AN: Merry Christmas every one all the way from New Zealand
CH 4
"Will you be ok?"
"Yeah, I just got lots to think about"
"Ok, shell we birthday girl"
"Sure, is that cake?" Sam notice on top of Jack dresser
"Yep, your birthday cake. Sam whatever you wish for I hope it does come true for you"
"Thanks"
Jack got the two plates and passed one to Sam, and then they both left his room. When they passed Jack's front door, there was a knock, so Jack went to answer it while Sam went out the back to talk to some of the others there. When he opened the door, Pete was there.
"Hi, is Sam here?"
"Yep she out the back"
Jack steps back to let him in, then closes the door. Then Pete followed Jack out back, and as soon as Pete saw Sam, he went straight to her. Jacob saw Pete showed up so he walked over to where Jack was standing.
They both watch Pete walk over to her and give her a hug. Jacob was watching Jack's reaction, he could see the worry and hurt in him, and then they watched Pete with Sam. When Sam turned around to see Pete smiling and then giving her a hug, she saw the hurt in Jack's eyes.
"Pete"
"Sam, I'm sorry about leaving dinner early, there was a brake though with one of my cases here"
"Ok, have you got the money for Jack?"
"Yes sorry about that, so when are you heading home?"
"When the party's over"
"Ok, so you don't mind me sticking around. I could take you home after wards, if you like" he said, smiling
"Daniel is taking me home"
Pete doesn't' know that Daniel had pass out drunk after couple of beers
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, will you excuse me, I'm going to get a drink"
Then Sam left him to get a drink, she knew that she needed to get away, she knew of one place, so as soon as she got her beer. She manages to get around the side of the house where the ladder that leads up to Jack roof where his telescope was.
When she reached there, she climbed up it and sat on the chair there drinking her beer and looking at the stairs above not knowing that both Jacob and Jack saw where she went to. They knew that she needed space so she could think. So they both keep an eye on Pete.
George and Teal'c showed up with the extra food and drinks, so Jack helped them with everything and told them that Pete had shown up. Pete was looking around for Sam, but couldn't find her, so when he saw Teal'c he asks him
"Teal'c is it, do you know where Sam is?"
"She is around somewhere, will you excuse me?" Then Teal'c left him standing there.
So he started to look for her, but couldn't find her anywhere, so he went to talk to Jack.
"General O'Neill, do you know where Sam is, I can't find her anywhere?"
"She will be around, most properly talking to someone"
"Ok, where is your bathroom?"
"Down the hall, second on your left"
"Thanks"
Then he went inside to use the second bathroom in the house. Jack gave Teal'c a nod and he went inside to keep an eye on Pete, to make sure he wasn't snooping around. They went and talked to some of the guests there. Teal'c was hiding out in one of the bedrooms next to the bathroom waiting for Pete to walk out.
When he did, Teal'c watched him looking at the pictures on the wall. When he stopped at a door, he opened it to see what room it was. Teal'c knew it was Jack's bedroom, then he heard Pete Say.
"What the hell" then he closed the door and left.
Teal'c then quietly follows Pete to the lounge where Pete was having a look around, then he notices Pete pick up a photo that was on the mantle, and look at it, then return it. He looked at the different ones there, before he left to go back outside to look for Sam.
Teal'c walked over to the mantle and looked at the photo that Pete picked up and had a look at. It was last year's air force ball. It was a picture of Jack and Sam dancing close together and smiling at each other.
Then Teal'c went outside and told Jack what he saw Pete do. Jack wasn't happy about what Pete did in his house. Then he remembers what was in his bedroom. It was Sam's dress that she wore at the dinner earlier; it was still on his bed.
Pete notices that he couldn't see Daniel anywhere around. He finds where Jack is and walks over to him. He pulled out his wallet and pulled the money out. When he was next to Jack.
"General O'Neill, here is the money I owe you, sorry about what happened at dinner" Pete passes the money over to Jack.
"Thanks" Jack put the money in his pocket.
"Do you know where Sam is?"
"She will be around somewhere"
"Ok, well I better get going, if you see Sam, let her know that I'll call her tomorrow, bye"
"Sure, bye" then Pete left.
When Pete reached his car, he looked up at the house, when he saw Sam on the roof, so he went around the side of the house where he could see the ladder. He climbs it till he could see Sam sitting there looking at the stars. Her hairs rise on the back of her neck, so she looks around to see Pete standing there on the ladder.
"Pete"
"Hi Sam, I was just leaving when I saw you up here, what are you up here and not down there with you workmates?"
"I just wanted to be left alone for a while"
"Oh?"
"Yeah, I was just thinking"
"About what?"
"About what I want for my future"
"And?"
"I'm going to follow my heart and not my head"
"I don't understand?"
"Pete, you know that I like you. You are a great guy, but it won't work between us, I'm sorry, friendship yes, but that is it" Sam could see that Pete was getting angry
"It's General O'Neill isn't it. You're in love with him" His voice was starting to rise when he spoke to her.
"Yes, I have been for years, but we both know that we couldn't do anything cause of being under the same command and we still are"
"what is so interesting about him, he is to old for you"
"Well I don't care how old he is. I love him, ok. It is over between us Pete, I'm sorry. This time I'm going to follow my heart for once"
"Have you been sleeping with him?"
"That is none of your business" Sam stood up angrily then said. "I want you to leave now"
"Why so you can fuck your Co"
"Detective Shannon, what are you doing up there"
Which made them both jump, then they looked down to the voice down at the bottom of the ladder.
"He was just leaving dad"
"Are you ok Sam?"
"Yeah, I am"
"Well Detective"
"I want to know why she was up here"
"Well you come down here right now"
Pete climbed down, when he reached the bottom of the steps, he turned to see Jacob piss off.
"What are you still doing here?"
"I saw Sam up on the roof here, so I went to talk to her"
"You mean yell at her. I could hear you yelling at my daughter. Now you listen to me Detective, I don't not want to hear you yelling at my daughter again, do I make myself clear" Jacob said in General Voice
"Yes sir. I don't know what Sam see in General O'Neill, he to old for her"
"Is that right, well it is up to Sam whom she wants to see and go out with, not you or anyone else, understand?"
"Yes, I thought everything was going great between us, till tonight"
"Well that up to her, I suggest that you leave now"
"So you know that General O'Neill and Sam having an affair"
"What, that is a load of crap" Sam said. Then she climbs down the ladder to join them. Then she stood in front of Pete.
"How dear you talk like that. General O'Neill is more manly than you would ever be Pete. You wanted to know if we've been sleeping together, the answer is yes, we have been for seven years, I've even been sleeping with Teal'c and Daniel. Are you happy now" Sam was yelling at him this time.
"So you have been sleeping with your teammates?"
"Yes we've all been sharing the same tents for years." Pete was shock about what Sam just said,
"I think it's better if you left now Shannon"
"So this is how you reach the rank of colonel, you sleep your way to the top" Sam slapped him across the face.
"How dear you talk to me like that. I worked my ass off for me to get to where I am today; I did not sleep my way up the ranks. You don't know what sort of work I do and what hours I keep, I want you to leave right now and I don't want to see you every again"
"fine by me, you were no good in bed any way"
Sam punches him in the noise. They could hear it crack
"You broke my nose"
"Well you deserve it, for your information, you were no good in bed either and I was faking it the whole time, now leave" Pete turned and walked away.
Jacob stood there watching Sam for a moment, waiting for her to calm down. Then tears started falling down her cheeks and she turned to look at her father, then she went into his arms crying.
"Sam, look at me?" Sam moved back so she could look at her father. "Sam, are you in love with Jack?"
"Yes dad, I am. I have been thinking up on the roof about what Jack said to me tonight, about what has happened in the past eight years, everything."
"So what are you going to do about it?"
"Talk to him and take it from there"
"Ok, let's head back to the party"
"Ok"
They both headed back to where everyone else was. They talked to some of the ones who were there for about an hour before they all started leaving.
Three hours after Sam got a surprise birthday party at Jack place everyone had left. Hammond, Teal'c, Daniel, Jacob and Sam left, when everyone else was gone. Daniel was still out of it in Jack's guest bedroom. They were in the lounge drinking coffee and relaxing.
"Sam, are you ok?" Jack asked,
"Yes, I am now"
"Well Jacob and I heard Pete Yelling, I wanted to punch his light out, but Jacob said, that he will deal with it, so I let him"
"Jack Sam broke his nose"
"What and I miss it, damn"
"You should have seen it Jack, she was amazing, the look she gave Pete, will it have scared off any airmen, I tell ya, the way she is going. Sam will make full colonel in no time"
"Or even a brigadier General," Sam said smiling.
"Oy, I feel sorry for the ones under her command now" they all laugh
"Well we better head back, see you two in the morning" Jacob said.
They all got up and Sam hugged her father, Hammond and Teal'c before they left to head back to the SGC. Once they left, Jack and Sam went back and sat down on the couch.
"Want to talk about what happened with Shannon?" Jack said, looking at Sam.
"It's over between Pete and me, the way he accusing me having an affair with you, sleeping my way up the rank"
"What a brassard"
"Yea, I'm please it is over"
"Are you?"
"Yes, I was on your roof thinking about Pete, you, what we been through in the last eight years, every thing"
"So what have you decided?"
"What sort of dog to get"
She smiles at him then Jack remembers what he said to her when they were dancing at the restaurant about marriage, kids and dogs. Which made him smile.
"Sam, you know that it will be a big step for the both of us. Do you think you can put up with me and my habits?"
"Yes, after all it's taken me this long to get to know you and your habits and moods"
"Well that's good then, tomorrow I'll talk to George and the president and sign the papers first thing in the morning"
"What happens if they don't accept it?"
"They will"
"What will you do then, will you be bored and worried about me?"
"Well we will have to wait and see, won't we"
"True, well I better get going, see you tomorrow" they both got up and headed to the door.
"Sam, how are you going to get home?"
"I've got Daniel keys, you can drop him off at my place in the morning, so he could get his car then"
"Ok, we will drop by at 0700"
"Ok, see you in the morning Jack, and thank you for tonight"
Sam leans forward and gives Jack a kiss. They both wrap their arms around each other, when it becomes passionate. When they both came up for air, they both had their foreheads leaning against one another.
"I better go"
"I wish you could stay"
"One day Jack"
"I know, drive carefully"
"I will, I love you"
"I love you to"
Then they both kiss before Sam leaves Jack house. He watches her get in the car and leave. Then he went back inside and locked up the place and checked on Daniel before going to bed himself.
