Two days later
''Britty!'' Diego screams with a big smile as he sees the blonde walking into his class, Brittany laughs as he takes a running jump into her arms and easily catches him kissing the top of his head.
Hey buddy She signs smiling lovingly, she taps his leg as he easily settles on her hip and turns to his teacher as they walk over to them carrying Diego's backpack. ''Hello Miss Trey.''
''Hello Miss Pierce.'' Miss Trey replies with a flirting smile, Diego frowns as he feels Brittany tense and pulls back looking up at her in confusion. Brittany sighs inwardly seeing the confusion on Diego's face and kisses his head once again, she takes the bag from Miss Trey and forces a smile.
''Does he have any homework to be done by tomorrow?''
Miss Trey shakes her head still wearing the flirty smile and reaches out trying to run her hand down Brittany's arm frowning inwardly as she immediately takes a step back to put some more distance between them. ''No but we have a career day planned on Friday, there is a note in his backpack which will contain are bit more info's.'' She slightly nods her head to the boy cuddled into Brittany and smiles lovingly. ''Diego asked if you could join too stating that you write about sports and that you are a former soldier, we already have someone writing something newspaper related but we would love for you to join us as a soldier and tell the class a bit about your former career.''
She takes a step closer and smirks. ''I wouldn't say no to seeing you in a uniform either.''
Brittany adjusts her hold on Diego handing him his backpack and sighs. ''Yeah I will decide spontaneously if I will join or not, Santana will be there though.'' She informs his teacher knowing her girlfriend wouldn't pass up on entertaining little kids with her talent, she looks down at Diego and smiles lovingly. Want me and your mami to join Friday? She laughs as he excitedly nods his head and looks up at Miss Trey. ''Alright he decided, I will be there too.'' She informs her. ''But I will take him home now, see you tomorrow.''
She turns on her heels before Miss Trey can utter more than a goodbye and walks out of the classroom, she places Diego down as soon as the door close behind them knowing he prefers leading her out of the building and takes a hold of his hand chuckling as he immediately pulls her towards the exit.
''Where is mami, Britty?'' Diego asks cutely tilting his head back to look up at her, Brittany unlocks her car opening the door for him and helps him climb in tapping his nose after she helped him buckle in.
Working at home, she was still so busy that I offered to pick you up and that we would grab some dinner on our way back.
Diego nods his head with a big grin and watches her walk around the car, he tilts his head as she slides into the drivers seat and grabs his teddy as soon as she holds it out for her knowing his stuffy little friend drives with her on the dashboard whenever he isn't driving with her. ''What will we eat?''
Brittany turns in her seat and shrugs. No idea buddy but we need some more groceries, what would you like for dinner?
''Mac and cheese!'' Diego exclaims immediately. ''Mami loves mac and cheese after working a lot.''
Brittany smiles lovingly and nods. Mac and cheese it is. She turns back in her seat pulling out of the parking lot and drives down the road glancing in the rear view mirror, she smiles lovingly as Diego immediately focuses on playing with his teddy bear knowing communicating in the car without her being able to turn around to sign is impossible and turns back to the road.
She taps her radio to bring it to life while navigating them through the busy streets and sighs. ''Hey Siri, send a text to baby.''
What should I send?
''On our way to the grocery store around the corner, do we need anything else? I have milk, cereal, flour and water on the list.''
She parks her car in front of the grocery store as Siri repeats the message and taps confirm, she takes off her seat belt making sure to put her phone on loud and shoves it into her pocket. She turns in her seat and gently taps Diego's leg nodding her head to the store, she smiles as he immediately takes off his seat belt and slides out of the car walking around it to help him out.
She places him into the shopping cart smiling as he takes a hold of her hand while she pushes him and takes out her phone with her free hand as it beeps, she opens Santana's text and bites her lip with a frown as she reads her reply.
Bananas, Lemons, chocolate and tea please
She sighs softly immediately knowing what that means and sends her a reply that she will buy it and that Santana should take a shower and change into something comfy, she shoves her phone back into her pocket and walks through the shop grabbing the items on the list and the things Santana needs.
She looks down at Diego tapping his hand as she glances in the cart and smiles as he looks up at her with a big grin. Do you need anything for school D?
Snacks! Diego signs excitedly, she laughs pushing him over to that section and mentions her hand at the snacks.
Pick two. She tells him knowing that will be enough for the whole week, she watches him stand up in the cart and carefully pushes him closer so he can take a better look and pick what he wants.
She smiles lovingly as he picks out his favorite chocolate granola bars and nods her head as he holds up a bag with chocolate covered pretzels silently telling him that he can choose that too, she watches him place them carefully in the cart and ruffles his hair. Your mami isn't feeling well, anything we can buy to make her feel better? She shakes her head as he immediately looks worried and smiles reassuringly. Nothing bad sweetheart, she will need a bit of cuddles to feel better though.
Diego nods his head immediately feeling relieved and smiles brightly. Ice cream? He giggles as Brittany immediately nods her head walking over to the freezer section and nods his head with a big smile as she holds up a small pint of blue ice cream, he watches her dig through the freezer and smiles as he sees her picking his mami's favorite ice cream.
Anything else?' Brittany asks as she looks in the cart, Diego looks at the groceries she piled up so he can still sit comfortably and shakes his head silently telling her that they don't need more. Brittany also nods rolling them over to the check out and walks around the cart kissing the top of his head as she places everything on the band, she takes out her wallet smiling lovingly as Diego helps her loading everything back into the cart and hands the cashier her credit card.
After packing the groceries in the bag and bringing the cart bag she unlocks her car carrying the bags in one hand and Diego on her other hip and opens the car door, she drops Diego in his seat smiling lovingly as he burst into a fit of giggles and walks to the back of her car dropping the groceries in the trunk.
She slides back into the drivers seat smiling lovingly as she sees Diego immediately cuddling with his teddy knowing school always powers him out and pulls out of the parking lot after reaching into the back to squeeze his knee, she drives the short way to the apartment parking her car in her designated parking lot and jumps back out grabbing the groceries.
She opens Diego's door helping him climb out and takes a hold of his hand after locking her car, she leads him into the building stopping at their mailbox and hands Diego the key smiling lovingly as he leans up on his tiptoes to open it and nods her head as he grabs everything out of it. She takes her keys back leaning down to kiss the top of his head as he holds onto their mail and steps into the elevator leaning against the back wall, she smiles lovingly as Diego leans against her legs tilting his head back against her thigh and gently runs her fingers through his hair shooting him a wink as he looks up at her with a big grin.
She follows him out of the elevator as it stops at their floor and unlocks the door pushing the button beside it to alert Santana of their presence, she walks into the kitchen as Diego runs off to greet his mami after they both kicked off their shoes and quickly stores them away making sure to clean everything up.
She grabs the ingredients of the mac and cheese she will make and places them on the counter grabbing a pot to boil the macaroni, she walks out of the kitchen after filling it with water and putting it on the stove and walks into the living room following Diego's soft happy giggles.
And pouts as she sees her girlfriend laying on the couch wearing a grimace while still joking around with the little boy cuddled into her side, she leans over the couch to kiss her head and smiles sadly as she looks up at her pain clear in her eyes. Hey baby.
Hey. Santana signs with a small smile. You got everything?
Brittany nods her head planting her hand on her shoulder as she tries to sit up and shakes her head. Nope you stay here and cuddle with D, I will make you a small bowl of fruit and make us dinner.
Britt-Britt. Santana tries trying to tell her that she can handle dinner knowing her girlfriend hurried home after leaving the house right after they brought Diego to school for work and had a stressful day writing the next review while also taking over the radio sport section because her colleague is sick.
Brittany just shakes her head and leans down to kiss her softly, she kisses Diego's head and smiles lovingly. I can handle dinner babe, D doesn't have any homework so just relax and let me spoil the both of you a bit alright? She pushes herself back up shooting Santana a wink as she tries to object again and walks into the kitchen, she grabs the fruit quickly cutting them up in slices making sure it's enough for Santana and D to snack on while still keeping a bit of appetite for dinner and throws the macaroni into the boiling water before bringing the bowl over to the duo on the couch.
She walks back into the kitchen after they both thanked her with a big grin and leans against the kitchen counter watching the macaroni boil for a bit, she takes out her phone as it buzzes and opens her aunt Holly's text message.
From Aunt H: Hey sweetheart, you, San and D want to come over for dinner this Saturday? Q and Puck will come over too, I have something to tell you all.
She raises an eyebrow forwarding the text to Santana as she sees her glancing at her phone and smiles slightly as she sees her looking up after reading it, she looks down at her phone as she nods her head and types out her reply.
To Aunt H: Do I need to be worried? We will be there.
She laughs at her immediate reply and shakes her head.
From Aunt H: No you don't need to kill anyone, had to tell Puck the same. Chill would ya? I'm a grown ass women, I can take care of myself.
To Aunt H: I know you can just like Puck, Q and I can take care of ourselves but you still worry too, we are a family Aunt H which means that we will always worry. See you Saturday, love ya.
Santana hums softly as the delicious smell of cheese fills her nostrils and nudges her son smirking. I think food is almost done mijo, shall we go set the table?
She chuckles standing up as he immediately nods his head and follows him into the kitchen, she slaps Brittany's ass softly as she sees her stirring the macaroni laughing softly as she just shoots her a grin while looking over her shoulder with an eyebrow raised and reaches above her into the pantry to grab three bowls knowing her son will grab the spoons.
''Smells delicious Britt-Britt.'' She murmurs wrapping her arms around her girlfriends waist from behind after placing the bowls on the table and handing her son glasses to put beside them, she nuzzles her face in Brittany's shoulder smiling lovingly as she feels her relax in her hold and kisses the back of her neck softly. ''Thank you for making dinner.''
Brittany turns around in her hold after turning the stove off and wraps her arms around Santana's shoulders effectively pulling her closer, she kisses the top of her head and smiles as she looks up at her with a loving grin. ''Anytime San.'' She tells her winking. ''How are you feeling?''
''Like shit.'' Santana mutters with an eye roll. ''I hate sudden period cramps.''
''I know you do.'' Brittany replies with a sad smile, she kisses the top of her head once again and sighs. Let's eat dinner before it gets cold and D declares he died from starving while waiting for us. She smiles slightly as she hears Diego giggle knowing she was right and slowly pulls out of Santana's embrace carrying the pot over to the table, she leans down kissing Diego's head and grabs his bowl filling it with mac and cheese while Santana fills their glasses with water.
Two hours later
After they ate dinner and spend the night cuddling with Diego on the couch while painting random things on the small canvasses Santana ordered for them, Brittany walks out of the room after tucking Diego in while telling Santana to lay down after she almost collapsed due to the pain the cramps caused and walks into the bedroom carrying a package of painkillers, a hot water bottle and a bottle of water.
She smiles sadly as she sees her girlfriend curled up beneath the blankets and walks over to her, she sits down beside her and slides the hot water bottle underneath the blanket right against her lower abdomen hearing her soft shaky sigh as soon as she feels the warmth.
She shakes her head as Santana silently mentions her hand to the ointment permanently placed on her nightstand and leans over to kiss her head. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, I don't need to rub my back in before so he can clearly look at the progress the wounds make. She explains as Santana frowns.
Santana nods her head scooting closer to Brittany as she slides into bed after taking off her clothes and slipping into the long shirt she placed at the end of the bed for her to change into and cuddles into her side. ''What will they do?'' She asks softly nuzzling her face against her shoulder while focusing on her hands so she can see her sign, Brittany slightly shrugs her shoulders and forces a smile.
Maybe scrape out the rest of the shrapnel still underneath my skin, they will probably numb my whole back once again but I hope I will be fit in two days to join you going to D's school for career day.
Santana leans up wrapping her arm around her waist and smiles sadly as she sees the angst in Brittany's eyes. ''You know that he won't be mad when you can't make it right?''
''I know.'' Brittany tells her with a soft sigh. ''But I want to join and maybe Trey will lay off the second she sees us together.''
''Bitch still flirting?'' Santana asks groaning, Brittany nods her head and rolls her eyes.
''Yeah but now D catches on and wonders why I tense up around her, she tried touching me while I had him on my hip so I took a step back and managed to settle him down before he could question my behavior.''
Santana sighs and drops her head back down on Brittany's shoulder. ''Well I can't say that I don't understand her because damn my girlfriend is hot.'' She smiles slightly as she feels Brittany's shoulders shake a sign that she is laughing and leans back up slowly shaking her head. ''But I prefer her not flirting with my girlfriend.''
Careful baby, green doesn't fit you. Brittany signs with a teasing smirk, she laughs as she slaps her abs and shakes her head pulling her closer as she tries to pull away. I'm just teasing San, I prefer her staying away from me too.
''Let's hope she backs off after Friday.'' Santana mutters while dropping her head to kiss Brittany softly. ''I have a question and you can say no.'' She smiles nervously as Brittany just raises an eyebrow and slowly draws random patterns on her clothed abs. ''Could I maybe join you to the appointment tomorrow?''
You want to join me? Brittany asks shocked, Santana slowly nods her head and sighs.
''Yeah I want to know what the doctor says and maybe he has some more tips on how to ease your discomfort some days, I know you try to stay strong around the both of us but I can see the pain in your eyes sometimes.''
Brittany smiles sadly realizing her girlfriend notices more than she thought and slowly nods her head. Of course you can join babe. She signs with a small smile, she watches Santana immediately roll over and chuckles softly as she watches her set her alarm to make sure she will wake up early enough to go through her routine before they need to get Diego ready for school.
She reclines back in the bed and smiles as Santana immediately rolls back over after taking a painkiller, she wraps her arm around her waist placing her hand on the hot water bottle to keep it against Santana's lower abdomen and drops her head to kiss her softly. ''Good night baby.''
''Good night Britt-Britt, te amo.''
I love you too. Brittany signs before turning the lights off and pulling the comforter up to their shoulders, she nuzzles her face in Santana's dark locks and closes her eyes smiling lovingly as she feels Santana relax against her with her arm wrapped tightly around her waist.
