In a office in the dead of night a man sat alone at his desk. He grinned maliciously as he looked at what he saw. Brian Mason looking at the schematics fondly couldn't wait for it too fall into place. It was a Boomer body, a new class. It was an experimental class he had developed in secret without Macy knowing. Macy unfortunately had put the inter-dimensional travel on hold so Mason had plenty of free time on his hands. He held no doubt that Macy had the device destroyed along with all the records too boot. If it has been filed down to their own dimension then it would've wasted billions of dollars they would've made it in conventional space travel. Mason was surprisingly understanding of the fact, besides he had a grander ambitions and ruling dimensions would be tiresome. Just a simple would do for him. All that was left was to destroy the traveller.
"Hopefully that machine dose its job" He mused aloud. "Either way if he comes out he'll be put in the loony bin"
In Mason'seyes he had nothing to fear. Jacob was of almost no concern to him, but having him dead would help him sleep better at night. If that's what it took then he was all for it.
Jacob laid next to Linna fast asleep, waiting for tomorrow. Linna however was awake and watching him as he slumber. He looked surprisingly peaceful for what had transpired in the day. Almost died protecting Irene, even willing to take on a Boomer without weapons!. He defeated it, with luck and a fuse panel. She appreciated his bravery. Suddenly he began shifting in his sleep, weakly crying out as he did. Linna looked seeing his expression darken with each passing second.
"No more" he weakly moaned in his sleep. "I'll be good, I'll obey"
Linna in rush shook him. Jacob jolted and his eyes snapped open. He gasped deeply in shock as Linna turned on the lamp giving them some light. Jacobs heart pounded in his chest as he sat up right. Linna was holding his arm now looking deeply concerned.
"Jacob what happened?" She asked, getting straight to the point.
Jacob knew it would happen again, nightmares never went away easily. The only thing he could really do was accept it and he'll her his past.
"A nightmare, bread though abuse...physical and Psychological" He darkly began to her horror. "It started when I was five years old. I don't know why but I know they hated me" he stopped with a haunted tone.
Linna saw him beginning to shake as he gazed out into empty space.
"Day after day, week after week, year after year they'd break me down more and more. When I was 16 i felt no different about it...then Gene happened, saving me and helping back to sanity" He went on. "Gene suffered a stroke at 23, few months ago...23, Jesus Christ too such a good man too" He ended with tears running down his face.
Linna saw his darkening expression as his face twisted into intense grief. Linna took ahold of his arm and pulled him into a hug.
"It's gonna be ok, it's gonna be just fine" Linna soothed. "Just hold onto me, it's ok just cry"
Jacob cried for the first time in many years. It was surprisingly nice too do so in Linna's arms.
Sylia had just finished taking Jacobs measurements and wrote each down. He was thinner than she had anticipated, It made sense when he came clean about how he was abused. Only Linna and herself knew, deciding to fill in the others later. It was a disturbing story, only 1 person decided to help who Jacob saw die. Alot weighted on his mind.
"That's all I need" Sylia said.
Jacob nodded sheepishly. Uncomfortable despite telling the story. He gazed aimlessly out her bedroom window towards the oppressive Genom tower.
"I honestly don't know whether to be happy I'm here or sad...I really didn't have anything else before now" Jacob said.
Jacob sighed aloud and looked to Sylia within indifference.
"I've got a fresh start now, why would I go back to a place where I never belong?" He asked her.
Sylia looked at him, he had been toying with the idea of never going home ever since he realized where he really was. He was more of a realist thanks to Gene, more understanding of the world around him.
"It's up too you when the time comes" She advised before an idea came to mind. "How's your cataloging and taxes skills?"
Jacob chuckled amusingly. Of course. He figured.
"I worked in the library for two years so I've got the right experience" He replied, putting the pieces together himself.
"Good, that's good" Sylia said, deep in her own thoughts.
Jacob knew exactly what she was thinking about.
"Keep me with an arms reach just in case?" He asked.
She nodded. Jacob quickly excused himself in the room and took A seat at one of the computer terminals. Sylia watched him as he began working right then in there without a question in the world. Too Jacob it was almost exactly how we did it in the library. The clicks or computer keys sounded as his fingers danced across the keyboard with an effortless grace. He didn't mind the peace and quiet he longed for in awhile.
Mackie entered the room with oil stained jeans too see Jacob working without a care in the world. He noticed Mackie as he closed the door behind him.
"Gotta do something I guess" Mackie said, walking past him.
"I like it" Jacob shrugged.
Mackie looked back to him too see Jacob typing away. Add a cigarette and some coffee he wouldn't look outta place in an office building.
"Good luck" Mackie replied, before walking over to his sister.
Jacob waved before going back to work.
