Chapter 4: Bad Worker
Bruno spent several minutes browsing the information on the restaurant they had visited. He tried to look up records on the worker they had interviewed via her name, but he couldn't find much. He did find an address, however.
"What did you find, Bruno?" asked Akiza.
"A home address. Maybe it won't help, but we can try," Bruno said.
"Her home address? Are you saying we just drive to her house and ring the door?" asked Leo.
"More like we drive there and quietly observe to see if she's home," Bruno said.
"Ooh, this feels like a spy movie!" said West.
"Are you sure you still want to join us?" asked Kalin to Nico and West as he suddenly appeared inside the garage. Radley and Jordan also went in with him. Jordan looked at his children seriously and gestured for them to come with him.
"They will not be joining you," Jordan said firmly to Kalin. "It's too dangerous."
Nico and West looked at their father in disappointment. Kalin nodded silently at Jordan, as he fully understood at his decision.
"I...understand, father," sighed Nico.
"Aww, but it sounds cool!" complained West.
"They can tell you all about it later," Jordan said firmly.
"The crooks are dangerous, and you guys were nearly hurt," added Kalin.
"Yes, and that is not acceptable," Jordan said.
"Ok...dad," frowned West.
"We wish you luck, Enforcers," said Nico.
"Thanks," Radley smiled.
"We'll get that nasty lady for sure this time!" said Jack.
"Let's hope," Radley mused.
After Jordan, Nico, and West left to do their own thing, Team 5Ds headed out. 10 minutes later, they went to the address. The house was dark and nonchalant. Everyone stared at the house from their vehicles and watched for any suspicious activity.
"Hmm, the lights are off," said Akiza. "I'm having bad feelings about this."
"She's probably split," Radley agreed.
"Whatever the case, we have to be on our guard," said Kalin.
They waited for a while. Finally, a woman approached the house from the back door.
"Look! Over there! There's someone trying to get in!" whispered Leo.
"It's probably her, or someone coming to get things for her," Yusei said.
"I wonder if she has more goons inside," said Jack getting ready his duel disk just in case.
"So do we follow her in?" Scotch wondered.
"What do you think, Yusei, Bruno?" asked Luna.
"Let's get closer and try to see what's happening," Yusei said.
"Yeah, we could be the ones in trouble for barging in," Bruno said.
"Let's approach slowly to be safe," nodded Kalin.
Yusei led them quietly over to the window. The girl was rummaging through the kitchen drawers. Finally, she pulled out a small address book and called a number. "We've got problems. Someone's suspicious. No, I don't know how!"
"I wonder who she's calling?" asked Akiza.
"Maybe she's calling the boss," said Jack.
The woman was finishing up her conversation with the mysterious person "... Okay, I'll meet you." She hung up, headed out, and drove off.
"Now we need to follow her again!" Scotch said.
"Like Yusei always says, 'Let's Rev it up!'" yelled Jack as he ran to his runner.
"The outcome better be more satisfying than the previous duel," said Kalin.
Everyone took off. Team 5ds followed the woman down the street, making sure to keep their distance so as to not seem suspicious. This time no one came out to distract them. She arrived at a warehouse and got out to impatiently wait.
Yusei led everyone to pull over and wait in the dark. After a time, another car arrived and a mysterious person got out to talk to her.
"Hey! It's another person!" gasped Leo.
"Could that be the boss?" asked Akiza.
"I need to text Crow about this," said Kalin as he typed: 'Hey Crow. We followed the maid we interviewed yesterday to a warehouse. She is talking to a strange figure."
"Just keep watching, if you can! I'm coming out," Crow replied.
"Alright we will!" texted back Kalin.
The meeting continued, with them discussing how hard it was to get hold of the tech.
"How dare they bad mouth us!" muttered Jack.
"What do they want with the Ener-D Reactor tech anyway?" asked Leo.
"Actually, they're complimenting us, since we're making it hard for them," Radley smirked.
"Probably to power their business operations," Bruno said.
"Well, we're about to give them an even harder time!" said Jack.
"If they do, Neo Domino City would lose trust in the Ener-D tech again," said Akiza.
Yusei nodded. "We are." Rare anger filled his voice. He had fought so hard for the new reactor and their new future. He wouldn't have it taken away. "We won't let that happen."
"When are we going to step in and stop them?" asked Leo.
"Crow's coming," Yusei said. "We're supposed to wait for him, unless we can't."
"Uh ... I think we can't," Scotch said. Two thugs had just spotted them.
"Oh crap..." muttered Leo.
"Everyone, get ready to fight!" shouted Kalin.
Radley brought out his dragon. Kalin also brought out Trishula. The two ice dragons hissed menacingly at the criminals.
"You know, we still don't have the third one of these," Radley said.
"I also don't understand it either. Have the dragons not found the right person yet?"
Yusei summoned Sratdust Dragon. Jack summoned Red Dragon Archfiend. Akiza summoned Black Rose Dragon. And Luna summoned Ancient Fairy Dragon.
The thugs growled, stepping back. They tried summoning monsters too.
"What's the matter? Come on, try to defeat us!" taunted Jack.
The thugs used equip cards and tried to attack.
"Equip cards? Hey, that's my specialty!" said Leo. "Let's put the motor to the rotor, with Power Tool Dragon!"
One thug cursed at the sight of everyone's dragons. A third came and summoned a monster that could cancel out monster effects.
Radley growled. "Now, what?" Their dragons ran on effects.
"Why you!" growled Kalin.
"No it can't be!" exclaimed Akiza.
"How are we supposed to stop them now?" cried Luna.
"We need to destroy their monster," Yusei said.
Radley drew and found one of his monster destruction traps. He Set it. Kalin also set two traps and summoned Infernity Beast. When the thugs tried to attack, they ran up against the formidable traps.
"How will stand up against my Infernity Barrier?" smirked Kalin.
The thugs growled. Radley's trap destroyed the monster that was blocking their monsters' effects.
"Yeah! Way to go, guys! We can use effects again!" cheered Leo.
Akiza ordered Black Rose Dragon to reduce a thug's monster to 0 ATK.
The thug swore. While all this was going on, the boss and the girl tried to get away. The Bunch ran after them.
"No, they're getting away!" cried Luna.
"Not on my watch!" yelled Crow as he appeared on the road and followed after the Bunch.
"Crow!" Luna said in relief. "You made it!"
The Bunch was jumping on the criminals and dragging them down.
"Hey guys! I told you guys I would come!" grinned Crow. He took out his taser and prepared to subdue the lady and her boss.
"This is the police! Put your hands in the air!"
The boss and the lady were scrapping with the Bunch. They dragged the crooks up.
"Nice work, guys!" said Crow to the Bunch.
Scotch grinned. "Yes! They are so going away!"
"I wonder if we finally put an end to their scheme?" asked Kalin
"Maybe, but remember, there were others wanting to pay for the tech too," Bruno said.
"You're right, Bruno. I suppose our next plan is to go to the facility and interrogate the man and woman we arrested," said Kalin.
"And hope they'll cooperate," Radley said.
"What will we do if they don't?" asked Leo.
"Then we'll have a problem," Crow said.
"Hopefully we can learn why they want Yusei's technology," said Akiza.
"They probably think they can profit off it," Crow said in disgust.
"We can't let tarnish Dr. Fudo's legacy!" growled Jack.
"We won't." Yusei sounded dangerously angry again.
"Are you alright, Yusei?" asked Akiza with a worried look on her face.
"I'm just sick of people trying to profit by hurting others," Yusei said. "We've worked too hard for this future!"
"Yeah! We can't let the future get destroyed! Especially by a bunch of petty criminals!" exclaimed Leo.
"And we're not going to," Yusei said.
"We need to be there for everyone-or as the kids say, superheroes," said Kalin.
Radley chuckled. "We will be," he said. "Everything will be alright."
"I hope so," smiled Kalin. "Let's go back to the garage and plan our next course of action."
They all headed back there.
"How did it go?" Jordan greeted them.
"We managed to arrest the restaurant worker and her boss!" exclaimed Jack.
"Yay! That's great!" West punched the air.
"We are going to speak to them tomorrow. We still need to know why they want the tech," said Kalin.
"I think the 'why' isn't as important as the fact that they do," Yusei said darkly. "There's no indication they want it for a good reason."
"What else should we ask them?" asked Akiza.
"We need to find out if they know who promised to get the tech for them," Yusei said. "They posted that they wanted it. The thugs who attacked us here were working for the one who promised to get them the tech."
"That person could be anywhere in New Domino!" exclaimed Jack. "Heck, he could even be somewhere else!"
"We still have to try to find out," Yusei said.
"I think we should rest up now and refresh our minds for the battle ahead," said Kalin.
"I agree," Radley said. "We've done a good day's work."
"I'm sure the restaurant's manager will fire her after news of this theft comes out. Not to mention they nearly injured innocents," said Kalin
"Yeah, if he's a decent person, he will," Yusei said.
"Or even if he isn't, it would be bad business sense to keep her on," Radley said.
"And the restaurant's image will get tarnished!" added Jack.
"Exactly," Radley said. "He wouldn't want that."
"I wonder if we should speak to him about this matter," said Akiza. "I know it may be painful, but we have to speak the truth."
"He probably already knows, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure," Radley said.
"Let's go there tomorrow morning," said Kalin.
"Yeah," Radley agreed.
"See you later, Yusei and Bruno," waved Kalin.
"See you tomorrow!" Bruno said.
Kalin, Radley, and the Bunch returned to their home in Satisfaction Town. The two men took turns showering the stench of the evil restaurant worker away and crashed into bed.
"Wow, what a day," sighed Kalin. "Do you have an idea of what to ask that tomorrow?"
"We need ask them why they need the tech," replied Radley.
"I wonder if this Christmas will get any crazier," said Kalin.
"Probably, knowing us," Radley chuckled.
"Speaking of crazy, you know how Nico and West keep calling us superheroes? What do you think of the way Bruno just transformed while we were fighting?" Kalin asked.
Radley chuckled. "I'm reminded of Scotch watching Sailor Moon."
Kalin couldn't resist laughing. "Scotch watched that show?"
"Sure," Radley said. "Still does."
"I wonder if Antinomy will help us out in the fights to come," Kalin stared at the window.
"I'm sure he will," Radley said.
"Well, we better go to bed now. We have another criminal interview tomorrow."
