Steven
I was happily spending time on the beach the day after my 18th birthday. Since the events of my mental breakdown a year ago I've made my way across the country city by city spending at least a week on average in each while attending my scheduled meetings with my therapist. I've met a great number of people along the way but this person has to be the most intimidating. She literally oozed power and that made me very wary.
"Hello, Steven. I'm Chaos and I'm a really big fan of yours. Your legend precedes you young hero, so much so that I'd like to request your talents in helping others in a different world. Would you be willing to help them out for a bit?" she asked
"How long?" I inquired suspiciously
"Just about a year give or take, you can bring two companions with you if that makes you more comfortable," Chaos Bargained
"That sounds pretty fair, when do we leave?" I asked
"We? You've already decided who your bringing?" Chaos questioned
"Yeah, I'm bringing Connie and Lion with me." I answered nonchalantly putting my shirt and shoes on.
"Good Choices, would you like me to bring them here or would you like to go to them? Chaos asked
Go to them," I answered
Chaos held her hand out, I grabbed it and instantly we appeared in Connie's room. Connie was entranced in her studies, so I tapped her and the reaction she had was priceless.
"Steven! What are you doing here? When did you get here?" Connie rambled quickly as she hugged me.
"I had a bit if help, Connie meet Chaos, Chaos meet Connie." I told her gesturing to the area of the room Chaos appeared.
"It's very nice to meet you Connie, I've heard only wonderful things about you." Chaos greeted Connie with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too," Connie reciprocated.
"Now straight to business, you both are aware of Greek mythology, Correct?" Chaos asked.
"Yes," we answered in sync.
"Good because the people that you'll be interacting with are one way or another apart of it. Most commonly the demigods." Chaos explains everything about the two camps, the history behind them and how the conflicts between the two side have effected history drastically. "But put that on the backburner for now, when you arrive there will be conflict happening on both coasts but you'll be going to camp half-blood first to get acquainted with them. Any questions so far?"
"No not really, but I don't know about accepting any of this. I still have work to do before the summer is out and I have to get ready for school" Connie admitted.
"If it's time that's the issue I can stop time here until you return in a year, or make a year there a few days here. Which would you prefer? Chaos asked genuinely.
"The second one sounds better," Connie answers.
"Good choice, I know it's a lot to take in but there are boundaries that must be established in order for this transaction to work the way it should. Firstly, the two camps currently have no idea of each others existance and cannot be told of the other by the two of you. Secondly, beyond the abilities I bestow you before your departure I cannot intervene afterwards for I have very little power to do so I will be assigning someone to you. During your trip you will have my divine protection of your life, you can still be injured or anything else of that matter but death is not something you need to worry about as long as it's not self inflicted. Lastly, by accepting this transaction you will become my adopted demigod children granting you the average demigod abilities with an extra ability of your choice. Do you still accept?
Connie spoke for both of us when she responded "We're not backing out, but how will we know who that is?"
Chaos grinned and gestured for the both to stand before her. "You'll know when you know," Chaos answered mysteriously.
"Now repeat after me, I by the power vested in myself by Chaos solemnly swear to uphold our agreement, I swear upon the void of chaos," Chaos chanted as she lay her hands upon our heads giving us our chosen abilities while we chanted.
A portal of golden hue opened and we turned to look at it. "One last thing, be careful enemies lurk," Chaos said tossing Connie a backpack as we walked through the portal.
Normally portals served their purpose by delivering the user to a specific space but even I couldn't make much sense of what the hell was going on. We were on top of a very tall building overlooking an army invading the city so something had to give, especially if Chaos chose this place to drop us off.
"Why? Why? Why," I groaned repeatedly.
"That doesn't look very good, an army would come in handy right now," Connie shared surprised at the sight of the sheer numbers of the army marching on one building with hundreds vs the decreasing number of injured and battered demigods keeping them at bay.
When Connie said that I remembered something pearl said years ago, "your mother had the ability to grow sentient plant life to be her defenders,"
In that instant I came up with a plan, "We have to split up," I expressed uncomfortably.
"Seeing how this is already going if we have any chance of helping the demigods without getting ourselves killed you need to find the nearest grocery store, plant shop, garden, whatever's closest and I'll help them until you get back" I told her.
She gave me a look of understanding, so I knew that she understood what I was asking of her but I really didn't want her to leave.
"Stay safe ok," I told her.
Connie chuckled, "I'll be fine," she tried reassure me by kissing me but I couldn't help but worry. She mounted Lion and took off through a portal and into the streets of the city.
"Well here goes nothing," I mumbled to himself running to the edge and jumping off the building.
It all happened in a blur, in a split second windows panels shattered and monsters shuddered a feeling of dread, even the Titan lord Kronos was made aware of this power for the short time it made itself known.
I landed in the path a Hyperborean Giant's club to save a specific girl I took notice of during the short minute Connie and I watched. Her faint glow of red seemed to be vanishing quickly but she still held a ferocity in her eyes. I'd need to exploit that in order to gain some type of control over her fellow demigods.
"Steven," I greeted helping her up quickly.
"Clarisse," she reciprocated.
"I'll handle this, do me a favor and gather the rest of the your people in front of the building entrance and stay there," Steven told her.
I could see her suspicions about me in her eyes but instead of disobeying she listened and ordered her fellow demigods into retreat. The monsters eagerly followed them only to be stopped by my pink walls blocking them. I used the walls to push them back away form the retreating demigods while my barrier started formed around the building entrance.
"Now Now everyone I'm sure we can talk this out, could I speak to your leader?" I asked kindly summoning my bubble glove and punching the Hyperborean giant who attempted to strike me several feet into the air landing on top of other monsters and rogue demigods in Kronos's army.
My eyes met a set of golden eyes and tension stirred almost immediately, I could tell he was the boss.
"Interesting, but the time for speaking is over, move or be destroyed." Kronos threatened
"That is so cringe, do you seriously have nothing better to say or are you as bad at using words as you were a father?" I mocked.
I may not know as much as Connie about all this stuff but even I've heard of the Titan Lord Kronos and his horrendous actions. He honestly makes mom seem like a saint, which I guess she kinda is but that's complicated.
"Let me deal with this filth Lord Kronos," The boy with an eyepatch spoke up.
Kronos seemed to think about it for a second
"Fine, make it quick we don't have all day demigod." He responded with contempt
Ethan stepped forward and Kronos and his army moved back making space for the spectacle as if they were in a colosseum.
"Can I at least get your name first?" I asked
"Ethan Nakamura, Son Of Nemesis and Commander Of Kronos's Forces," He answered formally.
"Well Ethan Nakamura, I'd like to offer my sincerest apologies about this."
Meanwhile, Connie found herself in a very peculiar position stuck on a very specific island after successfully raiding the grocery store of fruits with lots of seeds. She knew that Steven was waiting for her but there was something tugging her that she couldn't ignore. "Lion stay here, I'll be back,"
As she walked the beach eventually ended giving way to one of the most beautiful gardens she'd ever seen. "Wow," Connie said in awe of the different varieties of Plants and the colors they brung to the garden but the one thing that intrigued her the most was where the tugging led her.
"Hello?" she called prompting a girl looking the same age as Connie to respond.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" The girl responded with both confusion and hostility.
"I'm Connie, and I'm supposed to be somewhere else right now but I was led here by a mysterious feeling," she explained
"A feeling?" The girl mocked in contempt.
"A feeling indeed, my great great grandchild. Your time trapped here has come to an end, Calypso, you will go with Connie here and help the demigods in Manhattan" Chaos said making her presence known.
Calypso was overwhelmed in that moment, not only had she been granted her freedom but she had orders to go to Manhattan, the gardenless city Percy had mentioned to her over a year ago. "Yes Chaos," she complied noting the presence of such a unique aura.
"I've taken the liberty of slowing down time, so you'll make it back to the battle in time but this is my last intervention. Calypso shall take the reigns from here. I'm sure you both have a bit to talk about so i'll leave you be but please do it as you walk, time can only go so slow." Chaos remarked as her essence shimmered away in the wind.
There was a moment of silence, "I believe reintroductions are in order, I was quite rude to you, I'm Calypso." she greeted walking over to Connie.
"I'm Connie but you already know that, there's quite a lot to fill you in on so we better start walking,"
"Sounds interesting, it's been a long time since I had any proper female company." Calypso beamed.
