Author's Note: So, I've had Covid, and I've struggled to write this last week. This is totally just a filler chapter. I know it sucks so I apologize in advance. I'm saddened that we won't see GSR on our screens again, but I am glad that Jorja made the decision to not come back without Billy. GSR belongs together and I really didn't want them split up again. Anyway, enough of my ramblings.
Disclaimer: They're still not mine, unfortunately.
"You're on speaker, Greg." Catherine said quickly. "What have you got?"
"Black 2004 BMW 330Ci." Greg rushed out. "Registered to one Vincent Lurie. Equipped with lojack. Pinging location now."
"You got an address?" Warrick spoke up anxiously, his eyes on the unmoving figure of Grissom at the table.
"Sending it to you now." Greg replied, the sounds of typing coming over the phone.
"Got it." Nick nodded at the group.
"Thanks Greg. We'll keep you posted." Catherine said before disconnecting the call.
The group piled into their vehicles; Grissom with Brass in his cruiser, while Catherine and the boys took the Denali. They turned their lights on and sped off toward the location Greg gave them.
They were barreling down a dirt road off the highway. It had taken over an hour before they finally reached the location of Lurie's car. Grissom threw open the car door as soon as Brass stopped, climbing out to look at the BMW parked in front of them. The car sat deserted in the dark on the side of the road.
"I don't have a good feeling about this." Catherine mumbled as Warrick pulled to a stop behind Brass's car.
Grissom just stared at the car while the others made their way to his side.
"I've got it, Griss." Warrick nodded to his boss as he pulled on gloves before approaching the vehicle.
Warrick turned on his flashlight, passing it over the car. He shone the light through the windows, noticing the front and back seats were empty. He tried the driver's side handle, finding the car unlocked. He opened the door, looking around further.
"Open the trunk." Grissom's voice finally spoke.
"Gil, I don't thinkā¦" Catherine started to speak.
"Open it Warrick." Grissom spoke again, more force behind his words.
Warrick looked at his boss and friend before turning back to the car. He blew out a deep breath, finding the trunk latch and pulling it with a gloved hand. The pop of the trunk sounded eerily in the darkness.
Grissom walked slowly to the back of the car. He stood staring at the trunk, silently praying that they wouldn't find Sara when they opened it. Warrick walked up beside of him, and Grissom nodded, closing his eyes.
"Griss." He heard Warrick's voice. Opening his eyes, Grissom looked into the trunk to find it empty, except for what looked like a video camera. Warrick took the video camera out of the trunk, closing the lid and setting the camera down.
"It's your call, Gil." Brass looked at his friend.
"Play it." Grissom nodded.
Warrick turned the camera on, finding only one recording and hitting play. The group watched as the camera showed Sara, chained to a bed. Her face was bruised, and they could see the angry marks around her wrists from being bound.
"Say hello, Sara." Lurie's voice spoke as he got closer to Sara.
"Go to hell!" Sara screamed.
"Thata girl." Nick mumbled.
The camera lowered slightly, catching Lurie's hand connecting with Sara's face. The group didn't miss the guttural sound that came from Grissom.
"I told you not to push me!" Lurie roared.
The camera came back up fully, showing Sara gasping for breath as blood ran from her nose and lip. She looked up at Lurie and spit a mouthful of blood at him.
"So feisty." Lurie chuckled.
The camera recorded Sara for several more minutes before lowering and finally shutting off. The group stood in shock at what they had just witnessed. Grissom's breathing was becoming more and more ragged.
"I will fucking kill him." He choked out, his fists clenching at his sides.
"Gil, she's a fighter." Catherine wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
"Her beautiful face." Grissom gasped into her shoulder, his body shaking with the force of his sobs.
"Call Ecklie." Brass looked at Warrick. "Tell him about the car. I'll have it towed back to the lab."
"We need to get this camera back to the lab and let Archie have a look at it." Nick said.
"Come on, Griss. Let's go." Catherine ushered him to the Denali. "Arch will find something on the tape. Ecklie and his guys will take care of the car."
The drive back to the lab was made in near silence. As soon as they parked, Nick was out and running into the lab with the video camera in an evidence bag. Catherine and Warrick stayed behind with Grissom, who hadn't spoken a word since they left Lurie's car. The ringing of a phone finally broke the silence.
"Griss, I think it's you." Catherine spoke quietly.
The phone continued to ring before Grissom finally dug it out of his pocket. Looking at the caller ID that read UNKNOWN CALLER, he immediately jumped out of the SUV with Catherine and Warrick right behind him.
"Grissom." He finally answered, making his way toward the lab's entrance.
"Did you find the gift I left you?" Lurie's voice came over the line.
"I told you what would happen if you touched her." Grissom growled into the phone.
"She needs to learn some respect!" Lurie hissed.
"I will find you." Grissom was almost at the lab doors. "There is nowhere on this earth that you can hide from me."
"We'll see about that Dr. Grissom." Lurie replied smoothly, ending the call.
Grissom came to a dead stop when he heard the click of the line. He pulled his phone away and looked at it, gripping it so tight that he could feel it cracking under the strength of his hand.
"Damn it!" Grissom yelled into the night.
"Griss." Warrick came to a stop with Catherine beside him.
"He's taunting me." Grissom spoke slowly, his voice rising. "He's two steps ahead while I'm chasing my fucking tail!"
"We've got the video camera, Gil." Catherine touched his shoulder. "Archie will find something on it."
Grissom took a deep breath before being led into the lab by Catherine and Warrick. Passing the break room, Greg spotted them and jumped up from his seat.
"Grissom!" Greg called as he caught up with the trio. "Did you find the car?"
Warrick and Catherine relayed what they found to Greg as they continued walking toward the AV lab. When they reached AV, Archie already had the footage playing. He was typing furiously on his computer, Nick standing behind him.
"Anything yet?" Warrick asked Nick.
"He's trying to isolate any background noise on the video." Nick replied, watching the screen.
"This could take a while." Archie mumbled as he continued typing.
"Gil, why don't you go lay down in your office." Catherine said, looking at her weary friend. "You need to sleep. At least for a little while."
Grissom just continued to stare at the screen of Archie's computer. Seeing what Lurie had done to his beautiful Sara, he wanted to break something.
"Cath's right, Griss." Nick spoke up. "One of us will come get you the second we have something."
Grissom finally nodded and turned to make his way to his office. He knew he had to get it together. Sara was depending on him. He was not going to let Vincent Lurie outsmart him. He would find Sara. Archie would find something on the tape. Ecklie would be processing the car soon and Grissom planned to have Greg there as well. There was always something.
