Chapter 6: Quest Buy
At the Diaz Household…
In the bathroom, Marco combed his hair while lightly humming.
"Perfect."Marco remarked.
Suddenly a hairdryer blew on him, making his hair messy.
Star was using her magic wand to brush and blow-dry her hair at the same time.
"Hey, you know the rules."Marco reminded. "Keep your stuff on your side of the counter."
Marco picked up his minivac and vacuums some items on Star's side of the bathroom counter including her wand charger.
Also Star's side of the bathroom counter was a cluttered mess.
"Is it that hard to just be a little organised?"Marco asked.
"I'm organised."Star remarked. "My mess is here, and...well, that's pretty much my system."
Suddenly Star's wand crackled and fizzled before powering down.
"Huh?"Star said in confusion.
With her wand powered down, the Princess of Mewni's hairdryer, shampoo bottle and hairbrush fell to the floor.
"What's wrong with this thing?"Star asked."Hmm...better check under the hood."
Star opened her wand's front compartment, revealing a very exhausted and starved-looking unicorn on a treadmill as music box music played off-key and winds down.
The Millhorse was gasping and wheezing in exhaustion.
"Oh, no."Star said nervously.
Star closed the wand and turned it around, revealing a half-empty power gauge.
"Have you seen my charger?"Star asked worriedly. "I know it's around here somewhere."
Star looks around the counter and under the sink for her missing charger.
"Where did you last see it?"Marco questioned.
"Ah!"Star panicked. "Where is that stupid thing?!"
"Star, calm down!"Marco insisted before quickly dodging a flail and a sword. "Star! This is why you gotta get organised."
Marco opened his cabinet and revealed well-organized and labeled shelves of bathroom items.
"See? With my system, nothing ever gets lost."Marco said proudly. "Nothing's ever out of place."
Star grabbed Marco by the shirt in fear before releasing him.
"This is serious!"Star stated and pointed to wand power gauge. "You have to recharge wands with magical energy. If it goes to skull, it'll be dead forever!"
The hearts on Star's cheeks change into skulls.
"Can't you just buy another charger?"Marco suggested.
Star gasped in realisation as the skulls on her cheeks change into light bulbs.
"Of course!"Star remarked. "They sell them at Quest Buy!"
"Quest Buy?"Marco asked.
"First let's go get, Rina!"Star muffled. "Let's go!"
With her wand in her mouth, Star opened a portal with her dimensional scissors and dragged Marco through it.
At the Wilson Manor…
Serena was reading a book on geometry while relaxing in a nice warm bath.
However, the orange haired girl dropped her book and shrieked in shock seeing Star and Marco coming in from a portal.
Marco turned his head to the other side and covered his face while a blush crept up on his face.
"What the heck are guys doing here?!"Serena demanded.
"Sorry to disturb you bath, Rena."Star apologised with an awkward smile. "But I'll tell you when you…you know…"
"Don't look."Serena replied with a glare.
Star turned around as well as Serena stood from the bathtub to get a towel and used her ring's magic to give her new clothes.
Serena now wore a pale blue frilly dress with layered skirt beneath a turquoise blouse with a yellow bow and heart design, white tube socks and light brown boots.
In Quest Buy…
Star, Marco and Serena exit the other side of the portal and land in a giant store.
"The reason you called me out because you need to buy a charger for your wand?"Serena said in disbelief.
"Yep."Star remarked happily. "Welcome to Quest Buy!"
Marco and Serena's eyes widen to see Quest Buy's large medieval theme maze-like layout and pans from left to right to show the store's different employees and shoppers.
"Attention, Quest Buy shoppers."Sloth Clerk announced over the P.A. System. "We have a red-ticket special. 25% off of all things that murder-"
The sloth clerk in the announcing booth was suddenly grabbed by a giant centipede monster.
"Ow!"Sloth Clerk said in pain.
"Whoa..."Marco murmured.
"25% off anything that kills?"Serena scoffed. "They really need to improve their security check."
A fish-like sample server holds a tray of two disgusting-looking vials in front of Marco and Serena's face.
"Sample?"the Sample Server asked. "Either take a sample or leave a sample. Up to you."
"Gross."Marco complemented.
Serena cringe a bit in disgust as Star's wand gauge dropped to two bars of power.
"We gotta hurry!"Star insisted. "You can talk to the creepy salesman later, Rena and Marco!"
Star, Marco and Serena walked around the store while checking out the shelves which showed swords and other middle ages-style objects everywhere.
"Gnome repellent? Extra-strength ghost heads?"Marco said in surprise. "How do you find anything in this place?"
"It only looks messy."Star replied. "Legend says that the founders of Quest Buy had an ancient cryptic system of symbols they used to organise the store. Some have gone mad trying to decipher it!"
Serena raised an eyebrow at her cousin's respond.
"So does this mean the staff only know what the symbols mean?"Serena suggested.
"Yeah, but they're sort of lazy."Star admitted.
"Not a surprise."Serena said with a shrug. "On Earth, sloths spend most of their lives hanging upside down in the trees of the tropical rainforests of South America and Central America."
"I finally got it!"A little goblin declared happily. "Housewares is that way!"
The little goblin laughed excitedly and runs into a wall, whimpered when he got a black eye.
"If there's a system here, I'm gonna use it to find the best route to the charger department."Marco remarked proudly.
"Same with me."Serena agreed with a small smirk. "I'm a very organised person."
"Lucky for you guys, I myself know my way around here pretty well myself, if I do say so myself."Star exclaimed. "I think I just said too many my selves."
Star, Marco and Serena ran down a hallway, only to rush into a room where a riddle sphinx was.
"Halt!"the Riddle Sphinx demanded in a distorted voice. "Those who wish to pass my lair, answer my riddles if you dare! I do not breathe..."
Serena was unfazed hearing the basics of riddles while Star checked Marco's phone.
"A leg!"Star answered.
"...but I run..."the Riddle Sphinx continued.
"A leg."Star repeated.
"...and jump..."the Riddle Sphinx added.
"She said it's a leg!"Serena scowled.
"...and—"Riddle Sphinx started and then spoke normally. "Wait. How could you possibly know that?"
"The internet."Star replied.
"Internet?"the Riddle Sphinx said in confusion.
"You should look it up."Star insisted. "Now come on, come on, open up!"
The Riddle Sphinx sighed and opened a door passage on her chest causing the young teenagers to run through.
"Thank you!"Star thanked.
The Riddle Sphinx glanced at a skeleton door.
"You ever hear of the Internet, skeleton door?"the Riddle Sphinx asked.
The Skeleton door didn't say anything.
Star, Marco and Serena arrived to their destination.
"Okay, should be right through here!"Star declared.
Star, Marco and Serena were back in the first aisle.
"Gnome repellent? Extra-strength ghost heads? We're right back where we started!"Marco retorted. "How is this even possible?"
"Are you sure you know your place around here, Star?"Serena questioned.
"Let's see."Star said, looking at every direction. "We made a right turn, then another right turn, then another right turn, then another right turn. Ugh! This makes no sense!"
Ludo's shopping cart bumped into Star from behind.
"Well, well, well."Ludo said with a smirk. "Looks like Quest Buy really does have everything a monster could want!"
Star glared angrily at seeing her arch-nemesis.
"Ludo?!"Star snapped.
Marco assumed a fighting pose while Serena activated her magic ring.
"Now hand over that wand or there's going to be a big cleanup on aisle..."Ludo started and glanced at Sloth Clerk. "Uh, what aisle is this?"
"That's not my department."Sloth Clerk answered and walked away.
"Rainbow Avalanche!"Star chanted.
Star's wand spurted out a trickle of rainbow coloured liquid.
"Uhhh, just give me a sec here."Star insisted while shaking her wand. "Uh... "Narwhal Nightmare!"
Instead of a swarm of narwhals, Star's wand only produced a tiny one that flopped around on the floor.
"Get me that wand!"Ludo ordered.
The monsters advance on Star, Marco and Serena, who back into a wall of boxes of 'Big Boy Diapers'.
"Big Boy Diaper Blast!"Star protested.
Star tossed a box at the giraffe minion and knocked him backward and Marco threw a box to Bearicorn.
As they retreat through the opening they've created, Serena threw another box of diapers at Ludo.
The three teenagers come out to the other side of the wall which showed two elevators in front of them.
"Oh, no!"Star panicked. "This doesn't look familiar at all!"
"You know what? We tried this your way. Now we're gonna try this the organized way."Marco declared and looked at Serena. "Rena, help me out on this one."
Serena nodded at Marco.
Marco and Serena looked at the Quest Buy map, studying it's paths and their words.
"I get it."Serena complemented. "The right elevator will take us to the Wand Charger, but there's a strange gap between it and the entrance."
"That's fine."Marco responded. "That elevator will take us right to the charger department anyway! Come on!"
Star, Marco and Serena run into an elevator and take it to the upper floors.
Ludo and his minions enter the adjacent elevator as a large slug man slithers toward them.
"Hold the door there, folks!"the Slug Man called out.
"Close! Close!"Ludo panicked while pressing the Close button repeatedly. "Close!"
The door almost closed, but the slug man reaches it and pushed it open.
"Thanks, guys."the Slug Man thanked.
The Slug Man squeezed into the elevator, squirting slime everywhere and pressing Ludo and his minions against the glass and slime foamed over the cracks in the elevator door.
Marco, Star and Serena continued upwards in their elevator.
The blonde haired princess became excited seeing a neon sign that reads 'Wand Chargers'.
"There it is!"Star remarked and looked at her wand. "Don't worry, little wand. We're almost there."
"Told ya I'd get us there."Marco stated.
"Just you?"Serena questioned with a small glare.
"I mean we."Marco corrected while chuckling nervously.
Suddenly the power in the elevator goes out, leaving Star, Marco and Serena in pitch-black darkness.
"We stopped."Star commented.
Marco, Star and Serena climbed out of the elevator onto the floor they're currently on.
Star accidentally bumped her head on a sign that reads 'OUT OF SERVICE'.
"Ow."Star mumbled.
The trio notice a heavily-bandaged sloth clerk stood next to the elevator.
"Sorry, folks, this elevator's no longer in service."Sloth Clerk declared. "Welcome to the booby trap department. Please step carefully—"
The Sloth Clerk gets caught in an over-sized mousetrap causing Star, Marco and Serena to gasp at the sight.
"Don't help me up!"Sloth Clerk chuckled. "I get worker's comp for this!"
The three young teenagers suddenly hear a bing sound and saw Ludo's elevator arriving to the floor.
The slug man squeezed out of the elevator.
"See you later, guys."the Slug Man stated, noticing Ludo and his monsters were gone. "Uh, guys?"
The slug man turned around, revealing Ludo and his minions stuck to his back as they groaned and moaned in pain.
Ludo pulled himself out from the slug man's back to adjust his skull hat before ordering his monsters to take Star's wand.
"Get 'em!"Ludo ordered.
Star, Marco and Serena run away as Ludo's minions give chase, trampling over the sloth clerk.
As Star, Marco and Serena run down a hallway, the Mewni Princess quickly stopped her companions from walking forward.
"Look out!"Star warned.
An axe swings past the trio on a pendulum.
"Blades of Doom!"Star declared.
Star, Marco and Serena dodge the axes and continue onward while Bearicorn gets his tunic caught on one of the axes.
The small group arrive in a room of skeleton statues with blowguns.
"Massacre darts!"Star called out.
Star, Marco and Serena dash past the statues and avoid the darts the statues shoot at them.
The frill-neck monster chases them, only to get hit with several darts and pass out.
"A hallway with walls that smash together periodically!"Star warned.
Star, Marco and Serena dodged the smashing walls as Big Chicken followed and gets squished between one set of walls.
Then Star, Marco and Serena finally reached the wand charger department which showed hundreds of different chargers.
"We made it!"Marco said in joy.
"It looks another maze for us."Serena groaned.
"There's so many chargers!"Star panicked. "We'll never find the right one in time!"
"Oh, yes, we will."Marco responded confidently. "Because this time, we're gonna get organised. I'll figure this out. You two go hold off the monsters."
"Right!"Star and Serena said in unison.
Star and Serena dashed back to the aisles where Ludo and his monsters were waiting.
"There they are!"Ludo declared.
The two cousins ran up to a shelf and knocked it over on top of Bearicorn.
The giraffe monster ducks under the shelf and smashed through it with his head, sending Star and Serena up to a higher shelf.
Star and Serena sees a Sloth Clerk watching TV and eating chips behind them.
"You're not gonna tell my boss about this, are you?"the Sloth Clerk asked.
The giraffe monster roared in Star and Serena's faces.
"Diamond Hammer!"Serena chanted.
Serena smacked the giraffe monster on the head with her ring styled as a diamond styled hammer.
Marco slid around the wand charger aisles on a ladder to look for Star's wand charger.
He picked up a charger labeled 'AAAA SINGLE' and it zapped him, leaving him with frizzy hair.
Star and Serena stood together as they confronted Big Chicken and the frill-neck minion.
The frill-neck minion approached Star and Serena, but he was stopped by a minotaur woman with a shopping cart. Minotaur woman
"Well, well, well."the Minotaur woman said. "It looks like Mama's having pork chops for supper."
The minotaur woman picked up the frill-neck minion, puts him in her cart, and walked away.
Big Chicken takes flight and points his rear at Star and Serena, grossing them out.
The two girls dodged a barrage of eggs before Star ran into and tripped over another cart, getting her foot stuck.
"Star!"Serena gasped.
Serena rushed towards Star causing Big Chicken to go after them.
As Big Chicken swooped down, but Star flipped the cart onto his head and frees her foot.
Serena noticed Lobster Claws coming and quickly kicked him backward into a shelf.
Several shelf items fall around Lobster Claws including a beak groomer labeled 'BEAK 'N' TRIM'.
"Beak 'N' Trim."Lobster Claws read and gasped, realising this was the item that Ludo wanted. "I found it!"
Lobster Claws picked up the beak groomer and runs into the wand charger department.
Marco picked up a charger labeled 'BLACK HOLE CHARGER' and tossed it away.
"Ludo, I found it!"Lobster Claws declared.
The Black Hole charger falls on the floor in front of Lobster Claws, creating a black hole.
Lobster Claws screamed as he was pulled into the hole.
Star's wand gauge dropped to one bar of power.
"Marco, where are you?!"Star called out.
"I found the charger!"Marco replied. "It took me a while, but once I figured out they were using the metric system—"
Star appeared behind a shelf charger, startling Marco.
"Good job, Marco!"Star shouted impatiently. "Just give me the cock-a-doodie charger!"
Marco handed Star the charger and she landed on the floor with wand and charger in hand.
"Yes!"Star cheered. "I got it!"
However, Ludo came forward and snatched the wand away from Star's hand.
"Yes! I got it!"Ludo cackled in triumph. "Finally, evil is in the palm of my hand! Princess Blast Your Face Off!"
Ludo tried to hit Star with the wand, but since it wasn't charged it just expelled out a small puff of smoke in the shape of a skull.
"Spinning Dizzy Death Blast!"Ludo chanted and the wand still didn't do nothing. "Um, uh...Kapow! What's wrong with this thing?!"
Star kicked Ludo away into a shelf and retrieved her family wand.
Star laughed excitedly as she plugged the charger into the wand and the power gauge filled up.
The wand's front compartment opened, revealing its Millhorse was now healthy.
The Millhorse whinnied happily and runs at full gallop on the treadmill as music box music plays normally.
Star closes the compartment cover and giggled.
"So cute."Star cooed and did a spell with her wand. "Fantastic Exit Beam!"
Star fired a beam that reads 'EXIT' and pushed her, Marco and Serena away toward the store's exit.
"You gonna pay for that charger, ma'am?"Sloth Clerk asked.
"Nah."Star commented. "My arch-nemesis will cover it. He kinda owes me."
"Um, you do realize that we could just walk?"Marco reminded.
"I know."Star answered.
"This is quicker."Serena sneered.
Ludo complained of having Star's wand in his claws, but it escaped his grip.
"I had it right in my claws!"Ludo argued.
The Sloth Clerk walked up to Ludo.
"So you're the one paying for this mess?"the Sloth Clerk questioned.
Ludo notice his beaten minions have caused the destruction in the store.
"Uh, I must have dropped my wallet in the fight."Ludo admitted with a weak smile.
Ludo laughed nervously before the Sloth clerk growled monstrously and pounced on him as he screamed in terror.
Back in the Diaz Household…
Marco, Star and Serena emerged from a dimensional portal.
"We're back."Marco sighed in relief.
"What a relief."Serena remarked. "You see, Star, it pays to be organised. If you just listened to me—"
Star placed her finger on Serena's lips to shush her.
"Shut it, Serena."Star ordered.
Marco frowned and pushed Star's finger away from Serena's lips.
"On Earth, it's rude to tell people to shut it."Marco declared.
"Yeah-yeah-yeah, that's rude on Mewni too."Star replied while looking at something. "Looooook."
Star pointed at something causing Marco and Serena to see Marco's mini-vac floating in midair while having a pink aura around it.
"My minivac!"Marco said in surprise.
"It's possessed."Star commented with wide eyes. "I'm gonna touch it."
"Star."Serena warned with a frown. "I don't think it's a good idea."
Star gently grabbed the minivac out of the air.
"Ugh, she's touching it."Marco groaned.
Star opened the mini-vac and takes her old charger out of the minivac.
"Eh, just my charger."Star replied and became surprised. "My charger!?"
"How did that get here?"Serena questioned.
Star and Serena glanced at Marco causing him to chuckle nervously.
"Uh...whoops. I must have accidentally sucked it up when I was cleaning."Marco admitted. "Sorry. Guess you have two now."
"Nah."Star chuckled.
Star puts her original charger back in the minivac and gives it to Marco.
"You keep it. I've got my wand."Star insisted. "You've got a magic floating vacuum cleaner. Now we're both cool."
Star looked at Serena.
"Hey Rena."Star said. "Since we didn't have any breakfast, can you make your delicious chocolate chip pancakes?"
"Alright."Serena answered and then frowned. "But please don't come into my house using the dimensional scissors. Just use your mirror phone next time."
"Don't worry, I promise I won't do that again."Star vowed.
Marco suddenly slipped on Star's sword, earning the two girls attention.
"But first let's clean up your mess in your side of the bathroom."Serena suggested with a small smirk. "As a Princess and future Queen of Mewni, you need to learn to be organised."
Star sighed in relief.
"Alright, let's do this."Star replied.
Serena helped Star and Marco clear her cousin side in the bathroom before they all sat down to eat her homemade delicious chocolate chip pancakes.
