on the left side of his neck. "Man, my neck hurts like a bitch." he complained.
As Sonic continued to walk around the city, he came across a vending machine. He walks up to it and sees what drinks there were. There was a Pepsi option. He decided that maybe it's time to get himself refreshed after the fight. Pressing the Pepsi button, it dispensed out of the machine. Sonic grabs it from the compartment and opens the can. He walks towards one of the nearby seats and takes a seat. Taking a quick sip of it, he felt refreshed.
"Ah, that's better." he muttered.
After taking a few more sips, he got up from his seat and continued to walk. Sonic then came across another alleyway. He walks to it and notices nothing suspicious. He did, however, notice how big the alleyway was. It looked like sizeable amounts of space could be used to park cars. He continued to look until he came across stairs leading up to the rooftop. With curiosity, he walks up the 6-floor building using the stairs. As he gets up to the building, Sonic walks around the huge open space of the rooftop. He walks near the edge of the building and looks down at the cars. He glances up at the beautiful view of the city of Super Tokyo. So many tall buildings and partly cloudy afternoon skies.
Suddenly, a notification sound plays. Sonic looks down at his watch and sees that he has gotten a text notification. He unlocks his watch and checks to see who the text it was from.
He looks closely to see that Amy was the one who sent him a text. He expands the notification bar and sees what he texted. It said, "Sonic, where are you right now?"
He texted back vividly. "Chilling in the city."
"Tails wants us to check something out that he built."
"Yeah, that robot thing he was spending his time on."
"Want to check it out?"
"Yeah, sure, why not."
"Okay, I'll see you there, darling!"
Sonic saw the word, "Darling." which made him blush a little, though he shook it off and turned off his watch. While staring at the sky one more time, he turns around and heads back downstairs to the alleyway.
As he got to the main area of the alleyway which leads to the roads, Sonic paused as he had some sort of uncomfortable feeling. A feeling where someone is there.
He turns around before being sent flying into the wall. Trying to stand himself up, he looked up to see a person with dark clothing ahead of him. He had dark black hair and a jacket with a white shirt under it.
"What in the?!" Sonic called out.
The mysterious boy spawned a dark purple particle from his hand. He threw the particle to Sonic, which led him to dodge it. The particle exploded.
"I see… Looking for trouble, huh?" Sonic makes himself prepared for the fight while the boy stands there, staring at him. "Well, you came looking in the wrong place."
Sonic ran at him, the boy likewise.
The boy spawned sharp blades from his hands and dodged his speed. Soon after, he slashes Sonic's left arm. Sonic collides with a wall. He quickly gets up, but notices something off. He looks at his left arm and sees that it's bleeding profusely. Sonic felt an immense amount of pain, which he tried to ignore in order to keep fighting off this new enemy. Sonic again tried to run up to him, but this time he jumped on top of him. He was about to kick him, but the boy grabbed his leg and swung his body around. He jumps up and gets on top of him in an attempt to cut him. Sonic dodges this and attempts to punch him back with his right arm. Quickly, the boy grabs his arm and uses his claws to slash Sonic's right arm. Sonic falls to the ground and feels both of his arms pouring blood. The boy drops to the ground and looks at him with a wicked smile.
"I… won't… lose…" Sonic struggled to say, barely able to get to his feet, his arms numb.
Sonic attempts to run over to him again, but jumps up to kick him in the face. The boy however dodges his attack and uses his claws to slash his abdomen. Sonic falls to the grounds and rolls towards one of the walls. He tries to stand back up, but struggles horribly.
The boy walked up to him. Mustering up his remaining bit of strength, Sonic runs up to him and uses his injured left hand to throw a punch. The boy simply caught the fist and gripped his arm. Afterwards, he threw him towards a nearby wall.
Sonic tries to stand up, leaning against the wall for leverage, but he quickly collapses. Meanwhile, the boy strides forward, watching the hedgehog move to a seated position, his back against the wall.
"Who… are you?" Sonic groaned, clutching his body.
"A walking catastrophe. May your reality collapse." The boy gave one last wicked smile before he reared his claw back and thrust it forward.
However, a rope suddenly ties around his arm, halting his decisive blow. He turns around and sees a strange cat girl holding the other end of the rope. She pulls the rope, pulling him forward towards her. The girl runs up to him and jumps up, unleashing a double dropkick. This was Sonic's chance to move away from him. He sees an open spot and dashes toward it. The boy gets back up and sees that Sonic has moved. All of a sudden, he turns back again to see the same girl running up to him. She jumps up from her spot and aims her punch. However, the dark boy slashed at her. Fortunately, she sways her body away from the blades and throws a fist; the punch colliding with his face. The boy falls to the ground.
The girl too lands on the ground and sees the almost dying hedgehog. She runs up to the hedgehog and protects him from the dark. The boy stands up and looks at both Sonic and the girl. He stares at them for a few seconds before disappearing, leaving behind a purple smokescreen. The girl, feeling relieved, looks at Sonic, who looked like he'd been through hell. His arms and chest were carved up with claw marks. On top of that, blood was also leaking from his mouth.
The girl gave a relieved sigh, but her eyes widened as she realized he was slowly losing consciousness. For his part, Sonic fought to stay awake, but the darkness eventually consumed him. He had two final thoughts before he drifted off. The first was his worries regarding his friends. The second thought wondered who exactly this mysterious girl with the red dress was, given that she'd at least helped him. As soon as he knew it, he closed his eyes…
Sonic slowly opened his eyes to see a bright light shining on his face. He tried to get up, but felt immense pain in his body. Looking down at his own front body, he noticed that his body was wrapped in bandages. He took a glance at his arms, realizing that both had also been covered with bandages. Only then, he remembered the previous fight with his mysterious attacker.
"Oh! Thank goodness you're awake."
The same cat that had helped in the fight before was sitting on a chair next to his bed.
"Where am I?" Sonic asked.
"You're in Super Tokyo University Hospital. Someone attacked you, so I saved you. You… nearly died, so I had to bring you to the emergency room…"
"Oh… thanks."
Sonic tries to move around so he can lean on the bed frame. Though it was pretty painful, he did it with help from the cat girl.
However, she expresses her worries as she helps him: "Don't push yourself so soon! You just woke up."
"I-I'm fine. I just need to call someone." Though grateful, he waves away her anxiousness.
"That's fine, I guess."
Sonic tries to move his left arm so that the watch is visible to him. He turns it on and begins contacting his best friend, Tails.
"Sonic?! Where have you been?! You weren't answering mine or Amy's calls!" Tails panicked.
Sonic explained himself: "I'm in the hospital right now."
"The hospital?! Are you okay?! What happened?!"
"Mind coming for a visit? I can explain everything after you get here."
"B-but-!"
Sonic cut off his friend before he could continue panicking, "Tails, calm down! Take a deep breath."
Tails had no choice but to try and calm himself down. From his watch, Sonic could hear his friend taking a few deep breaths, attempting to steady his breathing. "Okay…" his voice came through after a while, significantly less agitated. "Yeah, I'm calmer now. L-later?"
"When you get to the hospital."
"Got it. We're coming over right now."
"We're?"
"We'll see you there!"
Tails hangs up, leaving Sonic a bit confused on the "we're" part. Sonic turns to the cat girl, who was waiting for him to finish.
"Was that your friend?" she asked.
"Yeah. His name is Tails."
"I see. You two must be close."
"He's my best friend." Sonic chuckled. "Speaking of which, I haven't properly introduced myself. The name's-"
"Sonic, right?"
Sonic paused. "Uh… yeah. That's it. How did you…?"
"Oh! Um…" Honey blushed, having cut him off. "They were broadcasting you, your friend Tails, and Dr. Robotnik in your fight against those robots. They mentioned your name in passing. Plus…" She meekly gestured to Sonic's watch, "Your friend was loud. It was kinda hard not to overhear him mention your name."
Sonic could only chuckle, "Good point."
For a moment, the two were silent before Honey spoke up once more, "Say… this is a bit of a strange question, but… do I look familiar to you?"
Sonic's eyes glinted in confusion. He tried to recall if he'd ever seen this girl, but he failed, so he shook his head. "Nah, not really. Why?"
"N-no?" Her face was somewhat crestfallen. "Not even a little?"
"Sorry, but who are you?"
"I'm Honey. Honey the Cat. Remember?"
"Honey? Yeah, I think I've heard that name before, but you're really not ringing any bells here."
"I remember you, though. We were friends. We used to fight each other all the time."
"Huh…"
Sonic has so many questions right now. At first, he was just wondering why the person who attacked him wanted to kill him. Now, he also wants to know who this Honey the Cat is. She truly felt familiar to him, but he just couldn't understand why that was. "I mean…" he eventually continued on, "I kinda recognize you, but at the same time, I don't."
That he found her familiar was a very good sign. Therefore, she persisted, "Do you remember what we said after the Junior Mobius Tournament?"
"Junior Mobius Tournament? Not really. From what I know, I went to the tournament and got my ass kicked by…" Sonic pauses for a bit before he remembers his subsequent past.
Flashback… 6 years ago…
Back then, Sonic and Honey were both 12 years old. Still growing and still living their lives in Mobius.
It was the day of the Junior Mobius Tournaments. The hedgehog only got himself to 2nd place while the cat got 1st place. After the tournament, Sonic was outside, sitting on a bench watching the beautiful sunset.
"Hey, dork."
Sonic turns to see Honey in front of him. "Hello, winner. How's your congratulation party?"
"It sucks."
"Agree. The same thing happened to me as well. You know, it's gonna be hot tomorrow. Nothing special than just sitting around and being with friends."
The blue hedgehog stares at the sunrise while Honey seems to be depressed over something. Sonic turns to her and expresses his worries. "You okay, Honey? You look like you're down in the dumps."
"I don't know if I should tell you this, but after this tournament and graduation party, I have to move to Super Tokyo City."
"Super Tokyo City?! That's another planet away!"
"I know, but I have to go there in order to start a career in fashion. I know I'm young, but once I turn 16, I have to start it. This means I also have to leave behind all this tournament stuff at this age."
"But you're 12. You shouldn't let this thing control you at this age."
"Sonic, I'm passionate about this. This is my dream."
"Okay, I guess. If that's what you want."
"Sonic, if there was a chance for you to visit Super Tokyo, can you please come to see me?"
"Sure. I can try if I go fast enough"
Honey looks down at her watch and sees the time. "Sonic, I think I have to go now. It's getting dark."
"Okay. I guess we'll see each other tomorrow before you go, right?"
"Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow, I guess."
"Well, it's nice seeing you around."
Honey the cat gets up from the bench and walks away while Sonic does the same thing, but goes in the other direction. He then stopped walking and turned behind him. "Hey before we part ways, how about one last fight off?"
Honey also turns around and gives out a smile. "Sure."
Both get ready from their positions before they run at each other and…
"I remember now. So you're Honey the Cat? The girl that managed to kick my ass before she left the city, right?"
Honey smiles. "Of course! You remember now!"
"Oh my god! I didn't know that this same girl was you all along."
"I didn't change a bit. What are you talking about?"
Sonic chuckles out of embarrassment. "Sorry,"
Honey giggled at Sonic's response. "Anyways Sonic, I heard you moved here to Super Tokyo a few months ago. I didn't have the time to meet you so, what are you doing now?
"Well, you know, the usual stuff. Stoppin' the egghead and being a hero. Nothing much has changed. How about you? How is the fashion design thing going?"
"It's going pretty well. It's really not that easy, you know."
"Huh…" Sonic begins to giggle.
Honey looked confused."What's so funny?"
"No, it's just we meet again in the worst way possible."
"Oh."
Subsequently, the door opens. Sonic and Honey turn to see a panicked Tails and Amy.
"Sonic, oh my god what happened?!" worried Tails.
Sonic sighed. "Tails, don't worry, I'm fine. I'm just a bit injured, okay?"
"Sonic, please tell us what exactly happened," Amy replied to his response.
Sonic sighed once more before he started telling. "I was attacked while I was in the city. But thankfully I got saved.
"Who's this cat girl I'm seeing right now?" Amy wondered.
"Well Tails and Amy, please meet Honey the cat. The girl who nearly saved my life and a friend of mine back then."
Honey went up to Honey the cat and shook her hand. "Thank you so much for saving my Sonic from danger. Without you, he would've died and I risk that."
Sonic soon interrupted their conversation. "Oh, I forgot to mention. She was the winner of the Mobius Junior Fighting Tournament years ago and a fashion designer for a company."
"Oh my god, you're more famous than I thought." Amy complemented Honey.
"Yeah, thanks."
"Honey, I have an important question. Why were you the one to save Sonic even though you don't see him that much?"
Honey starts to feel flustered. "I kinda want to keep that a secret."
"Why?"
Honey puts her arms behind her back and starts looking away. "Just... you know…"
Soon after, the door opens revealing Sonic's doctor.
"Ah, I see your friend has woken up. Well, it's about time since I have some news to inform you. But first, let me check your heart rate." The doctor takes the stethoscope from her neck and places the diaphragm on Sonic's chest. After a few seconds, she put the stethoscope around her neck and took out the pen that was on the clipboard. She began writing the results on the paper. The doctor looks at Sonic's body once more and nods.
"So doctor, what happened?" Tails asked.
"First off Sonic, you've lost a lot of blood. If it weren't for your cat friend, you would've not made it. I personally want to thank your friend here for saving your life."
Sonic chuckles. "Yeah…"
"Is Sonic going to be okay?" Amy quizzed.
"Indeed. The slashes that are all around his body are temporary. Though he lost a lot of blood, there are no signs of internal injuries. The slash marks will go away in around a month or so."
"Does that mean I won't be able to run around the city?" Sonic expressed his concern.
"I mean, I suggest you rest up because any strenuous activity could reopen your wounds. I also suggest that you keep those bandages for about 2 weeks after recovery."
"Then, doctor, is it possible for him to be discharged?" Tails asked once more.
"Well… I suppose he could be discharged today. It depends on Sonic."
Sonic begins to think about whether he should leave the hospital. As much as he needed to rest up in the hospital, he wanted to hang out in Tail's place since it eased his worries. "I guess I'd like to be discharged today."
"Are you sure you're not going to rest up in the hospital?" Honey asked, worried.
"Nah, I got other plans."
Amy and Tails stare at him in disbelief, unamused. Sonic quickly adds on to his response, "Well, of course, no strenuous activity."
Both of them nodded in approval and looked at the doctor.
"Thank you so much for your help, Doctor," Tails said.
"No problem! I'll go ahead and let the front desk know to discharge you today." The doctor walks towards the door and leaves the room.
Sonic started to think. He's about to get discharged from the hospital, but he's still thinking about the person attempting to kill him. Memories continue to flow as Sonic starts to mentally stew with anger. Of course, he kept this emotion from his friends.
Meanwhile…
The person who attacked Sonic spawned in the same unnamed location that Katsuro was in. He was feeling very bitter about the sudden appearance of the cat girl, Honey, and not being able to assassinate his target, Sonic the Hedgehog.
"Hoka!" a voice called out his name. Behind him was another member of his group, walking up to him with an infuriated look.
"What do you want? Don't you see I'm about to talk to the master?"
"So you can get out of what happened? Don't think I'm dumb enough to not know. You failed one simple task, and that was ending the life of Sonic the Hedgehog."
"And? I can try again."
"Really now? Do you honestly think that you can do it again now that he has people accompanying him at all times?"
"Yes. I could!"
"And what will happen after that? Escape again?"
"I only escaped this time so that way I can keep myself safe from being noticed."
The boy laughs at his response. "Seriously?! You could've killed that cat bitch too in a simple fight! Hell, I could've done it in 3 simple hits and I'm a mid member too, for god sakes!"
"Don't you patronize me!"
"Go ahead and cry! What're you gonna do about it?!"
"Why you-!" Hoka raised up his claws before…
"Hey!"
Both turn to see their teammate standing there watching their argument.
"Oh, well, look who it is. If it isn't this failure's little pet… You ain't part of this conversation, Kazane, so butt out!" the boy growled.
Kazane sighs. "What a pointless argument… You guys should just stop fighting over something this stupid."
"Tell that to Masaru!" Hoka screamed.
"Tsk… whatever," the mysterious boy mentioned as Masaru walks off. The girl named Kazane walks up to Hoka.
"What happened anyway?" she asked.
Hoka sighs. "Nothing, just go deal with your own business." He also walks away, leaving a confused Kazane behind.
