"Dead?" Brass asked in shock. "She just left the station not even two hours ago."
"Apparently her roommate came home and found her." Grissom sighed. "Looks like she was strangled."
"It had to be Lurie." Brass said as he drove them back toward the lab. "How in the hell did he even know she talked to us though?"
"He's been keeping tabs on her evidently." Grissom said before it hit him. "Which means he can't be keeping Sara too far away if he's showing up in the city."
"He had to be following Sasha. That's the only way he could have known she'd talked to us." Brass maneuvered his Charger through traffic.
"He's fucking with me." Grissom's fists clenched in his lap.
"He's a cocky son of a bitch." Brass said as he pulled into the lab parking lot. "It's gonna be his downfall."
"He was here." Grissom climbed out of the car and slammed the door shut. "While I was dicking around, eating breakfast, he was here killing another woman."
"Gil, none of us could have known that this was going to happen." Brass admonished. "For all we knew, he wasn't even in the state anymore."
The two men made their way into the lab, heading straight for the break room where Catherine, Warrick, Nick and Greg were all waiting. As soon as Grissom cleared the door, they all jumped up.
"What do we know?" Grissom looked at his team.
"Sasha Quinton's roommate came home and found her dead in the living room. She was strangled with what appeared to be a silk scarf. No sign of forced entry, so she either let him in or he had a key." Catherine read off the notes she had gotten from Ecklie.
"She said they never met outside of the Luxor." Grissom mumbled. "He had to have followed her home."
"How the hell did he even know she was at the station?" Warrick asked the question they were all wondering.
"That's the million-dollar question." Brass looked around the room.
"Well, he can't be keeping Sara too far away." Greg said. "If he's able to show up and kill a call girl, he's got to be keeping Sara within a reasonable driving distance."
"I thought you put a BOLO out on his Land Rover?" Grissom turned to Brass.
"I did as soon as Catherine called me about it." Brass nodded. "So, he's got to be driving something else."
"How many cars does this bastard have?" Nick slammed his hands on the table.
"Does Sasha's building have any cameras?" Grissom looked at Catherine.
"Ecklie's having the footage sent back here as soon as he gets it." Catherine answered and continued on, anticipating his next question. "David's on his way back with the body."
"Let me know as soon as he gets here." Grissom headed toward the break room door.
"Where are you going?" Catherine called.
"To look at the evidence." Grissom said before leaving the room. "We're missing something."
"Damnit!" Nick hit the table again. "He's one fucking guy. He's not smarter than all of us."
"Griss is right." Warrick looked at them all. "There's something we're missing. Something we're not seeing."
"Go back over everything Ecklie has brought in so far." Catherine said to Greg before turning to Nick and Warrick. "You two go over the car again. I'm going to check in with Archie about the tape."
Sara sat straight up and immediately threw up in the floor. She wasn't sure how she had anything in her stomach to even throw up. She couldn't even remember the last time she had ate or drank anything. Another wave of nausea hit her, and she emptied her stomach once again.
"Come on, baby, not now." Sara whispered, looking down at her stomach.
Sitting back against the wall, trying to catch her breath, she heard the door open and watched Lurie walk into the room.
"That's the second time you've gotten sick." Lurie stared at the spot on the floor.
"Must be something I ate." Sara said weakly.
"Is there something you're not telling me, Sara?" Lurie eyed her with curiosity.
"Why the hell would I tell you anything?" Sara sneered at him.
"Because it may be important information that I need to know." Lurie sat down on the edge of the bed, facing her.
"You don't need to know anything about me." Sara spat.
"Oh, but I do." Lurie stroked her cheek. "I want to know everything about you."
Sara recoiled from his touch, backing against the wall as far as she could but he followed her. He placed his hands on either side of her head, pinning her against his body and the wall.
"Tell me Sara." Lurie whispered in her ear. "Are you pregnant?"
Sara immediately froze and she knew that Lurie knew the answer to his question. She tried to control her breathing, but it didn't work.
"You are." Lurie touched her hair. "How long?"
Sara refused to look at him, jerking her face away from him while fighting back tears. Her biggest fear during this whole ordeal had just become a reality. Lurie knew she was pregnant, and she was terrified of what he would do now. He grabbed her chin and forced her face back to his.
"I asked you a fucking question, Sara." He said angrily. "How long?"
"Almost 13 weeks." Sara choked out, finally losing the battle and feeling tears fall down her face.
"Does he know?" Lurie's breath was on her face.
"Yes." Sara whispered.
Lurie released her face, getting up off the bed and leaving the room. He came back a few minutes later, holding what Sara recognized as a burner phone.
"Dial." Lurie held the phone out to her, and she knew what he wanted.
Sara took the phone in her shaking hands, dialing the number she knew by heart and listened as it rang. He picked up after two rings.
"Grissom." He barked in greeting.
"Gil!" Sara cried into the phone. "I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry."
"Sara? Sara!" He yelled into the phone, but Lurie snatched it before she could say anything else.
"Hello, Dr. Grissom." Lurie spoke into the receiver.
"I'm going to fucking kill you." Grissom growled on the other end. "I told you not to touch her!"
"It appears I should thank you." Lurie ignored Grissom's threat.
"Thank me for what?" Grissom asked slowly.
"Not only do I have a second chance because of Sara…" Lurie smiled into the phone. "Now we'll also be able to raise a child together."
"What the hell did you just say?" Grissom's voice was like ice.
"Don't worry, Dr. Grissom. I'll take very good care of them both." Lurie said before the line went dead.
