Sara's heart continues to beat at the speed of drum. She opens the door to DB's office as Gil follows behind. She sees Henry giggling with Nick, Greg, and DB. They are showing him how to use a small pipette and he looks upon them with wonder as the squeeze the small applicator. She can't help, but be grateful for her friends and the way they have cared for her boy. They have loved him and she can't help, but be grateful.
Jack stops her before she enters the break room. "Hey! I've got to go to work I'm sorry, can you take care of Henry getting home? It's a teachers in-service so he doesn't have to go to school." Sara nodded, "yea thanks Jack." She kisses him on the cheek and he smiles. "Hi, my name is Jack, I assume you must be the famed Gilbert." Gil steadies himself, "Ah, yes, um hello" and he shakes Jack's outstretched hand. He keeps a straight face and says "I'll see you later, Sara. Louis and I were still planning on making dinner if that's okay with you. Sara nods, "yeah see you then" as Jack walks away.
Gil can't take his eyes off the boy. He can't believe what he's seeing. His boy smiling and playing. All he wants to do is hold him even just for a second; he's in such shock. Realizing that he had never held his son as a baby. Never taken any pictures with him, he had lost something he never had in the first place. Part of him wanted to run to his son and embrace him while another part of him wanted to speak to Heather. He needed to talk through what was happening to him, but his friend was nowhere to be found. That was another problem he would deal with later.
Sara pushes the door open and Henry looks up and smiles at her. "Mommy!" Henry runs over and gives Sara a hug and she scoops him up into her arms. "Hi buddy! Are you having fun with Uncle Nick and Uncle Greg?" Henry nodded his head rapidly and smiled. Sara put him down and she looked into Henry's eyes. "Hey honey, this is… my friend Gil. Can you say hello?"
Gil bent down to look at the boy. Henry's eyes were carbon copies of his mothers and Gil couldn't help but fall in love with the boy already. Gil reached out his hand, "pleased to meet you young man." Henry giggled "your friend talks funny mommy." Both Sara and Gil laugh a little and smile. Greg, Nick, and DB get up and leave the room quietly, but not without checking on Sara first. Nick squeezes her shoulder and she turns giving him knowing nod. She's okay and she needs to be here for this moment.
Gil sits down and begins asking Henry simple questions like his age and favorite things. Henry giggles and tells him that he loves dinosaurs and his favorite is the Velociraptor. Gil imitates a Velociraptor and Henry squeals with delight. Sara stays back and watches Gil with the boy. He's a natural with Henry which almost unnerves her. In part she thought he would never want anything to do with her or Henry and so it leaves her pondering. Does he want to be a part of Henry's life? Will he want joint custody? Is he going to try and take him? Is he upset? Does he want us to be together? She shakes her head. This isn't about her, it's about Henry and what he needs.
