"They are so cute." Kagome smiled petting the baby dragon. "What are their names?"
"This one is An on the left and Un is on the right." Rin said laying on the floor with her feet in the air.
"Well, it looks like your babies are doing wonderfully." Kagome complimented.
"Thanks to you Lady Kagome." Sitting up Rin smiled back at her. "If it weren't for you then they wouldn't have survived more than a day."
"I didn't do anything Rin."
"Yes you did. You gave me milk and good food to feed them. With everything you have been giving us lately we also have been able to share with some of the others." Rin replied. "You have no idea how much you have helped us."
"Then, you are welcome. If raiding the kitchen to bring out leftover food helps I am more than happy to do it." She said standing. "I should go. I will see you tomorrow Rin."
"Yes my lady." The neko said with a nod. Walking out to meet Sesshomaru Kagome smiled at him.
"The dragons are cute." She said remembering when he took her wrist making her blush. Receiving only a nod she took a breath. "What did Sango want with you?"
"Nothing you need to concern yourself with Lady Kagome." He replied.
"Sesshomaru, I want to help you but you need to talk to me." Kagome appealed. Seeming at odds he sighed relenting.
"Not here." He said glancing at his home. "This way." Leading her between the tight rows of huts they came behind them to a muddy patch of land. "This is…difficult."
"Just speak your mind. Don't worry about who I am or who you are. You are safe with me Sesshomaru." She coaxed.
"Understand that in my life I have witnessed many things and experienced great hardship. It is not in my nature to go to others or seek out help." Sesshomaru said. "I was taught to rely upon your own strength and self discipline."
"Who taught you that?"
"My father and my mother."
"Before they were sold?"
"No. Before the war." Watching as Kagomes eyes went wide she seemed to be in slight shock. "My father was a great demon general that ruled the western lands. He was executed when I was young."
"Oh. That is terrible." Kagome thought for a moment. "And your mother?"
"I have not the slightest idea. After the males were killed they separated the females from their young and many did not return. My mother was no exception."
"I-I didn't know." Looking wretched she bit her lower lip. "I am so sorry."
"This happened long ago. None of the humans personally responsible are living…"
"It was my family. My ancestors. For that I apologize." She said quickly with passion. Pressing her hand to her chest her cheeks flamed red as tears formed in her eyes. "Tell me what Sango wanted you for."
"Sex." He said simply. "When she sees fit she seeks me out."
"Oh!" Her cheeks becoming redder for a different reason. "Wait, Sango goes to you for…that? That doesn't make sense."
"Believe me. I am more conflicted about it then you are."
"I'm-I am so sorry for interfering…"
"Trust me when I say, I owe you my thanks my lady for getting me out of that undesirable position that female has put me in." He said.
"She forces you, then?" Kagome swallowed down the words feeling her heart pound suddenly.
"Yes."
"It will not happen again. I will see to it."
"With all due respect Lady Kagome, there is nothing you can do. As a slave I have to obey what ever demand any human makes of me. Besides, I would rather she exert her energy with me then to take it out in a more violent way on someone else."
"It isn't right. None of this is." Looking around them she clenched her hands into fists angrily before meeting his again.
"I know but it is the way of things. Simply how it has been for a very long time." Seeing the fire in her blue eyes ignite he felt something deep within him that he had thought long dead start to bubble to the surface.
"Nothing lasts forever, Sesshomaru. In your lifetime it will change, your people will be free again."
"Hm." Setting his jaw he released the breath he hadn't realized he was holding in. "I will see you out my lady."
"Alright." Walking quietly past the worn down huts back into the main compound Kagome went to the garden gate. "Sesshomaru, let me know if Sango bothers you again. I will make sure to set her straight."
"Good night Lady Kagome." He bowed his head to her before walking off.
"Good night Sesshomaru." Walking briskly back towards Shippo he jumped up onto her shoulder.
"Kagome! I was getting worried." He lamented.
"It's alright. I'm fine." She soothed as he nuzzled against her cheek. Moving inside she snuck into the kitchen and went quickly to her chambers to change for the evening meal.
She felt sick going over the days events. Sango leading Sesshomaru away to be taken advantage of in such a way. Shaking her head she bit her lip hard.
What was wrong with her former friend. She of all people had never made it any secret how much she hated demons and knew the penalty for copulating with one.
Kagome had heard stories of both men and women who had taken on demon lovers only to be found out. It didn't matter the title, there was no tolerance for it.
Sitting at her vanity to brush out her hair she sighed. Sesshomaru was handsome, that was apparent. Dropping her brush she recalled the hard stare he had given her earlier as he held her wrist in his grasp.
Placing her hand to where he had touched she looked into her mirror seeing the blush burn across the bridge of her nose.
Putting her hands to her face she cleared her throat. 'I can't be falling for him. No. No good will come of it.'
"Are you feeling alright, Kagome?" Shippo asked from where he sat on her bed.
"Yes." Responding meekly she closed her eyes to focus on the task of looking presentable to make her way to the dining hall.
