Chapter 8: Diaz Family Vacation

At the Diaz Household…

Star was listening to King River and Queen Moon Butterfly talk to her through the interdimensional mirror.

"Of course, very few are aware of the serious matter, so I'll be traveling afar to give an all-day lecture explaining the proper throne posture."King River explained. "Slouched shoulders are an epidemic among nobility these days. Blah-blah-blah, posture. Blah-blah-blah, back problems. Blah, blah, blah..."

Star stopped listening to her father as the pink hearts on her cheeks turn into hourglasses.

"So this is what it's like to be bored to death."Star whispered in boredom.

Queen Moon noticed the dimensional scissors behind her daughter.

"Star!"Queen Moon said angrily. "Are those dimensional scissors?"

"Uh! No! No!"Star lied nervously as she picked up the scissors to cut a piece of paper into a shape of a unicorn. "Of course not! Just normal Earth scissors. See?"

Star cuts the papers into a unicorn cut out and accidentally opened a small dimensional portal behind her.

But as the Mewni princess cuts the paper, she created a small portal which made a monster's hand reach out and paw at her.

"Good."Queen Moon said. "Because you're not to leave Earth."

"I would never think of it!"Star laughed nervously as she kicked the monster's arm.

"Glad to hear it."King River remarked and notice his watch beeping. "I'm sorry. Your mother and I must cut you short. I have lecture things to do."

"Oh, him and his lectures."Queen Moon sighed.

Queen Moon walked off with her husband before closing the chat with Star.

"Okay, bye!"Star responded.

Star shoved the monster's arm back through the portal before closing it with the dimensional scissors.

"Whew."Star sighed in relief.

Marco and Serena entered Star's room.

"Star, we're about to celebrate my parents' anniversary."Marco declared. "Come on."

"Oh, no!"Star panicked. "I didn't get them anything!"

"Don't worry about it."Marco assured. "My gift can be from both of us."

"I wanna give them something just from me, 'cause your parents are actually cool."Star admitted.

Marco stared blankly as Star and Serena walked away.

"Cool?"Marco repeated and slowly closed the door. "Cool…"

Star looked at Serena as they headed downstairs.

"What is your gift, Rena?"Star asked.

"Just a plate of champagne cupcakes and a photo album for them to use to add special memories in them."Serena replied with a smile.

"Aw. That's sweet."Star complemented.

Star, Serena and Marco went to the living room, where Rafael and Angie were sitting down in the sofa while eating Serena's champagne cupcakes.

"Serena, thank you so much for the cupcakes."Angie thanked. "They were really bubbly and delicious."

"Your welcome, Mrs Diaz."Serena chuckled.

"Hey, mum and dad."Marco said as he held out a small gift box. "Happy anniversary, you guys!"

"Ooh!"Rafael and Angie said in

Rafael opened the box and Angie takes out two red and light-green fanny packs from inside.

"Wow, Marco!"Angie said with a smile.

"More...fanny packs!"

"Again the same present?"Serena thought in disbelief.

"Okay, I know you guys are non-believers..."Marco started and lifted up his hoodie to reveal a blue fanny pack. "But these are way cooler than last year's."

Marco unzipped his fanny pack to reveal what is inside.

"They have everything you need, like a dilemma whistle, non-drowsy antihistamine, and a space blanket made for two!"Marco admitted.

Marco unfolded the space blanket which had a picture of an astronaut bear in space.

"Oh, yes, you know how much we love to travel and see the sights."Rafael commented.

"Oh, Marco, you put so much thought into this. Gifts are such a great way to show how much you really care about someone."Angie remarked. "I didn't think it was possible to love you more than I do right now."

Serena notice Star was looking more and more distressed.

"And I'm giving you a trip to Mewni!"Star declared.

Serena's eyes widen in shock while Rafael and Angie became excited at Star's declaration.

"We're going to Mewni!"Rafael and Angie cheered.

"What?"Serena said in disbelief.

"Uh, we can use our new fanny packs!"Marco added.

Rafael hugged Star and Angie while jumping up and down.

"We go now, right?"Rafael asked.

"Right now?"Angie said.

"I want to go right now!"Rafael admitted.

"Can we go right now?!"Angie insisted.

At Mewni…

Star, Serena and the Diazes stood next to an open dimensional portal.

"Welcome to Mewni!"Star declared.

Rafael and Angie started to take photographs of Star's kingdom as Serena rubbed her arm in worry.

"Is this where you grew up?"Angie asked.

"No-ho-ho."Star responded. "I live there."

Star pointed up to a large castle for her companions to see.

"Ooh!"Angie and Rafael said in unison.

"Higher."Star instructed.

Angie, Rafael, Marco and Serena looked further up to see a bigger castle in the clouds.

"Ooooh!"Rafael and Angie cooed.

"Higher~"Star sang in a singing tone.

Serena and the Diaz Family looked further up to see Butterfly Castle.

"Ooooooh!"Angie and Rafael cooed again.

Serena smirked. "Nice."

"Let's go there."Angie insisted.

"Aw, you don't wanna see that lame, cheesy, touristy stuff."Star commented. "What you want is the real Mewni experience."

Serena turned her head to the right to see the Mewni slums.

There was a woman seen caring for 14 children, a herd of 12 pig-goat hybrids and a man with a long nose stirs a pot of stew before putting a laughing boy inside it.

Serena cringed a bit at the sight of a little boy eating a horned rat that gave a hissed screaming before running away.

"Oh."Angie laughed nervously. "Yum-yum-yum."

"Oh, look, an open-air market!"Star insisted.

"Get your hydra trail apples!"the first merchant called out.

"Half off shrunken goblin heads!"the second merchant stated.

"Want pickled giant's toe?"the third merchant asked. "Is good."

Rafael and Angie approached a fourth merchant with purple hair that appeared to flash them.

"I got what you need."Merchant 4 stated.

Rafael and Angie took photos of the merchant.

The fourth merchant's front were various wares that were for sale including sundials, wind chimes, jewellery and a chicken head.

"I'll take the wind chimes, please."Angie said.

Star, Serena and the Diazes walked down an alleyway.

The blonde haired princess freaked out quietly when she saw her dad in the same alleyway buying a spear with a few guards accompanying him.

"Dad!"Star whispered.

Star ran up and dragged her companions into the middle of the pen.

"Whoa, Star!"Marco gasped.

"My dad's here."Star answered.

Serena and Marco became shocked at Star's reply.

"Your dad?!"Marco said.

"Uncle River is here?!"Serena added.

Star briefly poked her head up for a moment before going back down.

"Yes!"Star panicked. "I don't know what he's doing here, but if he sees me, I am dead!"

"Both of us will be dead, if your mum and my dad also find out."Serena scowled.

"Calm down, you two."Marco instructed and looked at Star. "Just tell my parents the fanny packs are from both of us, and we can go home."

"But they're actually enjoying my gift."Star protested. "I don't wanna ruin this for them."

Rafael and Angie took photos of the pig-goats as Star, Marco and Serena stood up from the ground.

"Uh, okay! Uh, next, I wanna show you, uh...Oh!"Star said and looked toward a scary-looking forest. "Mewni's natural beauty!"

"Sounds thrilling!"Rafael complemented.

"We love nature."Angie added.

Rafael and Angie approached the forest and to take pictures inside the area.

Marco and Serena sees a sign next to the entrance of the forest that reads 'Forest Of Certain Death'.

"Forest of Certain Death?!"Marco said in shock.

"We are going in there?"Serena questioned with a hint of worry.

"Oh, don't read too much into the name."Star replied confidently. "Hurry up!"

Star, Serena and the Diazes entered the dark creepy-looking forest which gave an unwelcoming atmosphere.

However, Rafael and Angie were busy continuing taking pictures to notice that.

"So it's really kind of important to keep moving."Star instructed with a nervous smile. "There's a bleeding willow tree."

"Ooh."Rafael and Angie cooed together.

A centipede-like monster quickly slithered past Marco and Serena.

"Aah!"Marco shouted. "Whoa!"

"Here's a carnivore blossom."Star continued.

A swarm of baboon-faced bees fly over Marco and Serena causing them to duck to the ground.

"Yikes!"Serena shrieked.

"Are you guys seeing any of this?!"Marco demanded.

"See it?"Rafael asked.

A giant's foot stomped past behind Star, Serena and the Diazes.

"Can't take our eyes off it!"Rafael remarked.

Rafael and Angie continued exploring in the dangerous forest while chanting together.

"Best anniversary ever, best anniversary ever!"Rafael and Angie chanted. "Best anniversary ever, best anniversary ever!"

Star, Serena and the Diazes stepped over something in the ground with teeth.

"Wait!"Star protested. "Come back!"

"Mr and Mrs Diaz!"Serena called out. "This place isn't a playground!"

Marco notice the path in front of him was a man eating plant.

"Oh, yeah."Marco said sarcastically. "Nice try, path."

Marco throws a few sticks of gum onto the 'path', and the mouth snapped closed to chew on the gum.

"Hey, guys, did you see what I just did with that bubble gum?"Marco called out.

Star, Serena and his parents running toward the far end of the road.

"Wait!"Star shouted. "Come back!"

"This isn't save!"Serena warned.

Marco frowned. "Of course not."

Star, Serena and the Diazes pass by what appear to be roses.

Angie notice some closed red flowers as they walked to their next destination.

"Oh, wow."Angie remarked. "These flowers are lovely."

"Not as lovely as you, dear."Rafael complemented as he took some photos.

Star and Serena continued following after Angie and Rafael.

"Wait for us!"Star protested.

As Marco passed by the roses, flower monsters burst out of the ground and started growling at him.

"Uh... Uh...!"Marco panicked.

Marco opened his fanny pack and blew on his dilemma whistle causing the flower monsters to sink back into the ground.

"Hmm."Marco muffled. "It worked."

Rafael and Angie run along some thick tree branches.

"Come on, my dear."Rafael said. "Let me capture your beauty-ness on this magnificent adventure."

Angie happily did a spin as her husband took photos of her before they continued exploring.

Star and Serena climbed on the thick tree branches as they followed after Marco's parents.

"Wait! Come back!"Star protested. "Okay! You can stop being so cool now!"

"This would never happened if you shared the fanny packs with Marco."Serena muttered.

"Not helping, Rena."Star responded.

Angie and Rafael slowly approached a small porcupine-like creature with midnight blue fur and bright cyan eyes.

"Okay, now, hold still."Rafael instructed.

Angie and Rafael started taking pictures of the photos of the porcupine-like creature causing him to screech from the light.

Star and Serena sighed in relief to see Marco's parents safe.

"They're still alive."Star sighed.

Serena walked over to the porcupine-like creature and smiled at it.

"Aw, you must be hungry."Serena suggested and opened a cookie bar to feed it to the creature. "Here you go."

The porcupine-like creature sniffed at the bar before happily munching it with his sharp teeth.

"Your a good boy."Serena cooed. "Yes, you are. Yes, you are."

Serena stroked the porcupine-like creature's fur causing him to snuggle against her legs.

"Be careful, Rena."Star warned worriedly. "He might bite."

"I don't think so, Star."Serena chuckled and picked up the porcupine-like creature. "For some reason, he likes me."

Star looked away from Serena, only to see King River and two of his manservants, including Manfred.

"These tracks are fresh."King River declared.

King Butterfly tasted something on the ground as Star and Serena hid behind a log.

"Pegasus feathers!"Star panicked quietly. "He's on to us!"

"Nothing makes you more like a man than go to the bathroom in the woods."Marco remarked.

Star and Serena notice Marco walking by and pulled him into hiding.

"Marco, we gotta a problem."Serena exclaimed. "Star's father is right here."

"We gotta go."Star stated. "It's not safe here."

King River pointed to the right and looked at his guards.

"This way!"King River declared.

"Let's just get your parents and go home."Star insisted and stood up. "Okay, Mr. and Mrs. Diaz, that concludes the tour. Hope you've enjoyed your..."

Star, Marco and Serena notice Rafael and Angie were no longer in the area they were.

"Mr and Mrs Diaz?"Star asked.

"Where did they go?"Marco questioned.

"Guys."Serena spoke up with a nervous tone. "I think I know where."

The three young teenagers notice Mr and Mrs Diaz's footprints lead toward a skull-shaped cave.

Bats fluttered inside as Marco, Star, Serena and the porcupine-like creature sneak into the cave.

"Look!"Marco said. "It's their stuff!"

Marco, Star, Serena and the porcupine-like creature find Rafael and Angie's clothes and belongings.

Star and Serena used their magical heirlooms to bring some light in the cave as Marco picked up his mother's wind chimes.

"But where are they?"Marco asked sadly.

Marco, Star and Serena suddenly feel a breeze as the porcupine-like creature hid behind a rock in fear.

Star shines her wand inside a hole and it breathes on her causing a hydra to wake up.

The hydra lifted up its head to reveal five more heads popping out.

"A Hydra!"Serena shouted in shock.

Star, Marco and Serena screamed in terror.

"Let's get outta here!"Marco insisted.

"No!"Star responded. "That thing ate your parents!"

Muffled screams were heard in the hydra's stomach.

"Yikes!"Serena shrieked. "That's not good!"

"Look out!"Star shouted.

Star pushed Marco and Serena out of the way, only to get eaten by one of the hydra's heads.

"Star!"Serena yelled out.

"Let her go!"Marco snapped.

Marco shoves his hands inside the hydra's nostrils and pulled Star out.

"Super Rainbow Dolphin Slam!"Star chanted.

Star blasted the hydra's heads with magic dolphin blasts as Serena activated her ring.

"Cactus Flower Wings!"Serena chanted.

Serena blasted the hydra with flying flower shaped creatures with catus sharp wings as she, Star and Marco ran away from it.

"There!"Marco responded.

Star and Serena blasted two more heads as the hydra continued chasing them and Marco.

The three young teenagers reached a dead end as the hydra approached them.

"A dead end?!"Marco shouted.

Star and Serena blasted the hydra with more dolphin blasts and cactus flowers as Marco uppercuts one of its heads.

The hydra then started breathing fire on the trio.

Star, Marco and Serena ran around the stream of fire breath, running on opposite sides of the hydra.

Marco takes the space blanket out of his fanny pack.

"Quick!"Marco called out. "Under here!"

Star, Marco and Serena duck under the space blanket, protecting them from the hydra's fire breath.

"A fire proof blanket?"Serena said with a smirk. "For once, I am impressed with you, Marco."

"Wow!"Star remarked. "What else do you have in there?"

"I pretty much used up everything when I was schooling the Forest of Certain Death."Marco explained smugly. "Well, everything except for this miniature miniature book of knots."

Marco takes out a book of knots that's an inch big.

"So cute."Star cooed and got an idea. "Did you say knots?"

"Yeah."Marco answered. "Why?"

Serena smirked. "I see where this is going."

Star, Marco and Serena jumped out from under the space blanket.

"Bet you can't catch me!"Star called out.

"Over here!"March shouted.

"Is that really the fast you can go?!"Serena sneered.

Star, Marco and Serena all run in opposite directions to distract the hydra's heads.

The heads of the Hydra all followed the three young teenagers in different directions.

"Hey, you!"Star shouted as she dodged the hydra heads. "Yeah, you! You can't catch me!"

The hydra's necks start to get entangled.

"Over here!"Marco remarked.

"No!"Serena chuckled. "Right here!"

Marco and Serena dodged the hydra's heads, making their necks get more entangled.

"Come and get me!"Star giggled.

The hydra's necks gets so entangled, they tie into a knot.

The creature suffocated and falls over in defeat.

"Whoo-hoo!"Star cheered.

"We did it!"Serena laughed.

Suddenly, King River appeared on a cliff holding a spear and wearing nothing but a loincloth while a bone sticks out of his beard.

The King of Mewni let out a triumph yell as he jumped from the cliff ready to challenge the hydra, but stopped when he noticed Star and Serena.

"Star?!"King River replied. "Serena?!"

"My parents are still inside that thing!"Marco admitted.

King River cuts an opening in the hydra's stomach, freeing several Mewni civilians.

"We're free!"the civilians cheered in joy.

"They're not here?!"Marco said in shock. "Quick, to the large intestine before they're fully digested!"

Marco squished through the hydra's innards while gagging as Star, Serena and King River looked worried.

The group then noticed Rafael and Angie giggled as they were seen enjoying a hot spring.

"There's nothing like a steamy bath after a long day of exploration."Rafael declared.

"Mum!"Marco said with a relieved smile. "Dad!"

"You're alive!"Star remarked.

Serena blushed and covered her eyes from seeing the naked adults.

"Aaaand you're only wearing the fanny packs."Marco added.

"Ah, King Butterfly!"Rafael responded, noticing King River. "Care for a dip?"

Rafael and Angie give each other amorous giggling as King River cleared his throat.

"As inviting as that sounds, I need a minute with my daughter and niece."King River stated.

King River dragged Star and Serena away by their arms to speak to them.

"Star, Serena, both of you know you're not to leave Earth!"King River scowled. "What are you two doing here?"

"It wasn't my idea to come here in the first place, Uncle River!"Serena assured.

"Okay, okay! Uh, but the thing is, it's not exactly my fault!"Star protested. "There—it was an anniversary! It all started with the fanny packs..."

Star and Serena frowned when they became suspicious at King River's presence in the cave.

"Hold on, why are you in the cave anyway?"Serena questioned.

"Yeah!"Star agreed with a frown. "Aren't you supposed to be giving some boring lecture?"

"Uh, yes! W-We got a little lost. The directions were, uh...It all started with fanny packs..."King River chuckled and then sighed in defeat. "There is no lecture."

King River jumped onto a rock.

"Being king is exhausting."King River stated while holding his spear. "Every once in a while, I need to sneak away and fight monsters. It keeps me sane. And it's good for my throne posture."

"So I get my monster fighting from you."Star said with a smile. "Cool...Cool!"

"I suppose so."King River chuckled.

Star, Serena and King River laughed lightly.

"Are you gonna tell Aunt Moon you saw us?"Serena asked.

"I didn't see you two and you two didn't see me."King River responded. "But just this once."

Star and Serena nodded before they hugged King Butterfly.

"Hugs!"Star and King River said in unison.

"Farewell."King River declared with a wave.

King River then happily left the cave followed by his manservants.

Marco walked forward while the porcupine-like creature jumped into Serena's arms.

"It's cool that you guys bonded and you got to see that side of your dad."Marco said with a smile.

Rafael whistled as he crossed the screen naked causing Marco to quickly cover Star and Serena's eyes from seeing him.

"I wish I hadn't seen that side of my dad."Marco chuckled in embarrassment.
