The Tale of the Lost Butterfly

Chapter 1: Star Comes to Earth

BEEP! BEEP! BE-

Serena groaned loudly and slammed her alarm clock off before going off her bed to stretch her arms a bit.

"It's 7:30 and another school day."Serena cheered with a bored look. "Yippee."

The orange haired girl placed on a white shirt with a rainbow design and a short sleeve light blue jacket, a pink layered skirt, cream stockings and pink sneakers.

After getting dressed, Serena headed downstairs and sat down in the dining room to have breakfast.

Addison was pouring whipped cream in her pancakes while Valen was drinking a cup of coffee and reading the morning's newspaper.

The young red haired girl wore a light pink dress with a yellow belt around her waist, white tights and yellow flats. There was a yellow bow at the back of her head.

Charlotte brought a breakfast tray to where Serena sat which consisted steamed rice, miso soup, tamagoyaki and grilled fish.

Serena picked up her chopsticks to eat her homemade breakfast from her stepmother.

"Mmm."Serena hummed as she ate her bowl of rice. "Once again your cooking is delicious, mum."

"Yeah."Addison murmured as she munched on her pancakes. "It's the best ever."

"Thank you, girls."Charlotte giggled with a warm smile. "It always warms my heart to hear you both say that."

Serena smiled at Valen.

"Hey, dad?"Serena asked.

"Yeah?"Valen said.

"I was wondering if tonight I can go to the movies with my friends to see the new movie."Serena admitted.

"Is it the one about a salvage crew to try and stop a crazed general in attempting to train man eating aliens for use in battle?"Valen guessed.

"That's the one."Serena agreed and went over to Valen. "So...can I go?"

"No, Serena."Valen replied. "You can't go."

"Ugh!"Serena groaned in annoyance. "Why not?"

"Because the movie is late and it's not even the holidays yet."Valen reminded.

"But Jackie and Leah are going."Serena argued. "That's not fair."

"You can go the movies once the holiday come, dear."Valen declared. "Don't you have exams coming up?"

"Fine."Serena responded with a small frown.

Afterward finishing breakfast, Valen drove in a blue car to take Serena and Addison to school.

"I want to buy new fairy tale books."Addison admitted.

"I thought you liked the stories we had in our library, Addison."Serena said.

"I did until I realised most of them are always about a princess in distress and how a guy would save her before ending up with the glory!"Addison complained. "I am sick of them!"

Valen chuckled lightly at Addison's respond.

"Then I'll make sure to buy-"Valen started.

Valen suddenly freaked out a bit and stopped the car.

Serena and Addison followed their father's gaze and saw a manticore-drawn carriage standing outside Echo Creek Academy.

"Dad, are you okay?"Serena asked.

"Y-Yeah, I am fine."Valen assured with an anxious smile. "Just going to park another way round."

Valen moved his car further away from the carriage until it was no longer in sight.

Serena picked up her purple backpack and got out of the car.

"Bye, Rena."Addison remarked with a wave. "See you guys after school."

"And don't come home a minute late."Valen added.

"Love you both."Serena murmured.

Serena simply waved at her loved ones before the car drove off.

Inside Echo Creek Academy…

Serena met up with Jackie and Leah in the hallway.

Jackie was a girl with wavy, shoulder-length platinum blond hair with an aqua streak on the left side, tan skin, mint green eyes and freckles. She wore a green and white raglan shirt, an orange seashell necklace, cyan jean shorts, green white knee socks and blue white sneakers.

Leah was a fair-skinned girl with brown hair tied in two ponytails with pink scrunchies and green eyes. She wore a pink short-sleeved shirt with two buttons at the stomach area, white rings around the end of the sleeves and a white collar, a violet skirt, magenta socks and black flats. She also had a pair of pink and purple bracelets on her right wrist.

"Wow, Serena."Leah complemented. "I can't believe your dad is not letting you go to the movies."

"Did you tell your dad that you were going to be with us?"Jackie asked.

"I did and he still said no."Serena scoffed with a sad frown. "I know he wants to protect me but sometimes it's a little too much."

Serena's bored expression changed into a panicking one when she caught sight of Kevin heading their way with a group of friends following him.

Kevin Maxwell was a fourteen year old boy with short spiky hair that had roots being light-grey and the base a darker shade of grey. His eyes were pure hazel and his skin was pale. He wore a light blue sweater with lighter blue diamonds on it, a white dress shirt, dark dress pants and black dress shoes.

Serena hid behind Jackie and Leah as Kevin walked passed them with his friends.

"Hey, Jackie."Kevin greeted. "Hi, Leah."

"Hi, Kevin."Jackie and Leah said in unison.

When Kevin and his friends were out of sight, Serena slowly brought her head up.

"Is he gone?"Serena asked with a nervous look.

"Yes, Serena."Leah giggled. "You can come out now."

Serena went out of her hiding place as Jackie spoke to her.

"Rena, you really need to pull yourself together and talk to him."Jackie insisted.

"Ugh!"Serena groaned in frustration. "I try! But everything time I want to talk to Kevin, I just end up always getting hypnotised by those gorgeous pure hazel eyes of his and then go hide like a frightened little duck!"

RING!

"And that's the sound of class starting."Leah declared with a frown.

Jackie, Serena and Leah headed to their maths class with some of the other students.

The orange haired girl went to sit in her seat which was the one next to Marco Diaz.

Marco was a Latino-American teenage boy with tan skin, dark brown hair, brown eyes and a mole on his right cheek. He wore a light gray shirt, a red hoodie, dark gray skinny jeans and olive white sneakers.

A couple of minutes later, the P.A System went on and the principal's voice rang out.

"Marco Diaz and Serena Wilson to the Principal's Office!"Principal Skeeves' voice called out. "Marco Diaz and Serena Wilson to the Principal's Office!"

Serena stopped writing on her piece of paper after hearing her name being called out.

"The principal's office?"Serena said in disbelief.

"Oooooh...looks like two people are in trouble."Marco remarked with a smug smile and stood up from his seat. "So, I guess everyone who voted me 'Safest Kid' must be feeling pretty embarrassed right about now."

Leah leaned forward to speak to Serena.

"What did you do?"Leah whispered.

"I don't know."Serena answered quietly. "I am going to find out."

Miss Skullnick was busy painting her toenails as Marco and Serena walked over to her.

"Do we both need a hall pass?"Marco asked. Skullnick

"Would you two just go already?!"Miss Skullnick snapped.

"Yes, ma'am!"Serena answered with a nervous smile.

Marco and Serena slowly shuffle out of the office to head outside to head to the Principal's Office.

The two students arrived and saw Principal Skeeves standing outside his office holding a treasure chest.

"Hey, Principal Skeeves."Serena greeted. "Are we in trouble?"

"Not all, my dear."Principal Skeeves remarked. "I want you and Marco to meet our new foreign exchange student, Star Butterfly."

Serena and Marco followed the Principal's gaze and saw a blonde haired girl checking the water fountain.

Star was a fair skinned girl with long blonde hair that goes down to her knees, light blue eyes and posh pink hearts on her cheeks. She wore a sea green short dress with a light pink octopus on the front, a white collar and white lace on the sleeves and the bottom of the skirt, magenta and orange striped leggings, purple boots with a rhino design and a small star bag with a face.

Star pressed the button on the water fountain and when a spout of water appeared, she backed away in fear and growled at it.

Serena raised an eyebrow at the blonde haired girl's weird behaviour while Marco appeared to be confused.

"Huh?"Marco said in confusion.

"I need a responsible, never-take-chances type and a well mannered young lady to keep an eye on her."Principal Skeeves admitted. "And who are better than you, the Safe Kid and Miss Goody Two Shoes?"

"With all due respect, Principal Skeeves."Serena said with a frown. "I am not the school's 'Miss Goody Two Shoes'. I am just a polite girl who doesn't like breaking rules."

"Yeah!"Marco agreed. "And I am completely wrong for this! I'm a misunderstood bad boy!"

"You're adorable!"Principal Skeeves complemented and pinched Marco's cheek before walking off. "Now I'm off to the ice cream shop! Daddy's getting all 52 flavours!"

Both Marco and Serena frowned while looking at Star, who was trying to eat the water fountain.

Then Marco and Serena walked around the school while Star followed them while skipping.

They passed by several students in the background.

"Thanks for showing me around, Safe Kid and Miss Goody Two Shoes."Star stated with a bright smile.

Serena scowled at the nickname that was given to her by her school enemies.

"Look Star, don't call me that."Serena retorted. "If you want to call me something. Just call me by my real name or nickname 'Rena'."

"Rena."Star repeated slowly and grinned. "Okay! I'll call you, Rena!"

"Thanks."Serena said simply. "This is your first time being on Earth, isn't it?"

"Yeah."Star agreed with a sigh and became excited. "I'm gonna miss home, but this world seems incredible!"

"Eh, it's okay."Serena responded with a shrug. "Depending on what your definition of incredible is."

Marco looked at Star.

"Look, whatever you heard about me isn't true."Marco stated. I don't know where people get the idea I'm so safe! Oh, watch your step. Loose tile. It's ridiculous! Careful."

Marco closed the open of a locker to prevent Star and Serena from being hit.

"You wear a helmet in the gym shower one time, and you're labeled for life! Broken glass."Marco warned before he and the girls stopped walking. "Frankly, I like taking risks and would welcome a little danger in my life."

Star used her magic wand to turn a butterfly into a screeching monster, horrifying Marco and Serena.

The creature picked up a nearby student and flies away as the student screamed in terror.

"That was weird."Serena commented.

"What the heck was that?!"Marco demanded.

"Oops. Heh."Star said with a nervous smile. "I thought you wanted a little danger."

Marco looked at Star suspiciously.

"Who are you?"Marco questioned.

"I'm a magical princess from another dimension!"Star declared.

Star makes a rainbow with her wand and several cute creatures appear around her.

The rainbow suddenly bursted into flames causing the cute creatures to run away.

Marco looked stunned while Serena's jaw hung open in disbelief.

"Well, that brings us to the end of our tour."Marco declared. "I'm going home now."

"Bye, new friend! See you tomorrow!"Star called out while waving. "Bye! Bye, new friend! See you later!"

Marco smiled at Star and then he lifts his hood over his head and runs away while the fire spreads to the nearby building.

Serena overcomes her shock and looked at Star with a hint of curiosity.

"How did you do that?"Serena asked.

"This is a family heirloom given to me on my fourteenth birthday."Star explained.

"Cool."Serena chuckled with a smirk. "Do you have a place to live?"

"I thought I was gonna stay with that Diaz boy. Or maybe I'll meet his family and surprise him!"Star insisted with a grin. "Do you know the way to his castle?"

"On Earth, the people here live in simple homes or manors, if your step-mother is rich like mine."Serena explained. "But I'll show you where he lives."

"Aw, thank you!"Star thanked.

Star hugged Serena, who suddenly had an unfazed look on her face since she didn't like being hugged that much.

Afterwards…

Marco arrived back at his home and made his way inside.

Rafael and Angie Diaz were heard laughing as Marco entered the house, only to become completely shocked.

Sitting in the sofa with his parents were Serena and Star, who were talking to them.

"Oh, Marco!"Angie remarked. "Come meet the new foreign exchange student who's gonna be living with us!"

"You can thank me later, Marco."Serena assured with a smirk.

"Wha?"Marco said in shock. "W-wha?"

"What?!"Star gasped as she went off the sofa to hold Marco's arm. "I had no idea these were your parents! I just assumed everyone on Earth had the last name 'Diaz'!"

"Won't it be nice to have Star's upbeat, lively energy around the house?"Angie asked.

"We could've gotten that from a litter of puppies."Marco declared.

Star gasped in excitement as her eyes became a bit big.

"I...love...puppies!"Star squealed.

Star used her wand to produce a litter of eight cute puppies.

"Awww..."Rafael and Angie cooed.

"Cuties."Serena giggled.

The puppies suddenly starred shooting lasers from their eyes, to everyone's surprise.

Their lasers knock over a lamp and shoot a hole through Marco's face in a Diaz family photo.

Marco looked at Star angrily while Serena smirked a bit at the small chaos.

"Hehehe..."Star laughed lightly with a nervous smile.

Rafael chuckled and picked up a puppy.

"Well, they are really cute."Rafael stated and the puppy shoots a laser at Mr. Diaz's right eye. "Ay! My eye! Ha! Ha!"

"Marco, why don't you show Star her new room?"Angie insisted.

"Yay!"Star cheered happily.

Star runs upstairs as Serena helped Marco drag her luggage up the stairs with the yipping puppies follow.

"Thanks for the help."Marco thanked.

"Anytime, Diaz."Serena assured.

Serena bent down to pat one of the laser puppies on the head, who licked her face a bit.

"Despite their laser eyes, these puppies are really cute."Serena chuckled.

Star looked around her new room while biting the head of her wand.

"Okay...I can work with this."Star stated and helped her wand. "Sparkle Glitter Bomb Expand!"

The blonde haired princess used her wand to turn the simple room into a large castle loft.

Marco and Serena stared at the room in amazement as Star started bouncing on her bed.

"That's better!"Star complemented.

"Whoa..."Marco said in awe.

"You are full of surprises."Serena remarked. "You now that, Star?"

"I know!"Star answered. "Though many back home call me irresponsible when not doing that!"

"I wish I had a room like this."Marco admitted.

Star gasped and stopped bouncing on the bed.

"You do?!"Star asked.

Star got an idea and runs to Marco's bedroom to give it a new look.

"Mystic Room Suck Transform!"Star chanted.

Star created a black hole in the middle of the floor, sucking up everything in the room.

Serena quickly shuts the door before she, Star and Marco get sucked in.

"Suck"?! Suck?!"Marco shouted. "Why was the word 'suck' in that spell?!"

"I don't know!"Star protested. "It just came out that way!"

Marco groaned and slammed his face on the door.

"I'm sorry, Marco."Star apologised. "Uh...how about a little sunshine to brighten your day?"

Star created a small sun over Marco's head which immediately turned into a raincloud and drenched him in water.

"Aw..."Star whined.

"Climate change."Serena muttered.

"I can't take this anymore!"Marco complained and glared at Star. "If you're moving in, I am moving out!"

Marco moves toward the open window and accidentally slipped outside.

Star, Serena and the laser puppies went to the window to see if Marco was alight.

"Are you okay?"Star asked.

Marco lied in a bed of cacti causing Serena to wince at the sight.

"Luckily, the cactuses broke my fall."Marco retorted.

"Do you need any help?"Star asked/

"Ow! I'm fine!"Marco shouted and angrily walked off. "Just leave me alone!"

Serena frowned at Star.

"Since you recently got your family's wand, you really don't know how to use it's power, right?"Serena assumed.

"Nope."Star answered in shame.

"I am sure you'll be able to master it if you practice."Serena insisted, putting a comforting hand on Star's shoulder. "Practice makes perfect."

Star smiled at Serena's words.

Later that Night…

Serena and Star found Marco eating a chocolate bar and drinking a soda as he stood outside of the Stop & Slurp food store.

"They won't let me back inside because I'm soooooggyyyyy!"Marco shouted crazily.

"I really messed things up."Star said sadly.

"Don't worry about it."Serena assured with a smirk. "He usually acts like this when my little sister is around."

A mother and her son come out of the store.

"Did you bring me my refill?!"Marco cried out.

The mother and son quickly walk away.

"Don't make eye contact."the mother instructed.

Marco noisily chews on a bar of chocolate.

"You come to my house, you bring toilet paper!"Marco insisted.

Marco freaked out when he saw Star and Serena near him.

"Wa-ha! Whoa!"Marco panicked. "What are you doing here?"

"Chill, Diaz."Serena scoffed. "First hear her out."

Star used her wand to make the raincloud disappear into small butterflies.

"I didn't get a choice about coming here to Earth and you didn't get a choice about having to deal with me. "Star admitted as Marco's angry expression softened. "I'll...I'll find another family to live with. "

Marco's expression turned from regretful to nervous as he sees something behind Star.

"S-S-Star?"Marco stuttered.

Star turned around, only to Ludo and his minions are seen behind them.

"Star Butterfly!"Ludo cackled evilly. "At last, I've found you!"

"Whose the little birdo weirdo?"Serena questioned.

"Ludo!"Star said with a glare. "How did you know I was here? "

Ludo chuckled. "Wouldn't you like to know?"

"Yes."Star That's why I asked.

"Well, Buff Frog—hey! I don't have to tell you anything!"Ludo snapped and glanced at his monsters. "Get her!"

Ludo's minions roared as Star and Serena assumed their attack stances when Marco jumped in front of them.

"Hi-yaaa!"Marco shouted.

Marco dropped a three-eyed minion with a punch to the gut and an axe kick to the head.

Serena smirked. "Nice move."

"You can fight?!"Star said in amazement.

"It's called...karate!"Marco responded.

Marco dropped Bearicorn with a cross chop.

Star fights Beard Deer before she kicked him in the stomach and the hammer he held bonked him on the head.

Serena punched a warthog monster on the stomach before kicking in the jaw breaking his teeth.

Ludo glared and grabbed Buff Frog by the shirt.

"You said she was unguarded!"Ludo retorted.

Serena fought against Three-eyed Potato Baby.

Suddenly the pink gem on Serena's ring started glowing before it blasted out a swarm of biting pink bats that attacked Three-eyed Potato Baby.

"And you didn't tell me one had magic!"Ludo added.

Buff Frog gives his master an confused grunt as Serena looked at her mother's ring in pure shock.

"Mum's ring just-"Serena started in awe.

Star blasted Beer Dear with water before smiling at Serena.

"Rena, you got magic too?!"Star gasped.

"I didn't know that."Serena whispered.

"Focus on the monsters first, Serena!"Marco reminded.

Marco chopped between the heads of the minion with two heads before punching the minion's two heads continuously.

Star jumped behind a giraffe-headed minion.

"Rainbow Fist Punch!"Star chanted.

Star produced a rainbow-colored fist to knock the giraffe minion through a car window.

While fighting the first three-eyed minion, Marco opened the car's driver side door and the giraffe minion's neck stretched to knock the three-eyed minion out.

Star knocked the warthog monster over with her wand and it whinnied in pain like a horse.

Marco appeared next to the two girls and they smile at each other as Marco karate-chopped the two-headed minion.

"Ruby Hammer!"Serena chanted with a smirk.

Serena used her ring to create a holo-graphic red hammer that whacked Buff Frog on the face and he crashed against a streetlight.

"You're embarrassing me!"Ludo shouted angirly. "Get up!"

Buff Frog gets up and breaks the streetlight off its base, using it as a club.

"Jellybean Hallucination Mist!"Star chanted.

Star blasted Buff Frog with magic and he hallucinated raining jellybeans and faces on his hands.

"Whoa."Buff Frog mumured. "What is happening? "

Three-eyed Potato Baby and Big Chicken punch Star and Marco to the ground.

"Get away from my friends!"Serena scowled.

Serena knocked the two monsters away with a jump kick and water whip.

"Mega Narwhal Blast!"Star chanted.

Star knocked out all of Ludo's minions with an army of narwhals.

Ludo's minions groaned in pain as one of the narwhals slithers away.

A displeased look appeared on Ludo's face.

"You want some of this, Ludo?"Star asked with a triumphant smile.

"No."Ludo replied in defeat.

Ludo takes out his own dimensional scissors.

"You see, you morons?!"Ludo growled, glaring at his army. "This is what happens when you don't work out!"

Ludo opened a dimensional portal for him and his monsters to go in.

"Your muscles are like pudding!"Ludo retorted. "Come on, back in the portal! Back in the portal!"

Ludo's minions, groaning and covered in bruises, shuffle through the portal.

"You even retreat like losers!"Ludo added.

"I'm freaking out!"Buff Frog panicked while still hallucinating.

Ludo enters the portal last while glaring at the Mewni Princess.

"I'll get you, Star Butterf-"Ludo gagged.

The portal closed around Ludo's neck which made him choke and pull his head in at the last second, leaving behind his skull crown.

"That was amazing! I was amazing!"Marco remarked in excitement before smiling at Star and Serena. "You two were amazing!"

"We really made a good team too."Serena complemented.

"Yeah. I guess we did."Star agreed before she sadly started walking away. "Well...I should probably go pack my bags."

Marco goes to stop Star from walking away.

"Wait! I don't want you to go."Marco admitted. "I want you to stay with us."

Star turned around to look at her new friends with a cheered up look.

"Really?!"Star said with a grateful expression. "Hugs!"

Star hugged both Marco and Serena, making them both smile.

They starting walking home as Marco does some karate moves and Serena checked her ring.

"You okay, Rena?"Star asked.

Serena stopped fiddling with her mother's ring to respond to the blonde haired princess.

"Yeah."Serena responded with a small frown. "I am just going to have to talk to my dad once I come back home."

"Are there gonna be monsters attacking us all the time?"Marco questioned.

"Yeah, probably."Star remarked.

"All right! Sounds so dangerous!"Marco sneered before he stopped Star and Serena to cross the street. "Whoa! Let's cross at the light."

"Okay, wild man."Star joked.

Serena chuckled in amusement as Star shoots a fish-shaped magic stream from her wand which flew up and swirls around the moon.

Serena has discovered her ring is a magical one, what will happen next?
