I added Beast Boy and Raven as a paring to the story because their wedding is kind of a major plot point and I'm more than likely going to write some more cute scenes with them like this chapter. And I know this chapter is more dialogue than anything, but these first couple of chapters are setting the foundation for what's about to happen. Hang in there because it's going to be a wild ride soon.

Chapter Two: Seating Arrangements
Rachel anxiously tapped her fingers on the laptop in front of her as she reviewed the seating chart for her and Gar's wedding in two weeks. The chart was way overdue and should have been done weeks ago, but there were a couple of pieces to their complex puzzle that worried the engaged couple which was making both of them procrastinate on the project.
This might be a really bad idea. Rachel thought to herself. But I don't want to separate the wedding party…Gar where are you?
She was getting impatient and she wanted her fiancé's opinion on this matter. Rachel logged out of Bad Omen 30 minutes ago and Gar was still in their bedroom most likely logged in. She sighed and swung her legs around on the stool she was seating on at the kitchen island and stood up to make her way to the small wine collection they had on the counter. Maybe after a glass of wine, she would be able to submit the final seating chart to the wedding planner.
Gar and Rachel moved out of the Titans Tower a little over two years ago and got themselves a nice and cozy apartment in Jump City. With the new Teen Titans moving in they wanted to make more room for the newer recruits. Granted Titans Tower was large enough to house a whole community of people, Gar and Rachel thought that with being in their mid-twenties it was time for them to get their own 'adult space' and replace the dormitory-style living they endured for over ten years.
Rachel loved their apartment. It was quiet enough for her to practice her mediations without the rambunctious teenagers interrupting her. Gar had finally matured to respect Rachel's mediation times so he knew when not to disrupt her. Though he also knew her non-mediation schedule so his antics were fair game during those times. One of the things she has grown to love about him.
However, at the moment she wished she had young Virgil or Jaime trying to compete to make her laugh so that she could have a distraction to procrastinate more on her wedding task while she waited for Gar. It was the one time she didn't mind being interrupted by those eccentric teens.
"Sorry babe." Rachel heard Gar say when he finally entered their kitchen. "I was going over my inventory and completely lost track of time."
"Uh-huh." Rachel eyed him suspiciously. "Are you sure you weren't just trying to get out of wedding duties?"
"Why would I do that?" Gar asked innocently and grabbed a wine glass to pour himself a glass as well. "Are you hungry? There is a new vegan place that opened up a few blocks from here that I heard was really good. I can get some take-out if you want."
"Gar.." She called him out on his task avoidance.
He sighed, knowing he wasn't getting out of it this time. "Ok fine. The seating chart. How far along are we with that?"
"I'm almost done with it." Rachel then hesitated. "There are just two people I'm not too sure about placing at the same table and I wanted to get your opinion first."
Gar swirled his wine glass and watched the dark violet liquid swish back and forth. "I can take a gander of who those two might be."
Rachel nodded. "Dick and Kory."
"Yeah, I was afraid of that," Gar said. "You think putting them at the same table is the best idea? You do remember the last time they were in the same room. We lost half of our plates in the Titan's kitchen from Kory chucking them at him."
Rachel chuckled at the memory. "Yes I know, but if I remember correctly Dick did instigate that one."
"Oh, he definitely had it coming." Gar laughed. "But are we going to be prepared for a bloodbath at the reception? Or a possible reenactment of that scene from Game of Thrones with Stannis and Melisandre on one of the tables?"
Rachel lightly smacked him on the arm. "That's awful."
"You know I'm not wrong." Gar continued to laugh. "Those two clearly still have it bad for one another. But Kory is stubborn and Dick is well.."
"A dick?"
"You said it. Not me."
Rachel sighed. "It just seems a little juvenile to separate them at different tables like they are children. All their friends are part of the wedding party so it wouldn't seem fair to place one at a different table. It's going to seem quite obvious."
"I'm sure Dick would be fine having a whole table to himself. He's basically disowned the Titans anyway." Gar said bitterly.
"That's not fair, Gar." Rachel said. "You know why he chose to go back to Gotham."
"I know Rae." Gar sighed. "It's been years since that decision was made and I've made my peace with that…mostly. There are still times when I want to deck him in the face for what he did to Kory. Nonetheless, Dick is still one of my best friends and it would be nice to see him a little more from time to time. He doesn't make the effort to call or check-in to see how the new Titans are doing."
Rachel shrugged. "Yes, but we could also make an effort to reach out to him more too. Life gets busy and we are on different paths now so I guess we all are kind of at fault."
Gar looked at the floor sadly. "Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm just missing the good ol' days you know. Don't get me wrong, I love the new Titans and I'm honored that we are their mentors now…but it's not the same."
"I know what you mean." Rachel said while putting her hand on his shoulder. "We all know that nothing lasts forever and things change. It's just something we have to accept."
Gar smiled and brought up his wine-free glass hand to squeeze hers. "I know and I'm glad you stuck around."
"Well someone has to keep you in line." Rachel teased.
"Oh?" Gar raised an eyebrow and placed his glass on the counter and turned to place both his arms on either side of Rachel and leaned in toward her to ask "You want to show me how you exactly keep me in line?"
Rachel smirked and tried to keep her wine from spilling as her personal space was being invaded. Gar was taller than her now so she was the one having to look up at him. He certainly had grown into a dashing and handsome young man with a lean and fit body to follow suit. Something that Rachel was realizing she couldn't resist. "Maybe…but we have to submit that seating chart first."
"Do we?" Gar asked huskily and leaned in to close the space between them with a passionate kiss.
The young couple was interrupted by Gar's phone ringing and he had to remorsefully pull away from his enchanting fiancé to check it. "It's Vic," Gar said while reading the caller ID. "I suppose I should answer it."
"You suppose?" Rachel asked while sliding her hand up his toned bicep.
"To be continued, milady." Gar winked at her and then answered the call. Vic requested a video call so when Gar hit accept, the cybernetic man's face appeared on the screen.
"What's up Vic?" Gar greeted his friend. "You miss me already?"
"You know I can't get enough of that green ass." Victor joked. "Oops. Sorry, Rae. I didn't see you there."
Rachel leaned in so she could appear in the camera frame with Gar. "Don't pretend I don't know about the weird bromance between you two."
Victor chuckled a little at her remark and continued with his reason for calling. "I know you're supposed to be working on wedding stuff so I'll make this quick. Gar I was wondering if you can come into the lab for a few hours tomorrow to help me test the avatar match on the vaptic gear."
"The avatar match?" Gar asked, a little surprised. "I didn't think that feature was ready yet."
"It's not," Victor said a little annoyed. "But I just got off the phone with Kory and she wants to know where it's at right now. She told me she wants to migrate it as soon as we can."
"Ok," Gar said slowly. A little confused on why there was a sudden rush for a feature that was completely useless to the game. "I still don't understand the point of the avatar match. Isn't the whole point of a fully immersive game to become someone else that's completely different from who you are in the real world? Seeing if someone closely resembles their avatar kind of seems like a buzzkill feature to me."
Victor brought his hands up to shrug in the camera frame. "I don't know man. But Kory's the boss and she's paying me a hell of a lot of money for it. She didn't give me many details on why she wants the feature to be done now, but something tells me she found something in the game she didn't like and now wants the avatar match because of it."
"Of course." Gar rolled his eyes. "Kory's new perfectionist personality is starting to be a bit much lately. I miss the days when everything was all rainbows and unicorns to her. No matter how imperfect a situation was."
"Which brings up a good point." Rachel butted in. "Does Kory seem like she's overworking herself more than usual?"
"She's the owner of a massively popular video game," Gar stated. "Isn't that what AAA game owners do?"
"Kory's always been ambitious since day one of her project." Rachel said. "But lately I have been tapping a little more into her emotions and she seems extremely anxious. It's like she's trying to find more work to do to not face her own emotions."
"It probably has to do with a certain someone who's going to be in town in a couple of weeks," Victor suggested. Almost always being the one to point out the complex relationship between Dick and Kory. "She's probably finding more work to do now so she can spend the least amount of time with him."
Rachel sighed sadly. That was not what she wanted to hear. "That's what I'm worried about. She's my maid of honor and if she's unable to get along with Dick then…" Rachel paused. She didn't want to say that her wedding was going to be ruined on the account of two people because she knew that it was going to be one of the happiest days of her life. She was just really hoping Kory was going to be her 'happy-go-lucky' self and be the annoying girly girl about everything with the wedding. But right now the future was looking bitter and Rachel was more than likely going to have to deal with the extreme sexual tension between her two friends.
"Like I said… Stannis and Melisandre." Gar uttered.
"I say we try hooking them back up," Victor suggested.
"You do realize you are proposing an almost impossible mission." Rachel said. "As an empath, I know they are still in love with one another, but there is a lot of pain that exists there as well. Wounds that don't want to be healed or faced. There's gonna have to be a lot of inner work to be done on both parties for that to happen."
"I'm sure we can find ways," Victor said confidently. "We knew from the day we all met that those two were meant to be with one another. And sure Dick screwed up..like really bad. But time heals wounds so maybe…"
"Let's just lock them in a closet together and see what happens." Gar half-joked but was also being half-serious.
Rachel chuckled a little. "There we have it then. Operation Dick and Kory is now a go."
"Wait a minute!" Gar and Rachel heard a teenage boy's voice from the screen Victor was on. "Did I just hear 'The Raven' laugh?"
A boy with long dreads and goggles resting on his forehead popped up on the screen next to Victor. "Hi, Gar! Hi, Rachel!" He greeted them happily.
"Hi, Virgil." Rachel brightened. "You didn't hear anything."
"Cyborg! Are you talking to Gar and Rachel?" A young girl's voice chirped up next. Shortly after her voice was heard, Virgil was being pushed out of the frame by a pretty blonde girl. "When are you guys coming over again?" She asked eagerly. "I haven't seen you in a hot minute!"
Rachel smiled at the teenage girl's enthusiasm. Being reminded of Starfire's perkiness when they were younger. "Hey, Cassie. I'm sorry we haven't been over in a while. Gar and I have been busy with wedding duties and super boring adult stuff."
"Yes, and we are currently interrupting said wedding duties," Victor said, trying to take back control of his phone call. "And besides, you both have an early morning training session tomorrow so I suggest you both get to bed."
They heard Virgil groan. "Yes, father…" Teasing Victor because he knew it annoyed their leader to no end.
"Goodnight Gar! Goodnight Rachel!" Cassie called out and jumped out of the camera frame.
When both teenagers had left Gar said. "So daddy Cyborg…"
"Not a word grass stain." Victor hushed Gar. "Don't get me wrong. I love training and leading these kids, but damn are they a wild bunch."
"And you and Gar weren't at their age?" Rachel asked.
"Well…you know. We all go through our weird phases." Victor said and then laughed awkwardly. "But you guys don't live here anymore so you don't know what it's like being around these insane hooligans 24/7, and since you two and Kory moved out, I'm their number one target to mess with."
After Robin left the Teen Titans, Cyborg decided to take on the role of being the new leader. Even though at the time, the original Titans were pretty independent and held their own in battle so there wasn't much leadership called for. However, Cyborg agreed to take in some new young heroes who wanted to grow out of the 'sidekick' shadow and find their individuality on a team. They were quickly known to be the New Teen Titans by the citizens of Jump City since the founders were no longer teenagers anymore.
This new team was made up of Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes), Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark), Static (Virgil Hawkins), and Impulse (Bart Allen). They were a very talented powerhouse of a group, but they still needed a bit more discipline and guidance from their predecessors before taking on criminals by themselves. Cyborg, or Victor Stone, was their main mentor, but Gar and Rachel were also there quite a bit to help them train. Kory was also a popular mentor among the teenagers with the training program she developed using Victor's haptic gear to simulate actual battles with a variety of bots that felt like real-life villains. The training program had of course eventually been developed into Bad Omen for the public to enjoy.
The original Titans were surprised that the naive alien princess who mistakes mustard as a tangy soft drink was able to come up with such an impressive virtual reality program. But most people forget that Kory is still a highly intelligent individual who can rattle off the answers to the world's most complex math equations without batting an eye so building code for software or games weirdly enough became second nature to her. It was a skill she immersed herself in after her breakup with Robin.
"Well, it's about time you get a taste of your own medicine," Rachel smirked. "You guys have no idea how annoying it was to live with you all."
"You're living with Gar now, so that's not much of an upgrade." Victor retorted.
"Hey Vic, I thought you wanted my help for tomorrow," Gar said, noting the insult. "You should be nice to me if you're not going to pay me for it."
Victor rolled his eyes. "I'll buy you lunch at that crappy vegan place by the lab."
"Deal!" Gar responded quickly, not passing up a free meal. Especially a vegan one. "What time do you want me there?"
"Noon if you can," Vic said. "It's going to take a few hours so expect to be there for most of the day."
"Fair enough," Gar confirmed. "Now if you don't mind, Rae and I have some wedding stuff to do."
"Wedding stuff," Vic said with air quotes. "Yeah, I'll let you get to it. Goodnight guys." And with that, Victor ended the call.
Throwing his phone over his shoulder Gar smiled wickedly at Rachel. "And where were we milady?"

Next chapter we get to see what Robin is up to in Gotham! I know finally! Which might take me a little longer than a week to complete because there is going to be more action in it and choreographing action scenes takes me longer to write, but I think it will be worth the wait!
