CH 5
When he reaches his bedroom and turns the bedside lamp on, he sees Sam's bag and dress still on his bed, so he picks it up and smells it.
It smelled of Sam body lotion and perfume which made him smile, then he got one of his clothes hangers out of his wardrobe and hung it up with the jacket, then put it in his wardrobe. Then put the bag on the chair for the morning, so he would remember to return it back to Sam.
After he was in the bathroom, he stripped down to his tee shirt and boxers before he climbed into bed and set his alarm clock for the morning. Just and he just about to turn off the light, his phone rang, so he answers it.
"O'Neill"
"Jack I through about giving you a call to let you know that I got home safely"
"Sam, that's good to hear, talk to you in the morning"
"Ok, good night Jack, sweet dreams"
"Night Sam, sweet dreams sweetheart"
"I like that"
"What, me calling you sweet heart?"
"Well yes, honey"
"Sam"
Yes Jack" He knew that she was smiling on the other end of the phone
"Good night"
"Good night Jack, see you in the morning" then they both hung up.
Jack turns off the light and snuggles under the blankets, closing his eyes with a smile on his face thinking about Sam in a blue bikini up at his cabin.
When Sam hung up, she changed into her tank top and pyjama pants before she climbed into bed herself. After she turned off the lights, she also snuggled under the blankets with a smile on her face, thinking about Jack on their wedding day.
The next morning Jack and hung over Daniel showed up at Sam place, so that Daniel could get his car back, after he left them, they were in one another arms kissing passionately.
"I miss you Sam"
"I miss you too, did you have any dreams last night?"
"Yep, you?"
"Yes, what can you tell me about it?"
"Dreaming of you up at my cabin wearing a blue bikini" Jack said, smiling, flicking his eyebrows at her. Making her giggle.
"What about you?"
"Oh, dreaming about our wedding day"
"Oh, who knows, it might come true"
"I hope so to Jack"
"Well much as I love to hold you in my arms like this all day. We better head to the mountain. I got lots of lovely meetings with three teams and heaps of paperwork to do and memos to read also"
"Well you know where I am if you get board"
"Thanks, we better go"
They kiss one more time before they both leave together. When they both arrived in their cars, the airmen on duty told them that Hammond wanted to see them straight away.
So after they both got changed, they headed to Jack's office, when they both got close, Walter said for them to go to the briefing room, so they went in there. When they arrived there, they both were shocked to see who was there.
"Sir what's going on?" Jack asked.
"Jack, Sam please sit," Hammond said. They all sat down around the briefing room table.
"Sir, what's going on?" Sam asked
"Well Jacob and I had a talk last night when we returned and we called the president and the joint chief last night, we had them beamed here, we were up all night talking and arguing about you two and SG1"
"Sir?"
"You two know about the regs and I guess you two want to be together, right?" they both nodded.
"Well Jacob and I did try for you both, sorry"
"Thanks sir, if you will excuse me for a minute"
"Sure"
Jack got up and went to his office; they all watched him pull an envelope out of his drawer, then he looked at Sam. She knew what it was, so she gave him the nod and a smile, knowing that she would back him up. He gave her a nod in return and smiled. The other saw the nods between them and the smile. They were confused by it.
Then he took the letter out and signed it and put yesterday's date on it. Then they saw him near the fax machine, once they finished there. He folded it up again and put it in the envelope and walked back out of the briefing room, then he handed it to the president, then went back and sat down next to Sam.
"General O'Neill, what is this?"
"My retirement papers sir"
"What, you can't do that, we need you"
"Mr president, we have saved earth ass god knows how many times in the past eight years, I had enough, we had enough. You know that there is a strong bond between colonel Carter here and myself. We both want to be together, settle down, get married and start family. I'm not young any more; we want to do this before it is too late for us both to do anything. Hell I should of done some thing about it long time ago, but you need us, SGC need us, allies need us to save their asses, well it's about time we do something for us before it is to late"
"But we need both of you here"
"We have put our private lives on hold for eight years, no more, I'm sorry if that is how you feel sir" Jack stood up and walked out.
"Sam, do you feel that same way?"
"Yes dad, I do, after all I'm not getting any younger myself, both Jack and I feel the same way. I do want to get married and start a family before it's too late for me also. Sir if you can't accept what's in front of you, perhaps there is another way where you can keep both of us on the stargate program and for us to be married as well. At least everyone will be happy then. The choice is yours. If you will excuse me, I'm going to talk to Jack." Sam got up and started to walk to the door.
"Colonel Carter, do you know where he is?" Sam stopped and turned around to look at the men in the room and smiled.
"Remember I have known Jack for eight years, cause I know where he is when someone pisses him off" then Sam left them alone to head to the gym. She saw Walter.
"Walter if my father and the others what to know what General O'Neill is, tell them to look in the gym"
"That bad Colonel?"
"You have no idea" then she headed to the gym.
When she arrived there, Jack was taking his anger out on the bag and she also could hear him mumbling under his breath. She walked over to the bag and held it for him like Teal'c used to do for him. She waited for him to make the first step in talking to her.
Twenty minutes later, Sam could see the sweat pouring off him and he was getting tired from taking his anger and frustrations out on the bag, but Still Sam waited for him to talk to her. When he stops and leans on to the bag, he is looking at her, which always calms him down. Sam took the gloves off him so she could hold onto both of his hands.
"Sam what are we going to do?" Jack spoke after a few minutes of silence.
"I gave them something to think about"
"Well we could always contact Thor and have him beam us to a nice tropical planet" Sam smiled.
"Well let's just wait and see first, shall we. We both know that they don't want to lose us both, so let's just wait and see what happen"
"Ok, I don't know about you, but I feel like some cake, care to join me?" Jack said, smiling
"First you shower and then come and get me from the lab"
"Ok"
They both left together, Sam went to her lab, while Jack went to have his shower. Twenty minutes later Walter showed up.
"Excuse me col Carter, do you know where General O'Neill is, I've checked the gym and he wasn't there?"
"He is standing right behind you" Jack said, making Walter jump. He turned around looking at his CO.
"Sorry sir, ah SG4 is ready to leave got PYX 276 sir"
"Ok, I'll be there in a minute Walter, dismiss"
"Yes sir" then he left them alone.
"Well duty calls, rain check on the cake?"
"I'll be here," Sam said, smiling
"Ok, don't work too hard"
"You to sir"
"Yeasureabetcha" Jack said, as he was leaving Sam lab.
Jack went to see SG4 off before heading to his office. When he got there, he quickly and quietly closed the door to the briefing room and closed the blinds. He could hear them all still talking in there before closing the door. Sam carries on working in the lab as always. An hour later she got a phone call.
"Carter"
"Sam they want to talk to us"
"Ok, I'm on my way" she hung up and closed her computer down, before leaving. When she arrived, she sat down next to Jack.
"Ok sir now that we both are here, are you going to let me retire so I can have a relationship with Sam?"
"Well yes and no"
"What do you mean sir?"
"Jack, Sam you both know that I was meant to retire eight years ago, well I'm going to retire at the end of the week, and we know of someone who can take over my job, if he is up to it of course" Hammond said, smiling.
"Who?" Jack asked.
Sam looks at Hammond who was looking at Jack with a grin on his face. Then Sam relies on what they were doing.
"Jack they want you to take over General Hammond job"
"What, no"
"Jack, think about it please. At least I won't be under your command"
"But I'll have to move to Washington"
"I've got an idea, but we need to contact the rebel jaffa and Thor"
"What for Sam?" Jacob asked
"Well see if there is a cargo ship we can put it on the moon and have the Asgard transport technology on the ship, but only sustain people can use it"
"What if the trust get hold of it and use it" the president asked
"It won't work cause Thor has got a copy of our DNA. Like when Jack here had the ancient knowledge down loaded, it picked up his gene, to activate the device. So if I can do up a device with Thor help with copies of our DNA, it would only work soon as it recognise who we are"
"What are you saying Sam?" Jack asked
"Think about it Jack, if you do take this job and you have to work in Washington, at least you can beam from there to here or at home within a few seconds. At least you can still live here in Colorado Springs and you won't get yourself lost in Washington" Sam said, smiling.
"But who will take over from me?"
"Do you know someone who could do it Jack?" Hammond asked.
"Yes I do, but he hasn't got clearance. I've known him for years"
"who?"
"General Hank landry, I've know him for over twenty five years sir's"
"We will think about it. In the meantime contact the rebel Jaffa and the Asgard, see if they can help us or not"
"Yes sir"
"Dismiss"
Then both Jack and Sam stood up and saluted before they both left together. Sam went to the control room so she could send a signal to Asgard for their help, while Jack went to see Teal'c about talking to the rebel jaffa. Half an hour later Teal'c left to go and talk to the council about a ship.
The president and the joint chief of staff left to head back to Washington. Hammond stayed behind to catch up on what's been going on since he was last there. Jack carried on with his paperwork, while Sam carried on in her lab.
When Teal'c returned, he gave Jack the good news. There is one ship that they could have, and they are sending a mother ship to the moon since the cargo ship, which they could have doesn't work any more, but only life support systems still work and the computer also. All they had to do was wait to hear from Asgard.
Jacob returns back to the tok'ra, but promises to return in a few weeks' time. Both Jacob and Jack had a pep talk about Sam, but Jacob knows that Jack wouldn't hurt her and that she trusts him with her life. He even gave Jack his blessing if they decided to get married.
Two day's later Thor showed up after receiving Sam's message. He agree to help Sam with the transporting device and set up a computer on the cargo ship where only certain people can activate it. When it was done and tested, both Jack and Sam thank Thor for his help.
When Jack and Sam weren't on the base, they were either at his place or hers. The joint chief of staff gave Jack the go ahead about telling Hank about the stargate program and letting him know that he will be the new CO of stargate command once Jack takes over Hammond's job.
He was shocked and it was a joke, till Jack transported them up to the cargo ship, then down to the gate room. After they both talk, Jack introduces Hank to Sam, Daniel, Walter, Teal'c and some of the other's there, plus showing him around the base as well the stargate. He was shocked, but looking forward to his new command. Then they both were transported back to Hank's house.
It was Friday night, when Jack took Sam out to dinner; they went to a quiet romantic restaurant. They both enjoy the quiet dinner over candle light with soft music in the background.
"Sam there is something I want to ask you"
"What is it Jack?"
"Sam, will you marry me, become my wife?"
"Oh Jack, yes, I will marry you"
"But I haven't got a ring for you" Sam laughed and held on to his hands.
"Jack, why don't we go shopping in the morning to look for one or do you want to do it yourself?"
"We can do it together"
"Great, I love you Jack O'Neill with two 'L'" Sam said, smiling
"I love you Samantha Carter soon to be O'Neill with two 'L'" Jack said, grinning back.
