The silence was finally broken by a knock that sent Hank barking and growling at the door.
"That'll be Ecklie." Brass mumbled. "I'll let him in."
"What did you find, Conrad?" Grissom asked as soon as the other man entered the room.
"Honestly, not much Gil." Ecklie sighed. "Of course you already know we found her wedding band. We collected blood samples and the white cloth. It's all on the way to the lab now."
"What about in her car?" Grissom blinked at him.
"No hair or fibers." Ecklie replied. "We collected a few prints but I'm pretty sure they'll come back to Sara and Nick."
"He's careful." Grissom mumbled. "He won't screw up."
"Who?" Ecklie squinted his eyes in confusion.
"Vincent Lurie." Grissom stared blankly, not really seeing anything around him. "He has Sara."
"How do you know?" Ecklie questioned.
"He called me from Sara's phone." Grissom replied.
"Are you sure?" Ecklie glanced at Brass, who nodded.
"I heard her." Grissom choked out.
"Are you sure it was Sara?" Ecklie prodded.
"I know my own wife's voice!" Grissom all but yelled.
"I'll call Archie and get him to trace Sara's phone." Ecklie pulled his own phone from his belt with a shake of his head. "You should have mentioned this before, Gil."
"Forgive me Conrad for being distracted by the fact that my pregnant wife is missing and the man that has her has already gotten away with two murders!" Grissom's voice was getting louder with each word he spoke.
"Conrad, don't." Catherine held up her hand when Ecklie opened his mouth. "Brass and I were both there during the call. We're all a little distracted right now."
"I'll get Archie to start a trace." Ecklie mumbled as he walked out of the room.
"He's right." Grissom muttered. "I should have immediately called Archie. I wasn't thinking straight. I'm not thinking straight."
"Gil, you're a grieving husband." Catherine joined him on the couch. "You're not supposed to look at this like a CSI right now."
"What if I've cost her time, Cath?" Grissom's eyes pooled with more tears. "What if-"
"No what ifs." Catherine took his hand. "We're going to find Sara."
"Archie traced Sara's phone." Ecklie came rushing back into the room.
"Where?" Grissom was off the couch in an instant.
"Last signal came from a house off Blue Diamond Road." Ecklie said as he headed toward the door with everyone else following behind.
"Grissom, you're with me." Brass said as they all ran outside to their vehicles.
Grissom climbed into Brass's car while Catherine, Nick and Warrick got in the Denali. They took off with Ecklie in the lead, all three vehicles flashing lights and sirens.
Sara was trying to get the ties around her hands undone which had resulted in her wrists being rubbed raw and bleeding. She still felt lightheaded and she surmised that she must have hit her head at some point when she was taken. The pain in her head and wrists had managed to distract her from her nausea, which she was thankful for. She didn't want Lurie to realize she was pregnant, fearful of what he might do if he knew. She was concentrating on her bindings when the door to the room she was in opened again.
"Stay the hell away from me." Sara hissed as she watched Lurie approach her.
"Now now, dear Sara." Lurie smiled at her. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"What do you want with me?" Sara yelled.
"You're so beautiful." Lurie said as he knelt in front of her and touched her cheek. "So much like my Debbie but yet so different."
"Don't fucking touch me!" Sara spat at him.
Lurie stared at her for a moment before he struck her across the cheek with the back of his hand. Sara groaned in pain, immediately tasting blood in her mouth.
"I want to do better by you than I did Debbie." Lurie whispered. "Don't test me."
Sara buried her face into the carpet she was lying on, fighting back tears from the pain now radiating across the left side of her face. Thoughts of Grissom and protecting their baby were the only thing keeping her strong.
"It's time to go now." Lurie pulled a syringe out of his pocket. "I'm sure your husband and his friends have traced your phone by now. This might sting."
Sara fought him before she felt a sharp jab in the side of her neck and then the world went black again.
It took almost an hour for them to reach the house on Blue Diamond Road. They were met by several police cruisers and swing shift but Grissom knew it was futile before Brass even put the car in park. The house was dark, not a single light on inside.
"She's not here." Grissom said as he climbed out of the car.
"Clear the house, now!" Brass barked as he approached the officers.
Grissom stood back with Catherine, Nick and Warrick while the officers and Brass entered the house. It felt like an eternity before Brass walked back out and motioned for them to enter the house. Ecklie and swing shift followed behind them.
"Looks like he was keeping her in a bedroom down the hall." Brass tried to maintain a calm facade.
Grissom's feet were moving down the hallway. He stood at the threshold of the room, not yet entering. He knew he had to treat it like a crime scene and allow Ecklie to do his job in order to preserve any evidence that could lead them to Sara. Ecklie pulled his camera from his kit and set about snapping pictures of the room. After he was done, he motioned for Grissom to enter.
The room was plain, with a twin bed in one corner and not much else. Grissom's eyes were immediately drawn to the wall and the cream colored carpet. There were small streaks of blood on the bottom of the wall and spots of blood on the carpet. Before he had a chance to react to the blood, Catherine was yelling his name.
"Gil, kitchen! You need to see this."
Grissom turned and left the bedroom, making his way to the kitchen. When he entered Catherine, Brass, Warrick and Nick were standing around the kitchen table. His blood ran cold at the sight. In the middle of the table was a phone. Grissom immediately knew it was Sara's. He also knew it had been left there for him to find.
"Has anyone touched it?" Grissom asked, already knowing the answer.
"No, we just found it." Warrick answered. "I'll get Ecklie to snap some pictures before we touch it."
Warrick took off down the hall and returned a few moments later with Ecklie. After taking a few photos of the phone, Ecklie took it from the table and flipped it open.
"He wanted me to find it." Grissom stared at the phone. "There's something there he wants me to see."
Ecklie checked the recent calls and text messages, not finding anything out of the ordinary. He pulled up the photo album and the look on his face told Grissom that he found whatever Lurie had left for him.
"What is it, Conrad?" Grissom's voice was tight.
"There's a video, Gil." Ecklie replied. "You need to see it."
Grissom took a pair of gloves from Ecklie and put them on before taking the phone and hitting play on the video, turning the volume all the way up. The video showed Sara, alive but incapacitated somehow by the groggy look on her face, in the trunk of a car. She had a bloody gash on her forehead and one side of her face was bruised. He could also see that her wrists were raw and bloody. Grissom felt the rage rising inside of him as he saw what Lurie had done to his precious Sara.
"Gil…" Sara moaned before the trunk slammed shut and the video ended.
