Twilight hears voices as she wakes up on Princess Celestia's warm back, her wings wrapped around her.
"...must be able to do something." Princess Luna pleads, surprising Twilight, to her, the dark blue pony isn't as talkable as her elder sister, but here she is pleading with a doctor.
"I'm sorry, your highnesses, there's nothing we can do, we've tried everything, he's simply given up." The doctor says mournfully. Twilight gasps, alerting the two princesses, the doctor and her friends to her consciousness. Luna gently grabs Twilight by the scruff of the neck and puts her down between Luna and Celestia who each wrap on their wings around her.
A tan pony looks at the purple pony with a sad smile.
"Twilight, I'm Doctor Heart, I'm sorry to tell you that your brother has died, there's nothing we can do, I'm sorry but he's gone." Twilight blinks and shakes her head. "No he's not!" She shouts, looking at the pony with disgust. The doctor looks at the princess before walking away from the group.
"Sugercube, we're gonna go back to the castle so y'all can talk, okay?" Applejack says, Twilight nods before leaning into Princess Celestia, watching as her friends leave her with the two princesses. "Twilight, my beloved student, I need you to listen to me, have I ever lied to you before?" The Sun princess asks, Twilight shoes her head. "No, I don't think so, Princess." The purple pony says. Princess Celestia nods. "So please believe me when I tell you that your parents and Shining Armor are gone, me and Luna are so sorry, Twilight." The sun Princess says, Twilight wraps her front hoofs around the white pony, who does the same, allowing Twilight's tears to soak her fur. Princess Luna also pats the pony's back.
After crying for a few minutes into Princess Celestia, Twilight straightens up and wipes her muzzle before looking at the eldest princess, her cheeks reddening in embarrassment.
"So what happens now that my family is gone?" The lavender pony asks in a quiet voice. Princess Luna sighs. "Well me and Celestia need to talk to you about something important, but it can wait for a few days, but right now, we're going to go back to the castle." Princess Luna says as she agrees with Shining Armor, Twilight nods mutley before walking away the princesses on her tail.
Canterlot castle is just like how she remembers it, tall, white and gold. Twilight sighs as she follows the two princess sisters to a circular room that is familiar to the lavender pony.
The room has a fire, a desk, bookshelves full of books, a round king size bed with a light pink comforter with matching pillows and blankets: Princess Celestia's personal study. Twilight smiles, remembering g when she spent the night in here with the Sun princess when she was a filly and couldn't sleep, she remembers lying beside Celestia, so close their fur touched, remembers how Celestia sung her to sleep, wrapping her white wings around her as the young filly fell asleep.
Oh, how Twilight wants to relive that night when her parents were back home and her brother was away at Canterlot Academy, while she was sleeping in the protective embrace of the ruler of Equestria
"Go ahead, Twilight." The Sun princess says with a smile, her pink eyes on the round bed. Twilight looks at Celestia with a confused look on her face. "Excuse me?" The lavender pony asks, Princess Celestia chuckles before gently picking Twilight up by the scruff of her neck and carrying her to the bed, settling her in the middle, while the two princesses lay on either side of her, each cwrapping a coloured wing around her.
Twilight sighs as she lays her head on her hooves, tears leaking from her eyes. She feels a muzzle between her ears, nuzzling her gently, she knows it the midnight coloured princess as her older sister has started singing the same lullaby she sang all those years ago that night she was a filly.
"Can you tell me that important thing now?" Twilight asks in a tired voice. She's sleepy again but wants to hear the important thing that the two sisters want to talk to her about.
"All right," Princess Celestia says. "while you were asleep in Shining Armor's bed, he told me that if should anything happen to him or your parents they would like me to adopt you and become your new mother." Princess Celestia says quickly. Twilight's head shoots up, now wide awake, her eyes wide with fear.
"THEY WHAT?" The lavender pony shouts, angry and scared that she'll be replacing her parents and brother so quickly after their passings.
