Chapter 3: Match Maker
At the Wilson Manor…
Serena was practicing a spell from the Book of Sorcery while Jules munched on a few blue coloured sugar cookies with small white star shapes on them.
"Protection Barrier."Serena chanted.
Serena used her ring to try and create a shield around her, but only ended up making a tiny one that shielded only her face.
"Another tiny one."Serena retorted. "This is the third time."
Jules took a sip from her cup of Earl Grey tea before responding to Serena.
"You need to concentrate in order to do the spell right, Serena."Jules instructed. "Being frustrated gets you no where in life."
"Gotta be calm and not raise my voice."Serena commented lightly. "I get it. It's not very princess-like to get angry."
"Serena! Have you done packing?"Valen's voice called out. "You got school today!"
"I'm coming, dad!"Serena answered before picking up her backpack and looked at Jules. "I gotta go! See you later, Jules!"
Serena headed out of her room and closed the door.
Jules simply sighed as she took another sip of her small cup of tea.
"Teenagers these days."Jules murmured with a small frown.
At Echo Creek Academy…
Star, Marco and Serena walked together in the hallway.
"I like red, I like hoodies."Marco exclaimed. "So I bought a dozen of them."
"Hey, it's that magic girl!"Justin's voice remarked.
A large group of students and the school janitor pass by Star, Serena and Marco while saying hello to the Mewni princess.
"Hi, new friends! Hi!"Star greeted before looking at Marco and Serena. "Everyone's so cool here, Marco and Rena. It makes me wish my parents had tossed me out of the castle years ago."
"Oh, you haven't even met the coolest guys."Marco remarked before gesturing to Alfonzo and Ferguson standing next to some lockers. "Alfonzo and Ferguson."
"Do little Quick, here she comes!"Alfonzo stated.
Ferguson lifted up his shirt to reveal a face drawn on his stomach as a girl walked past with a repulsed look on her face.
"Hey, hey. Are those books?"Ferguson asked as he moved his stomach to make it look like it's talking. "Where are you going with those books? Do you like to read—"
The girl slapped Ferguson's face before slapping his stomach's face and walked away.
Serena smirked at Marco.
"You were saying?"Serena asked.
"They're usually cooler."Marco replied.
"I need to fix Ferguson up."Star suggested as she held her wand up.
"No."Serena and Marco answered in unison.
Star, Serena and Marco hear rolling wheels and look left.
Jackie does a kick flip on her skateboard and rolls through the halls.
Marco gasped as he had hearts in his eyes.
"Jackie Lynn Thomas!"Marco gasped.
Jackie skated past Star, Serena and Marco in the hallway.
"Hey, Serena!"Jackie greeted as she skated past. "Hey, Star Butterfly!"
"Hey, Jackie."Serena remarked.
"Hi, Jackie!"Star answered and notice Marco still looking at Jackie with a lovestruck expression. "I need to fix you up."
"What?!"Marco said in shock.
"Oh, come on."Star commented as she moved her wand between her hands. "I'm almost as good at matchmaking as I am with magic."
Star accidentally blasted Marco's face with magic, leaving him with a burnt face and frizzy hair with a bald spot while one strand of hair was on fire.
Serena frowned. "Don't do that again."
In Miss Skullnick's Classroom…
As everyone in class was either talking or doing their own thing, Star, Marco and Serena were sitting with each other.
Star draws on her desk before looking at her two companions.
Star Look-look-look-look-look! It's my name! It's my name! With a star inside a butterfly and two hearts. And a spider.
Miss Skullnick slammed a test paper on Star's desk and looked monstrously annoyed.
The Maths teacher then hands out test papers to the rest of the class.
"As you can see, class, most of you have done a pathetic job."Miss Skullnick stated.
Serena picked up her test paper and sighed in relief to see she got an 'A+' with a smiley face on it.
"What grade did you get, Marco?"Serena asked.
"I got an A too."Marco responded.
Serena glanced at Star.
"Did you get a good grade too, Star?"Serena questioned.
"Yep, Rena!"Star remarked and held up her paper that showed an 'F' on it. "I got an 'F' for fantastic!"
Serena cringed a bit seeing an 'F' on Star's test paper.
"That's an 'F' for fail."Marco corrected.
"Huh?"Star said in surprise.
"What?"Marco asked. "You don't have tests on Mewni?"
"Uhh…not really."Star answered with a sheepish smile. "Only the ones that want to make girls into creepy obedient princesses."
"That's alright, Star."Serena assured kindly. "I can help you improve your maths skills. I've got tons of mathematic books back at home."
"Thanks, Rena."Star thanked as she lowered her paper down. "What do the 'A's on your papers stand for?"
"They're passable grades."Serena exclaimed.
"Also the best grade you can get with a smiley face."Marco added proudly while showing the blonde haired girl his test paper that had an A+ with a smiley face at the top.
"Ooh!"Star cooed. "I want the best one too!"
Star got up from her seat to talk to Miss Skullnick, alarming Marco and Serena.
"Wait, don't!"Marco protested.
"Star!"Serena hissed quietly.
Star ignored her two friends as she walked up to Miss Skullnick, who was writing on the board with a chalkboard.
"Oh, Miss Skullnick!"Star said in a sing song tone.
Miss Skullnick crushed the chalk in her hand and turns to Star with a growl.
"Hey, Skullzy!"Star greeted. "Can you please do me a teeny favour and turn my 'F' into an 'A'?"
"You're whining about a lousy grade?"Miss Skullnick scowled. "I finally got a guy with a boat and he left me at the dock!"
"The dock?"Star murmured.
"The dock isn't the important part!"Miss Skullnick shouted dramatically.
Star nibbled on her wand in thought.
"I guess I'm doomed to dry land."Miss Skullnick said sadly.
"I got it!"Star replied in realisation. "I'll cast a spell to get you the perfect guy, and you can give me the perfect grade."
"What?!"Miss Skullnick said in shock.
"Man Magnet..."Star started.
"Wait!"Miss Skullnick protested.
"...Love Storm!"Star finished.
Star transformed Miss Skullnick into a hideous green-skinned troll causing everyone to gasp at the sight.
Marco and Serena rushed over to the blonde haired girl.
"Star, what did you do?!"Marco demanded.
"I-I think I turned her into a troll."Star replied.
"You think?!"Serena snapped.
"Star Butterfly rules!"Justin shouted excitedly.
The other students started cheering before Miss Skullnick screamed in horror at her new appearance.
"I'm hideous!"Miss Skullnick cried out.
"Star, do something!"Serena demanded.
"Quick, change her back!"Marco insisted.
"Oh, okay, yeah, right!"Star laughed nervously. "Okay, yeah...Lightning Change Back!"
Star, Marco, Serena and Miss Skullnick vanish from the room causing the students to gasp.
In the Diaz Household…
Star, Marco, Serena and Miss Skullnick magically reappear in Star's bedroom.
Then Miss Skullnick started screaming while running up and down the room.
"Where are we?"Star said in confusion.
"You just zapped us back to the house!"Marco admitted.
"Ohhhh. I wish I knew how I did that."Star complemented with a smile. "It could really come in handy if I don't feel like using my legs."
Serena face palmed in frustration as Miss Skullnick continued screaming.
Marco and Serena then tied Miss Skullnick to a chair as her uncontrollable sobbing made a large puddle on the floor.
"Please don't cry, Miss Skullnick."Star begged.
Marco looked at Serena.
"Hey Serena, can't you at least try to use her ring to change Miss Skullnick back?"Marco suggested.
"Sorry, Marco. I am still new to magic, so I won't take any chances."Serena declared and looked at Star. "Star, you're gonna need to call your mum for this problem."
"What?!"Star said in shock.
"Serena is right. We can't keep stalling."Marco agreed. "If we call your mum, she'll probably know how to reverse the spell."
A frightened look appeared on Star's face as she backed away a bit.
"No! I can't ask for help!"Star panicked. "If my parents find out about this, they're gonna send me to…St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses! It's a terrible, horrible place, and no one who goes there ever comes out the same!"
Star started screaming and stopped after a few seconds.
"Is it all out yet?"Marco asked.
"Almost."Star answered and screamed once more before stopping. "Okay, I'm done."
"Star, you just need to get the information you need, without letting her know all of the details."Serena exclaimed. "And what she doesn't know won't kill her."
"Like dancing around the truth."Marco stated.
"I'm a great dancer!"Star remarked.
Star dances as she goes up to a curtain and pulled the curtain back to reveal her interdimensional mirror.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, Call Mum."Star ordered.
"Calling Tom."the Mirror declared.
"Wait!"Star protested in shock. "Wait! Wait!"
Star's ex-boyfriend, Tom appeared on the mirror's surface.
Tom smiled. "Star!"
"No."Star replied with a frown. "No."
"W-Wait!"Tom protested. "You're here, I'm here-"
"I said 'Call Mum', not Tom."Star corrected:
"No! Star!"Tom protested and his voice changed into a demonic voice. "DON'T HANG UP!"
Star pressed a button on the mirror and Tom's image vanished.
"I really gotta delete him off my mirror."Star retorted.
Queen Moon Butterfly appeared on the mirror's surface.
"Oh, Star, darling, what a pleasant surprise."Queen Moon said with a smile.
"So, mum...let's just say that someone accidentally turned someone into a troll with the wand."Star said with a nervous smile. "Not that I would do that, no, because that would be completely irresponsible—"
Suddenly a loud crash was heard as Marco and Serena quickly dashed past Star.
"Star, what is going on?!"Queen Moon demanded.
"Gotta go, bye!"Star answered and quickly closed the curtains. "What happened?!"
Marco and Serena stood next to a large hole in the wall.
"She jumped out the window!"Marco shouted.
Miss Skullnick, still tied to a chair, ran across the house yard.
"Rainbow Slide!"Serena chanted.
Serena used her ring to made a rainbow-like slide for her, Star and Marco to slide down before they all tackled Miss Skullnick to the ground.
"Wow, good job, Rena."Star remarked.
Serena smiled. "Thanks."
"Wow, good job, Rena."A voice mocked.
Star, Marco and Serena notice Ludo and his army of monsters not far from where they stood.
"Ludo!"Star retorted. "What are you doing here?"
"Catching you at your most distracted!"Ludo answered.
"What?"Star scoffed. "I have been way more distracted than this."
"I don't know."Ludo said. "You seem...pretty distracted."
"Nah, not really."Star disagreed.
"Oh, well..."Ludo started and pointed at something. "What's that over there?!"
"What?!"Star asked while looking at the other side. "Where?!"
"Get her!"Ludo ordered.
Ludo's army roared causing Marco, Star and Serena to scream while running away.
The monsters chase after the three teenagers, trampling over Miss Skullnick in the process.
Ludo climbed up his giraffe minion's neck and jumped onto the back of a flying bat creature.
As the monsters approach Star, Marco and Serena, the blonde haired girl jumped into the air.
"Dagger Crystal Heart Attack!"Star chanted.
Star fired a volley of hearts from her wand.
"Feel the love!"Star sneered.
The monsters fly backward with hearts stuck in their bodies.
Marco faced down Bearicorn, Big Chicken and Three-eyed Potato Baby.
"I'm obligated to warn you."Marco stated as he tied a white band around his head. "I'm a green belt. With a stripe.
Bearicorn, Big Chicken and Three-eyed Potato Baby fake being scared.
Marco picked up a rake and spun it around.
The Diaz Boy smacked Bearicorn and swept Three-eyed Potato Baby's legs and strikes his face with the rake end.
Big Chicken attacks Marco from behind and pecks at him continuously.
"Ow! Hey!"Marco shouted in pain. "Ow, ow! Owww!"
Marco kicked Big Chicken in the beak and knocked him over.
Buff Frog started throwing punches at Serena, who easily dodged them and bites his arm.
"Apple Snap Dragons!"Serena chanted.
Serena used her ring to attack a crocodile minion and Buff Frog with small dragons that had apple bodies to snap at their opponents.
As Star flew backward, she spun around and strikes a three-eyed minion with her wand, making a large bump on his head.
Emmitt puts Marco in a headlock and continuously punched his stomach.
"Rainbow Blast!"Star chanted.
Star blasted Emmitt with a rainbow beam.
As Miss Skullnick stands up, Emmitt flew into her, knocking them both down.
Miss Skullnick and Emmitt started staring at each other with lovingly expressions.
"Narwhal Blast! Narwhal Blast!"Star chanted before noticing Emmitt and Miss Skullnick. "Awww...Narwhal Blast... "
Star smile: at Emmitt and Miss Skullnick while blasting Beard Deer without looking.
Emmitt returned to the battle as Marco and Serena fought the giraffe minion and Big Chicken in the background while Miss Skullnick looked at him with a love struck look.
Marco and Serena continued fighting the giraffe minion, Buff Frog and Three-eyed Potato Baby.
Star walked over to Marco and Serena.
"Hey, Marco, Rena, you can handle this for a minute on your own, right?"Star asked.
"Oh, yeah."Marco answered. "No problem."
"We got your back."Serena assured.
"Cool, thanks!"Star thanked.
All of Ludo's monsters appeared behind Marco and Serena before they all pounced on them.
Miss Skullnick tries climbing over a fence as Star went over to her.
"Oh, Miss Skullnick!"Star said in a sing song tone.
"What?"Miss Skullnick scowled.
"See that monster over there?"Star asked, gesturing to Emmitt, who was lifting Marco up and tossing him. "He thinks you're cute."
"Really?"Miss Skullnick asked excitedly and climbed off the fence. "Ooh! What should I do?"
"Wait right here."Star instructed.
Serena kicked Big Chicken on the face as Emmitt stood over Marco and was about to draw a sword.
When Star came up to Emmitt, Marco crawled away in pain.
"Hey there, monster guy."Star greeted before gesturing to Miss Skullnick. "See that troll over there?"
Emmitt started babbling as he ran up to Miss Skullnick as Star watched.
Behind her, Ludo and his army chase Marco and Serena.
"Star!"Marco yelled.
"A little help, please!"Serena shouted.
"Get them!"Ludo ordered. "Get them!"
"Hey, guys!"Star called out and held her wand that started glowing. "I think you forgot something!"
The monsters stopped chasing Marco and Serena, when they remembered Star's wand.
"Huh?"the monsters said in unison.
"Get the wand!"Ludo ordered.
The monsters run up to Star as she did her next spell.
"Thermonuclear Butterfly Blast!"Star chanted.
Marco, Ludo, Serena and the monsters army all scream in terror on a seven-way split screen.
"Not again!"Ludo cried out in terror.
A loud explosion covered the yard in rainbow light and butterflies.
Serena quickly used her ring to create a pink bubble barrier around herself and Marco to prevent themselves from getting hit by the attack.
"Nailed it."Serena sneered.
Star looked surprised while being surrounded by unconscious monsters and small fires as Ludo falls out of a tree.
"Whoa-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho!"Star chuckled.
Ludo shook an unconscious Beard Deer, who was covered in bruises.
"Get up!"Ludo demanded angrily. "Get up!"
"Told you I wasn't distract—"Star started and notice how badly wounded Beer Deer looked. "Wait, did I just kill that guy?"
"No, he's not dead."Ludo retorted with a glare. "He's probably just bleeding internally and being a total baby about it!"
Ludo kicked Beard Deer in the head before opening a dimensional portal.
"Get up, you dipsticks!"Ludo snapped.
Ludo's monsters stand up, groaning in pain and covered in bruises and shuffled toward the portal.
Marco, Star and Serena looked back toward Emmitt and Miss Skullnick.
"So...now that I hooked you up, how about that A?"Star requested.
"Honey, please! I'd give you an A+, if I was still a teacher."Miss Skullnick remarked and lovingly held Emmitt's arm. "I'm setting sail with Captain Triceps here."
Emmitt excitedly continued babbling as he and Miss Skullnick walked away.
"What about my A?!"Star asked.
"Try studying."Miss Skullnick requested.
Star frowned deeply as Serena smirked and Marco imitates a sad trombone.
Back in Echo Creek Academy...
Star, Serena and Marco returned back to Miss Skullnick's class.
"So anyway, long story short, Skullnick ran off with this weird man-bull guy thing to another dimension and now she is gone forever."Star explained.
Alfonzo and the other students looked at Serena.
"It's this true, Serena?"Alfonzo asked.
Serena shrugged. "Pretty much."
"Star Butterfly rules!"Justin shouted.
The other students cheered as they crowd around Star and Serena while shoving Marco aside.
"Wow, Star, that is so rad, girl!"Jackie remarked.
"Thanks!"Star thanked. "But actually..."
Star pulled Marco into the middle of the crowd and in front of Jackie.
"It's Marco who deserves all the credit."Star admitted.
"Really?"Jackie asked with a smile. "That's awesome!"
Marco blushed and chuckled nervously as the students cheered at him.
Marco, Star and Serena smile at each other.
Suddenly a dimensional portal opened and Miss Skullnick falls through, smashing the desk.
The students gasped seeing their Maths teacher again.
"Miss Skullnick?"Serena said in surprise. "What happened to your date?"
"He dumped me. I think. I don't know."Miss Skullnick complained. "I couldn't understand a word he was saying!"
"Welcome back, Skullzers."Star greeted with a weak smile.
"Get ready for the worst pop quiz of your lives!"Miss Skullnick scowled.
The students groaned in annoyance and walked away while Jackie looked at Marco disapprovingly before walking away as well.
Serena bit her lip as Marco whimpered sadly.
Justin kicks Marco's desk away from his and Marco sits down.
"Sorry, Marco."Star apologised worriedly. "I didn't mean to embarrass you in front of Jackie."
"Are you kidding?!"Marco whispered with a smile. "That's the most she's ever talked to me!"
"So you're not upset?"Serena questioned.
"Nope."Marco assured confidently. "I'm good."
"Then that means I'm even better at matchmaking than I am with magic!"Star gasped in amazement.
Star accidentally blasts Marco's face with magic, giving his head butterfly wings and antennae.
One of his antennae was on fire as Star tried to blow the fire out.
"You do realise we'll still to need to work on your magic and studying, right?"Serena reminded with a smirk.
Star frowned. "I know."
