New chapter yay! Hopefully it isn't too bad. Like i said before i'm trading between this story and my Demon Slayer story so I don't know when i'll have the next chapter up but I already have an idea on what i'm going to do with it! By the way a hint into what's going on into the story remember what the stories description is...let's just say that the feel good will be turning into a lot of torment in awhile :P
Since I can't PM you a response to a comment from allaboutrichard: Thanks for reviewing my story! Those two are brothers even if they stubbornly don't admit it. By the way I have a quiz at the end of the chapter first person to get it right will get a virtual cookie and spoilers on what happens next in the story.
Lyon woke up with a gasp, sitting up his heart pounding, another nightmare this time about his friends being massacred with his own hands a blood red. He wondered if the dreams were a side effect of the poison, probably a good chance of that since he started having them a few days before the headaches started.
He saw the cloth that had fallen from his forehead and remembered last night groaning, not exactly a state he wanted the younger pupil to see him . He sighed and got up stretching his one good arm, the other one still not moving. He wasn't feeling well but definitely a lot better than he did when he was throwing up in the toilet last night.
He walked out to the front room, no signs of Gray, guessing he was still asleep, he wasn't in the mood to eat or to wake Gray so he walked over to the bookshelf Gray had out here gazing at the different books. He picked one titled The Snow Mages Chronicles and sat on the couch to read it. It wasn't bad; it was a story about a Snow Mage traveling to find a lost jewel of some sort.
He got to the part where he was fighting a lightning mage when he heard the door open. He glanced over seeing Gray opening the door yawning and glanced at Lyon. "Still an early riser I see." Gray noted.
"Yup." Lyon said not really in the mood for a sarcastic remark.
"Let me make something quick and we can head to the guild." Gray noted heading to the kitchen.
"I'll just have toast." Lyon commented and Gray nodded before disappearing inside.
Lyon considered asking for coffee but Gray rarely ever made coffee, the younger mage was only a fan of iced coffee in the summer and rarely drank it any other time. So Lyon decided to wait til they got to the guild. Plus his appetite still wasn' t there.
Gray came back out with two plates of toast with butter on it and a spoonful of medicine.
Lyon set aside the book and reached for the toast, beginning to eat. Gray looked at him and said "You up to going to the guild today? I can see if Porlyusica can come here." He offered.
"Nah, my team would worry too much. Plus being stuck here with you sounds torturous." Lyon said with a small smirk and Gray gave an annoyed look.
"You have that reversed." Gray muttered under his breath and Lyon held back a snicker as he finished his toast before taking the medicine.
"Mind if i borrow some of your clothes again i'll ask Yuka at the guild today if he'd head to my place and get some of my stuff." Lyon said.
Gray shrugged. "No problem." He said and got up to the room to presumably get some.
Lyon got dressed unfortunately having Gray help him with the shirt again, that was going to get old real quick. They headed out of the house Lyon trying to ignore the pain and tiredness he was going through.
…
Gray knew Lyon was not feeling well, he could easily tell that from how his color was still paler than usual and how though he tried to hide it his gait was slower and there was a slight tension in him signifying he was in pain. He made sure to take the shortest way to the guild so Lyon wouldn't have to walk as much but even this amount seemed like it made Lyon tired. What a moron.
Gray ignored the little voice in the back of his head saying that he would be doing the same exact thing in Lyon's shoes.
They arrived at the guild and Gray saw Porlyuisca the moment they entered. "You two come with me." Porlyusica commanded and led them to a back room, she pointed Lyon to a chair she had set up and he complied.
"How come I have to be here?" Gray wondered.
"So you can let me know if he left anything out." Porlyusica stated.
She pulled up the sleeve of Lyon's borrowed shirt to check the poison no doubt, and instructed him to do certain motions and movements asking him to take deep breaths or feel his forehead and neck. "Have you had any of the symptoms I mentioned? I can already notice the fever." She said,
"Been feeling tired and sore." Lyon said.
"And he threw up last night and looked like he was in total pain, plus even a walk from my house to the guild seemed to tire him out." Gray added.
Lyon gave Gray a dirty look who just smirked in response. "Did he feel any hotter than he does now?" Porlyusica asked.
Gray reached forward and touched Lyon's forehead who batted his hand away annoyed. "Yeah he did." Gray noted.
"The rising fever probably affected his stomach." Porlyusica muttered. "Fevers tend to affect Ice Mages a lot worse than normal people since you originally have incredibly low body temperatures to start with." She explained. "Did you take the medicine last night and this morning?" She asked.
"Yes." Lyon said.
"Don't tell me he's like you and fought over it." Porlyusica said.
"I resent that." Gray said as Lyon chuckled.
"You and that brat Natsu were the worst patients with medicine. Used to have Makarov pin you down to get you to take it"
"I was a kid!" Gray spluttered.
"Last time it happened you were 16."
Gray muttered under his breath.
"Thankfully I'm not a child like Gray and Salamander and know to take my medicine on time." Lyon noted.
"Though he threw it up a few hours later." Gray added as revenge.
"If that happens again then give him half a dose when his stomach settles." Porlyusica said, straightening up. "I'll be back tomorrow unfortunately." She explained heading to the door.
"Hey wait, I want to ask." Lyon said, walking over to her whispering into her ear.
"Yes that can be a side effect, I can make a potion if you want for…"
"No it's fine." Lyon said. "Just curious."
Porlyusica looked at him suspiciously but nodded and walked away. "What did you ask her?" Gray wondered.
"None of your business." Lyon replied walking out. Asshole.
Gray followed him and saw Lyon heading towards a table that had both Lyon's and Gray's sitting there chatting. "Hey guys." Lyon said, taking a seat next to Yuka.
"Lyon-Sama! Are you ok?" Chelia asked.
"Yeah, just a bit tired, Porlyusica just checked me out." Lyon explained as Gray walked over, sitting between Lucy and Erza.
"That woman's scary." Toby whined.
"Scarier than Obaabaa-Sama?" Lyon asked.
"Please don't make me compare them, I'll have nightmares." Chelia said.
"Obaabaa-sama's not bad…." Wendy said.
"You've never been in trouble with her before Wendy." Yuka commented.
"Only ones that have not gotten in trouble with her are Wendy, Jura and Lyon." Chelia muttered.
"...wait what?" Gray asked. "Lyon's never gotten in trouble with your guild's master before? Really?"
"Yup." Yuka said.
"I refuse to believe this asshole hasn't caused trouble." Gray said, pointing at Lyon who smirked.
"Just because you can't leave the guild without destroying something Gray doesn't mean that the rest of us can't." Lyon said, sounding proud of himself.
"You've destroyed things too, Lyon, you just never get in trouble." Chelia said with a pout.
"Like the Wellington Farm case." Yuka noted.
"...wait, that was you?! I heard about 20 acres were damaged!" Lucy exclaimed.
"First of all that was a necessary evil, second of all those crops were already all ruined so I didn't cause anything worse, at least I didn't scare all the cattle away." Lyon said with a glance at Toby who bowed his head down.
"Don't remind me, that took us hours to get them all, Sherry was sooo mad." Chelia said.
"What the hell kind of job's on a farm?" Natsu asked.
"Pest extermination….apparently some moron mutated a bunch of grasshoppers into 3 foot big grasshoppers that breathed fire." Lyon noted.
"...that sounds so cool!" Natsu exclaimed "Where can I find one?!"
"Natsu, we are not hunting down fire breathing grasshoppers!" Lucy protested.
"They're all dead now anyways." Yuka added.
"Damn it," Natsu said with a pout.
"The guys that created the things had to pay both the owner for damages and us since we cleaned up their mess." Lyon said. "So we got paid double for that."
"Still say we should have lessened Toby's share." Yuka commented.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" Toby demanded.
"Enough you two." Lyon sighed, Gray had seen that look on Erza's face many times when dealing with him and Natsu.
"The animals were all so cute though, they even let me ride a horse!" Chelia said excitedly
"Mmm, that reminds me of that horse meat steak that I had before." Natsu said, drooling at the memory.
Of course that made Chelia give a look like you just kicked a puppy in front of her. "How could you eat something so cute?!" She demanded glaring at Natsu with tears in her eyes.
Natsu spluttered trying to find his way out of this and Happy the unhelpful cat added. "Natsu will eat anything whether it's cute or not."
"That's horrible!" Chelia said tears were now running down her cheeks.
Erza punches Natsu, sending him crashing across the hall. "How dare you make a young girl cry like that!?" Erza demanded.
Natsu landed and passed out with a big bruise on his cheek. "That was overkill." Lucy said a sweatdrop on her face and Gray was snickering under his breath.
"Hey Chelia , you want some pancakes?" Wendy asked to cheer her friend up.
Chelia sniffled "Blueberry ones?" She asked.
"Yup." Wendy said and called over to Mira to order some food.
Everyone ordered, Lyon ordering some hot coffee and Gray some ice water since they both already ate. Mira left with a nod and Yuka looked over at the passed out salamander. "Are we going to leave him like that?" He wondered.
"He'll be fine." Gray said.
"I'm surprised you drink hot coffee" Erza commented. "Gray doesn't usually order anything hot but hot chocolate and even that's only around the holidays."
"Oh it's an old habit from Galuna, Sherry brought a magic coffee maker for everyone to share and I wasn't in the mood to make it frozen everytime so eventually I just got used to drinking it hot." Lyon explained.
Gray usually didn't hear about what happened during Galuna so hearing small facts like that was kind of interesting. At least the parts not involving the ceremony and such. He glanced at Lyon who chatted calmly, he didn't seem any worse. He'd have to keep an eye on him though his friends probably would notice if anything was wrong as well.
"By the way you guys don't have to stick around here you know." Lyon said to his teammates.
"Then who's going to keep you in check?" Yuka retorted
"I resent that. Plus I doubt you two are going to be able to afford staying in a hotel room for several weeks." Lyon challenged.
"We can trade off going back to the guild for jobs. Plus you might go insane from hanging around Fairy Tail mages too long." Yuka noted.
"Fair point, but any chance I can convince you to go to my place and get me some clothes and stuff so I don't have to keep borrowing Gray's?" Lyon asked.
"Yeah sure I can do that later,is the key still in the same spot?" Yuka asked and Lyon nodded in response.
They chatted until their food arrived, Lyon taking a sip of coffee and Chelia digging into the blue berry pancakes that had extra whipped cream like she ordered looking like she was in heaven. "These are so good! The chef at our guild doesn't make pancakes nearly as good." Chelia said.
"They make pretty good pasta though." Wendy said obviously wanting to point out the good things about the chef.
"Better than mine?" Mira asked, feigning hurt.
"No, that's not what I meant! I just meant it's different then here! Not in a bad way I mean but….." Wendy said spluttering and Mira giggled at this.
"It's alright Wendy just teasing you." Mira said, rubbing her head.
Wendy ducked her head down flushing, Gray noticed Lyon's team looking amused, they had been Wendy's guild for a year they would have known how Wendy's like when she's flustered and how amusing it could be when she acted up over teasing or compliments.
Natsu chose then to wake up and realized everyone was eating. "YOU ORDERED FOOD WITHOUT ME?!" Natsu demanded.
Lucy tried to calm Natsu down by saying they'd order his food now but Natsu still pouted. Gray started to tell Natsu how pathetic he was for getting KO'd by erza with only one hit which Natsu of course didn't take too kindly which caused the two to get into their usual banter. Gray slowly starts to forget checking on Lyon every few minutes.
…
Lyon felt his head pounding, his stomach churning, he was listening to Toby's laments about how he couldn't figure out how the light in the refrigerator turned on, neither he or Yuka had it in them to explain how a fridge worked to Toby and Chelia was talking to Wendy. "You should totally join us for this year's Thanksgiving Festival Wendy!" Chelia said, taking the girl's hands.
"But I'm not part of your guild anymore…." Wendy protested weakly.
"So?! The Sky Sisters were so popular last year a lot of people were asking for an encore." Chelia said.
"Sky sisters?" Gray asked.
Lyon smirked "Wendy and Chelia did an onstage song and dance performance, it was a pretty big hit, they're nicknamed the sky sisters in the guild since they both have sky based magic." He explained.
"Forever Forever!" Toby sang badly and Wendy put her head in her hands flushing.
"Wendy singing and dancing, I'd love to see that." Erza said.
"We have recording Lacrima from the event if you guys want to see it." Lyon added smirking at seeing Wendy flush a brighter shade of red.
"Ooh I want to see that!" Mira called from across the room.
"Me too Wendy-Chan singing and dancing!" An old blue haired man from the guild said…Lyon thought his name was Macao but he could be wrong.
"Hey if you want singing you've got me." Gajeel said, suddenly pulling a guitar out of nowhere.
A chorus of boo's suddenly came from around the guild and Lyon wondered when this became a guild wide conversation. Before he could comment though a sudden lurch went through his stomach. Oh shit. Getting up he immediately darted to the bathroom hearing worried cries from his guildmates.
He arrived opening the nearest stall on the thankfully empty and knelt hurling up the contents of his stomach. Thankfully he only had toast for breakfast so it didn't leave him much to throw up but it caused him to dry heave painfully. His head swirled and he had to put his arm on the floor to keep himself steady. When he stopped gagging he felt a hand brushing his forehead before landing on his shoulder and he glanced, seeing Gray.
Well at least it wasn't one of his team, he rather they didn't see him like this. He accepted the glass of water Gray gave him, but almost dropped it from how shaky his hand was, Gray managing to catch it and put the cup to his lips which Lyon sipped before swishing his mouth out and spitting it into the toilet. He tried to push himself up to his feet but with only one working hand and how shaky it was Gray had to wrap an arm around him to keep his balance.
Lyon wanted to push him away but he was shaky and the floor was moving. He was not in any shape to support himself. After flushing the toilet Gray said "Let's get back to my place, can you walk?" He asked.
Like hell Lyon was being carried so he just nodded and Gray supported him as they walked out of the bathroom. Immediately his team surrounded him asking if he was ok and Lyon gave a weak smile to try to reassure them, but it didn't work. Toby put an arm around him to help support him with Gray and Lyon thought he heard Gray say something to the rest of his team but his head was swirling too much to really pay attention.
They led him out of the guild hall and about 1/4th of the way to Gray's apartment Lyon's feet gave out from underneath him forcing Gray and Toby to lower him to the ground. Lyon didn't hear them talking, too focused on staring at the ground trying to not collapse his eyes barely staying open.
Suddenly he felt himself being lifted and put onto Toby's back he used his one working arm to wrap around Toby's neck, the other hanging uselessly. "I don't need to be carried." Lyon tried to say but it came out as a mumbled mess that no one could understand so the garbled comment was ignored.
Groaning, he put his head on Toby's shoulder trying to hide his face from any passerby that saw him wishing someone would put him out of his misery. Soon he closed his eyes, tuning out the world. He didn't even notice when they arrived at Gray's place just that he was being lowered onto the bed. Gray slipping off his shoes and put a cold rag on his head which made Lyon sigh gratefully closing his eyes again drifting off into an uneasy sleep.
…
Gray was an idiot, he hadn't been keeping a good enough eye on Lyon. He hadn't noticed that Lyon had gotten pale again or that his fever had risen until after Lyon had run to the bathroom. He had managed to convince Lyon's team not to run into the bathroom after him and headed inside himself. He didn't know if Lyon noticed that there was blood mixed in with his vomit or not, but he didn't take that as a good sign.
When they left he had managed only to have Toby come with him to help him support Lyon, not exactly the best choice to choose the overly emotional dog man but he was the strongest out of the three.
Which was good since Lyon collapsed on the way to the apartment, his eyes weren't even focused and his breath was ragged, coming in gasps. After getting Lyon onto Toby's back they made it back to Gray's apartment and they managed to get Lyon to lay down Gray getting a wet rag and lowering the temperature with his magic, putting it on Lyon's forehead. Lyon made a small noise of contempt before falling silent and Gray looked at Toby who was in tears. "He'll be alright, he's tough." Gray said to the Lamia Scale Mage.
"OF COURSE HE IS!" Toby snapped.
Gray knew by now that this was a normal thing from Toby and said "You better go back to the others and let them know he got back here ok. I'll keep an eye on him." Gray said.
Toby made a grunt in understanding heading out the door before stopping for a moment. "He won't let the rest of us ever see him when he's weak even though we're a team…Me Yuka and Sherry always found that frustrating…maybe he'll show his weaker side to you, so keep an eye on him." Toby said surprisingly wisely before heading out the door.
Gray stared after him in shock at the statement before blinking himself out of the stupor and closed the door. Let's see Porlyuisca said to have him take half a portion of medicine after he threw up so…. Gray went to the kitchen to get that heading back to Lyon and gently shook the man who barely squinted his eyes open. "Take this." He said, holding the spoon to his lips.
Lyon allowed Gray to spoon feed him the medicine, probably too out of it to realize what was going on, making a face at the bitter taste before closing his eyes again. Gray sighed and sat on the bed putting a hand on Lyon's neck. His pulse was racing and he felt incredibly hot, a really bad thing for an ice mage.
Leaving the room he came back with a bowl of ice water and took the rag from Lyon's forehead putting it in the water and squeezing it out before wiping the water over his face and neck hoping to lower his temperature at least a bit. He did this process several times over the next few hours biting his lip in worry, maybe he should get Porlyusica? But then he'd have to leave Lyon alone.
He had that question answered when his phone Lacrima rang. He answered it seeing Erza and Porlyusica "Oh good timing, I think Lyon's fever's getting worse." Gray said immediately, skipping any pleasantries. "He collapsed on the way back to my place and their was blood in his bile." He added.
"Hmm….it looks like to me that his body temperatures are rising due to the body fighting the poison, but the rising temperatures are making his body weaker which causes it to fight harder causing his fever to rise more, it's a vicious cycle." Porlyusica said.
"What should I do?" Gray asked.
"Give him an ice bath. I'll be back there in an hour." Porlyusica explained.
"Got it." Gray said as Porlyusica hung up, Gray looked at Lyon one last time before heading to the bathroom to get an ice bath set up.
