Silence reigned on the walls of the city, the guards motionless, their armors put on and their white bows in their hands. The tension was high as well as the fear.
"It's so quiet..." A red-haired elf spoke barely above a whisper. She looked young though age is hard to tell among elves
"The calm before the storm" Another more mature semblance of the face replied. A loud clap of thunder was heard. They looked ahead beyond the city. There was the gargantuan black cloud. It had been a week since he had stopped and hadn't moved.
"The storm...it's a good choice" She turned her head towards her partner "What do you think he's waiting for?" »
" I do not know. At first I thought he wanted to intimidate us but it didn't really make sense after two days, he even let reinforcements arrive with Oromë and his hunters..."
"He doesn't hope to be able to take the city after all, when Oromë is there? Alone moreover. » She was trying to look determined but everyone could see she was scared, because almost everyone in the city was scared. There was reason, the best lieutenant of Morgoth, who was able to succeed where his master failed and exterminated thousands of elves is now preparing to besiege Tirion.
He did not answer, he looked once more at the cloud then turned towards the top of the city towards the palace where Oromë and their king were surely waiting for the enemy to make the first move.
"Don't worry Esstel, we will win I promise you"
A small smile appeared on the young elf's face.
In the throne room, Oromë paced, glancing up at the cloud from time to time.
King Finwë decided he was sick of seeing him wandering around aimlessly.
"Can you calm down I beg you, you will make me nauseous"
Oromë went to rest against the window and stared at his enemy.
" Why hasn't he attacked yet? I would have launched the assault days ago if I were him. What does he gain by waiting any longer? »
Finwë went to stand on his right although Oromë was twice as tall as him. "No one knows what Sauron thinks, three thousand years he has been hiding from us, it does not surprise me that he still continues today. »
" Yes, but why now? He could have attacked before I arrived but he didn't try anything to stop us. He let us pass. »
"Does he want more reinforcements to arrive to destroy us all at once?"
The Vala scoffed. " He must be really sure of himself if that's his intention, but I can't see him fighting thousands of elves, Maiar and me at the same time "
Silence returned, then we heard the trumpet of the door ringing, drawing Oromë's gaze to her.
Finwë was also staring at the door. He spoke softly.
"For the good of all of us, I hope"
" What is going on ? Esstel turned her gaze to the door as the horn sounded not far from her.
His partner also looked towards the doors trying to make out the reason for the alert and after a bit of searching he found it.
"Two Maiar gave the alert"
The two seemed to be staring at a point towards the entrance of the cloud but the elf couldn't make out anything unusual, if that cloud could be called 'normal'.
Esstel in turn spotted the Maiars "That doesn't ring any bells for me"
He could only nod.
Oromë and Finwë both armed arrived at the door where the Maiar were in blue robes.
The two bowed as soon as the Vala and the Elven King arrived.
" Get up. » As soon as they did he continued, " What 's going on Alatar, Pallando?"
" We think Sauron is there " he said pointing to an empty meadow two hundred yards from the gates " Besides we think he's been waiting there all along "
" Excuse me? » Oromë looked at them, incomprehension on his face.
"In my opinion, he uses a spell that makes him invisible to our eyes and our senses"
Finwë joined in the conversation "How do you know he's there if you can't see it or smell it?"
Alatar grimaced a little " I think he's making fun of us. He deliberately left traces on the ground to see how long it would take us to see them. He's been testing us from the start and I'm ashamed to say we fell for it. "
Focusing on the location, Finwë indeed saw traces in the earth.
"If Sauron finds the time to laugh at us, he is sure of his victory"
Oromë growled and approached the edge of the wall to be visible from outside the city
He did nothing but cast a steely glare at the area presuming where Sauron would be.
For a few moments nothing happened, then suddenly Sauron appeared in the middle of the clearing out of nowhere. Dark and menacing, he stared at Oromë who stared back at him.
Esstel swallowed hard when she saw one of the two most feared beings in Arda's history. His partner too, like all the elves present, stared at the dark lord.
Finally, Sauron slowly raised his right arm and pointed it towards the city, the thunder rumbled and the cloud suddenly advanced at high speed. He engulfed Sauron and headed towards the city ready to engulf everything.
Oromë remembered Manwë's words about the cloud. It prevented the fëa of Ëonwë from reaching the halls of Mandos, so every elf who dies in this cloud will be a prisoner of it until it disperses. He had to stop his advance.
He took his large bow made of the wood of the Great Trees and shot an arrow into the sky, the arrow whistling and exploding, causing a white light to signal the Maiar to take action.
All around the city walls magical barriers began to appear, growing in size at high speed. Eventually they all came together and formed a huge barrier protecting Tirion.
The cloud collided with the barrier. He started to pile up against her and roll over. The barrier let nothing through but the cloud ended up engulfing the globe of light like a wolf trapping its prey between its fangs.
Although Tirion was protected, it was now cut off from the world, with no hope of further reinforcement.
Inside, the elves were amazed and terrified, the power of the Ainurs unknown to most. Finwë stared without showing emotions at the cloud that was constantly trying to pierce the Maiar's barrier.
"How long can they last like this? »
Oromë didn't look at him as he too stared at the cloud.
" If they regularly switch places to rest, more than a month or so "
Finwë accepted the answer as better than nothing.
"It's going to be a very long month"
"And to think that there was a war more powerful than that once" Esstel gripped the hilt of her sword tightly. Her shift over but still alert. "I can't imagine what the War of Anger must have been like..."
"And believe me you don't want to know, now drop that sword and try to rest, you won't do much good if you're tired" his partner was lying on his bed, disarmed and one arm resting on their eyes.
"How can you be so relaxed? It's beyond me. » She looked at him above him. He didn't answer which pissed her off a bit. "Hey! Are you listening to me at least? " Still no answer.
If there's something Esstel couldn't stand it's being ignored, and he knew it, he was doing it on purpose. An idea came to her and she left the room.
He heard her striding away, visibly annoyed. A few seconds of silence later he allowed himself to try to sleep. The city was silent, too silent… he should have heard Esstel break an object to de-stress as she usually does, but the surroundings of the dormitory were silent. Sensing something was wrong, he opened his eyes to see a smiling Esstel, a bucket of water in her hand. 'how could I not hear her approach?' He didn't have time to flee before she threw ice water on him.
She burst out laughing "You should see your face!" She held her stomach so much she was laughing. With a more than annoyed look, he got up and walked over to the towels trying not to strangle her.
Seeing his expression, she sighed, "Oh it's okay, you wanted me to relax didn't you?" There it is for sure I am. »
He continued to ignore her and left the dormitory.
"Oh no, he's sulking now. She sighed in exasperation before running after him. "Hey! Wait for me Aerir! »
Elsewhere in the cloud, Sauron watched the barrier repel his attack.
He felt a presence behind him but did not turn back.
" How are the operations going? » He asked the presence kneeling behind him.
A deep and guttural voice replied " They have landed on the shore and await your orders my lord "
" The orders are the same. Send the legions to the halls of Aulë, destroy all resistance. »
" The Ents of the Oromë woods will not let us pass without a fight. He still answered on the floor, his head down.
" Tell them to burn the forest, none of them survive if necessary "
" And we, my lord? What is our mission ? »
Sauron thinks a little before answering " Let the Nazgul join me, all the Nazgul "
Having received his orders, the being got up and went to mount an unknown winged beast of Valinor which flew in the direction of the Silver Gates leaving the Maia where it was to contemplate the elven city. His next moves already in mind.
Thunder rumbled around him.
OK
- Beginning of the Siege of Tirion
-I don't know if Finwë is still king of Tirion, he died fighting Morgoth but I don't know if the Valar allowed him to resume his role as king, he followed Fëanor after all.
-Esstel and Aerir are OC, I thought to put Legolas but in fact he was never born in my story. Thranduil having died at the Last Alliance.
-Alatar and Pallando are the Blue Mages if you didn't know.
- I don't know yet who survived the Last Alliance. I have plans for several important figures but for example Galadriel, I don't know if she managed to escape or Sauron got her.
-Comments if you want, open to ideas, the rest is coming soon
