Jacob and Pete went inside, they saw Sam and walked over to where she was. Sam spotted them and she smiled when she saw her father, and she got up as they reached the table.
"Hi Sam happy birthday, you look great tonight"
"Thanks Pete, are they for me?"
"Ah, yeah, they actually wow you look great, new dress?"
"Yes, you were saying"
He passes the roses to her and she smells them and notices the two arterial roses and smiles.
"So you the one"
"What?" Pete look confuse
"Secret admirer"
"Ah no, not me," Sam laughed.
"Happy birthday kiddo"
"Dad, this is a surprise, how did you get here?" Pete was shock when Sam said 'dad'
"Jack brought me here from work, he outside on the phone"
"Oh, ok, it's great to have you here dad"
They both hug, Jacob whispering in her ear. "The roses are actually from Jack, I'll explain later, he is your secret admirer, not Pete"
They pulled back; Sam was shocked to find out that Jack has been her secret admirer for over eight years.
"So dad, how long are you in town for?"
"Till tomorrow, then back to work"
"Ok, it's great to have you here," Sam said smiling.
"Sam you look fantastic tonight"
"Thanks dad" Then Jack walked in and over to the table.
"Sorry about that, you know work"
"Is everything ok Jack?" Cassie asked,
"Yeah, we are not talking about work tonight, ok. Sam you look, wow, beautiful, amazing tonight, happy birthday"
"Thank you sir"
"Ah, no sir, General, Colonel, it's plain Jack and Sam tonight and it is your birthday, I hope you like your surprise birthday presents?"
Jack gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, which made her smile.
"Thank Jack, I love them, they are beautiful. I love you surprises, you can be full of them" She said smiling as she looked from Jack to Jacob who was smiling also.
"Your welcome, so Shell we"
They all sat down around the round table, Jacob was on one side of Sam and Pete was on the other side. Jack was across from Sam. the waiter showed up to take their drink order. When the waiter was taking their order, Jacob and Sam were talking.
"Ah dad, what would you like to drink?" Jack asked,
"Ok sorry, ah orange juice for me thanks"
"I'll have the same," Sam said.
Once everyone did their order and the waiter left, Pete asked Jack.
"General, why did you call Sam father dad?"
"Well I get into these weird mood, sometimes I call him dad, other times, it's Jake or Jacob, it's the type a guy I am"
"You let him call you that?" Pete asked as he looked at Jacob.
"Yes, is that a problem"
"Hey guys, please not tonight, ok"
"Sorry Sam," Jacob said.
"Sorry" Jack said looking at Sam, she gave him a small smile and a nod, to let him know that it was ok.
They talk till their drinks arrive and then they order their dinner. They were all having a wonderful time talking and laughing. Jack watches Sam for most of the night, he sees her smile that he loves, he notices that every now and then she would look at him and then she gives him the smile he loved so much before turning back to talk to one of the others. After dinner people started getting up and started dancing.
"Sam, would you like to have a dance?" Jack asked
"Sure"
Jack got up and went around the table to where Sam was sitting and he put his hand out, she took his hand in hers and she stood up, they both walked to the dance floor hand in hand. Then they put their arms around each other as they dance to a slow love song.

Jack and Sam were looking into each other's eyes while dancing slowly and listening to the song. Everyone at the table was watching them.
"Don't they make a great couple?" Cassie said They all didn't say a thing, but watched them.
"Jack, thank you for the roses and for this dress, how did you know I like this dress?"
"I saw you in the mall last month trying it on, but didn't buy it, so when you were gone, I went and brought it for you with the shoes. When I saw you wearing it I knew you should have it and I also knew it were your birthday today, so I got it for you"
"Thank you, you shouldn't have spend so much on me, or through you have spent a lot on me over the past eight years being my secret admirer"
"Yeah well that's me and now you know. Sam I was thinking of retiring, after all you know how much I hate paperwork. It was amazing that I got this far up the ranks I most want to retire so I can spend time getting to know you better as Samantha Carter, not Colonel Carter and who knows what might happen later on. Sam I love you, I have been for years. Since I couldn't tell you or show you without getting into trouble, I only think of one way of showing it without you knowing it was me"
"Jack, I don't know what to say, you are willing to retire for me?"
"For us Sam, yes, now the goa'uld threat is gone, it's time for me to retire and hopefully settle down with the women who I have been in love with since we first met. You know, get married with half dozen kids, get a dog or two" Sam laughed, shaking her head.
"You really thought about this?"
"Eight years Sam I have thought about it, but now it is up to you, I know that you are seeing Shannan. I know all I can give you is my heart, I don't have much but I'm willing to share my life with you, although I have, but you know what I mean"
"Yes, I do know what you mean Jack, I know what you are like, and well can I think about it"
"Ok, I know that all of this is a bit of a shock to you but I have waited for so long to say these words, I love you Sam, I always have been and always will be"
They dance closer till the song ends, then Jack whispers in her ear.
"Sam you look hot and sexy tonight in the dress and you do look beautiful"
Then they looked into one another's eyes and smiled, and then they heard back to the table where the others were. They all talk for a bit before Daniel asks Sam to dance.
"Enjoying yourself tonight Sam?" Daniel asked
"Yes, thank Daniel, I sure got few birthday surprises tonight"
"What surprises?"
"Well there dad, did you know about that?"
"Yes, Teal'c called me just as I arrived to pick you up tonight, jack was going to bring him here with him"
"Oh, ok he sure was a surprise alright"
"Yeah, what other surprises did you get?"
"Well for one this dress, it was from Jack, he saw me try it on about a month ago, but I didn't buy it, I found the box that was in it on my front porch this afternoon. This morning he sent me two dozen yellow roses saying that he was going to reveal himself tonight. When Pete showed up with them, I thought it was from him, till dad told me who they were from"
"Sam I'm happy for you, we both know what Jack is like, he can be full of surprises"
"True, we just had a little talk before, he told me that he love me, he is willing to retire and quit the SGC for me, for us"
"What are we talking about here, marriage?"
"Well could be, who knows with him, but he knows that I'm seeing Pete"
"Well Sam the choice is yours, follow your heart and be happy"
"I will Daniel"
"Sam I notice when Jack arrived and he call Jacob, Dad, Pete didn't like it, I think Jack was being a tease tonight and Pete didn't like it"
"well we both know what Jack is like, he can get on any one nerve real easy"
"True, but Pete didn't apologise when you put a stop to it"
"I know, I'm going to have a talk to him about it later, but not tonight"
"Ok, shall we head back to the others?" Sam nodded
They headed back to the table, then Sam went to the ladies room, and then Pete left to go to the men's room.
"Jack, is everything set up?" Cassie asked
"Yep Teal'c is taking care of every thing as we speak, all I have to do is page him just before we leave"
"Jack what are you up to now?" Jacob asked
"Well since Teal'c couldn't come tonight, he is setting up everything at my place, you know cake, more drinks, and food, it is another surprise birthday party with friends. Hammond will be there with some of the members from the SGC, that is why we are having an early dinner tonight"
"Does Pete know about it?"
"No, Sam said, that he couldn't make it tonight, well that is what he told her"
"I see, her she comes"
"Feel better now?" Jack asked as she sat down
"Yes thanks, so what are you talking about?"
"Oh how beautiful you look tonight Sam" Jack said, smiling, making Sam blush,
Then Pete showed up, as soon as he sat down his pager went off, so he got up again after he saw what the message said, he left to go to make a phone call, then he returned back.
"Sorry Sam I have to go, call you later"
"Sure, bye"
Pete went to kiss her lips, but she turned and he got her cheek instead then he said his byes to the others before he left. They all notice that Sam started to relax once he was gone but didn't say anything about it. They all talked for a while before they all started to leave.
"See you later Sam, happy birthday" Janet said
"See ya Janet, Cassie, thanks for coming"
Then they left after they paid for their meal and drinks Sam went to get her credit card out.
"Sam put that away, we are paying for you dinner and drinks and there will be no arguing about it" Jack said.
"Jack you have spent a lot on me already"
"Sam"
"Ok, you win"
"Good"
Once everyone else paid for their meal, they went to leave when the waiter stopped Jack.
"Excuse me sir"
"We will wait for you outside Jack" Jacob said
"Ok" then he turned around facing the guy
"Yes, is there something I can help you with?"
"Yes sir, someone didn't pay for there meal"
"What we all paid for our dinner, there was a split pay for one meal could that be it?"
"We accounted for that sir, there was only six meals were paid for and there was seven at your table"
"Can I have a look at the ones who have paid"
"Yes sir" they went to the counter when Sam walked back in.
"Jack, is everything ok?"
"Yeah, just some muck up, that's all"
"Here you go sir" Jack was looking at the dockets.
"Jack what is it?"
"Dam him" Jack muttered to himself
"Jack"
"Sorry Sam, it seems that Shannon left without paying for his dinner" Jack got his wallet out and passed his credit card over.
"What, are you sure?"
"Yes, look, their Daniel, Janet, Jacob and my receipts, no Pete"
"Jack, I'm sorry" Sam looked sad and she felt guilty.
Jack signed the docket, and the guy passed back Jack's credit card and receipt, then he put them back in his wallet, he was looking at Sam at that time. He put his hands on her shoulders
"Sam it's not your fault, ok, come on, lets go"
Jack put his arm around her shoulder and they both walked out of the restaurant. When they arrived outside, both Jacob and Daniel notice the sad look on her face, then they look at Jack. He shook his head 'no'. They understood and he will tell them later.
They all said goodnight then Daniel and Sam left first, then Jack page Teal'c, before he left to head on home.
"Jack, why was Sam upset?"
"Shannon didn't pay for his dinner tonight"
"What?"
"Yea, that is why Sam was upset after we all had a good evening, look what happen"
"What are you going to do?"
"Tomorrow, I'm going to call Shannon and let him know that he owe me hundred and thirty five dollars for his meal and drinks"
