Finding Finneon Chapter 5 The Drop Off

(As Mantine glides through the reef, Finneon and the class take in all the wondrous sights. Mantine Sings).
Mantine: Oh, let us name the species, the species, the species. Let us name the species that live in the sea. There's porifera, coelenterata, hydrozoa, scyphozoa, Anthozoa, Ctenophora, Bryozoas, three! Gastropoda, Arthropoda, echinoderma, and a fish like you and me. Come on, sing with me. Oh... (Finneon Says in Awe).
Finneon: Cool...
Mantine: Just the girls this time. (Continues singing). Oh, seaweed is cool. Seaweed is fun. It makes its food with the rays of the sun... (Mantine dives down and sails above a seaweed. As a water type Pokémon swims by the group, Mantine is settling on a sandy patch as the cheering kids tumble off his back). Okay, the Drop-off. All right, kids, feel free to explore but stay close ― (Mantine gasps). Stromalitic cyanobacteria! Gather! (The class gathers around Mantine as he scrutinizes a tiny floating particle). An entire ecosystem contained in one infinitesimal speck! There are as greater protein pairs contained in this one bacterium as all the grains of sand in the entire ocean. (Lanturn privately nudges Chinchou and Horsea).
Lanturn: Come on, let us go.
Mantine: Come on, sing with me! (Mantine sings). There's porifera, coelentera, hydrozoa, scyphozoa, Anthozoa, Ctenophora, Bryozoas, three. Mollusca and gastropoda, Arthropoda... (Finneon catches sight of Lanturn, Chinchou, and Horsea sneaking away. Curious, he follows them through the brush-like coral polyp, out the other side).
Finneon: Hey guys, wait up! (Finneon stops at the edge of the Drop-off. The reef falls sharply into the open waters of the deep: an empty ominous blue void. Anything could be out there. All four kids are riveting on the murky depths). Cool...
Lanturn: Saved your life! (Lanturn pushes Chinchou out, then pulls her right out. She screams and Accidentally Zaps itself. Chinchou says Embarrassed).
Chinchou: Aw, you all! You made me Zap Myself! (As Lanturn and Horsea begin laughing, Finneon notices something).
Finneon: What is that? (Chinchou, Horsea, and Lanturn then gaze at a dive boat, anchored a hundred feet out. It floats high above on the water's surface).
Lanturn: I know what that is ― oh, oh! Pyukumuku saw one. He said it was... a butt!
Chinchou: Wow. That is a noticeably big butt. (Horsea surprises the others by suddenly leaping out into the open water).
Horsea: Oh, look at me, I am going to go touch the butt! (He sneezes and is propelling further out into the deep. He races back to the edge, as the others laugh). Oh, yes? Well, let us see you get closer.
Chinchou: Okay. (Swims out just a touch farther than Horsea). Beat that! (Lanturn takes the dare even farther. All three look back at Finneon).
Lanturn: Come on, Finneon! How far can you go?
Finneon: Oh, um... my dad says it is not safe.
Lumineon: Finneon, no!
Finneon: -Dad? (Finneon Grunts)
Lumineon: You were about to swim into open water!
Finneon: No, I was not gonna go.
Lumineon: It was just a good thing I was here. If I have not shown up, I do not know...
Chinchou: Sir, he was not gonna go!
Lanturn: Yeah, he was too afraid!
Finneon: -No, I was not!
Lumineon: -This does not concern you, kids. And you are lucky I do not tell your parents you were out there. You know you cannot swim well!
Finneon: And I can swim fine, Dad, okay?
Lumineon: No, it is not okay. You should not be anywhere near here. Okay, I was right. Do you know what? You will start school in a year or two.
Finneon: No, Dad! Just because you fear the ocean...
Lumineon: And clearly, you are not ready, and you are not coming back until you are. You think you could do these things, but you just cannot, Finneon!
Finneon: Well, I hate you. (Mantine Says Singing).
Mantine: There's... (Mantine Stops singing Nothing to see. Come on, kids. Gather, uh, over there. Excuse me, is there anything I do? Well, I am a scientist. Uh, is there any problem?
Lumineon: You know, I am sorry. I did not mean to interrupt things. He is not a good swimmer... and I just bet it is a little too soon for him to be out here unsupervised. (While they talk, Finneon looks out to the anchored boat, before glaring at his father, as if he is planning to do something).
Mantine: Well, I can assure you he is quite safe with me.
Lumineon: Look, I am sure he is. But you have a large class, and he can go astray, you know, from sight if you are not looking, I am not saying you are not looking ― You are looking... (Goldeen, a gawky little girl fish in the class, points out to the deep).
Goldeen: Oh, my gosh! Finneon's swimming out to sea! (Everyone turns to see Finneon in the open water, already half-way out to the anchored boat. He zigzags with slow determined strokes).
Lumineon: Finneon! What do you think you are doing? (Lumineon rushes to the edge but is too afraid to go further). You are going to get stuck out there, and I will have to get you before another fish does! (Finneon ignores him, with his eyes locked on the boat). Get back here! Hey, I said get back here, now! Stop! Finneon stops under the boat and stares back at Lumineon). You take one more move, mister... (Finneon holds out his fin). D-you do not dare ― If you put one fin on that boat... are you listening to me? DON'T ― TOUCH ― THE ― BOA ― (Finneon defiantly slaps the bottom of the boat). Finneon! (Lanturn Whispers).
Lanturn: He touched the butt. (Finneon begins his long swim back to the Drop-off).
Lumineon: You just paddle your little tail back here, Finneon. That is right. You are in big trouble, young man. Do you hear me? Big... (While heading back to the Drop-off, Finneon rolls his eyes at Lumineon, when a diver slowly rises from behind him. Everyone sees it ― except Finneon. Lumineon opens his mouth, but nothing comes out. Chinchou shrieks. Finneon finally looks back to see his reflection in the mask of the diver. He screams in terror).
Finneon: Daddy! Help me!
Lumineon: I am coming, Finneon!
