KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
"GO AWAY, I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!" Nooshy hid under her covers, cursing whoever was making the racket.
The persistent knocking paused, then continued, this time even more obnoxious.
"LET US IN!" Ash screamed.
"NO! I CALLED IN THIS TIME, I'LL GO IN TOMORROW. JUST LET ME SLEEP!" Nooshy screamed back.
"Oh come on! WHAT HAPPENED THIS TIME?" Porsha yelled.
"I CANT HEAR YOU NOW!" Nooshy had made a habit of using the lyric against the wolf whenever she was angry with her.
"She's never going to let that go, is she?"
"You thought she'd let it go?"
"HAHA, WHY DON'T WE ALL LAUGH. JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" Nooshy didn't feel anger. To her surprise, she felt despair, as if she just wanted to cry, to scream, to claw up her own pillow and then sleep for awhile until she could wake up and everything would be normal. Her normal perfect world with its hidden secrets. A world that could hide her broken past.
"Nooshy, honey, you can't hide in there forever!" Rosita sounded somewhat weary.
"JUST WATCH ME!"
"Whatever happened can't be that bad!" Meena called.
"Oh, but it can." Nooshy whispered.
"I didn't want to have to do this!" The sound of a door opening came to the lynx's ears.
'Damn it, how did they get in?'
"Woo girl, you've got a nice house!" Porsha whistled, sliding a finger over the polished wood entrance table.
"You've been here before." Nooshy grumbled.
"Yeah I know. Thanks for letting us know where you were by the way." Porsha smirked, poking her head in.
Nooshy just groaned and fell flat on her bed as the others came in.
"What happened sweetheart?" Rosita asked gently.
"None of you will tell?"
"No, no of course not!"
A few seconds past before she blurted out, "I kissed him."
The shock registered on their faces and when what she had revealed settled in, huge smiles grew on their faces.
"YES!" Porsha squealed, jumping up and down in a circle.
Ash pumped her fist and cheered, while Meena started to dream of the endless possibilities.
None of them realized the pain they were causing the lynx, who turned onto her side and pulled the covers over her head.
"I'm going to die now."
"Come on, Noosh! Don't be like that! Aren't you happy?" Ash exclaimed.
"HAPPY?" She roared, throwing the covers off her. "WHY WOULD YOU THINK I'M GODDAMN HAPPY? I JUST RUINED MY LIFE!"
The startled group stared in silence until Meena spoke up. "How exactly did you ruin your life?"
"I KISSED MY BEST FRIEND. A.K.A DESTROYING MY FRIENDSHIP."
"Maybe you didn't destroy it. Maybe the tables turned and it's turned into a relationship that means a lot."
"Yeah, easy for you to say. I thought I was DYING because it turned out I had a crush on my best friend. Do you know how hard it is to lose people? Do you know how hard it is to let people in?"
"I do." Porsha put a hand on her shoulder. "I lost my mom and it hurt. Technically, I lost my dad, but um," she paused, looking as though she wanted to cry. "He's been gone for awhile now. Mom died, and he went with her."
"I do too. Not losing people, but letting them in. It took me a long time to learn how to let the in again after what happened." Ash took a seat next to her on the bed.
"I'm sorry guys." Nooshy said, looking ashamed. "I kinda forgot that I wasn't the only one who's been hurt."
"It's ok, because the thing hurting you the most right now is your parents. You keep getting reminded of them, so it hurts more now. But, they'll always be with you, just keep them in your heart, like I do my dad." Meena sat at the edge of Nooshy's bed, surprisingly big for the small lynx.
"Damn, I want to cry now." Ash said. "Can we please stop talking about this?"
"Yes, please. Hey Noosh, will you come tomorrow?" Porsha looked hopeful.
"Can't leave my best friends in their time of need, now can I?"
The group laughed, but the feeling that someone was nervous hung in the air.
"Nooshy, what are you going to do?"
"Avoid him, duh."
"Honey, you should talk to him," Rosita advised. "It'll make both of you feel better."
Nooshy laughed sarcastically. "Yeah, sure. The last thing I want to do besides avoid him is talk to him. So not happening."
They could all see that nooshy was not budging, so they dropped it for now.
Obviously, Nooshy wasn't the only one affected by this. Johnny trudged through the glass doors of the large building, still in a kind of daze from the night before. He passed most without so much as a good morning, which was unusual for him. Ryan found him staring at an empty dance studio on the fourth floor.
"Soooo, wanna talk?"
"What?"
"Ok, what happened?"
"What are you talking about? Where did you come from anyway?"
"Johnny, I've been standing here for ten minutes. You've been zoned out for the past hour and thirty minutes. You haven't said a word to anyone since you got here and you've been staring at that empty studio for awhile. What's up?"
"Nothing."
"You're a very bad liar. Where's Nooshy?"
"Who?"
"Um, Nooshy. Your best friend and recent crush."
"Oh, yeah…her."
"Oh yeah, her? That's all you have to say? Didja fight or something?"
"Nnno…no"
Ryan stood, waiting for him to explain.
"I um…I was gonna tell her last night."
"Did you?"
"She showed up right as I was going to go."
"Aaaannndd?"
"She kissed me."
"WHAT?"
"Don't tell."
"SHE KISSED YOU AND YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT?"
"No…was I supposed to?"
Ryan sighed and put a hand on his forehead, exasperated. "You are hopeless. You didn't tell her anything?"
Johnny shook his head.
"Did you at least kiss her back?"
*silence*
"Oh COME ON! How do you ever expect to ask her out if you can't even deal with that?"
"I feel so much better right now, thank you so much Ryan." Johnny said sarcastically..
Ryan's tone softened. "Sorry. It's just, you gotta do something about it. You two are in a show together, how are you going to do it?"
"I have no idea."
"Talk to her. Get her view point on it."
"ARE YOU NUTS? No, I can't talk to her, she called in sick today, she probably never wants to see me again!"
"Do you love her?"
"What?"
"Do you love her? Is she special to you?"
"Yeah…yeah she is.."
"Then that's your answer."
"But that doesn't make sense!"
"It will one day."
"Yes, Mother."
"Haha."
Suddenly, an announcement came over the PA. "All set members to the theater, I repeat, all set members to the theater!"
When they arrived, they saw buster running around, panicked. "WE HAVE A DEADLINE! WE HAVE TO GET THIS SHOW UP AND RUNNING BY NEXT WEEK!"
