"He who lives without discipline dies without honor." Icelandic Proverb

1002 A.D., South France

Kol walked out with Eira to "see her garden." It was further past the official kitchen garden of the cook.

"It is just some herbs my grand-mère used to use for ailments, m'lord. Nothing too exotic," Eira explained calmly.

Kol noticed the bright purple spikes right away and pointed, "Tell me about this one, my dear."

Eira thought he was rather confident for such a young man, but he was a lord. They were a different breed.

"It is called verveine, good for treating pus and belly pain. I thought it might help heal the L-Lord Lucian's arse, if you beg my pardon," Eira faltered.

"Why so uncomfortable about his title?" Kol pressed.

"He was a lord as a child. He would come here with his Lord Father to play with my mistress, the Lady Aurora, then, after the Count took him in as a stableboy, he was a servant, just like us. Yet, he always had the airs of a lord amongst the small folk. Many would have liked to see your brother thrash him like a boy yesterday, as he has rubbed them the wrong way," Eira explained.

"Did you tell the others about his hiding?" Kol asked looking into her eyes. He was not sure why he even cared, but he thought his brothers might be interested.

"Nay, Lucien has been kind to me, so I was kind to him. But there are few secrets in a castle, as you may know, lord," Eira said as she began to pick some herbs and store them in her apron.

"I do not really know," Kol replied honestly.

"Were you not living at your father's estate? The Count de Guise?" Eira pressed in confusion.

Kol remembered the name of the family who they had fed on when they met Lucien in the first place.

"Oh, our castle is much larger. Plus, I was sent away, my father wanted me to be a priest, but they expelled me," Kol said thinking fast.

Eira giggled, "I cannot see you as a priest, m'lord. You are much too slender."

Kol laughed, too. He looked at the pretty girl with new eyes.

"You are clever, Eira. Please take care around the lords of the castle, they can be dangerous. Myself included. Do me a favor and take some of that verveine and keep it in your pockets there. It could keep you safe," Kol informed her.

"In my pocket? Oh, like a charm. Aye, lord, if it is your will. I best get back to the kitchen. Cook will take that bread paddle to anyone shirking their duty. I do not wish to have to make the salve for myself again," Eira grinned cheekily. Kol almost flushed to think of the shapely beauty applying it to her own form.

"By God's bones, I just realized I am late for lessons! Put the vervain in your pockets!" Kol reminded her as he trotted off. He was tempted to vamp to the makeshift study, but figured if someone saw him, he would just be in more trouble.

By the time Kol got to the study, his hose were splattered with mud and his hair was disheveled. The old scholar was already droning on about something in a manuscript. He was a hefty, old man with a brown cossack on and a large wooden cross around his neck. Kol's vampire eyes noticed a switch resting on the table next to some instruction materials.

"And you are?" the master asked hoarsely.

"I am Kol, master. Apologizes, I was seeing to a sick horse," Kol fibbed.

Tristan interrupted, "Oh no, m'lord, I hope not your horse. That stallion has not yet been bred yet, or so I have heard."

Lucien snickered, "Not from lack of trying. Everyone at the stables is quite randy."

Kol shook his head, "Nay, my lord count, a different beast. Please go on."

"That is quite enough of a distraction!" Elijah cleared his throat from the darkened corner of the room, "Brother, I will speak to you after your lesson in my chamber. I expect you to obey the master directly."

To the master, "Please do not hesitate to lay stripes on these young men for any reason. A proper thrashing a day would probably set the tone for them to concentrate and retain your wisdom, good sir."

"Elijah, I need to speak to you about something!" Kol said urgently.

"Tell me after your lesson when we...speak. Behave yourself, if that is possible," Elijah added.

Kol huffed in irritation and plopped down on the hard bench. He was bored already.

The ancient round man stood, "Very well, as you wish, m'lord. Count, as the lord here, you are first. Lean over the desk here and flip up your tunic."

Elijah nodded his approval and got up to leave. He gave Kol a hard look that made Kol cringe.

Lucien whispered, "Looks like you are in for more than one whipping today."

Kol winced, "How hard can this old priest strike us? He looks a step away from the grave."

Just then, they heard the stick whistle down on Tristan's outstretched behind. His hose provided little protection. Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Tristan could only take five before water began to slip from his eyes. His behind felt welted with stinging lines of fire. Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

"My lord Kol, you are next," the scholar called out as Tristan returned to his seat slowly. Kol saw him wiping tears from his face.

"Come on, I am sure you can face a lashing with a little hazel switch, eh?" the old man jested.

"Sir, I do not even know your name," Kol answered back.

"Friar John. Now you're getting another five for your delay. I whipped tougher lads that the lot of you," Friar John said. He roughly pushed Kol over and flipped up his tunic. Kol tried to turn when he felt the Friar peel down his hose to bare his seat.

"But you left Tristan his modesty!" Kol protested. "Need I bare my buttocks to the whole room?"

"Aye, but he was not late, ergo he kept his modesty," Friar John laughed jovially.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

"Owwww," Kol wailed. "I shall never be late again." He wondered if Eira would make him some salve without the vervain.

Lucien let out a laugh when Kol hollered. Friar John promised to bare his behind also which shut him up quickly.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Friar John directed Kol to seat by Tristan after he yanked up his hose.

Lucien was not eager to take his whipping, but the old man yanked him up to the desk and bared him.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

"Now, let us get back to our study of Latin. We will start by reading The Aeneid by Virgil...," Friar said merrily.

Kol shifted on the hard wooden bench and whispered, "I am going to drain this bastard. My arse is welted. How can an old fellow hit so hard?"

"Lord Kol, I suppose you want another whipping! Back up over the desk," Friar John stated dryly.

"But I was not talking!" Kol wailed.

"Every second you delay is five more lick. You are up to ten. Your brother wants a report so he can double the penalty. Hurry, boy. Bare yourself," the Friar said with a sign picking up his switch again.

Kol exhaled and stomped back up to the desk and bent over, "Just thrash me already!" Kol flipped up his tunic, but did not take down his hose. They really did not protect him anyway from the sting of the stick.

Friar went up and swatted him firmly with his hand. Smack! Smack! Smack! Smack! Smack!

"These do not count so I advise you to make haste if you would like to sit again this week, young man! Your brother asked me to call him if you were insubordinate," Friar John recalled.

Kol groaned and lowered his hose to right below his bottom. The friar lowered it to his knees and lined up the switch with the boy's behind. Odd that it was unmarked again. His eyesight must be getting poorer or perhaps he needed to lay the stripes down harder.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Outside of Study

Klaus listened to the whipping with alarm outside of the door. He was about to go in and rescue his brother. Sometimes Elijah was too strict with Kol, he thought. But then, it ended and the old priest got back to the lessons. Klaus and Elijah had private lessons with the old man later in the evening themselves.

"My lord, there are visitors," a kitchen boy ran up to alert him.

"Oh," Klaus said in surprise. There were always visitors, he was not sure why the boy fetched him, but the lad ran off before he could press him for details.

Klaus made his way to the Great Hall to find his sister. Rebekah screeched and ran up to Klaus happily.

"Little Sister, I was bloody getting worried," Klaus sighed as he hugged her tightly. Just seeing Rebekah brightened his day.

"Nik, I have missed you," Rebekah breathed. "Finn is tiresome and mirthless. He said he was going to have a talk with Elijah about my behavior. I think is wants him to spank me for mocking him. But Nik, he is so tiresome!"

"Elijah and I have had our hands full with the lads here. Kol is back. I think he got into some trouble with some witches in Spain. The gods only know what really happened. So do not worry about Elijah now, he does not have the time for Finn's pettiness. Speaking of, where is Finn?" Klaus asked looking around.

"I do not know and I do not care. Can you show me to a bed chamber? I must bathe and fed," Rebekah said with desperation.

"Aye, let me displace the steward. He can move to a different wing. Oh, there are our brothers," Klaus said.

"Finn, brother, you look well. Rebekah was just telling me how much she enjoyed your little sojourn," Klaus lied.

Rebekah hugged Elijah, "Brother, you look like the Count himself now. You all have done very well for yourselves here. Where is the true lord?"

Klaus broke away from Finn's diatribe about their state of affairs to add, "The new Count is getting his backside whipped by the tutor Elijah hired. Kol is also there learning latin and sums, or at least learning some discipline."

"Were you listening, Niklaus? I thought you were going to patrol the grounds this morning. Our little brother does not need a nursemaid," Elijah scolded lightly.

"I know. That aside, Finn, Rebekah, I am going to get you some new quarters. Please come along. We are glad to have you," Klaus intoned with relief.

Elijah pulled back Klaus, "Please make sure Rebekah does not harm anyone. We must teach her the new ways we have learned. Finn said he is quite vexed with her. She has not been discreet. Our little sister tried to run away with a lover. He wants me to have a talk with her."

"She what?" Klaus hissed. "Rebekah left that out. I am going to wallop her myself. How dare she try to leave us? Does always and forever mean nothing to her?"

"Niklaus, do not be hurt? She is not experiences in ways of the heart. You know Father never let a boy come within a league of her. The other village girls were married at her age," Elijah reasoned.

"If you plan to reprimand Kol for his folly today, then leave our little sister to me. I will see that she never tries to abscond from her beloved family for love again. We need her here with us," Klaus said firmly.

"Do what you will. Hurry, they await you," Elijah said tiredly. "You know, she is a grown woman."

"Not to me. She will always be 16 and need looking after. Just like Kol is always a boy to you," Klaus corrected as he turned to usher his tired siblings to their new quarters.

Elijah returned to his work with the steward. He was busy today, but Kol needed his attention. He would let Niklaus deal with Rebekah.

Rebekah's Chamber

"I will have the staff clear out the stewards musty old rags and this old trunk," Klaus said coughing.

"Aye, that would be good. Is there a weaving room? I can perhaps work on some new tapestries. Are there no woman here? These look so old," Rebekah frowned looking around the room.

"The daughter of the count has been banished from court. She is at a convent. Elijah thought that she would be safer there until the young Count and Lucien learn to control their hunger," Klaus said lightly.

"Hunger? You mean, they are like us now?" Rebekah said in surprised. Klaus admitted they were and explained the process.

"So I could make new vampires, too? But without the rings, they could burn in the sun?" Rebekah clarified.

"Yes, that is right. The witch made us a few extra daylight rings, but it was not an easy nor fast process," Klaus shared.

"So what did Elijah say? Finn told him that I fell in love. Are you angry with me?" Rebekah looked at Klaus with her big blue eyes.

"Sister, were you really going to leave us?" Klaus asked sitting on the trunk.

"Yes," Rebekah blurted out as she removed her outer cloak and threw it over a chair. "But Finn caught me. He shouted at my lover and he ran out in terror. I threw a terrible fit and then fed from some local folk. I killed a village in my anger, Niklaus. Finn and I then burned it to make it look like an accident."

Klaus patted the trunk beside him and waited for Rebekah to join him.

"So we are finding that we can influence humans and new vampires by looking deeply into their eyes and wanting what we tell them. So your lover mayhaps did not act out of his own volition, but Finn's. We need be very careful with this new power as it cannot be undone and it can have dangerous consequences," Klaus shared quietly.

"So he may not have wanted to leave me so?" Rebekah breathed. "Oh Nik, all those people I drained out of my rage. I do not even know the count such was my rage. That is why Finn brought us back here. He said he could not control my temper. He called me a spoilt brat in need of a hiding."

Klaus sighed and put his arm around Rebekah, "We have all murdered to survive in this new life. But to murder out of throwing a tantrum, that is folly, little sister. And I cannot let that go unpunished."

Klaus tightened his grip to drag Rebekah over his lap. She didn't fight him very hard and began to weep before he landed the first smack. Rebekah wore a white cap to gather her long blond tresses, it fell loose in their struggle. Whack! Klaus swatted Rebekah's squirming behind and felt the layers of two tunics.

"Two tunics, Sister?" Klaus growled.

Rebekah squealed as Klaus began to swat her harder. Thud! Thud! Thud! "This is ridiculous! It is the fashion now."

Klaus yanked up the two layers of tunics, one was lined with fur. He was relieved that Rebekah had on a white underskirt.

"Do not tear it, Brother. It is silk!" Rebekah begged.

"Fine, then, remove your tunics. You need a sound spanking and I know you will learn nothing of value with three layers of cushioning," Klaus informed her.

Rebekah agreed, "Let me up then. I shall cooperate with this, as you say, folly. Nik, I never thought I had to worry about a licking from you. Elijah, aye, but you? Never!"

"Little Sister, I know you and your heart. If we let your sins go unpunished, you will punish yourself. I will turn around as your fix yourself. Shall I call for the girl?" Klaus asked.

"Nay, I can do it myself," Rebekah said tightly. She took off her tunics, they were pinned at the shoulders with a jewel laden broach. Rebekah wore a silk undershirt and underdrawers underneath the silk skirt. She shrugged and took off the skirt to protect it from tearing.

"Finished?" Klaus asked.

"Aye," Rebekah said glumly she crossed her arms across her chest in frustration.

Klaus reached out and pulled her back over his lap so both her arms and lower body could rest on the chest.

"I am sorry that your heart was broken, but the response should not be to destroy a village," Klaus lectured as he began to spank Rebekah's upturned bottom with his hand smartly.

Rebekah wept, "I know. I am sorry for it. It w-will n-not happy again."

Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Klaus continued to spank Rebekah for the next few moments slowly and not practically hard. Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!

Klaus rested his hand on the behind in front of him. He felt some of the heat radiating from it. The door opened. It was Elijah.

"Finn told me the rest of the story. Niklaus, I think it is my turn. You do not seem to applying your palm very hard to the seat of the matter," Elijah observed.

Klaus realized that he had been patting Rebekah's behind for the last few minutes, not really getting through to her. Klaus looked at Elijah in awe, "How did you know?"

"Oh Niklaus, I knew you could not smack our little sister as firmly as required. Now, go see to the estate before I put your across my lap for a dose of the strap," Elijah said solemnly.

Klaus picked up Rebekah and handed her to Elijah, "I am sorry I failed you, Sister."

Rebekah said, "It is not your fault, Nik. Go, we shall speak later."

Elijah took Klaus' place on the chest and helped Rebekah to go back over.

"Elijah, I am not sure I can live anymore. Every time I shut my eyes, I see what my rage has wrought. The carnage...Make it go away," Rebekah begged.

Elijah drew Rebekah in closer with his left arm and smacked her behind hard. He exhaled and decided to take down her silk drawers.

"No! Elijah, they are thin!" Rebekah screeched.

"Hush, I bathed you as a baby and you did not wear clothes in the summer until you were five or six. I have seen your bottom a few times before," Elijah reminded her. "My only interest is in turning it as red as a spring cherry, young lady."

Elijah focused on spanking every area of Rebekah's behind. She was soon howling and thrashing around. He continued until she was hoarse from sobbing, his hand was numb, and her bottom was a dull red. Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Elijah spanked her hard for several minutes and then whacked her thighs a little to make sure she understood his displeasure with her behavior.

"'Lijah, I am sorry. P-Please," Rebekah wailed.

"All forgiven, my dear. You cannot change the past, but go forward and be better. We can live now without killing," Elijah revealed. "We will show you how."

He replaced her silk drawers despite her discomfit at the sting and then drew Rebekah into his lap to cradle her. Her hands crept back to rub at her hot behind that felt achy and swollen to her. Elijah's spanking was a hundred times more vivid than the half-hearted pat Niklaus gave her, yet Rebekah now felt cleansed. Sore, but somewhat better inside.

"You will never leave us, Sister. Let us protect you, be there for you, and stop you from deeds such as this," Elijah soothed. "We love you and need you." He rocked her and held her as she sobbed on his shoulder. Elijah bite into his wrist and fed her some from there to heal her a little. It was only after Rebekah slept that he put her in her bed and tucked her in.

Elijah rose and recalled that Kol was to visit him after his lessons. Compared to what Rebekah had done, Elijah felt like Kol's lateness was not worthy of anything aside from a brief reprimand. Yet Elijah has insinuated that he would punish him and Elijah was a man of honor.

Elijah went to see to his other errant sibling as he massaged his right hand.
