Hello everyone! Thanks for sticking with the story! Sorry I haven't been able to post a chapter in a while [graduate school is no joke]. Hope you are all well and thanks again for your reviews!
Gil drives over to their old house like it was yesterday. He turns off the car and gets out. He picked up a small train for Henry and some flowers for Sara. He knew that he needed to make some kind of effort and he hoped that it would be interpreted well. He knocked on the door and Sara answered it. "Gil, come in." He handed her the flowers and she said thank you. "I thought you might like them. I figured vegetation would still be a good bet." She laughed a little. "Yeah you're not wrong." Gil offered a light smile before Henry ran up to greet him. Gil bent down and said, "I thought you might like this my new friend." Henry gave a big toothy smile and said thank you before running off to play with his new toy.
Sara walked into the living room and Gil followed seeing that Jack was sitting on the couch. Gil and Jack exchanged a nod without much else. Sara figured that was the best they were going to get from one another so she took it in stride. She turned to Gil, "can I get you something to drink?" Gil turned to her, "a water would be delightful if you don't mind." Sara walked into the kitchen to grab a glass with ice and poured the water in. She saw that Gil was on the floor playing and talking with Henry. Jack was watching the both of them before getting up to find Sara in the kitchen doing the same thing.
"How are you feeling about all of this?" Sara snapped out of her observation and turned to Jack. "I mean I could say it could be worse or it could just be different. Honestly, he's been respectful and he's made it clear that he wants what's best for Henry and for now I can live with that." Jack looked at her intently again. "Sara, we both know you're not over him. It just depends on if you're willing to be honest with yourself about that fact." Sara pursed her lips and leaned against the counter. "Jack he hasn't offered that and I'm not sure I can take another round of him leaving. I can't put myself through that and I know he will stay for Henry, but that's all it can be until I know for sure where he's at. I have to focus on my son." Jack turned and whispered to her again, "Sara, you have spent the last four years focused on your son. When is the day that you are either going to move forward without him or with him." Jack leans Gil's general direction, but Sara knew what he was saying, She had to either open the door completely or close it. She had to make this decision for herself, but that was hard. She was no longer by herself. She chose Henry a long time ago. "Jack I can't take the rejection again. I can't do the divorce again. I can't I just can't." Jack pursed his lips. "Sara, unless he's stupider then he looks, he knows that coming back for Henry in part means coming back for you too." Sara pursed her lips and paused again. "Unless he communicates any of this to me then "I can't take this again. I need him to be honest with what he wants before I could ever consider it again."
Gil and Jack were attempting to whisper, but Gil hard a feeling that he knew what the hushed whispers were about. Sara was just as confused as he was about the role their relationship was going to play in the future with Henry. She was struggling with the past as much as she was with the future too. Gil watched his son and he smiled. This boy looked like the spitting image of himself and he thought to himself Sara has to look at a mini me everyday and not ever know any closure about us. Gil watched as Henry continued to play and like Brass said he had to follow the evidence. Sara wouldn't be this torn up and confused if she didn't have something else on her mind amid all of this. He knew that he would miss her if he didn't try. He would miss the opportunity of truly knowing her once again. She was the best thing that happened to him and she chose him and their son every day and it was time that she felt a little of that in return. Gil had to at least try to fight for her.
Henry babbled playing with the small train and another stuffed dinosaur. Gil grabbed another toy and began to have a dinosaur battle with his son. How could I have missed this? He's just so beautiful. Gil smiled again. Sara came back into the living room with the glass of water and sets it on the table. "Thank you," Gil says before taking a sip. Sara nods before Henry runs over to her to show her his new toy and talk about his new adventure. Sara smiles and delights in her son's ramblings. Jack comes back after a moment but hangs back. Unless this man is stupider then I think, he still has feelings for her he just has to decide if he's willing to expose them to her. Hopefully we will find out soon. Jack pauses before slipping out the back to work.
