Kawaki and Sumire in Konoha

Have you imagined Kawaki meeting Sumire in Konoha before the day she appeared with Katasuke in the Hospital after the fight against Boro? Well, I have. I have imagined a lot of extra moments. The first chapter took place between events from episode 195. After Kawaki and Naruto had lunch at Ichiraku's they were walking back home and met Sumire passing by on the opposite sidewalk.

Summary:

After leaving the river back Kawaki talks about Sumire to Boruto, Naruto and Himawari.

Immediately after saying farewell to Sumire, Naruto, Himawari, Boruto and Kawaki were back moving on the way to the training field, Kawaki and Boruto were ahead, Himawari and Naruto were behind.

Naruto looked at the top of Kawaki's head:

_Hey, Kawaki, there is grass all over your hair

Kawaki shook his hair with his right hand:

_What?! Why didn't you tell me before?

Naruto and Himawari laughed.

Boruto:

_That is no surprise, his hair is a real bird's nest now.

Kawaki:

_Shut up, Boruto!

Boruto:

_You are the one to blame, you didn't let Class Rep fix your hair after all.

Boruto thought: "Well I don't like the idea to see her close to him, but if Kawaki was kinder to her it wouldn't be a problem, but it seemed like Kawaki was uneasy when she approached, so I don't know..."

Kawaki with an intrigued face:

_You say that now? Haven't you said it would make a difference?

Naruto taking a grass leaf from Kawaki's hair:

_You missed a spot.

Boruto looked at Kawaki:

_Well, I had to do something to help Class Rep in that awkward situation.

Kawaki raised his left eyebrow:

_What do you mean by "awkward situation"?

Boruto frowned:

_Oh, you were just stuck there holding her hand and staring at her like a weirdo.

Kawaki got angry:

_I wasn't staring at her like a weirdo!

Himawari looked surprised at Kawaki, she understood it like a romantic gesture:

_Hmmm, you were holding her hand?

Kawaki got embarrassed because of Himawari's suggestion and answered to her:

_I wasn't! I mean, not like that.

Naruto noticed Kawaki was embarrassed because of the way Himawari was questioning him, but he didn't get the real reason for Boruto being provoking Kawaki, he assumed it was a goofing moment and he said giggling:

_I can't believe I missed that!

Boruto thought: "Hey, Hima, you got that wrong. But, dad, why do you think it is funny?"

Himawari noticing Kawaki embarrassment:

_So, do you like her, Kawaki?

Boruto thought: "How would he like her after all he did to her? When he was staring at her I was afraid he could do something bad to her"

Kawaki looked serious at Himawari:

_You got it wrong, Hima! I just grabbed her wrist so she wouldn't touch me.

Himawari startled:

_That was so rude!

Boruto being sarcastic:

_Better grabbing her wrist than grabbing her neck!

Naruto face-palmed and thought: "Oh mine, so this is what you were trying to pull out, Boruto?!"

Kawaki clenched his fists and stopped walking, he took a deep breath. It was the second time in that very day someone has mentioned "his attempt to choke Sumire", earlier that morning, Wasabi had said something similar to Boruto's last phrase, furthermore, Boruto also mentioned Himawari that Nue attacks whoever hurt "his mom". Kawaki was tired to be accused.

He thought: "Of course Boruto hadn't forgotten about what I did in Ryutan to Sumire, he had made a storm in a teapot just about a broken vase. That's what is so annoying to be meeting with Sumire so often and at this time Boruto was there too. I am having a harsh time fixing a simple vase, how can I make up with Boruto about Sumire?!" Kawaki looked at Boruto serious:

_I never wanted to have hurt her in the first place! So cut it out, Boruto! You don't have any idea about what happened at those stairs or in that alley in the village.

Boruto intrigued:

_What do you mean by that? I know by that time we are all acting like your enemies. I just don't wanna you to keep treating my friends like they still are. You seemed uneasy with Sumire at the riverbank while you were grabbing her hand, so I got worried because the last time you saw her... well, you tried to kill her, didn't you?. So I was afraid you wouldn't be satisfied only with your usual grumpy words towards her as you do with Sarada and Mitsuki.

Kawaki thought: "There is no use, I must try to convince him just by talking".

Kawaki looked steadfast to Boruto:

_I won't ever hurt Sumire again, you have my word on that. Today wasn't the first time I met with her in Konoha, by the way. Also, you said you are all acting like enemies back there, but she wasn't. I just couldn't see it at the time. The life I had made me not trust anyone. I said I never wanted to have hurt her in the first place because I was just defending myself, I thought she was deceiving me. Actually, I never have enjoyed hurting anyone, I never wanted to be a weapon, I never wanted to be used as a tool and be seen as less than a human and treated like shit, I learned to fight to survive, I never enjoyed that. The only kindness I have ever got was from disgusting bastards willing to use me, so I saw everyone acting this way as a liar. Sumire was the only one that didn't look at me like a monster in that Tech Lab, but I just assumed she was a fool. I was wrong.

Himawari felt sorry for Kawaki. Naruto had some flashbacks about people he have met with painful past, himself included. Boruto was moved with Kawaki's words, he asked:

_What happened at "those stairs" and at "that alley" in the village exactly?

Kawaki looked away, clenched his fists and began to speak in a resolute tone of voice:

_ When Sumire fought me in the Tech Lab stairs she had beaten me at first, so I called her a liar because I thought she was meek before, but I hit her with a ninja tool, she was thrown against the wall. At the first minute after that, Nue appeared furious, huge, he stroke me down as he ripped my arm with his teeth, Sumire rushed to try to take him off me, but he didn't obey her, he threw me in the air and I fell hitting my back at the stair's steps, Sumire managed to hold him so he wouldn't attack me again and then I ran away, not before I called her a monster. I had lost much blood, I was weak, I went to the Village to find food but instead, I helped a hungry stray dog. He was attacked by a butcher for stealing food for me. Sumire somehow found us. She wasn't afraid when I said I would kill her just after I have frightened the butcher away. She aided the stray dog wound, she would have treated my wound too, but I didn't allow her. She apologized for Nue, which was in a chibi form on her shoulder just looking at me.

Kawaki looked at Naruto:

_ She started to tell me that Lord Seventh would come to help me, I didn't buy it. She said she knew how I was feeling...

Kawaki looked at Boruto:

_She said she once trusted her father that used her as a vengeance weapon and she almost destroyed Konoha but you and her friends bring her back to the right path.

Kawaki looked away:

_She looked into my eyes almost piercing my soul while she was talking with me, I just had to stand up and leave that shit, but I was dizzy, she worried about me and took something in her satchel saying it was nutrients or something, it was an injection. When I saw the needle I just got in such a fear that I grabbed her neck against that fence and yelled I wouldn't be injected by anything. I didn't squeeze her so tight, just enough to immobilize her, so she could have fought back, but she chose just to answer she wouldn't harm me, she knew that was afraid. Damn it! How did she know that?

Kawaki looked at Boruto:

_Then you and your team showed up. All you saw was my "attempt to murder her", but it wasn't like that! I wasn't planning to hurt her, I just wanted to leave before I be deceived to trust in someone, but seeing the needle triggered me to attack her. But that bullshit police officers appeared and I just got furious and that was when I hurt her squeezing her neck. Then Nue bit me, in his tiny version, I don't know how he didn't get bigger and have me killed for good that time, I guess Sumire was holding him back better that time, she even asked you to hold back when you yelled at me to let her go. She thought she could deal with it without fighting me and she didn't after all because those bastard police officers shot on me anyway and Sumire fainted.

Boruto frowned:

_Tsc, those morons, did Sumire also got hit by the blasts? I couldn't see it through the smoke, I just so she fainted after the shots_ Boruto rubbed his nape_ I saw she was conscious after you released her neck.

Kawaki got pensive and looked at Boruto:

_Huh, actually none of the blasts hit her, they aimed all of them at me and I received all the hits, if I had moved a little some of them could have hit Sumire because she was right behind me, but it was not the case, I guess it was the smoke that made her faint. (Ps: this is Kawaki's opinion but Sumire gave the real explanation, it was the remaining impact wave that hit her and Nue – chapter 3)

Boruto intrigued:

_Why you didn't move?

Kawaki looked away:

_ I don't know, I used my arm as a shield it would work better than running at that moment.

Boruto:

_But you could have moved just a little by reflex...

Kawaki looked at Boruto:

_I am telling you I didn't move one inch!

Boruto looked at Kawaki:

_Ok, then. So Class Rep didn't get any hit, gladly.

Kawaki looked away:

_Tsc, it was not like I wanted her killed, why those bastards would shoot on their own people? So I thought maybe she wasn't with them after all. Dummy thought.

Boruto :

_Wait, so you didn't move because you thought of her safety?

Kawaki:

_No way, she just got lucky, it all happened too fast. Well not that lucky, I mean, she didn't get that hurt when she fainted, did she?

Boruto:

_Huh, see how you care about her?

Kawaki looked at Boruto:

_I didn't care back then.

Himawari smiling at Kawaki:

Kawaki looked away:

At this moment, Kawaki restarted to walk, being followed by the others. At that point, they were in a wide road, so the four were side by side. Someone looking at them by the front view from left to right would see Naruto, Himawari, Kawaki, and Boruto in this sequence.

Naruto looked at Kawaki making a suggestive face:

_Well, but maybe you cared even back then, you have just said you thought she wasn't to blame for the trap with the police officers and you didn't want her to get killed, a dummy thought you said...

Kawaki crossed his arms and looked at Naruto:

_So what? Just because I didn't want to see her dead it doesn't mean I cared.

Naruto smiling at Kawaki:

_It means the slightest care, but still, care.

Kawaki looked forward:

_Hmm.

Boruto looked at Kawaki:

_Well, anyway she wasn't much hurt, she was awake five minutes later and the first thing she did was ask for your sake for my dad.

Kawaki put his hands in his pockets and looked at Boruto:

_Yeah, Lord Seventh told me about that.

Boruto:

_She took more other five minutes to fully recover though._Boruto rubbed his nape_ Then Mr. Sai, she and I came just at the moment you were about to faint being held by dad, she was truly relieved when she saw you were fine.

Kawaki thought: "That's new for me..."

Boruto looked at Naruto:

_Hey, dad, speaking of that, did those polices officers got punished somehow? They were very stupid to fire when Class Rep was there, Mitsuki also told me they were firing in a street where the villagers were at the crossfire range, what kind of work is that threatening civilians' lives?

Boruto raised his right eyebrow as looking at Kawaki and said:

_Are you making that weirdo face again?!

Naruto thought: "Hehe, Himawari said the same thing Sumire did, Kawaki must have been moved."

Kawaki looked back at Boruto annoyed:

_There is no weirdo face!

Himawari, that is an observing person, said looking at Kawaki:

_Were you thinking about her?

Kawaki looked away, he didn't reply and thought: "Does this girl read minds or what?!"

Himawari:

_Yes, you were!

Naruto thought: "Oh boy, my daughter is good in stuff like that, be aware Kawaki.."

Kawaki pretended he wasn't listening and he immediately tried to come up with thoughts other than Sumire, but trying to not think just made him think more. He was almost being embarrassed when he was interrupted by Boruto:

Boruto looked at Kawaki:

_Okay, okay, there is just another thing I need to know, you said you have met Class Rep before today, right?

Kawaki and Naruto looked at each other worried at that moment, remembering that they would like to avoid Boruto knowing about the quarrel with Team Fifteen that morning.

Boruto impatient looked at Kawaki:

_ Did you meet her or not?

Kawaki looked at the ground:

_Yes, I did.

Boruto:

_When was that?

Kawaki thought: "Damn it, where he is trying to get?" Kawaki looked at Boruto dissimulating his worry with an earnest face:

_Why all those questions? What is the matter?

Boruto:

_Huh, the matter is that you had the chance to apologize about having hurt her back then, but you didn't, did you?

Kawaki's face turned a little sad:

_No, I didn't.

Boruto:

_But you are repented about what you did to her in Ryutan, aren't you?

Boruto raised his right eyebrow at Kawaki:

Kawaki stared at Boruto saying:

_I feel unpleased when "someone" _ emphasis in someone_ shows up accusing me, Sumire hasn't ever accused me.

Boruto frowned at Kawaki:

_ "Someone" _emphasis in someone_ is necessary when your conscience is not enough.

Kawaki got uneasy:

Boruto crossed his arms:

_Because you owe her an apology and period.

Kawaki snorted and said:

_Dude, you are such a pain in my neck!

Himawari with a sweet look at Kawaki:

_Nisan is right though, Kawaki-kun!

Kawaki didn't use to react to Himawari with his usual bitter face due to her cuteness. He pretended he was indifferent but he got reflexive.

Boruto looked at Kawaki:

_ I can't understand how you are bold enough to keep staring at Class Rep without having apologized to her. And you stare too much by the way.

Kawaki rolled his eyes and made a long face.

Himawari looked at Boruto:

_ Onii-chan, I guess he stares at her too much because he is admiring her beauty!

Kawaki and Boruto opened their eyes wide.

Naruto laughed:

_I guess you got it right, Hima!

Boruto got annoyed:

_Are you two serious?

Himawari looked at Kawaki and spoke in her sweet way:

_Kawaki-kun, do you think Sumire is pretty?

Kawaki startled, he thought: "Damn it, this girl really read my mind back there..." He looked away and shrugged saying:

_It doesn't matter what I think.

Boruto teasing:

_Really? So, are you going to say she is ugly?

Kawaki looked at Boruto:

_Whatever.

Himawari looked at Boruto:

_Do you think Sumire is pretty, Nisan?

Boruto with a thoughtful face:

_Well, yeah, she is.

Himawari:

_What about Sarada, you think she is pretty too, don't you, Nisan?

Boruto embarrassed:

_What?! What does Sarada have to do with it?!

Himawari:

_Are you going to say she is ugly?

Boruto rubbed his nape:

_She is not..._Boruto slightly blushed_ But we are not talking about her, Hima.

Kawaki felt like teasing Boruto and tried a joke:

_ I think Sarada is pretty.

Boruto surprised:

_You do?!

Kawaki smirked:

_ "Pretty" annoying, that is.

Boruto got mad:

_You shut your mouth up, Kawaki! You are the one that annoys everyone around, don't you dare to badmouth Sarada at my face! You jerk!

Himawari:

_But, Nisan, you have yourself said Sarada is annoying sometimes...

Boruto looked at Himawari:

_What? But I am allowed to say that, and it is not like she is really annoying... well, it is just her way of being,_Boruto looked at Kawaki_ but she is an amazing person and Kawaki can't talk about her like that, he doesn't know her for real.

Kawaki looked at Boruto:

_Hey Boruto, don't worry, I just said that to tease you. I don't wanna fight with you because of Sarada. I don't even intend to know her for real; you seem to be very jealous.

Boruto's face got completely blushed. Himawari and Naruto giggled and Kawaki felt satisfied by having made Boruto speechless.

Naruto winkled at Himawari:

_Hey, sweetheart, you better hold back when you start talking about a subject like that, all you get is letting the boys embarrassed.

Kawaki with a proud posture:

_Don't say it in the plural, I wasn't embarrassed.

Naruto smirked:

_You were slightly, but you just know how to hide it better.

Kawaki looked away:

_Nonsense.

Naruto:

_Look at that, you are doing it again.

Himawari giggled. Boruto had his face normal again. He looked at Kawaki and said:

_Anyway, tell me why you don't wanna apologize to Sumire.

Kawaki looked to Boruto:

_Damn it! Aren't you done with this topic?

Boruto:

_I am not. Tell me why.

Kawaki:

_Dude, it is not like I could come up with this subject out of nowhere, what should I say: "Hey, do you remember that time that I freaked out and choked you while I called you a liar? I am sorry for that"?

Boruto:

_Yeah, that works for me.

Kawaki:

Boruto:

Naruto and Himawari laughed. They finally got to the training field. Boruto looked at Kawaki and talked to him in private just before they take the stance for the spar:
_Look, I guess it will be easier to apologize to Sumire than glue all the pieces of the broken vase. Won't you give up on either of them! Is it a deal?

Kawaki looked friendly at Boruto:

_All right, it is a deal, Boruto. Just give me time, I can't do either of them in a hurry.

Boruto smiled with a thumb up with his right hand.

_Deal.

Kawaki nodded and said:

_Deal.
