CHAPTER 12
Late that night, as Chet was being lulled to sleep by the chatter of the baboons, he was instantly awakened by the sudden silence. A few moments later he heard footsteps coming his way. Chet got to his feet and stood waiting for whatever was coming his way.
Dr. Warner stood to the side while Raymond opened the cage. Chet noticed that Dr. Warner was holding a syringe.
"I hope I don't have to use this. Raymond is going remove your restraint. You'll then come with us."
"Where are you taking me?"
In a not-so-gentle manner, Raymond patted Chet's cheek. "Don't you worry your pretty little head about where we're taking you, Chet!"
Once Chet was free, Raymond shoved him forward. With reluctance and dread, Chet let himself be escorted out of the cage. As he was being led out he glanced back, trying to catch a glimpse of his furry friend.

Frank was unable to find a hotel that was close enough to the Institute but managed to find a secluded wooded area to park the van. They were trying to get some rest when Carolyn suddenly woke, screaming in terror.
"SHE'S AN ASSASSIN!"
Joe, who was closest to Carolyn, moved even closer to comfort her. "Who's an Assassin, Carolyn?"
"That girl…the one asking for Chet."
"You mean Samantha?" Joe looked over at Frank.
"Yes…I told you I had seen her before….just before we left…the Assassins had been looking for others…adults, children, anyone who might have telekinetic abilities. Samantha was one of them! She was one of the new recruits!"
Joe and Frank were too stunned to say anything; they didn't want to believe that the Assassins would want to recruit an army of telekinetics. Joe turned to look at his brother.
"Frank. Do you think the Gray Man knows about this?"
"He must Joe, why else would he want Carolyn?"
Biff shook his head in disbelief. "But I thought he wanted to protect her?"
"It's possible he did in the beginning," Frank quietly replied. "And then he found out what the Assassins were planning."
"I know you wanted to wait till midnight before we went in to get Chet," Joe said, "But I think we should go in now, Frank."
"Okay. While we were driving around looking for a hotel, I noticed an animal habitat. If I calculated correctly, we should be directly behind it. Stay close together, I'm fairly sure we won't meet any guards since we'll be on the legitimate side of the Institute."
"I hope you're right, Frank," Biff mumbled.

The old baboon watched the two men take the young boy away. He could sense the fear from the boy, but the baboon had also seen the syringe and was afraid. The animal knew what it could do, so it sat quietly in the tree.
Once the humans had left, everything went back to normal for the primates. They became excited when they heard the back door being pried open, they silently watched as four young teens walked inside. One baboon became very agitated when he smelled a familiar scent. Scurrying down the tree, the baboon ran towards the four young humans.
Biff let out a startled yelp when a baboon suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Aah! I'm being attacked by a hairy ape!"
"He won't hurt you, Biff."
Like Biff, Carolyn had also been frightened, and then she recognized the half-white face of the baboon. She had always thought it gave the appearance of a beard on the baboon. While Carolyn got reacquainted with her old "friend," Joe checked around the habitat.
"Frank, come look at this!" Joe said in a loud whisper.
"What'd you find, Joe?"
"Why is there a cage in here? And look, there's a leg iron, someone must have been kept here."
"Someone named Chet!"
