Hi! Welcome to my first fanfiction, I'm starting with overlord since it's one of my favourite anime/manga/ LN. This story is about what if Ainz met a member of the black scripture when he went to save Carne. Thanks a lot to Zamscott for the idea. If I didn't pick your idea please don't worry for I may turn it into a story in the future!
Chapter 1: Lament
Yggdrasil, the DMMO-RPG (Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) has finally reached its end. It's been 12 long years since it first became a global phenomenon. Many guilds have been established and many world enemies have fallen. But now the time of its death has arrived.
The most infamous of these guilds was Ainz Ooal Gown, which in its glory days was the bane of all humanoid players. Among their ranks numbered 41 of the most powerful and feared players, all of them heteromorphs of the highest caliber. Now, one hour before its shutdown only two players remained, the guild master Momonga and the Elder Black Ooze Herohero.
[Momonga] "Thanks again for coming, it's been a while since I've seen anyone else."
Momonga's voice echoed through the empty tomb, a hint of sadness tinging his words.
[Herohero] "Think nothing about it man, it's the least I could do. Though I'm amazed at the state of the tomb, it's even more magnificent than the day we conquered it."
Herohero responded in an amazed tone, although tiredness weighed down every word like an anvil.
[Momonga] "Thanks man, I really appreciate it. This place is filled with so many precious memories. I couldn't stand to see it decay."
[Herohero] "Being guild master suited you, my friend. I couldn't imagine anyone else in your position."
[Momonga] "Are you planning on staying until the end?"
[Herohero] "No, sadly I have to sleep the moment I get off if I plan on getting to work on time."
Herohero's response devastated Momonga, who had been hoping for one last chance to talk with his friend.
[Momonga] "Ah that's a shame. Your bosses are working you to death aren't they?"
Memories flashed through Momonga's mind as he remembered all the times that Herohero couldn't join in Guild activities since he was at work.
[Herohero] "Yeah, I feel like I might actually die if things stay like this."
[Herohero] "It's been fun my friend, really fun. Maybe we could all get together if Yggdrasil 2.0 comes out."
Sensing Momonga's despair, Herohero spoke up, trying to give Momonga some hope.
[Herohero] "Oh look at the time! I'm sorry Momonga but I have to go, it's almost midnight."
An emoticon with a sad face popped up next to him as he prepared to leave.
[Herohero] "See you later Momonga".
Herohero looked back, his face expressionless but his voice containing a hint of sorrow in his voice. They both knew that the chances of a Yggdrasil 2.0 coming out are next to none.
[Momonga] "See you later, my friend."
As Herohero's form flickered and vanished, Momonga slumped down onto the table.
'See you later? When will that be?! We don't even have each other's phone numbers!'
Momonga screamed, his voice echoing hollowly through the empty tomb. Now all that was left to him was to wait for an answer from someone who he will almost definitely never see again.
[Momonga] "Don't think like that Suzuki, he at least came to say goodbye. It's not like he abandoned the guild. No one had the choice to choose between a game and reality, that's just how life is. At least we had fun while it lasted."
Momonga said, trying desperately to comfort himself.
After standing up and having one last look at the table in which so many wonderful meetings had taken place, Momonga reached into his inventory and grabbed the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown.
[Momonga] "It feels wrong to take the guild weapon out of its display case, but it's the last day, what harm is there in doing so?"
It had taken weeks for the members of Ainz Ooal Gown to gather enough materials for the staff. They had even made competitions from it, seeing who could gather the most materials in a limited amount of time, or who could get the rarest ones.
It seemed to be made from pure gold, but if you looked closer you could see that it was made from condensed scales of the World Eater. Its golden hue came from Shards of the Heart of the World Tree. At its peak were seven snakes holding gems, each one of which contained unfathomable power. Eachone had been obtained only after defeating a world boss. Occasionally it emitted a dark aura which was composed of the souls of the damned, forever trapped within the staff.
After exiting the room Momonga took notice of 7 figures standing to the side.
[Momonga]"What were they called again?"
Momonga opened the guild menu, searching for their names.
[Momonga] "Ah yes, the last line of defense within the tomb, the Pleiades battle maids. Too bad, they never even got to fight."
Momonga thought fondly back to one of the most glorious events of Nazarick, the day they had been attacked by the largest raid within the history of Yggdrasil. 1500 Players stormed the great tomb hoping to destroy Ainz Ooal Gown once and for all. All had been wiped out before they even got to the ninth floor.
[Momonga] "Follow"
Momonga commanded, the Pleiades obeyed.
Momonga rarely wandered the tomb. There was no need to. After all, he had the Ring of Ainz Ooal Gown, which allowed him to teleport anywhere within the tomb.
As he made his way to the throne room he took notice of the impressive details of the corridor, the ceiling, and furniture. The walls were made of marble of the highest order and were as white and pure as the gates of heaven.
The ceiling was full of chandeliers, all of which were made from the purest and clearest crystal. Momonga remembered when they constructed them after Ulbert told them about his overflowing stash of crystals. Each crystal glowed with a warm inner light, the radiance bursting out from the many facets of the crystals. There was no need for them to hold lightbulbs or candles, for each crystal had been individually enchanted with the 5th Tier spell [Continual Light]. The floor was laced with a red carpet made from the silk of the greek god Arachne.
After several minutes of walking, Momonga opened the door which separated him and the throne room. Though he called it a door it was more akin to a majestic castle gate. It easily reached 16 feet into the air, and depicted an angel as pure as the night sky on the left and a devil that seemed to have spawned from the depths of hell on the right. Its creator, Luci*Fer was always one for details.
After opening it, Momonga was greeted with a room that could easily fit more than 1000 people inside. If you looked up you could barely see the ceiling that soared more than 300 ft above the ground. Leading up to the throne were 41 pillars, each with a banner representing a member of the guild. As Momonga got closer to the throne all the memories from the start of the guild up until now came flooding in. If the game had permitted it tears would have been flowing softly down his face.
As he took his rightful seat upon the throne of kings the guild master of Ainz Ooal Gown patiently awaited Ragnarok- the end of the Nine Realms of Yggdrasil. Beside him was his faithful Guardian Overseer Albedo, the highest-ranking NPC in Nazarick.
[Momonga] "Tabula created this one didn't he".
Momonga mused to himself as he took a look at her backstory. He quickly skimmed through the text until he reached the end.
[Momonga] "HUH!?"
Momonga jolted upright in surprise, stunned at what he had just read. He didn't think that his guildmate would have written such a thing into Albedo's profile.
He decided to double-check to make sure that he didn't misread anything.
[Momonga] " … "
Though it did make sense as Albedo was a succubus, Momonga was surprised nonetheless. After calming himself, Momonga decided to delete that sentence as it felt wrong to have one of their creations be a "bitch"."
[Momonga] "Done, though it does feel wrong messing with Tabula's NPC it's something that I feel is for the better. Oh well, in the end, it doesn't matter either way. The NPCs will just be deleted when the servers are shut down."
Momonga looked over at his in-game clock positioned at the top right of his screen.
[Momonga] "Huh, it seems I made it just in time."
Seated in the magnificent throne of Nazarick, Momonga let his thoughts wander to his life outside Yggdrasil. He was an office worker who got paid so little that he could barely afford to pay for food some weeks. If someone wanted to go outside they would need to wear a mask to prevent them from suffocating in Earth's now toxic atmosphere. It was a cruel world outside.
Yggdrasil had always been the reason he woke up; it had been the only thing that had motivated him to keep surviving during the long, hard days at work. Without it, Momonga had nothing to live for.
Darker thoughts began to swirl through Momonga's head like dark storm clouds filling the horizon, foretelling that there would never again be a sunny day; never again a happy moment. As he watched the clock tick down to the end of this world- no, the end of HIS world- he couldn't help but give voice to his darkest thoughts.
[Momonga] "Maybe I should just end it after the servers shut down."
A bitter laugh burst out of him.
[Momonga] "After all, it's not like anyone would notice- or that they would even care if they did."

23:57:23
[Momonga] "I still can't believe that everything we have built in these last 12 years will be destroyed in mere minutes."
23:58:09
23:58:37

[Momonga] "I will miss this place, I really will."

[Momonga] "Goodbye, Yggdrasil."
And with that, chapter one is done. I know that it's not much but I am planning on updating it a lot so don't worry. Hope you enjoyed!
Max from the future here. I have decided to combine chapter 1 & 2 into a singular chapter since 1 & 2, now ch1 kinda go together. I am also going to be editing some chapters & probably add a prologue.
Max from further into the future here! After some editing with ExcitablesSpren we have finally finished the edited version of chapter 1 (this chapter)
