Momonga had spent days inside his personal quarters, the passage of time completely lost to him. His room was coated with furniture, most of it was made from fine pine wood gathered in Vanaheim. Obtaining said wood was rather difficult for Momonga, at that time Nazarick was still being renovated. Thanks to that, many of the guild's members were busy farming materials for their own floors. This caused Momonga to venture out alone into Yggdrasil's other realms. For example, Ulbert, Luci*Fer and Bellriver were constructing the 7th floor while Yamaiko, Herohero and Punitto Moe were planning the layout for the 8th.
Momonga had designed his room so that the light that managed to get inside was swallowed by the darkness that forever stalked the room. The only thing that could be seen were the silhouettes of the paintings that hung on the wall.
Momonga had been practicing his kingly demeanour for hours without end. Momonga knew that someone would eventually call for him and wanted to be prepared. Making any mistake in front of the guardians would spell nothing but disaster. Out of nowhere a chime rang throughout the insides of Momonga's head. Momonga knew that this was a [Message] Spell though he didn't know who initiated it.
[Lord Momonga?] When Momonga answered the call he was greeted by a soft and elderly voice.
[Yes? What is it Sebas?] Momonga's deep voiced replied to the butler.
[Forgive me if I am disturbing you my lord, but Lord Demiurge wishes to give you the full report on the state of the tomb.]
Momonga had completely forgotten to check if everything inside the tomb was in order, thankfully it seemed as if Demiurge had already thought of that.
[Tell him that I'll be there in just a minute"] Momonga sat up from his bed and walked over towards his office, the only thing that divided his room and his workplace was nothing but a tall, obsidian door.
As soon as he sat right behind his desk, Increment, one of the tomb's homunculus maids opened the door, letting Demiurge in.
"Ah, Demiurge, I hear that you come to me with news." Momonga inquired.
"It is as you say my lord. Every guardian has written a full report on the status of their floors. I have also acquired news in regards to Mare's task."
Demiurge was in his usual attire, a striped red business suit with a crimson red tie. His spiky black hair contrasted his heavenly white gloves.
"Wonderful, I expect nothing less of you Demiurge, always thinking ahead." Momonga praised the guardian of the 7th floor.
"You flatter me my lord, I am only doing as my post requires of me." Though acting calm, his tail gently swayed behind him in response to his lord's praise.
The way that the NPCs came to life intrigued Momonga. He wondered if they remember the many raids that they helped to deter. If so, then some of the NPCs must know that they have died at least once before. That very thought made Momonga sick. For Momonga and his guildmates, Yggdrasil was just a game, but to the NPCs it was reality. Momonga remembered that when Seraphim attacked Nazarick the guardians fell one by one. He imagined the pain that they must have felt, they died for his sake, for Ainz Ooal Gown's sake.
Then Demiurge spoke once more, bringing Momonga back to reality.
"I have also spoken with Neuronist, it seems that she has managed to extract a lot of information from out 'guest'. Everything answer that insect gave us has been written in this piece of paper along with their corresponding questions"
Demiurge's grin grew wider the moment that he spoke about their prisoner.
"Excellent, could you report me her findings after summarising the guardian's reports?" Momonga couldn't wait to find out what secrets the theocracy held.
"It would be a pleasure." Demiurge gave a light bow as he said this.
Momonga nodded.
Demiurge proceeded to speak, understanding the hidden meaning behind his master's action.
"Everything within Shalltear's domain seems to be in order. The only thing that stands out is the growing number of undead that roam the mausoleum. Though they aren't Nazarick's summons, they seem to follow orders. Every Area Guardian within the 4th floor has stated that everything is as it should be. Gargantua still remains in deep slumber at the bottom of Lake Valor. Cocytus and him minions have patrolled the entirety of the 5th floor in search of anomalies, they haven't found any so far. The twins have searched the Caelestis forest for any irregularities, everything seems to be as it should. In regards to the 7th floor, I have tasked many high levelled demons with patrolling the area. If any intruders are found then we shall be informed immediately."
Demiurge took a deep breath before talking again.
"Now, onto Mare's assignment. He is almost done surrounding the external mausoleum in vegetation, he decided to summon some druids to assist him with the hills and mounds. After they are done, I'm planning on filling them with a couple of Death Knights, though low level summons, their special ability makes them invaluable. Aura's assisting her brother by patrolling the tomb's surroundings, if any intruder is found she will capture them with the help of her beasts."
Before Demiurge could continue with his report his benevolent master spoke. The voice of the overlord was unlike any other, it was deep but soft at the same time.
"Wonderful, please remind me to reward them for their hard work. Without their efforts we would be in plain sight, an easy target."
Momonga was glad that he had such independent subordinates. Back in his old world, his coworkers always made him do extra work. It was tiresome, Momonga had to spend many hours finishing the work that was laid on top of him. If he didn't 'assist' them, his coworkers would file a complaint about 'how he never worked' and 'always forced his work on them'. He knew this because it had already happened to him before, that was the reason that he was fired from his previous job as an accountant.
"Last but not least is Neuronist's report. Her interrogation has been a complete success, we have gained a large amount of information about the theocracy's military, history and national secrets. I have summed up all of the information within this folder, would you like me to hand it over to Albedo or would you prefer if I left it on your desk?"
The folder that Demiurge was holding was obtained from Ashurbanipal, the library of the supreme beings. Ashurbanipal held books of unfathomable power written by the supreme beings themselves. Many of the guild's masters spent days within the library filling it with their knowledge. Ashurbanipal had many sections such as, Lady Bukubukuchagama's 'Happy Corner' or Lord Peroroncino's 'Ero World'.
"Speaking of Albedo, where is she at the Moment?"
Momonga hadn't seen the Guardian Overseer since the meeting on the 6th floor.
"Albedo is currently overseeing many of Nazarick's denizens. Since the tomb is currently in an unknown situation, she thought it was best to assign roles to everyone. about a third of the denizens who posses the ability Night Vision have been reassigned to guard Nazarick's exterior during nightfall."
Momonga thought about how hard everyone within the tomb was working. He felt like he was freeloading off their efforts.
"Great, when you see her tell her that I am grateful for her hard work. In regards to Neuronist's report, hand it over to Sebas, I'll make sure to read it before the day ends."
Sebas took a step forward and extended his gloved hand towards Demiurge. The Dragonoid and the Archdevil didn't get along very well, this was thanks to the relationship between their creators. Demiurge's creator, Ulbert, was the epitome of evil. Whenever he had the chance he would always cause a little mischief. There was one time where Ainz Ooal Gown had raided one of their opposing guilds, Trinity.
Trinity was located in Midgard which made it an extremely difficult raid. Midgard was infested with human cities and fortresses. One of these cities was where Trinity was located. Their guild stood right in the midst of Caeli Porta, one of Midgard's biggest domains. The plan was to simply travel through the tunnels that laid beneath the great city, slaughtering any who discovered their presence. But Ulbert decided to start the raid a little early. The demon flew up into the air and activated one of his special skills, The Tears of Gehenna. The moment he activated this ability hundreds of meteors fell upon the great city, the amount of civilian deaths that he gained after his little stunt managed to get him the title of World Disaster. This gathered the attention of many Trinity members and gave Momonga's raid party an opportunity, they managed to infiltrate Trinity's base without them noticing. After that they managed to destroy the guild weapon, crippling Trinity as a whole.
Sebas's creator, Touch Me was a different story, if Ulbert was the master of Hell then Touch Me was the sovereign of Heaven. He always helped those in need, that was the reason why Momonga managed to join Nine's Own Goal, the precursor of Ainz Ooal Gown. The divide between species was something that was always present in Yggdrasil. Heteromorph players were always hunted down by humanoid players, this was the reason in which Ainz Ooal Gown was established, to be a safe haven for none-humans. There was one time when Touch Me and Momonga ran into a demihuman, she belonged to a guild called Kitty Kingdom. Kitty Kingdom had an alliance with almost every guild, human or none human. They were generally nice people, assisting people who needed help. She was being hunted by an assortment of players. When Momonga and Touch Me ran into her, Momonga's companion fended off the group of players by himself. Touch Me always helped someone who was in need, no matter the circumstances.
After reminiscing about the past, Momonga decided to leave his office and get some fresh air.
"Once again, I thank you for your hard work Demiurge. I think I should go get some fresh air, would you like to accompany me?" The Overlord asked the Archdevil.
"It would be an honor to accompany one such as yourself, lord Momonga." Demiurge's tail seemed to have gained an extreme amount of energy after being proposed such an offer.
"Well then, we'll be taking our leave Sebas." Momonga addressed the head butler.
"[Gate]" Without saying another word the duo exited the guild master's office.
When Momonga exited the void-like portal he was met with a gentle breeze. When he looked up, his gaze was met with the glittering night sky, the stars took the form of glistening diamonds bathing in the moonlight. When he looked around he saw many beings, most had inhuman appendages. When they caught sight of their lord, they either bowed or genuflected.
"[Fly]" Momonga unconsciously casted this spell and flew up into the air, completely entranced by the beauty that surrounded him.
Not too far behind, Demiurge spread his wings to follow his master.
"It's beautiful isn't it, I believe Blue Planet would've loved such a sight." Momonga looked down towards the forest east of Nazarick. He could see as the trees gently swung from side to side. The moon was unlike anything he had seen before, the light emanating from it swallowed the darkness that plagued the night sky.
"Indeed it is, I believe that this world shines so that you may adorn yourself with its riches my lord."
Momonga turned towards the demon.
"you may be correct, I may have come to this world to claim this box of jewels."
"Demiurge, did you know that there was another world that the members of Ainz Ooal Gown and I 'visited' before going to Yggdrasil? The humans there destroyed everything that surrounded them. Their machines infected the environment with chemicals that devastated the land. Smoke infested the air, completely blocking out the sunlight that they desperately needed. One couldn't even go outside without wearing a mask, if they did they would slowly die a painful death."
"Maybe if I ruled this world no one would have to suffer the way that we did." Momonga spoke in a soft tone, his words enveloped in melancholy.
Little did the undead overlord know, Demiurge took his words to heart.
After silence swallowed the pair, a soft and shallow noise could be heard. Momonga looked down only to see the earth moving, large mounds of soil moved towards Nazarick's walls. Momonga started to descend, Demiurge right behind him. After a couple of seconds the duo's feet made contact with the smooth marble floor.
"L-Lord Momonga! Did I do something wrong?" The one who spoke was Mare, one of the two guardians that watched over the 6th floor.
Momonga chuckled
"No, not at all. In fact, I came here to praise you on your progress." Momonga walked closer towards the dark elf.
"I-Is that so? Thank y-you my lord!" Mare looked down, his cheeks turned the color of a freshly picked strawberry.
"Don't mention it, here I have a gift for you, it will help you with your progress."
Momonga extended his hand to the side, as a result a reality shattering rift appeared and swallowed said hand. After a moment Momonga retracted his hand from the dark rift.
"Here, this item is called GAIA's blessing, it's a divine class item that strengthens a druids magic by 50%. I am sure that this will come in handy." GAIA's blessing was a bracelet composed of a heavenly white string, embedded into the string were leaves gathered from the Garden of Eden.
"M-My lord! Why are you giving an item such as this to me?!" Mare spoke with a worried tone, thinking that his master had made a mistake.
"It's simple Mare, our benevolent lord cares for us, all the supreme beings do, even if they are gone."
Momonga looked towards the speaker, she was dressed in a pure white dress with frills at the end, the area that covered her collar bone was embedded with a golden string the shape of a spiderweb. Spurting right out of her temples were two marble coloured horns. Her smooth, raven black hair reached her thin hourglass shaped waist where a pair of dark wings laid.
"Ah Albedo, I want to thank you as well for handling Nazarick's denizens." Momonga took the chance to praise the overseer for her work.
"It was a pleasure my lord." Albedo took a slight bow.
Before anyone could say anything else Momonga received a [Message] for the second time that day.
