Chapter 8- Positive

There was another day of travel left, and Kyr was kind of bored in the cockpit. He was also feeling a little peckish. It was almost lunch time anyway, so he got up. Heading back to the lounge, passing through the connecting tube. He looked over, and saw Tac and Sasha playing dejarik. He passed through, going to the small galley. He perused the offerings available and grabbed a bag of pepper flakes, opening them and enjoying the burn in his sinuses as he inhaled the strong odor, before heading back through the lounge.

"What is that smell?" Sasha asked as her face contorted as if she smelled something bad.

"Pepper flakes, want some?" He asked as he reached in and popped one in his mouth.

Shaking her head, Sasha stood from her seat and took off for the bunk room refresher, a hand clasped over her mouth.

Kyr watched her go, and then looked down at the bag as he finished munching, then back up the hallway she had just disappeared down. Then he ate another pepper flake and threw the bag away so the smell wouldn't bother her again. "Was she okay before?" He said, looking at Tac.

Tac whistled a binary shrug. And took the opportunity to make his move.

Kyr waited a few minutes and then went back to the guest bunks where she was staying. He knocked on the open door frame to the bunk room, where the refresher door beyond was closed. "Sash'ika, you okay?" He asked.

After another moment that sounded like more vomiting, a whimper came from the door before a verbal response.

"No…" She whimpered from the refresher.

"I'll be back in a second." He turned and went down the corridor to the cabinet that held all the medical supplies aboard. He was glad that Sasha did such an obsessive job of keeping them stocked. He looked through the supplies before finding something to help with nausea, and took it back to her, knocking on the doorframe again.

"I got something that should help if you want." He said.

The door to the refresher opened, revealing a very shaky and pale Sasha with tears staining her cheeks.

He handed her the two tablets. "I'm sorry." He said.

"It's okay," Sasha said in a very low and shaky voice. "Thanks." She then took the tablets and swallowed them down with a bit of difficulty. Once they were down, Sasha made her way over to her bunk and sat down on the edge, putting her head in her hands.

Tac wheeled over to the doorway, and looked like he was about to ask about resuming the game, but for once the little droid kept quiet.

Kyr sat down on the bunk opposite her. "This bug has been affecting you for a little while now." He observed quietly.

"I don't know what is going on," Sasha moaned. "It just started happening before this trip out of the blue. I still can't figure out what is causing this." She shuddered. "Kyr, I'm scared. I don't know what is happening to me."

"It's okay Sash'ika." He said, reaching across and putting a hand on her knee before bringing it back to clasp both hands in front of him. He looked at her, a possibility already in his mind but he wasn't sure how to broach the subject. He started thinking of her symptoms, and speaking out loud. "The last few days you've been pretty nauseous, you've seemed very tired, and forgive me, but a little sensitive, emotionally." He said quietly. "If it was another woman with those symptoms, what might you think it was?" He asked.

Sasha sat there, staring at the floor as she appeared to be putting those pieces together. After a moment, realization dawned on her. She was pale before, but now she was as white as a sheet. A shaky hand went to her mouth.

"Kyr… are you suggesting I'm…" The word struggled to leave her lips. "Pregnant?" She asked, visibly shaking.

"Maybe." He said softly. "And that wouldn't be a bad thing."

"No, but…" She swallowed for a moment. "I don't know how to be a mother. And are you even sure? I mean I could have come down with something," she rambled. "There has to be a way to find out for sure, right?"

"Sash'ika, this something that's new to me too. But I know you will be a wonderful mother if that's what's going on." He said quietly. "Let me go get one of the med scanners, they have it as a blood test, I'm sure." He said, standing up, and leaving the room with a glance behind him to see if she was okay.

Sasha nodded and watched him go before sitting back on her bunk.

He came back a minute later, and he held the scanner out so that she could take it. He had already dug through the menus to select the test for her. Sasha took the scanner from him and looked down at the screen. Taking a shaky breath, she rolled up sleeve and placed the scanner head against her forearm. A clicking noise was heard as it took its sample from her causing her to wince slightly at it. Once it was done, she pulled the scanner away from her arm and stared down at the screen as it processed the scan. After a moment, the screen changed to show the results of the test. Sasha's jaw dropped slightly staring at the screen, her voice escaping her.

Seeing her reaction he knew what the results were without having to look at the screen. He sat down next to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Congratulations." He said, with a quiet smile. "You will be a wonderful mother, and Viran will be a wonderful father."

Fresh tears fell down her cheeks as a smile broke from her lips. "I can't believe it. I'm actually pregnant." She looked up at Kyr. "How do you think Viran will react?" She asked somewhat seriously.

He looked at her and tried to suppress a chuckle. "He will be shocked, but he will be happy. Don't worry about it."

Sasha nodded. She then set the scanner down before reaching out with a hesitant hand for her stomach. She placed it over her still flat belly and felt a strange spark suddenly from the Force. From the child within her. A gasp escaped her lips as she smiled. She then turned and wrapped her arms around Kyr.

"Thank you," she said.

He hugged her back and said nothing, but he was smiling, happy for her. And simply happy.
