Chapter 12 - Blood Revelations

Cursing his lack of information, Harry opened the door to his car and sat behind the steering wheel. Today was the day he was sure there was going to be an attack, he just couldn't work out where. After searching the ministerial records, Tonks had managed to swipe for him, Harry had finally come across Wallace Wesley West.

Wally lived on Durbridge Avenue, so the initials all matched, he's a muggleborn wizard currently living alone whilst working on a cure for a severe Dragon Pox like disease called "Griffin Fever."

Looking into his background the only reason he was an option, apart from him being muggleborn, was his initials. Harry had searched through variations of places with the initials "WWW" and "DA" with nothing to show for it, even the search through muggle records had found nothing.

Annoyed that he would most likely find out after the attack what he missed, he drove home in a foul mood. There was nothing worse than a mystery unsolved that would result in the loss of an innocent life, and Harry knew he had run out of time, sunset was two hours away.

Failure always left an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach, if the targets didn't get chance to defend themselves, who would find themselves without a parent or child tomorrow? Who would have to move on without their other half?

One thing he had learned after the war was dying was a lot easier than living, and he hadn't done either, all he was doing was surviving. Moving from one fight to the next, not necessarily looking for death, more a worthy one should it come.

Once he had parked outside Grimmauld Place, Harry walked straight to the gym on the top floor, without bothering to let anyone know of his arrival. He dropped his jacket onto a chair and put on a pair of sparring gloves, before setting to work on the punch bag hanging on the ceiling.

Mounds of pent up aggression had been taken out on the punch bag, it had been worn and fraying for years, today was the straw that broke the camels back. Not fifteen minutes, in the bag split, leaking sand all over the floor. 'Oh piss off!' Shouted Harry to no one in particular.

'You know there's spell to fix that. It's really easy, I'm sure you could pick it.' Came Ginny's amused voice from the doorway.

Harry whirled on her. 'Yeah one wave of a wand and all this would be solved, and we can go back to living in peace!'

Instead of getting offended, Ginny tilted her head at him with, bearing a worried expression. 'What's wrong?'

'There's going to be an attack tonight and I don't know where.' He spat, ripping his gloves off and throwing them to the ground. Breathing heavily, he averted his gaze from her and scowled at the wall to the right of him.

Ginny stepped up to him, before reaching up to cup his cheek and force his head too face her. 'You can't save everyone.'

She saw the anger flare in his grey eyes. Ginny had never seen eyes so colourless, despite this his emotions still spoke through them, bringing them to life in a way she had never seen.

'Doesn't mean I shouldn't try.' He growled, turning his back on her and walking forward a couple of steps.

Watching him carefully, Ginny allowed the silence to hover heavily between them, until it became unbearable. 'What's actually worrying you? You went through the war, there must have been times where you couldn't save someone.'

'Course there was, it's just that the people that die are usually the ones with the most to lose.'

'So, you think your life is meaningless?' She asked shocked.

'Not meaningless, just worth less than others.'

Ginny glared at the back of his head dangerously with both of her hands on her hips. 'You're not worth less than anyone else!'

He spun around. 'Aren't I? If I had died instead of Remus, Teddy would still have a father!'

'You can't blame yourself for that! It was years ago, anyway, Teddy is lucky you both didn't die!' She all but screamed, advancing upon him, stopping when they were nose to nose.

'Yeah, that's only true when I have actually been around!' Harry shouted back.

'Then be around more! That's up to you to be the father Remus would have been!'

'I don't know how.' He whispered defeated, letting his gaze drop from hers.

'Yes, you do, I think you do better than you realise.' When he didn't respond, she changed the subject to the initial reason she had come to find him 'We found something interesting at work today, Harry Potter was at the attack on Mad-Eyes.'

Harry's gaze immediately returned to capture her own, blazing again with curiosity, and something resembling panic. 'How do you know?' He asked sternly.

Digging into her pocket, Ginny pulled out a small vile. 'We ran analysis on this blood sample.'

'Since when do the Ministry use blood samples to match DNA, and how did they get his in the first place?'

'It was Hermione's idea to start using muggle methods ourselves. We had our doubts, but the methods have proven invaluable.' She said evenly. 'I think they matched it from DNA they had from the war.'

'Well bugger me.' Muttered Harry.

'I know you don't think Harry Potter is involved, this proves he is though, maybe the man you knew changed.'

'I'll bear it in mind.' He sighed. 'Maybe you're right.'

Smiling Ginny wrapped him in a hug that he awkwardly returned. 'Promise me you won't try and get yourself killed.'

'I promise.' He chuckled weakly.

'That's not one of those shitty promises you don't tend to keep is it?'

'Only one way to find out I suppose.'

'Git.' She chastised, slapping him on the arm. 'Right I'm off to Fred and George's for dinner I'll see you later.'

'Yeah see you later.' When she went to open the door, he called her back. 'Gin.' She half turned to face him. 'Thanks.'

'Anytime.' She smiled, before leaving the room.

Smiling to himself, Harry started to clean up the mess the punch bag had made. Then a thought hit him that turned his blood to ice. WWW, Oh shit Weasley Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley. Panicking Harry sprinted from the room, down the stairs, hoping he wasn't too late.

'GINNY!' He shouted, sprinting into the kitchen.

A startled Mrs Weasley looked up from the table where she was reading a book. 'She's just left dear, is something wrong?'

'Er, no don't worry Molly, I'm sure it will be fine,' Without waiting for an answer, he ran back up the stairs leaving a stunned Mrs Weasley behind. He hated lying to her when her children were in danger, however, he didn't have time to explain.

He burst into his room going straight to the wardrobe, reaching behind the clothes hanging up, his fingers found a box which was perched on a hidden shelf. Removing the box, he set it on the bed.

Trepidation filled him at the sight of the long black package, he thought he would never use its contents again, in fact he had intended not to. There was no going back now though, he would never get to the store in time by Muggle means, even the floo was out of the question, it was only hooked up to St Mungos.

Waving his hand over the box, Harry felt a surge of power rush through his palm and a small clicking noise escaped the box. It flipped open of its own accord revealing its contents, an 11-inch-long wand, made from holly with a single phoenix feather for its core.

Trembling fingers grasped the handle, which were immediately subject to an ice like burn. Hatred pulsated from the wand, making Harry have to fight down the urge to vomit, all he could think about were the unforgivable acts he had carried out with it.

Fighting against the despair, Harry started blocking out the memories of torture and killings he had carried out, by focusing on flying with Teddy and Ginny. The ice like feeling passed slowly, allowing some warmth to come back.

Shakily he raised the wand before him. 'Expecto Patronum.' A silver stag escaped from the wands tip and hurried out of the house to deliver a message.

Hoping he wasn't too late as the sun began to set, Harry hurried back down the stairs and out the front door. Without waiting for the door to click shut behind him, he turned on the spot and dissaparated.

He landed just outside the Leaky Cauldron, without skipping a beat, Harry ran through the doors into the crowded pub. He pushed and shoved his way through the crowd, desperate to reach the back of the pub. In his distress, he sent two men sprawling to the floor and a round of drinks flying from the table they were sitting on.

Someone reached to grab him from the crowd, without flinching, Harry broke their wrist. Having Entered the small courtyard, leaving the din behind him, Harry tapped on the brick wall to reveal Diagon Alley.

As the last bricks rolled away, lightning flashed through the sky, followed by the crack of rolling thunder. Experience left no room for hesitation, Harry ran through the alley towards Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, he was almost as the shop when robed figures appeared out of thin air.

Producing his wand and knife from his pockets, Harry pounced immediately. They hadn't had time to put the apparation barrier up when Harry turned on the spot, with a loud crack he appeared next to his first adversary, burying his knife in their neck. They were dead before they knew what happened.

Yanking the blade free, he spun to his left dodging the flash of green light that had sped towards him. Fuelling his emotions with his own self-loathing, Harry brought his wand up to the next target.

'Avada Kedavra!' the man didn't have time to react before the force of the spell threw him from his feet to the ground.

There were various yells and smashing noises coming from the shop and flat above, catching Harry's immediate attention.

Alohamora. He thought silently, pointing his wand at the shop's front door, the lock clicked allowing him entry inside. Silent as death himself, he glided into the darkness of the shop, which enveloped him like a favourite cloak.

The sound of a wall crumbling came from the back of the shop, two people stepped through the opening obviously not expecting much of a fight, they hadn't raised their wands before Harry stunned and bound the pair from the shadows.

Moving with a wraithlike presence Harry ascended the stairs towards the flat above the shop. He arrived on the landing just as a hooded figure raised their wands to the back of a stocky red-headed man, who was vigorously duelling against an unseen adversary.

A flash of green light and the hooded woman knew no more.

'Arrhhhhh!' The other twin's blood curdling scream erupted from a room to Harry's right. distracted, his brother turned to look behind him and was caught by a cutting curse to the chest, for letting his guard down.

Springing into action Harry waved his wand transporting the twin, George he thought, who had been hit with the cutting curse away from further danger. He burst through the opening to the sitting room and found himself immediately engaged in battle.

After neatly blocking a cutting curse, he was forced to dive behind a sofa to avoid the killing curse that followed. 'Depulso!' Harry shouted pointing his wand at his newfound shelter, the settee was thrown at the man he was duelling who banished it before it hit him.

'Stupefy!' Shouted Harry, catching the man in the chest.

Returning to his feet, he rushed back into the flat towards the room he had heard Fred's scream from earlier. It was one of the twins' bedrooms, Ginny duelling against two furiously as she protected Fred's collapsed form.

Her wand was a blur as she traded blows with her opponents, there was a sheen of sweat across her brow, and her hair was flying around her.

With a cry of triumph, she stunned one of them causing them to collapse against the wall. Noticing his disadvantage the other pointed his wand at the floor. 'Confringo.' Then jumped from the window.

The explosion hit just as Harry ran into the room, so he had no time to react as the three of them fell into the shop below, there was a sickening crack and a wounded yelp escaped Ginny's lips.

Winded, Harry crawled his way over to her and George. 'Ginny are you alright?'

'Harry?' She gasped.

'FRED, GEORGE, GINNY, YOU IN THERE?' Bellowed Bill as he walked into the shop wand at the ready, Tonks was just behind him.

'We're here.' Said Harry, managing to stand to his feet. 'Check on George, he was hit by a cutting curse he's still upstairs.' Bill nodded and hurried through to the stairs. 'Tonks, there's two dead outside, one dead upstairs, two stunned downstairs and two stunned upstairs. Can you deal with them please and ready the ones alive for questioning?'

'Sure Harry.' Said Tonks, she bustled off to gather the live ones first.

Wobbly, Harry walked over to the other two. Fred was still knocked out, however, that seemed to be the worse of the damage. Ginny was another matter, her left ankle was twisted oddly and she had a large splinter of wood producing from her shoulder.

Harry crouched down in front of her and tentatively helped her into a sitting position. 'You need to go to St Mungos.'

'No. No, hospitals.' She said wheezily, struggling for every breath.

'What?' He asked incredulously.

'Please, I, hate, them. Remind, me, of, chamber.'

Her eyes lost focus for a second. 'Ginny.' Said Harry clicking his fingers in front of her.

Some of her focus returned but she didn't respond. 'Ok this is going to hurt.' He told her. 'I'm no expert healer, however, I know enough to have you back on your feet by the morning ok?'

Ginny nodded, her eyes drooping. Shit, she's going to pass out. 'I need you to stay with me Ginny.'

She smiled faintly at him. 'Have, you, got, anything, for the, pain?' She asked through gritted teeth.

'No all I can do is distract you from it.'

'How?'

'I don't know is there anything you would like to know?' As they talked he cast a series of diagnostic spells, wordlessly, on her major injuries.

'How, did, you, know, about, the attack?'

'I told you I had a clue, when you said you were coming here it clicked. I thought I was looking for the initials of a person and place to match "WWW" and "DA" whereas they were actually two places. The shop and Diagon Alley. I'm sorry I couldn't get here sooner.'

'It's OWWW, you bastard!' She thumped his chest as her ankle snapped back into place. 'You could have warned me.' She grumbled glaring at him. He just chuckled slightly. 'You're enjoying this aren't you.' She accused.

He sobered immediately, his steely gaze returning. 'Never accuse me of enjoying seeing those I care about in pain Ginny.' He said quietly. 'You couldn't be more wrong.'

Ginny sighed. 'I know, I'm sorry.'

Harry shrugged, then frowned at the piece of timber sticking out of her shoulder. 'Do you want to be asleep for the next bit or a numbing charm?'

'Why didn't, you use, a numbing charm, on my ankle?'

'I did, your shoulder will probably be worse.'

She paled even as a look of gritty determination passed over her. 'The numbing spell.'

'You sure?' She nodded. 'I need you to keep still then.'

'Ok what do I get for being good? I bet you don't hand out lollipops like the healers used to.'

Harry stared her in the eye, Ginny felt like he was judging her somehow. Something in his gaze shifted and she had a feeling she had passed whatever test he was pitting her against. 'If your good I'll tell you my secret.'

'Seriously?'

Harry smiled crookedly. 'Seriously.' He confirmed as she slipped into unconsciousness. Now that his patient was asleep, Harry could work on the injury without hinderance. He had just finished sewing the skin back up with magic when the Aurors arrived.

'What happened?' Demanded a round faced man, as he entered the shop, seeing Harry crouching over Ginny.

'The shop was attacked by the same people who have been attacking old members of the Order of the Phoenix. Ginny, George and Fred are all injured.'

'We need to get them to the hospital.'

'Nah, she refused to go.' Said Harry gesturing at Ginny. 'I've patched her up, she'll be right as rain tomorrow. Fred is fine, just knocked out and George is upstairs, it's him I'm most worried about.'

'Where are we going to send them then?'

'They can go to my place. Ginny and her parents have been living there for almost a month since the Burrow was burned down.'

'And where's that?' Asked the man.

'Nowhere I'm telling you.' Harry stated flatly, conjuring a stretcher each for Ginny and Fred to lie on. As the two spoke the other Aurors started poking around at the destruction.

'Harry, what do you want me to do with the ones you captured?' Asked Tonks, coming back down from upstairs. 'Wotcher Neville, when did you get here?'

'Just a minute ago.' Replied the man Harry was talking to.

'The Aurors can have them, but I want to interrogate one of them first.'

Neville looked furious 'I don't'

'I have jurisdiction here.' Interrupted Harry pulling out his badge. 'This is my case, I will interrogate the suspects as I see fit'

The Auror stared at the badge incredulously 'You work for the muggle government? But you're a wizard.'

'What's your point?' Growled Harry.

'Well, well, well, what do we have here?' Drawled a voice.

Harry shot to his feet. 'Fuck off Malfoy, death eaters aren't welcome here.' With a face of fury Malfoy went for his wand like their last meeting, Harry didn't give him chance to draw it.

Quick as a flash Harry was upon the blonde-haired man, one swift punch to the stomach left Malfoy winded. Gasping for air Malfoy released his grip on his wand before it could be drawn and had to lean heavily on Harry who momentarily supported him so that he could whisper a warning.

'If you're involved in these attacks, I would start running. I'm coming for you Malfoy and I don't need to stand you on trial.' He whispered venomously. 'Now get out of here.' He pushed him towards the door where Malfoy hobbled outside to a point where he could dissaparate.

'You shouldn't have done that.' Said Tonks chirpily.

'He's got more coming to him, take Ginny and the twins home Tonks so they can recover, I'll finish up here.'

'No, I'll stick around, can't have you fighting with all the Aurors.' She said nonchalantly. 'Bill can take them he's coming now.'

'I still want to know where you're taking them.' Said Neville.

'Tough luck Neville, that's not my call to make, it's his.' She said elbowing Harry lightly.

'Sir,' interrupted one of the Aurors who had been taking a look at the damages. 'There are four stunned and three dead, what do you want to do with them.'

'Take the dead to the morgue, they will need an autopsy and identifying.'

'And what of the prisoners?'

'They will be placed on trial, after that man has interrogated one of them.' Neville said glaring at Harry, who was now organising getting the three injured Weasleys home with Bill.

'That's not protocol, he's not an Auror.'

'I know, he works for the muggle government, which means he does have jurisdiction here.'

'How we're in the wizarding world?'

'I've heard there have been attacks in the muggle world, he must have followed the trail here somehow.'

The other Auror blew out a whistle. 'Merlin, we could use him.'

'You're not wrong Pattison, you're not wrong.'

They watched in silence as Bill levitated his three siblings out of the shop to the apparation point, then Tonks and Harry wondered over to them. 'You ready?' Asked Tonks with bated breath.

'Sure.' Answered Neville with a nod. 'Let's get this over with.'

They walked over to the four bound men who, whilst still unconscious, were guarded by two Aurors. 'Would you like us to wake them up sir?' Asked the larger of the two guards gruffly.

Before Neville could answer Harry beat him to it. 'No hang on.' Without waiting for a response Harry walked over to the four of them. Crouching down in front of the first one, he opened their mouth roughly and stuck his hand inside.

'That's grim Harry.' Said Tonks in a disgusted voice.

Ignoring her, Harry tested each tooth until he came to a false one, carefully, he pulled it out so that he didn't crack it and release the poison inside. He held it out to the Aurors. 'You best take these, they are filled with poison. Show them to your Aurors, so when they catch any of this group, they know to take them out.'

'Ok.' Agreed Neville, who levitated the tooth off Harry's hand and into an evidence bag. Harry then repeated the process with the other prisoners. Once the fake teeth were all collected Harry indicated for the first one to be woken up.

He woke back up slowly, seemingly disorientated. In order to speed up the waking process Harry, not all too gently, slapped him either side of the face. The man's greasy hair flapped about his face before his eyes snapped into focus.

'Who do you work for?' Asked Harry edgily.

'Harry Potter.' The Aurors behind Harry all shifted angrily.

'Bollocks.' Spat Harry, he was getting annoyed now, he toyed with his wand wondering how far he would need to go. 'I know you don't work for Potter, now who do you work for.'

'Harry. Potter.' The man said with gritted teeth, before trying to bite down on something. His eyes widened in horror.

Harry smirked triumphantly at him. 'Oh, I know all about your fake tooth trick. So, I ask again, who do you work for?'

'You won't get anything from me Auror!'

'Oh, I'm no Auror.' Said Harry darkly, raising his wand. 'Legilimens.' Foreign memories overtook Harry's senses, he was shown a reel of images from the man's past even enough to learn his name, Frederik Brooks.

Brooks' mind was well organised and would have been tough to break into for most legilimens, still, thanks to Dumbledore's teaching it proved no obstacle to Harry. At will he shifted through the memories until he came to a meeting.

A group of hooded people were gathered in a large hall, all looking towards a platform at the front of the room. The room was deadly silent, you could have heard a pin drop. There was a loud crack which broke the silence.

Appearing out of thin air, a man of medium height appeared on the platform, his unruly black hair and glasses looked all too familiar to Harry. The most worrying point was the thin lightning bolt scar on his forehead. If anyone had never met Harry and met whoever this man was in the street, they would definitely think he was Harry Potter instead.

No wonder they all say they work for me, they actually believe he is me.

He pulled out of Brooks' memory in a state of shock, without really processing his own actions, he stunned the man. When he had remained silently comprehending the memories he saw for too long, Tonks' voice cut through his broodings.

'What did you see?'

Harry turned to face her, his face pale. 'I saw who they are working for.'

Frustrated that he didn't continue Tonks snapped irritably at him. 'Well? Who was it?'

'Harry Potter.'
