Last time: The family threw a celebration for the new Jedi Knights.
Now: Viran and Oppie take off on a mission and Kyr has a very interesting one for Sasha.
Chapter 5- Off on Missions
A few weeks later Oppie was carrying his duffel onto the Forerunner, excited to get out of the house again. They had a mission that needed him and Viran; Viran's piloting skills, and their Jedi insight to handle some situation or other on some mining settlement in the Outer Rim. Kyr's network of contacts had been giving them a steady stream of jobs as problem solvers, dispute resolutionists, and occasionally Kyr still had to go off on more… militant missions. But they were performing the job of Jedi, and they were in a galaxy where that was allowed. And it was still a surprise to Oppie every time they got to go do that, even if it had been more than a year since the Empire had become a distant memory to them.
Viran was already on board the Forerunner and was getting the ship ready for take off when Oppie arrived. The younger man looked over to Oppie as he came on board.
"Hey, Op, ready to go?" Viran asked as he warmed the engines up.
"Yeah." He looked around the ship. "It feels weirdly empty, going off in this ship without Sasha."
"Yeah, I noticed that too," Viran commented as he turned in his chair. "But hey, this means she won't be there to nag us from having fun." He joked.
Oppie chuckled, "Yeah." He said, then he started trying to think of anything fun they couldn't do because Sasha wasn't there, and his mind came up blank.
"Can't think of anything either, huh?" Viran asked, practically reading his mind as Viran made an expression that said he came up blank as well.
"Are you two talking about me?" Sasha's voice sounded from the ramp to the ship.
Viran chuckled as he rose from his seat and entered into the main compartment. "I swear it's scary how you do that."
"Do what?" She asked, confused.
"Know exactly what we are doing and what we are talking about," Viran stated as he folded his arms across his chest.
Sasha smiled at them. "It's what I do," she said then chuckled. "Anyway, are you sure you guys don't need me on this job with you?"
"No, we should be fine." Oppie answered. "This will give you a chance to rest a little. Viran and I can handle this."
She frowned at that. "I have one bad day of dizzy spells and I'm sidelined from missions."
Viran came over to her and placed a kiss on her forehead. "It's been more like a few days. You should really be resting right now," he said worriedly.
"I wanted to see you guys off," Sasha said, her smile slowly coming back. "But I promise to rest once you guys get going."
"Well we will see you in about two weeks time and then we will go on a mission together again, alright?" Viran said simply as he hugged her close.
Sasha sighed. "Alright, fine. Just promise to come back in one piece you two," she said as she pointed at both Viran and Oppie after she pulled away from her husband.
"I promise," Viran said defensively as he threw his hands up.
"Op?" Sasha asked, looking over to him.
"I'll be careful." He promised. "And you take it easy. No more chili. In fact, don't ever eat Kyr's cooking again"
Sasha nodded. "Don't worry, I already plan to make our meals for the next couple weeks while you guys are gone. Especially since I'm going to be stuck with him for that time. And yeah," she rubbed at her stomach as if it hurt. "I don't know what he put in that chili that disagreed with me so much, but that's what I get for eating the leftovers of it."
Oppie grunted. "Yeah, no that chili did not agree with me at all either. And I like spicy stuff, usually." Viran nodded in agreement to that statement. Oppie then looked at her with a smile. "Take care of yourself too. We'll see you in a little bit."
"I will," Sasha said as she came over to give Oppie a hug good-bye. She then turned her attention to Viran as Oppie made his way to the cockpit. He pulled her in for a tight hug and loving kiss.
"See you soon," Viran whispered to her. "I love you."
"I love you too," she said, giving him one last kiss before pulling away and descending the ramp.
Viran waved her off as he headed into the cockpit and joined Oppie. Sitting down in the pilot's chair, Viran closed the ramp and pulled the Forerunner up and out of the hangar, off on their adventure.
Kyr wandered through the house trying to find Sasha, a few days after the boys had left. He'd just gotten a message for a small mission, something that wasn't really up his alley, but she'd be able to handle it. He looked in the living room, and he cheated, using infrared vision in his helmet to glance through and see if he could see her, or her foot prints, but no evidence of her remained. He wandered down to the hangar, and didn't see anything there. She hadn't been in her room. It was probably too cold for her to be outside. He stopped. Putting his hands on his hips, and trying to think where she might have disappeared to.
He wandered down to the medbay, in case she was in there reorganizing supplies. Nope, not there either.
He went up stairs, past the rows of armor and weapons on display, and pulled back a beskar pike that had belonged to his great great great great great aunt twice removed. Her armor swung out, and he stepped into the secret library room with various books and actual parchment documents. She had been so angry when she had discovered this incredible room existed after living in the house for months, he'd been happy to be in his armor that time. But no, she wasn't in here either.
He stepped out, as the hidden door swung shut. There was one place he hadn't looked, but he couldn't imagine she'd be in there.
He was quite surprised to see her in the training room. The racks of melee weapons and the shooting range beyond completely unused. She was just sitting in the middle of the room, meditating. Jetii, he thought with a tiny hint of disgust.
"Hey Sash'ika, got a message from a friend for a little job they need help with real quick. Some guy claiming to be a Force user and using his jetii magic to help people, and charging a bunch of money for it. He thinks they're a fake. Want in?"
Sasha opened her eyes and looked up at him with a big smile. "Yes, please!" She said as she climbed to her feet. "I need to get out of this house and I could use a mission."
"Okay, I'll be ready to go in an hour or two. Tac's getting the Shadow up and running," he hoped she noticed the pun on the Shadow Runner's name, "should only be a week and a half or so out and back."
"Sounds great," Sasha said as she adjusted her tunic. "Let me go get a bag together and I'll meet you in the hanger."
"Okay." He said as he turned to go down to the hangar to help Tac.
Sasha followed him out of the training room, but she turned and headed for her shared suite with Viran. As soon as she got there, she pulled out a small bag and packed away the essentials for the trip. It took her no time at all to pack the small bag. So she then decided to change into her Jedi attire as she had only been wearing a loose tunic and leggings before. Once she was dressed and ready to go, Sasha gathered her bag from the bed and headed for the door.
However, she didn't get far when suddenly she felt a strange wave of nausea hit her. She stopped in her tracks and took a moment to see if it would pass by. After a moment though, it did not pass. In fact, whatever was existing in her stomach was now heading up. Sasha dropped her bag and rushed for the bathroom. She barely made it to the toilet before she retched everything out.
After a few moments of that, Sasha sat, resting against the toilet, shaking. Tears streamed down her face and her throat burned from the bile she had just thrown up.
"No, no, no…" She pleaded in a whisper.
She could not be sick again. After Kyr's attempt at chili, everyone had felt so queasy and nauseous for days afterward due to the amount of spice Kyr used. Sasha had taken the worst of it as it had made her nearly sick for days as she couldn't handle spicy food to save her life. But that was weeks ago. Sitting there, Sasha went through everything she ate in the last forty-eight hours and everything she thought of, she had made. Was there maybe a stomach bug going around in town when she visited a couple days ago? Potentially. She sat there a little longer than she was wanting to, trying to figure out what was causing the sudden sickness.
Sasha pulled herself to her feet, cleaned up the bathroom, and then proceeded to clean out her mouth with water and toothpaste. She stood at the sink for at least five minutes brushing away the taste of bile. Once she was sure her mouth was clean, she returned to the bedroom, grabbed her bag, and left for the hangar. The entire walk there, Sasha did her best to calm her nerves as she still wasn't quite sure what caused her sudden stomach illness. But she knew that Kyr couldn't know or else she would be stuck at home again. So she took a deep breath and entered into the hanger, her bag slung across her chest.
"No! This one goes here, THAT one goes there." He said to Tac, who was beeping at him belligerently. "Well it's my ship beskar'ad. Where's Reggie anyway?" He groused, looking around for Tac's Kittehcat. Tac warbled at him annoyedly. "Well I don't use your full number do I?" Tac sent him a binary raspberry. "Fine. Where is R-E-G-G-I-E Dash zero two?" He asked, with an annoyed look.
Sasha chuckled as she approached the ship. "Did the cat escape again?"
"Yeah." He said, looking around for a trace of where the little white fluff ball had gone. "Well she should be fine, she's got her food and water, right?" He said, looking at the droid.
Tac warbled worriedly.
"Well go fill it then, she should be good while we're gone." He looked over at Sasha. "You ready as soon as he gets done with Regina part two, the wayward kittehcat?"
"Alright, sounds good," Sasha said as she cleared her throat, still feeling the burning from earlier lingering. "I'm just going to get on board and drop my stuff off." She then proceeded towards the ramp of the ship.
Once on board, Sasha walked over to the usual compartment she left her stuff in. She chuckled when she saw the little white cat curled up on her bunk.
"Hey, Kyr?" She called back towards the ramp. "Found her."
